Best coach in any sport at this place in time and for the last decade. It was nice to see him smile and be a bit more verbal than usual. What you see is what you get. Carter Starocci kinds of sums it up. "It really starts with the coaches," Starocci said. "This morning I was a little heavy and a little more than I wanted to be. And Coach Cael was right there riding the bike with me. Just looking around, all the other guys warming up, their coaches are on their phones. I'm like, this dude is in the foxhole with us. I think that means more than anything."

There's a reason he left the midwest to coach at PSU. Better wrestling grounds to pick from. Iowa can get mad until they are blue in the face, they are going to be playing second fiddle to PSU for some time to come......you can bet on that....

Carter Starocci quote about the Penn State coaches (from the Associated Press). "It really starts with the coaches. Just looking around, all the other guys warming up, their coaches are on their phones. I'm like, this dude is in the foxhole with us. I think that means more than anything."

Penn State is best in one aspect of wrestling that is most important..the takedown..other teams need to give full attention to getting their wrestlers better on their feet...3 points..its where matches are won and lost.

@@letsssgooo4618hahaha. That's what I was thinking, I kept yelling at my screen (as a big time PSU wrestling fan), "Shoot Mes SHOOT!" he didn't shoot because he forgot the riding time that Carr had. He should've known that was a factor with the way it took him a full period to get out from the Carr ride. Well, that's just another thing that Mesenbrink has to work on to get better.
Look to see him get EXTREMELY good at being able to explode out of those ride-outs and from the bottom being much better at getting out fast. He's not going to be embarrassed by a ride-out like that again. He's going to assert his authority and he's going to dictate how the match is played out.
Carr was just more experienced. He used that to ride him out for the whole first period into the second then finished it in the 3rd. Mesenbrink got nothing to be ashamed of as a sophomore coming in and nearly pushing through Carr, if it weren't for the inability to get out of the ride. That's one thing he needs to work on more is getting out from the bottom better.

@@zaynes5094 I think part of this was him just being physically weaker and smaller than Carr. Technique too, but maybe needs to focus some more on strength training and being as big as he can for his weight class. Great performance though all in all.
