In a world were with so much data where processing has become so complex, visualization has really become an important tool not only to convey ideas and make sense of it, but to generate more ideas out of the process. I remember Hans Rosling's lecture on The Joy of Stats. Oh! And also, great job as always, Off Book's crowd!
It's too bad the music is louder than the dialogue as it makes it hard to understand the content. People who are hearing impaired want to benefit from the content, too.
This episode of PBS Off Book had a unique feel compared to many of the previous episodes. Perhaps there was some intent previously to flood the user with information in a hope that something would stick or perhaps the addressing of a visual media data presentation technique encouraged the producers and editor to change the way they think about and present the information they want to communicate. Regardless I found it much more informative and I hope to see this style continue in the future.
Thinking the exact same thing. Especially in the beginning, the voices barely stand out from the ambient noise (aka music). Maybe they spent too much time on visualisation and forgot all about audio, though.
brazwen It seemed very ironic to me that they are talking about the importance of content over aesthetic and their background music overpowers the content 🙈
Hello, every once in a while, I try to research what good data visualization is out there. I really loved Hans Ringling’s videos, combining populations, bubbles and movement in time. This video is a step in the right direction. But I want data visualization that tells shows me important information. For example, the airport air traffic visualization tells me that Miami is one of the if not the most popular air traffic areas in the United States. If anyone can help me direct me, that would be great.
And then, of course, there is virtual reality data visualization. That could become the most important of its uses when display resolution becomes sufficient, which it has not yet begun even to approach.
Take away the yanni music and this video is watchable. Ironic given its focus on design using only the bare essentials to communicate. Music track ruined this video. Levels were too high and distracting.
Neo-Idealism. The patterns determines the concept or otherwise? If graphic data is considered under an Intention and a Cultural Code-System as expression, it's only a movement of codifying and decodifying Expressions over plataforms (what we cal data.) If its considered as able of reaching up natural phenomena synthesis and turning it into some sort of human language, it's another idealistic mistake as Math is to Quantic Physics. Point vs Space paradox, etc.

What I find real amazing and fantastic visualization is tracking an airliner in real-time.
The new york times’ storytelling works using data were mindblowing. Revelation of new perceptions is def the key point of any good data visualization.

A great video, but a version without the distracting music and sounds would be better.

Beautiful music at 7:17... any ideas where I can find some information about it?
This is an awesome series! Thanks Kornhaber Brown! I want to learn your ways
Shalom and howdy how. Good stuff ! Thank you for sharing!
Music is bit loud for me. It was more distracting than informative.

I love that editor's face at the end of every PBS video.
I expected to see more about the trend of infographics. Very interesting episode - thx!
at 2:06 - it is not Paris, but London - obvious through the shape of river Thames.
Get your data straigth!
Back in focus. Thankyou for the videos. Kima.

Good job, guys! Very interesting and informative.
Awesome visualization with meaningful interpretation !
Has anyone noticed that that is London and not Paris?
2:12 Isn't Paris it's London....

LOVES ME SOME DATA!
Thanks for sharing
Am I the only one that doesn't find the music too loud or distracting? lol

Annoying production. Metaphysical/new age music is SO overbearing that it distracts from the message ... for me.
The music isn’t overlapping the voices if you not use earphones.
the sound is too loud vs voice :(
Awesome
this rocks!
👍
Intriguing
Where. Are you art get
