So this is great, it's about as far as I made it (i gave up after soft locking in SJ act1's boss) Some things I found out though: The l and r buttons can activate the emerald powers wheel. This means you don't actually need the right stick, and a definitive no horizontal movement control scheme is doable. If you get stuck on the vines, the timing for selecting bullet is strict as you can't mash L too quickly. You have to start tapping it as knuckles reaches the middle of the vine, and pray it activates before he grabs back on. With a big enough spin dash, Knuckles can do the fish chase at the end of BI Zone act1 on his own. You just need to conserve your momentum with rolls and jumps. Switching to sonic is far more convenient however! If you haven't already, I would try mapping out the remaining levels using a completed save. There may not be walls in the world map, but you can still use L and R to select a stage after you click on it. Hope this helps!
And another thing, as per gamechamp's semantics rules in the new Knuckles in STH video: the run is still impossible because the character select is horizontal like in origins. Maybe on pc the remapping is different, but I only have the switch version so idk.
@@Sonictmnt I was only concerned with not pressing Left or Right on the D-Pad or Left Stick. Right Stick inputs are fully allowed, since it's impossible to walk with it. And as for character selection, there is a workaround. Players can join mid-stage and are incapable of highlighting characters that are already in play. If Player 3 joins in, they can choose Knuckles without needing to press Left or Right.
Honestly, you should turn your current and future challenges into minimalist challenges, that will ease the pain of declaring a challenge failed. Examples I can think of are gales involving skill trees like Yakuza 0 (Minimum Ability Challenge), Persona 5 Royal (Minimum Level Challenge), Bowser's Inside Story (Minimum Challenge of whatever, I'm not an expert (congrats on getting a 3DS capture card btw)) and other stuff that could get a minimalist treatment.
I did it first! Just Bridge Island act 2 and Golden Capital act 1 though. I didn’t think of using Sonic to get past the sea serpent badnik, that was where my road ended. I also didn’t use the emerald powers because I thought it was “cheating”.
Multiplayer came in clutch for a moment, but the underground tunnels had hands.
Perhaps instead of "how many right or leff presses" maybe "how many levels possible without pressing right or left"

I think in a few places you can easily clip out of bounds, so that could help.
Couldn't find anything in Speed Jungle Act 2, and believe me, I looked.
