    When you use a symbol on a map, points represent points, areas represent areas. Hes suggesting we use points to represent areas. This is a wholly incorrect visualization. For instance, if you're trying to represent population level, using a point in the middle of Texas implies that all the people live in the middle of the state and not at the edges. Another example, you'd never use a point to represent a line - where would you put the "point" for Highway I-95? or Highway I-10? This is cartography 101: use the proper marker for the data.

    This guy cheated at 30:58 bar chart starts at 0.. but line chart starts at 45000... He should have been honest and start both at 0.. and still line chart wins anways to prove trend over time. Overall talk is good.

      there is no point to display 0.. it aims to give you example how to create a better visualisation not comparing data.
