My mom's neighbor still owns an early B body Caprice. I can tell it's pre-80 MY because the tailights are wider and it doesn't come with a full 17-character VIN.
It's still in good-ish shape and no rust since we live in the sun belt. What I'm surprised about is her neighbor has used it as a daily driver for at least the last 25 years (that's when they moved in)

Aerodynamic, a brick has smoother edges than a 1981 Caprice.

It definitley has a brick like appearance. The micro chip may also have played a role in designing the Impala. Unlike past automotive designs, it's likely it underwent more extensive wind tunnel testing. The prior generation is sleek, in additional to having more sculptered sheet metal. but this Impala is more chished, its about taking off any extraneous content to come up with the most modern interpretation of vehicle while still retaining the likable attributes of the prior generation Impala's interior rooominess . This Impala is an Olympic track athelete rather than a person dressed in business casual clothes.

When I see this car, it ignites thoughts of United States historical heritage like references to apple pie. Similarly, why not add to the list the Chevrolet Impala. In the eighties, Fairfax County in Northern Va stocked its fleet of police cruisers with a plentiful amount of Chevrolet Impalas. Not going to leave out Ford, with its LTD, which also served on Fairfax Counties police car fleet, but more often than not, the most visible of police cruisers in the 80s in Northern Va, was the Chevrolet Impala. Don't underestimate it. They were equipped with front anti- roll stabilizer bars to enhance handling as well as likely 15 inch rims. It's also possible that at that time, they also had a higher rated 180HP horsepowerr V-8, in comparison to the more subdued civilian variety 140 horsepower V-8.

@4:18 I remember the mushy suspension system these cars had. The Impala/Caprice shown here is sitting on its axel with 6 adult passengers! Sure would have benefited from an auto load leveling system for the back.

Why was the 4.4L V8 not available in California in the 1981 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, & Impala? Just Curious.

While liking the Impala loved the Caprice more looked handsome don't get me wrong love both cars. I would had taken the Caprice Classic these are some tough cars still see one every once in a while remember back in the 2000s these were running on 22"s such a shame on a history car. Back in 2015 when needed another car was going to settle with a used car either a 84-85 Lesabre or 81-83 Caprice Classic much older car that would last until the wheels off these cars are worth collectors it's a shame what GM falling into now at that time made some of the best cars especially the B-Body platforms.

Misaligned trim was something that was acceptable in cars from the 1980's. They expected dealers to fix them. It would never be acceptable today.

@@milfordcivic6755yeah those things are too busy having computer problems built in to make the dealers more money and exploding due to being infected with lithium batteries. They also don't have trim because the retards who designed them don't know jack shit about cars. Would take barely noticeable panel gaps and misaligned trim over today's cars anyday.
