- This video shows how I assembled an extended run fuel tank for my Honda EU2200i generator.
I purchased most of the parts from a US based eBay seller named mri_denver
Here’s a link to their eBay store: www.ebay.com/s...
These types of hoses, caps and fittings are not limited to just the Honda generators.
The eBay seller has kits for a large selection of portable generators.
They also have CNC machined oil dipstick caps with a magnet embedded in the tip, as well as oil drain and fill spout extensions to eliminate making a mess when draining the oil.

We have the Champion Dual fuel and sometimes I wish I had gotten the Honda so I could do the extended run mod. I will have to look for mod instructions for the Champion. Great video and instructions.
Check out MRI_DENVER ebay seller. They have replacement fuel caps for a lot of generators. With a new CNC machined cap with a threaded hole, it's easy to do the extended run tank.
Yep came here to say this. I have MRI Denver's kit as well. I used his caps but am using a 5 gallon VP racing jug as source. If I needed more runtime I would use Wurx 20 gallon.
The Honda has a fuel pump. You don't have to have your external tank higher than the Honda.
I have this exact same generator and I’m attempting to run it from an auxiliary line connected to my vehicle’s fuel tank. The generator is sitting higher than the tank, and I am priming the line before use, but for some reason the syphon effect does not occur. The fuel libe is about 12 ft long. Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong?
@@stephandalejofill the generator tank to the top level before adding the extended run cap. If it's not sucking fuel your vent may not be open enough on the remote tank.
That is what I am looking for high quality equipment...!
I have this system for my pair of EU2200Is. The hoses and fittings are very high quality, but the fuel caps are garbage. They simply don't fit the tank. I ended up using a bunch of teflon tapes on the tank threads to create an air tight seal. It's a pain to deal with that tape every time I remove and reinstall the cap. I'm now looking to modify the stock cap(s) to accept the fittings.
I do love the extended fuel capacity as it allows me (when we go camping) to setup Friday evening, run all weekend, and then pack up on Sunday without refueling.
That is a bummer about the fuel caps. I haven't had any issue with mine.
The tank will work fine if it's on the ground, the only issue I've run into with the systems is the connection of the gas cap . I somehow did not connect it well and it started drawing air. You'll know if this happens a generator will start running rough and die. Just unplug and reconnect that connector and it would be great!
You could also get a dual fuel generator and use propane instead. A 30 lb tank would run that generator about 24 hours and would be safer than gas. Thanks for sharing.
I'm very tempted to sell my EU2200 and get a dual fuel gen and use propane for it.
I have a Wen 2350, I didn’t see a gas cap on the eBay site…is it possible to modify the original to make it work?? BTW great video
It might be possible to modify the original gas cap.
I would like to do the same thing with my EU2200i. Great that you provided the link the the eBay seller. Do you also have a link on where you got the gas cap that goes on the Honda? I have an outboard motor gas tank already. TIA
The same ebay seller is where I bought my fuel cap too.
I recently purchased a new eu2200i generator. I heard the new generators have a different gas cap and getting a good air tight seal is difficult. Does the cap and hose you linked on ebay have any leaking issues?
It hasn't had any leaking issues
I'm going to hook my Honda EU2200i to a 55 gallon fuel drum, because I want to run it until the sun goes supernova. Hope this helps.
Will it not pull gas out of aux tank if that tank is on the same level as the gen?
It will.
@@deltabravo1257 my fear is the gas above will siphon into the carb, might could be too much for the needle spring and flood everything, run back into the air box and maybe be an issue. Safer to rely only on the vacuum, but if safety is no factor then sounds all fun.
@@ajriding It's no different than having a full tank of fuel in the generator fuel tank.
The siphon effect only draws fuel when the generator is running
I have noticed that these generators get older. The pumps do not pump as nicely and to have it a little higher than the generator is a good thing. But then the gasoline will fill up past the level of the gas cap on the generator and start leaking out. What you want to do is completely bypass the tank on your generator..
@@markrottjakob2670 THANKS
BERGS extended run system. I have the twin draw version for 2x 2200i
I looked at their systems, but the pre-built systems are really expensive.
@@deltabravo1257 I have been using the same BERGS system for 10 years. Hoses and fittings are flexible and tight. I originally bought it for the 2000i but upgraded when the 2200i came out. The fuel gauge on the supply tank is quite handy. FYI , I have only used non ethanol gas.
