It's such a weird alliance that Alt-righters seem to have made with older conservatives. The Alt-right is largely a bunch of hormonal young men acting like assholes to try and get a rise out of people, but older conservatives may often be assholes, but they generally act above it all, they have notions of propriety and argue through this position of privilege and dignity, where the Alt-right engages through unabashed anger and jeering mockery. Nevertheless, the alliance is struck and older conservatives are more than willing to use these people to try and secure their place in power. In many ways it's not actually unlike the narrative in Doom. The older conservatives are Samuel Hayden who tried to tap into this repressed malicious energy of the demonic, the alt-right who have now been unleashed upon the Earth. The conservatives may be concerned that they don't have control over the situation as they might like, but they're not interested in actually shutting things down, not when there's still the opportunity to personally profit from it, and they're likely to continue holding onto that hope for as long as possible even as what they've unleashed ravages and tears down everything that we all rely upon for survival.
Dont get that argument tbh, I've heard it often as well. I mean, were not worshipping the demons are we? We're beating the hell out of them! (No pun intended)
honestly as an autistic person I heard the "please use the term mortally challenged" and immediately thought it was a satire of people being afraid to say disabled or autistic and trying to dance their way around it. it isn't a perfect metaphor, but I still thought it was funny.
lol glad to know I wasn't the only one or like "remember to say 'person with demonic tendencies', not 'demon'" bc you just know they love person first language
This video made me leave the alt-right pipeline. I'm not even kidding. I watched it, it made points contrary to what I believed, so I found it interesting. A few algorithm-picked videos of yours after I returned to the anti-SJW channels I watched - "Dr Shaym" (Kind of an unpopular Crowder with more effort) and "Genderfluid Helisexual" (A Russian Sargon), and it turned out both of them made videos about this. I was kinda baffled - "What else did they tell me, that was wrong? What else did they lie about?", and then I got into breadtube - Shaun, then Hbomberguy, then Corporate Aesthetic.
That's kind of funny how out of all of this guy's political videos about the alt-right, the one that ended up helping you was one about video games and outrage culture
Anyone with a Cartman avatar or a Master Chief avatar can be presumed to be a pissant child with the sense of humour of an angry old racist man filtered through the tropes of contemporary youth culture.
Getting offended by offensive things? Terrible! Getting offended by people getting offended, or even the hypothetical idea of people getting offended? Great!
Uhm. I think you wrote it wrong. I think it should be: Getting offended by not actually offensive things? Horrible Laughing at people for being snowflakes? Absolutely right!

*"Is it really a controversy if you have to go looking for it?"* Thank you for putting this so eloquently, as usual. I've found that this whole manufactured leftist outrage shtick really took off about a year or so ago, when the whole "SJW TRIGGERED BY HOUSEHOLD ITEM" style of video ran out of steam, so the inevitable response would be for those people to put a magnifying glass to the one touchy bugger in a crowd of people & yell out "LOOK, OUTRAGEEEEE!"
@Dangerous Joy The controversy around Wolfstein was right-wings complaining that the game was "too political" and "left leaning" for killing nazis, what are you talking about?
Your summary of what SJW's are to the Anti-SJW crowd is very reminiscent of something. Something about...." the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak". I can't remember what group uses that rhetoric....surely a group unrelated to the Anti-SJW crowd. Surely.
Jesus Shaun this was almost 5 Sargons long and exposes how something he talked about was bullshit He’s definitely not going to be watching this but you can probably expect an angry incoherent tweet from him

Remember when everyone was saying "KEEP POLITICS OUT OF MY VIDEO GAMES" for Wolfenstein 2. But now are praising Doom for having an "anti-refugee" message.

@Shades of Gray I suppose you think people who struggle with bills should be miserable all the time and avoid anything enjoyable? Because leisure is a waste of time or something.
@Shades of Gray That's not a no. Your own experience and response to your particular situation is not universal. This is a TH-cam comments section, not a place that necessarily demands everyone's time and energy like school or work.
@Shades of Gray Yes. And I've known other people who have been, under dramatically different circumstances. This ain't an opportune moment for a gotcha.
