I got my ASN degree when the college was Broward Community College and graduated in 1984. Now, they offer a BSN. The program was a hard program, when I went there. I heard from others that the ASN and BSN programs were very good. It took me longer, but I took my prerequisites first. It took me longer, because I took summers of to work as an aide to make money. The hospital I worked at gave me a scholarship.

My community college has a RN to BSN three semester program. Originally I was looking at getting my LPN first but my nurse made a good point about not being able to work in the hospital with my LPN and the hospital/ER/ICU is my goal because I am fascinated with CRNAs and am strongly making that my end goal. Also, I hear nothing but amazing things about the WGU RN to BSN program as far as costs and time. I’m definitely going to go for my ADN first so I am a nurse quicker then slowly take the rest of the classes for my BSN. Thanks for the video.

So I have just been researching if I am headed in the right path and doing everything right since I don’t have many people to help me. My community college does have a nursing program that I will apply to after take so prerequisites. I do have a couple questions. Is it harder to find work after graduating from a nursing program and taking the NCLEX. I also want to get my BSN as well, should I do that after ? Thank you so much for this video

I don’t think it would be hard to find a job but that may also depend in what area you live. What you can do is go to the hospital website or wherever you would like to work and just see how many job postings are up for nurses. That would give you an idea.
I also made a video on why I chose to get my BSN. I think you should get it but not everyone wants to or has to. I explain in the video my own reasonings to get my BSN.

Hi Wendy, thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts! I’m 28 and have found that I really want to get into nursing. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do right out of highschool. I have a community college right next to where I work that has a 2 year nursing program that is accredited. My only thing that’s holding me back besides 2 prereqs I have to complete is that I’m a male. It’s a female dominant job from the stats and just nurses I know. I don’t know any male nurses. Way helpful than education in Asia while we consider grade on "graph distribution" on the university level that means C on 85-90 points. Have to be like minimum 97% or 98% to get an A (majority graphs of people are left tailed). Extra credits are not exist. I am glad I don't have to study there no more.

My daughter is a graduating senior. We're Filipinos. Nursing is in our blood. Several members of our family who are nurses at Kaiser in Southern California are discouraging her to get into the profession. They said it's pretty bad and it's getting worst.

Not to sound prejudice or have a stigma, but let's be straight forward and honest. Filipinos in SoCal have the nursing industry on lock, and play nepotism, racism, and every -ism there is, in this field here. I'm not generalizing but most of the middle aged to elderly and/or newly immigrated ones in particular play games towards other people of color! Not an opinion just straight facts! Lastly, they are not supposed to speak Tagalog amongst each other in front of patients and/or employees, but they do this all day long! This comment is as transparent yet not being disrespectful. Just peer experience.

I’m a senior in high school and I’m a bit confused, so if anyone can clear this up for me that would be great.
If I want to get into ADN program I need the prerequisites right? So should I take my general Ed classes along with them? So I would not be in the program until I’m done with these classes which could take about 2 years I think?
Would my college experience look like this: first two years general education/ prerequisites (at community college) then transfer to a university w/ a program and complete the 2 years needed for ADN for a total of four years and then taking an additional 2 years for a bachelor if i want one.

    • @LifeAsWendyRN

Wendi Silva yes you will take the prerequisites with general ed at the same time. Once you’re done, you will have as associate degree in science and can also apply to nursing program. If you go to a university for nursing school make sure you find out what general Ed they require as well because it may be different than community. If u go to a university it will be a BSN program which is 3 years to get bachelors while in nursing school. At least that’s how long it took in our local state university. If you go to community college you will need to do 2 years of nursing program and then apply for a BSN program. I did mine years after i worked as an RN and i did it online and it took 15-18 months.

    • @LifeAsWendyRN

You can either do the associate degree or BSN program. It really depends on how much time and money you want to spend. The associates will not reduce your time for BSN. Associates can take 2 years and BSN 3 years. If u do the associates first then BSN can take about 18 months. Really depends on what school you go to and what classes are transferrable. There’s a lot of factors that go into it.

But If I could do all in community or what’s best? Any tips or advice ?

    • @LifeAsWendyRN
      @LifeAsWendyRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You have to do your prerequisites. We had to have our prerequisites done within 5 years of starting the program. Then you can go straight to nursing school to do RN or do the LVN program and then do bridge program from LVN to RN. You can do both of these at community college. If you want BSN you can do university nursing program instead. I hope this makes sense.
I did the RN program then later did BSN online.

It’s basic math. Plus, now a days the IV pump calculates the drug doses. It’s just basic math for you to confirm you’re giving correct dosages.

My college has an open door policy, is it possible to start my pre reqs without doing GED?

I am not sure about that. In high school, students took math or English college courses during high school but other than that I am not sure. If I were you, I’d find out directly from the school.
