I saw this on your helmet during the MT03 launch and had NO CLUE that's what it did. That things pretty cool!
What's cool about this product is it can be used with Arai helmets I already own. It's perhaps not as hip, slick, and trick as internal visors (which have their own issues, too) but you get some of that functionality without buying a whole new helmet.
Italian company Nolan made something similar many years ago (ten years?), was called "VPS" or something like that. Was a flop (I had a jet helmet with VPS). Big drawbacks:
1. At high speed it disturbs a lot on bikes with small windscreen.
2. When not used, the colored shield collects dirty stuff in an efficient way. It was very hard for me to keep it clean, expecially in summer with a lot of insects around.
After two months I had to unmount it.
I have the Pro Shade on my Corsair X. It works well. I ride a Tuono and also a KTM525EXC supermoto. I haven't had any issues at sub-ton speeds.
@@ChrisMag100 lucky you. I had mosquitos and insects "sandwiched" between the clear and dark visor while driving in Rome in summer. Quite annoying... : (

I've had a pro shade for a few years now and I am fully satisfied, I wish tough you could replace the visor to wich it is attached...

Nice idea and to be fair this looks much better compared to the internal sun visors ... but overall and in my humble opinion still inferior to the full tinted visor simply because of the gap underneath this pro shade. Same reason why I hate the internal sun visors ... when the sun shines straight above your head all that light gets reflected by the bike's dash straight into your eyes, under the sun visor or pro shade in this case. A full dark visor prevents that from happening.
Yeah you do need to find space to carry your clear visor around but hey ... all these solutions compromise on some areas. At the end of the day it's good we've got options and we can choose whatever fits us best.

Why would you need one on a helmet that already has a PEAK!??

I was making this same decision. I chose the Aria. I've only had it a short while but so far so good. I'm really enjoying it.
I am torn between the blue and red one. I don't know which one to get. I really like the red one but I have a blue yamaha and white helmet.

In Australia, Motoheaven in Melbourne sell the mirror shields.

And when it’s up those nice brow vents are restricted. Also lots of surfaces to get dirty. At the end of a day riding it’s triple grimy

Love mine just ordered the longer shade , my only complaint was it was too short at times. Some commented that it must lift at speed . I can say that it does not. I like it in the visor position at times of the day when the sun is at the right angle.

What accent is that?
The Arai doesn't want to change anything from the production. This helmet, as it stands, is no longer in line with the new EU regulations.
Try to have it open in the rain the dark outside visor and when the sun comes out and you want to lower it it will be trapped between the visors water, dust, insects etc.
For me, its biggest failure is in its effort to stay the same and not develop a new helmet.
That's my experience from that helmet.
Stop and wipe it down, how difficult is that? LOL

I know this comment is old but it's it's own visor. It comes on a clear visor with a smoked shade. You can remove the shade and get a mirrored one as well but it only works on the visor you buy it with due to the special mounting system

Jamie, The BIG Question is, at about what speed km/h will the pro shade drop to the position of the visor?
Wouldn't that depend on your specific head position and the airflow over your bike?
We have not heard or seen any compliments of this, and all in our office have ridden with the Pro-Shade at legal street speeds and not had any issues.

The problem I have with transition is that it takes too long. If you come up on a hill and the sun blasts your face, you can’t just stop and wait
The integrated sunvisor found on most helmets makes way more sense than this.
Arai didn't want to do that which would have required changing the shell of their helmets and thus weakening and altering their designs. I have a pro shade and it works great. There is no buffeting when the tinted shade is locked in the up position.

James Patrick Harris the helmet I use is rated fine. When hitting a truck the rating is not so relevant I guess. How about dirt and water getting trapped between the visors? Any issue with that?

I wish it was an internal system
Internal systems compromise the safety of a helmet by removing critical amounts of the EPS liner to fit the mechanism. That is why Arai refuses to use internal visors. I love mine! No issues so far.
It's a totally crap idea! All this marketing spin about compromising shell strength and size is rubbish. If it were true Shoei and all the other top manufacturers of helmets wouldn't have gone with the integral sun visor system.
You can't get a SNELL rating with an internal visor, which Arai helmets have.