"Today we're going to talk about Doom Eternal, and no, I don't mean Brexit" Christ, I don't think Shaun realised how fucking accurate that joke was when he wrote it 3 goddamn years ago.
It's so ironic and hypocritical, all these guys do is actively search out someone complaining, so that they can make a 40 minute video complaining about how people should stop complaining.
indeed, the thing is because they made a career out it and making money out it they beholden to it. The problem for them is that there's only so much of it they can bang on about before people start get bored of hearing the same old rants so they start inventing stuff to keep the outrage addiction alive.
I have done this before to be fair... But I still feel like I did it for the right reasons! lol Some dude did a video about halo reach (basically my fav game) and he said some things that were easy to disagree with and he was also a hypocrite to a large degree. He talked about a game mode he said was the best thing about the game but when I looked up his gamer tag he apparently played that mode very very little compared to other modes so it seems dis-genuine. Actions speak louder than words after all... He judged the game for being too easy even though his gamer tag record shows that he died quite a bit. Too easy ay? Even if the game is too easy for him he clearly didn't step it up to the highest of difficulties. So wtf dude? So yeah I did a video about him and talked about the points I agreed with and disagreed with that he made. His video was like 30 minutes but mine was like a hour in a half lol.
@@thotslayer6946 Now you're complaining about me complaining about some guy complaining about people complaining about people complaining in a 40 minute video, hipocrate.
The "Tracer's Butt" controversy taught me a valuable lesson about "Outrage" news. Unless it's something clearly and obviously offensive (racist, transphobic, homophobic, sexist, etc), the source of the "triggered SJWs" is someone politely pointing out "That's a bit problematic" or "I dunno if that lands" or "Not keen on that." The media then switches on clickbait mode "Gamers are furious about the new trailer!" or "Angry fan response leads to developers changing the game!" With regards to Tracer's Butt I saw the arguments back and forth as people said someone wrote in and complained to Blizzard and demanded changes and was on a sexist crusade against sexy characters and so on. None of it true. I'd ask people if they'd read the letter and most would try to worm out of saying they hadn't. He'd said the pose was boring and didn't fit the high energy of the character, instead being a "Here's my butt" pose which fit characters like Widowmaker better. Blizzard agreed and since they were thinking of changing it anyway, took that letter as a way of showing fan feedback mattered to them and made it something much more interesting and based on old war time imagery. But if you listened to The Discourse™ you'd assume he was a woman hating fat manbeard complaining about his waifu being debased. So one side screamed against the SJWs. The other side screamed at the anti-SJWs...and over absolutely nothing. Internet outrage discourse really is someone inventing a person and then getting angry at the things their imaginary person is saying.
The ability for content creators to pounce upon non issues and have them regurgitated by their flock of less popular content creators is nothing new nor is it partisan.
I'm not sure if this is some plugin i have for my browser, but when i'm on the recommended page i can move the cursor above above a video and on the right side there will be 3 dots. if you click on that you can click on "not interested" or whatever it is in english. And now you're getting outraged about people being outraged about people being outraged. Woah, Inception! And these people are merely commenting on what's actually happening. You should be far more concerned about the 'values' the SJW crowd are going to pass onto their grandchildren. I bet you're not nearly as critical of SJWs when they get outraged by innocuous, harmless stuff in art and entertainment. No, because _that_ outrage is justified, isn't it....
How did you sense outrage from my comment? You're way more outraged than I am. Also, I imagine the values that "SJWs" will pass onto their children are "Don't be racist or sexist or homophobic," or perhaps, "Be humble and take note of the privileges you benefit from." What is your problem with that, exactly? I used to be "as critical" of SJWs until I realized that blue-haired feminists don't have nearly as much impact on my life as orange-skinned fascists do.

I begin to notice a pattern here with new games coming out, the "capital G Gamers" screaming and raging about some minor thing (the new Wolfenstein, Battlefield 1...then 5), then going on to point and laugh at the cold empty corner of the room where an invisible outrage by the mystical "SJeeeeeWs" about something they interpret far too much into is apparently taking place. Are we sure they dont all suffer from shizophrenia?