@MrGhendri if I have mr bergs kit connected to my generator, can I fill both my generator gas tank as well as Mr bergs extended gas tank through only one cap or do I have to fill both gas tanks through separate caps? I'm assuming that I can fill both through just Mr bergs extended tank cap.
@@NicoProv initially both generators must be filled individually along with the extended run tank. Then you only have to fill the extended run tank after that.
You think this can work with a champion generator2500w?
If you can find a similar fuel cap for the Champion 2500, then it will work.
Walmart also sells marine fuel hose kits and fittings for common makes of outboards. Couldn’t you just use those?
Yes, I could have done that too.
@@deltabravo1257 Next question then is if your generator comes with a small tank, mine is a WEN GN400i, could you not bypass the OEM tank altogether and plumb directly to the fuel line connection port? Perhaps with an adapter to get connection hose diameter correct.
@@billware6721 I have a couple of open frame generators with small tanks. No good reason to complicate things on them. I bet you could just drill a fuel hose size hole and connect directly to the carburetor and gravity feed. I'm going to use a Briggs & Stratton plastic fuel tank repair kit (Just a rubber grommet and the valve has a screen and barb to go through the rubber grommet) and just drill a hole down low in the side of a plastic gas can. If you used 6+ feet of hose you could refill the new tank while the generator is running.
why would you need to run the eu2200i more than nine hours? It only takes a few minutes to refuel the less tha 1 gallon tank to run for another 9 hours.
An EU2000 or 2200 won't run nine hours on a full tank of gas when running a roof A/C, other high draw loads.
It might only run 2 hours, maybe less.
So you fill it at 6pm and at 3am it cuts off because it’s out of gas. Do you like getting up at 3am and going outside with a flashlight to “just put one gallon” in the tank? And it won’t run 9 hours. 8 with a minimal load. During our last hurricane I would have been delighted to have 24 hour or more runtime.
Can you someone tell why I can’t find a piece that will allow me to do this with my 10,000W Honda? I’ve looked everywhere. I don’t understand why the same method won’t would work on any generator.
Which piece are you looking for?
Panelish power Products
If the generator has a fuel pump (which the eu2000 does) it can pull fuel from a tank on the ground. Many generators use gravity fuel systems and this won't work for them.
Yes, just bought a generator with this issue, I'm thinking of fitting a vacuum operated fuel pump ( they are cheap online for mopeds) and a 3 port valve so I can change which tank it draws fuel from.
I can’t find link
Which link are you referring to?
does anyone have a link for the hose and fittings?
I bought mine on eBay. Link to the seller I used is in the video description above.
@@deltabravo1257 Thanks. Apparently he doesn't have them anymore.
@@markmarkplace I see them in their ebay store tonight.
@@deltabravo1257 Thanks DB I found it and ordered it! thanks
Have you ever watched A TH-cam video on making your own ethanol free fuel from the highest grade out of with. And remember to just get A couple bottles of octane booster to add back into your let's say 5 to 10 gallons of fuel. Then see how long of run time that gives you on one tank of fuel. You use purified bottle water and A separate clear jug like A vinegar jug recycle it.,an you can use soap filled steel wool pads. to remove the glue off of the side of the jug with. To be able to see through the jug with. If you saved back two of those jugs you could double up your fuel making capacity just by doing that trick tip to. Yes you half to shake up the jug really good after pouring About A 1/2 of cup of water in the jug.,an the rest with gasoline fuel almost to the top by the handle with the gasoline fuel that you buy from the gas station pumps. Then it's just at home DIY science and biology chemistry from their. Remember to slowly release the pressure from the cap while holding the bottom of the jug firm with the opposite hand. pushing upwards until the bottom is even again letting the air out of the jug. Then retighten the jug cap let it set from 24 hours.,or 2 days on A cool place out of the way. Then you just separate the fuel from the jug you'll see it separated in three parts the first part of the gasoline fuel that you want to get out of the jug to reuse. I'd invest in one of those battery powered hand held fuel pumps from Walmart to remove the fuel out with just above the second layer of gel fuel. It's the ethanol fuel that ruins your small engines and outdoor equipment.
Boring
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video
