    So cool. You drew out every part down to each and every bolt even. Shape and ratios look cool as hell. Even the music "doesn't suck," and kind of got me pumped up on the real. It feels good to be able to call out each part/system as it goes on. This is kind of like a cool set of flashcards in a way. Thanks 🤝

    I had ff3 1.6 duratec. And I can say that is one of the best engines ever.

    DURATEC HE IV 2.0 uses a timing chain. The belt on the cover is just running auxiliaries such as water pump and alternator.

    @Nanakiyami. I absoluteley agree. One thing you forgot to mention is the hours of cleaning you have to do. I'm curently doing a 2.4 Duratorq TDDI from a transit, (Identical bottom end and timing gear to this) and that's worse.. due to the turbo and EGR the amount of cr*p you have in the inlet ports is incredible. If they're going to build motors with crappy small ends lacking decent lubrication then they should make them so that you can do it without pulling the lump, clutch, flywheel, crank seal, etc. like we always used to do it.

    No it's definitely a timing chain ! Ford use belts on the mk4 though .

    I believe the 1.6 is a different block, but the 2.0 and 2.3 and 2.5 are essentially the same block and design albeit with different injection and head designs throughout the years.

    there's also a 2.3 16v ~170hp I believe they're about all the same just minor differences like on the 2.3 the dipstick inst in front of the intake, it's kind of in the middle of the valve cover. Basically identical engines.

    Short con rods, high piston pend only 4 head bolts chain drive cams Good points alloy sump main bearing saddle.

    Is this considered a noninterference motor? Because I have my cams off and 12 out of the 16 valves remain down.

    Is it a non interference engine? Because I did a money shift in mine the rpms went up to 8500 (limiter 6700) yet it still works fine

      Im almost certain it is an interference engine. The real problem comes with timing chain stretch and broken guides. Out of time=destroyed engine=interference.

    Most DuraTec engines have timing chains, not belts. Don't know why but this one isn't coil on plug.

      TheFoMoCo1903 i wanna say this is one of the earlier designs. I've got a 2.0 Duratec in my 2005 ford focus, mostly the same except it is in fact coil on plug and also direct injected as opposed to port

      This is an old post, but no. The 2005s are coil-on-plug, but only the 2012+ are Direct Injected. All prior MY Duratec I-4s are Port injected.

    I used this vid to find the location of the thermostat housing so I could replacement it. Impossible to see when the engine is assembled and in the car without taking the headlamp out!

    I have the Duratec 2.3 for my 2006 Ranger, really cool to see how it all works but WHYYYY did they make the PCV valve so difficult to access? (Rhetorical question, I know) I need to change it because I’m getting a lot of oil in my intake and I’m looking at a whole weekend project with my novice at best skills 🤣

    Sweet animation dude! Sure looks easy when you look at this, but doing that whole procedure manually IRL sux royal ass.. Been forced to do this about 4 times at work. Remove the "engine" ((IMHO it's more of an anchor)) / disassemble the whole fucker / change pistons +rings all valves and all that crap... then this fantastic part of getting it back to running order again.. Ya sure learn some stuff, but mostly you feel like blowing the fucker to hell! ^^ +1 for the vid

    Very cool. I've been doing work on this engine, and can actually recognize some of the parts! Some of which I hate with a passion (pcv crankcase under the goddam intake manifold!!)

      Homertoeclipper yes bulletproof indeed, mine has 247k miles on it, brought it with over 150k and used to commute it 30 miles every day, still running strong as hell.

      Finish/Done - Did the exact same thing as you, in December I picked up an old 5 sp escape with 159K on it - giving it some love, getting it ready for another 150K. I've had rangers 96 thru 2006, with the 06 (2.3L) being my present workhorse (but out on loan to my #2 son). That ranger will be with me as long as I'm here. I just touch that thing and it comes to life, first kick. The basics will always get you where you need to go. Be well.

      +Phen0mable Yes, at 2:37 you can see the spark plugs and the ignition coil being installed. diesel engines ignite the fuel using heat from compression rather than a spark so diesel engines don't have spark plugs.