I wonder if "theThinkery" will post another think piece where Carl says: "It's like you don't know anything, Shaun." while ironically looking at something that owns himself.
No wonder there are so many alt-right youtubers - apparently literally the only thing you have to do is make the same videos as every other alt-righter, and you have yourself a channel. That's the echo chamber in action right there - go round and round, hearing the same old thing over and over again, but there's lots of people saying it, and it conforms to my views, so I'm right!
Above all this strikes me as transparently shameless and cynical. They know damn well a tweet with two likes isn't indicative of a groundswell of outrage but the viewers might fall for it. That's all that counts. I'm actually surprised they had the temerity to show the number of likes. Shows they don't give their audiences very much credit. Rightfully so, I guess.
As someone who pulled themselves out of the mire of anti-SJW thinking only about a year ago (though I flatter myself that I never bought into the racist anti-immigrant bullshit), it’s fascinating to observe how flaccid and pathetic all the non-drama was all along.
Jorg the Marcnary Spearman Yeah, I mean I dislike what would be considered SJW's, but these are like splintered extremist groups that are more of a casual annoyance at best. They can influence media here and there, but it usaully backfires, so I don't really care in the long run. Basically I don't see SJW's as a monolithic group, I see it more as a term to describe certain small groups, but even that could be an over generalization. Overall, I can safely say that I dislike these outrage manufacters a whole lot more though. Congratulations on getting yourself out of that cult. They should all grow up.
@Serious Man The anti sjw people tend to be rediculously angry, mean spirited, and have no problem with misrepresenting a controversy. They will take one article and say that all progressives are like that. Its frustrating, for instance I think doom looks great. I understand its equally frustrating to be called racist and sexist for not liking a certain game, but Ive noticed the anti sjws constantly making a mountain out of a molehill with these so called controversies. The BFV and the Total War Rome 2 reaction is rediculous. I realized that sjws may have irritating qualities, and they sometimes attempt to jam social politics into games, but I wish they wouldnt label these games as therefore irredeemable and try to ruin them. It really boils down to dont like it dont play it.

I love the objectively untrue narrative of Progressives being "over-offended" and "too sensitive" in contrast to how over-offended conservatives get, frankly over issues that mean far more about people's rights than their own arguments
Not really in this context, though? We're explicitly talking here about the overwhelming narrative about the "over-offended" progressives vs the actuality of far right idealogy thriving on outrage culture, whether you can point to individual people being what you'd consider whiny or not doesn't really factor in, and neither does the "well actually, both sides" thing of guy i was replying to
At one point in Doom Eternal, you see a flashback where you, Doomguy, are a refugee picked up from Hell and brought to the sentinal world. They treat you like fodder, first tossing you in a slave pit to fight for their master's amusement then later conscripting you as a soldier. You eventually manage to impress them so much they make you basically their commandant for invasions of Hell after they finally believe your words are more than just mad ramblings. You also upset their corrupt culture and eventually invade heaven when you see just what their system has done. The game is not anti-immigrant. It's also pro-globalist, because the whole world comes together under one banner to fight the demons. Heck everyone unites in one last push into Hell to kill um- the devil. Turns out the leadership of Hell are these weak little aristocrats who let everyone outside their little citadel suffer unimaginable torture and horror, for a decillion years, just to keep themselves in power. You kill the devil, and throw down that little aristrocratic enclave of spoiled hell jerks. But every time I get to the Gore Nest this video centers on, I can't help remembering that shallow reading these xenophobes put on things and I sigh. That's a shame... Oh, and earth is covered in hell fire , that's the "melting pot" joke. That, and they take everyone and shove them in a big pot devoid of any individuality left and torture them all to create that hell energy. So yes, that satire unfortunately screwed up in being clear, but the greater context makes it pretty clear where Id's staff stands on this. The only issue with it, if you want to find one, is that "great man theory" where a single person can save the rest of the inferior plebs. Yeah, alright that's not good but this is a power fantasy and there's really no way to go about it, save what they attempted to do, which is show a few regular guys being awesome like Intern Guy.

