It really makes a difference in the accompaniment how the singer will interpret the song. That was fun! I'm trying to think how I would sing a song through the different variations.
I've watched these videos countless times and there's still something new to notice and learn every time I come here for a rewatch. It's a pleasure to listen to such talented artists. Lia's voice reminds me of Billie Holiday's. And you, Jeremy, what a gift you are. Definitely the best teacher I've ever had. Nobody ever taught me so many techniques and stylistic aspects of jazz piano. I love you guys. Thanks a lot
Wow, that’s awesome that you’re watching from Kenya, Victor! Enjoy and don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s something specific I can help you with.
@@JeremySiskind I will be using some of the techniques you show while accompanying a singer today , especially the two feel and four occasionly with a bass line in the lh - thanks 😊
Thankyou for this Jeremy Siskind. I am studying how to accompany a singer, to the jazz standards, so this is good additional education. I look forward to the others in this series, if there are any. This one was a bit to advanced for me, but enjoyable nevertheless.
That was absolutely brilliant.. one of the best jazz videos I've seen on TH-cam...beautiful singing, and beautiful terrific piano playing...Highest Artistic level....very inspiring....❤️
When u accompany the vocalist with a chord should the top note of the right hand voicing be the same note as the one in the melody? Or can I use different dispossitions that dont have the same note at the top
really helpful video! do you maybe have any insights on soloing in a vocalist piano duo setting? if you are playing stride it is pretty straightforward, but i am struggling to transition smoothly from let’s say a walking bass accompaignment into a solo without it sounding kind of empty
I mean...you're basically a solo pianist at that point. So, learn all of the tricks of the solo piano trade. I think the Bill Evans "bass shell" and "shuttle" strategies are both really solid ones in these settings. Study those Bill Evans/Tony Bennett records!
RE: REGISTER.Another way to understand the register thing. Play the bass such that most of the time the bass notes do NOT go into the register where 3rd or 7ths might best be voiced. Turns out that is exactly the register you said the bass should be. The converse is true as well, don't be playing 3rds and 7ths in the register that Jeremy said the bass SHOULD be. I would love to collaborate with you on a series on this - I have some ideas, about partners, content, and the ultimate benefits that I bet will be transformative. Hmmm. We should talk - and thank you for doing this video.😊
Almost never! We want the singer to have the ability to sing the melody however he/she wants, so we wouldn't want to box them in by playing the melody with them.
Jeremy, u r a crazy good teacher. The best I’ve ever seen.
that’s so nice!!! Thank you!!!
Wow that was so cool! Love playful jazz interactions, they're never more apparent than with a vocalist. Thanks for letting us into that world
I'm so happy you like it. It's so fun to collaborate with a great musician!
More of this please
Two more videos coming in the next week or so. Stay tuned!

Jeremy, you're such a talent. I love working with you!!!
Aw shucks! If only we didn’t live so far away from each other. 😉
You should do a deep dive in voicing behind a singer like what to do with the melody notes and how to tastefully add without getting In the way
Thanks for the tip! That's a great subject! I'll add it to the list.
Suggestion more like cry for help haha appreciate it.
Thank you for this. Really learning a lot from your channel. Subscriber from Kenya🇰🇪

😂 I revealed myself for the amateur I am...
When u accompany the vocalist with a chord should the top note of the right hand voicing be the same note as the one in the melody? Or can I use different dispossitions that dont have the same note at the top
No I would avoid the melody note. They’re singing it so you don’t have to play it
very nice. but when are we going to hear those beautiful pipes of yours monsieur siskind?
That's when I lose all of my subscribers at once! 😂
GREAT LESSON!
Thanks so much, Mark! I don't know why, but TH-cam seems to be promoting this video lately...which is great!

You’re right, Federico! There’s definitely a connection there!
There's a Blossom Dearie track I covered on my new album, Try Your Wings. Please take a listen! ❤️ th-cam.com/video/9LHF4IK9G_c/w-d-xo.html
Not quite.... Different kind of voice.
Could u teach how to harmonize RH. Of Stride piano?
Interesting question! I’ll think about it for sure!

You know where to find me, Paul! I'm glad you've got all the ideas. Lia is pretty great, right?
Does one ever support the singer on the melody itself, or should one always avoid doubling melody notes like the plague?
Almost never! We want the singer to have the ability to sing the melody however he/she wants, so we wouldn't want to box them in by playing the melody with them.
