Doom actually got me into Metalcore. From listening to the Doom soundtrack, I found Nik Nocturnal and your channel and discovered bands like ERRA, Northlane, Thornhill, Bleed From Within, The Devil Wears Prada, Aviana, Bury Tomorrow, Void of Vision, Electric Callboy, Stray From The Path, Landmvrks, and a ton more. Now I listen to Metalcore non stop.

The feeling you get when you’re hauling ass down the road hitting the nos button with skinny man playing in the background was just unreal. I really like original Mirror's Edge a lot and i think that the soundtrack of this game is the type of electronic music that i want to be implemented by bands into modern metal. The Omission by Loathe is a perfect example of something really similar but still kinda different... I need more of that!
This is why i was disappointed by the last EP of Northlane, because i expected it from them and it didn't happen :(
Also overall Mirror's Edge is still one of the most original games ever and the way it ages is amazing too, the visual part and the atmosphere... Definitely my favorite game, i like it so much that i don't mind the bad sides of it. But also if you're a parkour fan and if you were there in 2008, this game would've feel like some otherworldly experience, this is one of those games i can describe like - "the dream came true".

    • @Brancr
      @Brancr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Northlane are from the future and know this comment exists, their latest ep os the tastiest nod to mirrors edge

    • @Vixfor_
      @Vixfor_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@Brancr Maybe it was a nod but it has nothing from Solar Fields sound, it has a very Mirror's Edge looking cover(which is AI generated and lazy) and color palette, but it has nothing in common with Mirror's Edge OST (in that sense). Maybe it's all were just my expectations, but anyways i still disliked this EP because of the mix

Great topic for a video! GTA and NFS:U2 played a huge part in my musical development as well. However, from the Burnout series it must have been Burnout 3, as I've never played Paradise. I remember listening to Silent Drive - 4/16 for the first time and being blown away. Midnight Club 3 also had some bangers for their soundtrack, introducing me to bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Jimmy Eat World. Last but not least one game that resulted in one particular song being stuck in my head for months back then was Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, the song was Swamped by Lacuna Coil. Listening to any of these soundtracks still evokes good memories.

My dad always listened to metal (and he was staying somewhat up to date with bands such as BFMV or Funeral for a Friend), but my favorite songs from the time came from videogames. The absolute standout imo is Red Flag by Billy Talent which was featured in Burnout Revenge. This song and Hand of Bloob by BFMV I would just put on repeat and play for hours. So so good! Loved the video!

need for speed underground 2 introduced me to rise against, burnout revenge introduced me to comeback kid and funeral for a friend, burnout paradise introduced me to saosin (which LARGELY changed my taste for music in the post hardcore realm). EA games in general had the most insanely diverse choices for music and i have to give it a lot of credit for my introduction to heavier genres. atv off road for the PSP also had some great song choices, and i think one of the NBA 2k games i used to rent from blockbuster back in the day had some bangers as well. so stoked you covered this, i think it's such a unique way a lot of us in the mid 2000's became exposed to rock and metal - you basically covered my entire childhood of music and video games in a single video, i feel so validated hahaha

The one game that got me hooked on how great music is in games is Halo. Specifically the third mission, The Silent Cartographer, where you have to traverse out and it's playing the combat music but this time with a guitar solo accompanying it. When you get to that part for the first, it literally makes you feel like you were unstoppable.
And Halo 2 they pretty much incorporated a good amount of tracks with some metal/rock riffs. Like, Bungie knew that metal/rock just meshes well when you are mowing down aliens, doing a warthog run, whatever. How they got Steve Vai to help them with soundtrack is beyond me but I am glad that it happened.

My metal progression was listening in closely to Shapeshifter on NFSMW while in the main menu and going like "wow, drums are actually a pretty cool thing!".
Then became a Celldweller fanboy, saw he remixed I See Stars, listened to them and "hey, this sounds great! anything else that sounds like this?", he also remixed Asking Alexandria and MIW so I checked them out too and got into 2010s metalcore (MMF, OM&M, BMTH, Attack Attack, etc).
Then Suicide Silence pops in my recommended and thought "wtf is it with all the screaming?", took a month to like them, then came Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel, Attila... then Within Destruction, SOTS, Shadow of Intent, STP, Lorna...
    Thanks Need for Speed lmao

NFS series introduced me to Rise Against and Skindred (U2), as well as Celldweller, A7X and Bullet For My Valentine (Most Wanted). Hell, even the 2010s Hot Pursuit reminded me of how great early 30 Seconds To Mars and Bad Religion were. Still my all-time favorite video game franchise to this day.