@@aerojetrocketdyners-2538 - Depends on if you mean the Left or Liberals; those are two different things. Liberals are willing to talk about social issues -- gay marriage, abortion, gun regulation, the "War on Drugs," etc. -- and make some half-hearted moves towards doing something about them, but they aren't willing to challenge the underlying economic assumptions that are causing so much damage to this country. Leftists look at all the problems in society today, and conclude that the root cause is the capitalist economic system. When things are run for profit, instead of run to provide the best service or product, then profit becomes the all-consuming goal. Any corner that can be cut, any regulation that can be ignored or lobbied against, any jobs that can be eliminated whether or not doing so will upend someone's life, all of it is fair game if it means increasing profitability. Any for-profit company that fails to pull all the dirtiest tricks in the book will get bought or out-competed by one that is, because the latter company will have reaped higher profits. All of this contributes to utter destruction on the lives of people at the bottom in favor of lining the pockets of those on top. Instead of addressing this, though, society -- and particularly those who are benefiting from this system -- work to turn the people on the bottom against each other. Divide the lower classes over those same social issues -- gay marriage, abortion, gun regulation, the "War on Drugs," etc. -- and keep them too busy squabbling over that to wonder who's really to blame for how shit their lives are. Turn the poor of different races against each other and they won't be able to come after those on top with torches and pitchforks. Leftists look at all this, and want to actually try and do something to fight back against it. To address the root cause of the issue: capitalism and the pursuit of profit at the expense of all else.
@@devinfaux6987 Do to you have an alternative to market-based capitalism that won't get millions of people killed? I agree that the current system is flawed, but it simply needs reformed, not overthrown and replaced with a utopian communist "system".
Something ive consistently noticed in conservatives is that they dont seem to register nuance at all. Something is either the best thing ever or the worst most disgusting thing ever. People saying they liked something in general but didn't care for one small part of it to a conservative mind sounds like wholesale condemnation. Im honestly baffled by it.
They make their identity out of their beliefs and worldview because their ideology is diametrically opposed to people being unique. As a result, they assume that any criticism of a thing they believe is an attack on their very personhood.
This is amusing. I saw the videos recommended that were saying SJWs just freaked out over Doom. To be honest, I just assumed the videos were true and didn't watch them because I didn't really care. Didn’t the Wolfenstein Twitter account say “fuck Nazis” or something, and that triggered a bunch of Anti-SJWs who proceeded to go “Wolfenstein goes full woke :((((((“
Your concluding thoughts on victimisation are spot-on. The victim narrative they've built for themselves needs enemies to justify itself. If they can't find real opposition, they'll basically make it up; shadowboxing phantom victimisers of their own creation.

Wow. this whole video was a breath of fresh air. I was so goddamn sick of seeing those "SJWs this, SJWs that" videos all over my recommended list. It was great to see someone with a head on their shoulders for once, noticing how fake and stupid that whole "Doom SJW outrage" thing was. I consider myself leaning pretty far left, and similarly, all the trailer managed to do is just make me shake my head at how silly that joke was, lol, While at the same time hyping me up for that release. I definitely wanted to get the game. Seeing all these videos coming out after the trailer was just... really weird. Whatever floats people's boats I guess. Ironically.. it seems the "outrage" was more on the right with all those videos vs the handful of "vaguely concerned" tweets. They are quite a troubled bunch, huh. I see you also have a lot of other very interesting videos on your channel. Subscribed, sir! EDIT: I also wanted to say I agree with what you said about that line in the Doom trailer being put there quite obviously to spark discussion and fake controversy. it's really silly. But hey, I guess it worked.
God I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking "okay but where the hell are the people complaining about this?". Thank you for this video. I still fucking loved the trailer. The gameplay looks so fun.
+LordMaledict Oh joy, a dozen people are "offended." Now explain to me why there are hundreds of thousands of people agreeing to these big outrage TH-cam twits. Besides, Twitter is terrible on all sides. If you have to actually look for more than 10 people on a controversy (and not with ease), then it is not a controversy.
