CP, I respectfully agree to disagree with you on this one. All of the big names you mentioned really are Phenoms. Is there more of them? Absolutely, but you can have more than one phenom. You’re compared to your peers and all of these top HS guys wrestling well at the collegiate and senior level, are still better than 99% of their competition. In my opinion, that’s phenomenal. 🙏🏼
IMO phenom is way more than 1% i think more like lebron James or Mike trout or Sid Crosby or Andrew luck
But it is getting more common dude, he literally described it during the video, US Olympic champs are getting younger, more 4x national champs are coming faster than ever. We only had one 4 timer in the 1900s I believe and we’ve had 3 in the last two seasons.
@matt6619 you said it even better than CP
@@giacalonebuilding4443 I was trying to agree with you until I read that last name. Of all the great athletes to ever compete, Andrew Luck wouldn’t make the top 100 list. I see what you’re saying though. 🙏🏼
@@matt6619 The availability of film these wrestlers can watch is contributing to success. Prior to the internet boom, the only way to get better was to be around an elite scene, either attending tournaments and watching high level wrestlers compete, or going to camps. For some kids with talent, prior to having all the wrestling you want to watch at home, getting enough funds to travel to elite tournaments or going to camps was not feasible. Wrestling, in my experience, attracts kids in blue collar communities and some families didn't have the means. The last 10-15 years are showcasing the results of determined kids studying every possible position they could be in, envisioning these scenarios day and night, as they watched rewinds of the best in the world. I'm almost 40 years old and I have learned more wrestling in the past five years than my entire childhood due to TH-cam.
I would imagine that the young guys will come in and break all current USA world level records in regards to medal counts thanks to all these high level wrestling clubs that have started over the past decade or so
Totally agree.
The number of wrestlers at the youth level and high school level has been increasing. It is going to add depth to USA Wrestling. As long as wrestling is growing, it is going to fund the development programs and hopefully can lead to a positive feedback of bringing more kids to wrestling
We don't have the depth of Russia but our depth is getting better and our top level in Freestyle Men's and Women's can compete with anyone in the world. Not having a clear NEXT MAN/WOMAN UP is great for USAW. Now we just need to get our Greco-Roman program to catch up.
Our depth is much deeper than Russia, what are you talking about?
@@michaelscott33 Absolutely not. Check the UWW rankings. Russian athletes (AIN) are all over the place. O
@michaelscott33 it's true that the American wrestling has evolved significantly in less than a decade, but competition in Russia always was and always will be deep. So much so that most Russian wrestlers compete for different countries, like Tazhudinov, Musukaev, Zhamalov, Bekbulatov, and Kadimagomedov, simply because they're insanely talented and still cannot get past the nationals. And then they also have to qualify in countries such as Uzbekistan and Belarus which are also highly competitive. Same happens in US as of recently with Austing Gomez and RBY, but let's be real, these guys are competing for Mexico and Puerto Rico. What kind of competition do these countries have? It's practically non existent. So no, Russia is deeper with talent. Sure they're not doing as well but that's because of all the sanctions. Trust me, Russia thinks several generations ahead. So we have high schoolers beating college guys, right? Well Russia already prepares a bunch of elementary schoolers to enter the international stage once they become adults.