Whenever I find metal music in video games it makes me smile. My very first one was "Mechanical Rhythm" from Xenoblade Chronicles back in 2010.
There is also something I don't want to spoil to you, but you should listen to the "Undefeatable", "Break through it all", "Find your Flame" and "I'm here" from the Sonic Frontiers Soundtrack. Never in my life did I expect music like this used in a Sonic game.

Have you played Metal: Hellsinger? It's a first person shooter where every level is based on a custom written metal song, and you have to follow the rhythm of the song to get the best score. Killing monsters to the beat of a metal song is incredibly satisfying.
Also, I'm a bit sad you never mentioned NFS Underground 1. Static-X - The Only, Story of the Year - And the Hero Will Drown, and of course Broken Promises by Element Eighty - my first introduction to screaming. I absolutely LOVED Broken Promises as a teenager.

I'm 32 years old and NFSU1 and Burnout 3 introduced me to so many bands and kicked off my rock and, later down the line, metal journey. So I'm a bit older than you, but pretty much lived through the same journey.
I hate to admit but for many years Lostprophets were my favorite band, closely followed by Rise Against. But we're not gonna talk about the former anymore, yikes.
Shoutout to Story of the Year, Static-X and Element Eighty because of NFSU1, btw.
I'm also soooo much into Unwritten Law (their latest stuff is pretty dope btw), at some point I literally disabled all songs but this one in the game.
I think Burnout 3 OST is still the GOAT when it comes to rock and metal OSTs. Amber Pacific, Funeral for a Friend, The Ramones, Autopilot Off, Yellowcard, Pennywise, Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, The F-Ups, Donots, From First to Last, Sugarcult, New Found Glory, My Chem, Motion City Soundtrack, The Explosion, Atreyu, Jimmy Eat World and many more!

The soundtrack of the Guilty Gear series is absolutely amazing. Guilty Gear is a fighting game basically built on a heavy metal aesthetic and of course it has the original soundtrack to match that. The soundtrack is so good that it has become a meme to say "you get a game for free when buying the album"
My most important childhood metal OST is the inbtro to Dragonball Z budokai tenkaichi 3. That song goes HARD. Speaking about Dragon Ball, the Dragon Ball FighterZ OST goes absolutely nuts.
Fighitng games in general tend to have pretty metal soundtracks which is extra cool for me since theyre my favourite genre of video game.

I was very surprised when in the credits of two of my favorite games Kingdom Come Deliverance and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided played metal.

I’m gonna say the Guitar Hero games, Brutal Legend, Saints Rows 1 2 & 3, Splatterhouse (fucking gem of a game), Devil May Cry 3, and most of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games.

Jak X also had some great instrumental metal songs, still love that game so much and a big part of it is because of the music.

Shoutout DMC5 the soundtrack is metal as fuck. Bury The Light and Devil Trigger are some of the best tracks in the game, and also songs like Subhman and Crimson Cloud which are incredible.
Bury The Light is probably my favourite song of all time a masterpiece in songwriting

Need For Speed, FlatOut, Burnout. Early 2000's racing games were the best when it comes to metal in soundtracks. I will always remember how much better it made the races feel.

Metal Hellsinger & Trepang2 are 2 soundtracks from newer games id recommend. Also if we are talking about goated soundtracks we got to talk about the old Tony Hawk games. Specifically 2. & Guitar Hero 1 & 2

Cyberpunk man, they also created a virtual band called Samurai (by Refused) and songs are pretty cool. And some music in GTA like radio was too heavy even for me though I'm metalhead myself

First game that comes to mind as "metal", is Battletech, both the original and the new one. Music wise can't think of many that would've been metal per se, apart from DOOM. Maybe Remedy games that all have had Poets of the Fall in there somewhere, been a fan of them for ages, especially their keyboard player, whom I've followed since '91 Amiga MOD music days :D
