      Yeah, it's totally one of the things separating "fake" bebop and the real deal!

    Hi Jeremy - the TH-cam algorithm only recently recommended your channel to me, which is bananas, but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your content and your style of delivery. I don't recall if you mentioned it here - I think you have done in another of your videos - but it seems to me noteworthy how many of these leaps take place on the off-beat.

    • @JeremySiskind
      @JeremySiskind  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ooooh, this is the most subtle use of bananas yet! Yes - you’re absolutely right to point out the offbeats. Thank you!

    Aha I did detect that several of your principles come from species counterpoint! - and Schenkerian analysis, am I right? That's helpful for me here as I used to teach that stuff :) Cheers for making melody comprehensible to nerds! 🍌🍌

    • @JeremySiskind
      @JeremySiskind  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've studied a lot of counterpoint. Never studied Schenkerian analysis, although I think I have an idea what the basic principles are. Those things are backbones of music. I'm not intentionally thinking about them, but they're everywhere. :)

    An important video. The counterpoint rule: Leaps resolving etc. makes me think of Thelonious Monk’s ‘Epistrophy’ where the upward leaps in the motif resolve upward by a half step. Great references Re Oscar Peterson (very informative). Thanks again. I’m finding your two bar ‘mapping’? Single chords every two bars, very calming !! (Sorry to not name that properly). Love the ‘compound’ melody description.

    • @JeremySiskind