GuyNamedErick twitter actually have echo-chamber algorithms, you need to be friend with "some people" to get the results. only the people who knew those people really knew about the quinn letter before that went viral and became gamergate.
@@guynamederick If you had paid attention to the video you'll know that the video author himself didn't like the jokes. So while he's not "outraged" he certainly is not pleased (I know, it's a bit confusing because he contradicts himself). And he went as far as to say that maybe the game is bad and rubbish for this (19:49). What do you call a person that say that an entire game is rubbish just because he doesn't like the story? I'm sure you know that the story it's it's not an important part of a video game, especially a game like Doom, that doesn't need a story at all. Wouldn't you say that a guy that goes to such lengths it's a bit *outraged* ? This video is just as intellectually dishonest and manipulative as the video he's criticizing. Maybe more, because in the end it's true that most SJW didn' t like these jokes, so the controversy wasn't fake at all.
+rvbrexer Except I have watched the video and really, what he thinks of the game wasn't his main point. The main point is simply how few tweets from few people (some just didn't find the joke funny, that was it) somehow boomed all these "LOL REKT SJW" videos from twits like Sargon acting as if Doom is suddenly in their favor (aren't the recent titles pretty liberal leaning). And oh the controversy is still fake, I honestly tried to look up more than a dozen people but I can't find much where people are actually "offended." And really, I saw many people believing the just as bad narrative of these "anti-SJWs", so really, Shaun was not even being dishonest, at least compared to the "anti-SJWs" side of things.
About Cup Head: most people were outraged about the utter incompetence of VG journalists, I didn't see anyone talking about SJWs. If there were, surely these are dishonest people, but why do you give them ammo by not calling out these so-called journalists? Why SJW don't get outraged about those corporate buttlickers that are the "fake" videogame journalists?
So a joke about mocking the Corporation pretending to care about progressivism to make a quick buck is equal to making fun of SJW??? The Right Winger must be playing some advanced 69D Intergalatic Candy Land
I couldn't even find anyone who was outraged by the trailer either... It's almost as if most people understood what they were satirizing and those who pretend to be so intellectual didn't... Well, apart for those who could earn some cash and fame from doing so!
If you take it literally theb you can twist it that way, you would be surprise how many mebtal gymnastic people can make to build the narratve they want.
Nah, it's only 4D. Having to keep track of multiple coexisting versions of the game is way too tedious to be played fairly. It's not a very good example of skill because of how easy it is to lose. At least with 4D Intergalactic Candy Land, you're only dealing with X, Y and Z, as well as the game board changing over time (the fourth dimension).
I see the people who are getting upset because of Wolfenstein as people who are upset with the change in protagonists, the Wolfenstein series has been generally been lumped in the same category as Doom a just let me kill things kind of game where your really only there to see things die in a awesome fashion and so with the most recent game being focused on story and having speeches thrown at you at every Corner I could see why people would be concerned about how the next game is going to be.
I don't think the point is "the other side shouldn't have videos", or whatever, it's more that genuine research and fact checking gets buried underneath mountains of emotional pandering
dathanlo is right. I was guilty of just mindlessly believing in this doom fake outrage. Then I came across this video and well... Where is the proof that tons of leftist extremists are trying to get this game changed or taken away? Exactly...