@@user-hh1sr6mp8l I agree that Russia is probably deeper atm, but as a father of 3 young boys, one who has Olympic aspirations, the US is picking up steam. Will my boy make it? Who knows, but from a personal standpoint, he will have every opportunity to improve his skills if he so chooses. We travel across the country already, and if he wants to keep going, nothing is gonna stop him, certainly not me. Have some faith! We just need to get more mainstream coverage (from a sport perspective) not having the Olympic trials at 10am
The u.s competition wasn't as hard in high school as is now so yeah pico went further but there is so much high school talent in u.s that makes a diffrence to me...we shall see but I think bo,blaze,Forrest will all win at the the senior world stage in few years
I think that were changing our style; the Jax, Bo's, Lukes are the new age of wrestling. Today, the "older generation", are the David Taylor, Kyle Snyder, Jordan Burroughs. Believe it or not. These guys are different style then the youth. I see these youth guys are really focusing much more on re-attacks and scoring off of opponent's offense. Where the "older generation" was all about offense. The offensive attack "style" is more American than anything. I see the Iranians, the Russians, the Turks, these guys at the senior level are re-attacks, scoring off opponents' offense. I've been frustrated for years at our American style. I remember Kyle Snyder going against Abdulrashid Sadulaev, the second time. This match was a prime example of our American style of offense, scoring points, going against the "scoring off opponents' offense" and "re-attacks". The days of John Smith are over. To compete at world level, it's all going to be re-attacks, scoring off opponents' offense. And the new crop of kids are doing just that.
I think your right but you need to be able to score off your attack, your reattack and off their attack.
@@yo2stix Oh, no doubt. Score for sure. I'm just seeing finally we are doing what the Russians and Iranians have been doing to us for decades.
Yea but if both sides are committed to scoring off of the others offense, then who is going to score 😂
@@michaelbradley7621 Yeah, that's wrestling in Europe and Asia. Watching those guys is like watching paint dry sometimes.
I think you’re being unfair to pico comparing them at all.
CP is definitely correct about USA wrestling. Especially with Russia conducting the longest "special military operation" in history which will reduce their talent pool to a degree theoretically.
Christian did you even wrestle
Ben Davino has wins over Jax, Marcus, Luke, Knox,
Marc -Anthony, Jordyn, Gibbs, and never gets a mention. He is the high school pfp best now without question.
crazy to me honestly, everyone sleeps on illinois products even zane richards
Ben is great
@@edwinrangel4175 Exactly, if he was from Pennsylvania, we’d hear a lot more about him here.
I’d argue blaze is better pfp but flo definitely loves to sleep on Illinois and Ohio product
I think Bo Bassett is as good as Pico, but he is just growing later than Pico. Wrestling is fundamentally different at 106 and 138, that's all. In a hypothetical if I put out the pre-NCAA career of Bassett, Starrocci, and Brooks, and said 2 of these guys will be 4x NCAA champs, which ones?, every single person would pick Bassett as one of the two.
He’s nowhere near the level Pico was at. Pico was wrestling in world senior level matches in high school…
@@michaelscott33 Agreed. As impressive as what the current crop of high schoolers are doing now, competing outside the U.S. against top senior level competition, like Pico did at 16, is another level up.
@@michaelscott33 Pico beat Retherford during his true freshman year, sure but Retherford was one of the better guys in the world, even at that age. Bassett beat Ashnault, not to mention all the other college guys he's beaten, at the same age. Ashnault is a 2x pan am champ, so it isn't like he's some slouch.
Bassett isn't another Aaron Pico? So you mean Bassett won't disappear from wrestling completely and then fail in MMA? Oh no, how will we survive?
Fail? Currently 13-4 as professional fighter. Sit down.
Aaron is up for a title fight next...he definitely not failing
Second?
The only phenomenon was cejudo because he actually won gold.
What about Kyle snyder?
@giacalonebuilding4443 Nope, because he wrestled in college, Henry and Pico never wrestled in college.
@frankiecal3186 does wrestling in college give you an advantage on an international stage? Because it's still different styles of wrestling.
I think that it helps you grow and get stronger? So absolutely it helps!
@CharlieB-gs5uk yeh but I have this feeling that wrestling folkstyle will give you bad habits in freestyle with all the mindless scrambling. In freestyle one mistake can cost you an entire match.
First?
Yep! 😃👍
Dumb video.
These KIDS are in the olympic trials. Thats phenomenal. Case closed
So, they made it into the Olympic trials….they haven’t done anything yet.
@@michaelscott33now they have!
