I can only speak for Glock model 22 springs circa 1996. Recently shot 3 mags that have been loaded since 2001(old duty mags I found stowed away in back of closet) and they worked flawlessly. I would imagine .22 cal springs would be weaker in general and more prone to failure.
i unload each mag every night, in case there is an earthquake
I've had this happen with AR magazines twice. But they where 13.00 California approved magazines. Now my 1911 10 rounder magazine ( chip McCormick )and the and the stock 8 round armscor . I've left them loaded for years now with no issues . Chip McCormick was 45.00 Dollars .
( EDIT ) nice F40.
Older used mags yes, new mags no. I just leave them empty and use stripper clips.
Your test case was one of the worst pieces of garbage guns ever made. No wonder you had issues.