You bring up the idea of projection, which I think is important. The 2 readings of the joke from the trailer discussed, the supposed anti-immigration take from the left or right wing perspectives, they're something you arrive at by projecting your social anxieties onto the game. Which isn't exactly unexpected or unreasonable, I feel like people treat projection as being some kinda domain of idiots or the easily fooled, but we all do it to some degree. But if you read the joke in an absence of that anxiety, and take the evidence from Doom 2016 (I feel that it's important to remember that the same dev team from 2016 is making eternal) and regard how language was used as a kind of pacifier, in order to try and lessen the rather clear threat that the demons pose against the UAC employees, then it's rather easy to see the intent of the joke. The quotes put in the mouths of these holograms are almost exclusively completely absurd ideas worthy of derision, and to suddenly flip and say "this is a straight faced statement on the part of the developers" is to ignore everything that Doom 2016 built narratively. It also falls into that old depiction vs endorsement hole. I've always felt like Doom 2016's narrative was actually a lot more clever than some people gave it credit for, the story is pretty clearly not just about environmentalism, but the kind of voiceless, exasperated rage that people feel towards those that do harm with a clear and probably totally amoral intent to do so. The oil companies stifle progress on renewable energies, while conducting research that confirms the damage fossil fuels are doing to the planet. They know what they're doing. But that corporate amoral distance allows these people to do great evil. Doom 2016 was a game precisely about that frustration, like it's telling that the Doomslayer looks down at the clear evidence that this wasn't for the good of mankind, that he smashes the argent energy filters rather than carefully removing them as commanded. Because he knows all of this is absurd, that these people have lost their goddamn minds, that the world will be destroyed by these demons. Just as our world will be destroyed by burning fuel we, in reality, don't need to be burning at all, but feel obligated to burn through a concerted propaganda campaign to plant the idea that they're necessary since green energy is not "realistic." The game ends with you essentially "losing," having the weapon that can defeat the demons taken from you, with Hayden trapping you, ultimately being a tool that was manipulated in bad faith. Even in a game that gives you great power, the ability to destroy your enemies, you don't win. There is no catharsis.
One of the best parts of Doom 2016 is when the Doom Marine is about to destroy Vega, and Vega is all meek and goes "It's over", so the DM makes a backup of him before destroying the core. He takes the backup with him and it's likely still with him in Doom Eternal. Besides being notable as the first time that the Marine doesn't kill or destroy something, it shows that he is not just an angry edgelord who likes breaking things, but he understands who is doing the bad things and who is trying to just make it better for everyone. Vega is also the one who proposes to sacrifice himself to send the Marine back to Hell, so he is the only "good" character in the whole game in addition to the DM himself. All of this escaped from the "masculine" sight of anti-sjws of course, to them the Doom Marine/Slayer can only be a edgy dudebro who destroys things because it's cool.
Pretty sure people tagging the hologram jokes as antisjw or anti immigrant are reading into it a bit much. It's just the normal corny "this demon shit is business as usual move along." from the first game.
Right? It's just a joke. No big deal. Hardly any leftist people freaked out about it but the salt right types out there really made it seem like a big deal.
I'm pretty confident it was like Shaun mentioned, just an extension of anti-corporate themes of the UAC in Doom 2016. But I could see how it would appear to the people without that context.
There was a joke in a Dilbert strip in which the Pointy-Haired Boss says to the PR writer "Our new product causes sterility and hallucinations!... Try to put a positive spin on that..." BOOM. Literally the same joke as the holograms in Doom Eternal.
2 years later and this video is still arguably just as relevant Doom eternal came out and was absolutely amazing, I got sucked into the videos you talked about awhile back while I was in the Alt- Right pipeline and now that I'm out I'm out I can confidently say that Doom eternal is not a political game what so ever, I interpreted the jokes the same way you did, It's so mind boggling how these people just want to stir up drama while claiming they've been attacked and provoked by the left despite no one doing anything like that. Thanks man, you've just earned a new sub.
I want my old completely realistic Battlefield back, with respawning after a few seconds, and soldiers knowing perfectly how to handle every one of the dozens of vehicles and hundreds of guns. Now that was very realistic... Women in WW however... unheard of!
its more complicated than that, its not as little as you make it out to be. Its the fact that this keeps happening and and people from the company go on social media and call their fans stupid for wanting historical correctness.
what i've learned is this: there is nothing the alt-right hates more than someone asking questions or raising new points about things. it's so bizarre.
Looking back at this after playing Doom Eternal and hearing Shaun's concerns about it being bad I'm glad to say Doom Eternal is not only better than Doom 2016 it's probably the best single player shooter game ever made. About the whole "mortally challenged" part, Shaun was right, it was just a mega corporation co-opting progressive language, though this corporation is completely overtaken by demons this time...
They absolutely could make a video about anything they made up and get hundreds of thousands of likes and views. It doesn't matter if it's made up out of whole cloth. They've successfully hoodwinked their audiences enough that they will believe anything and everything that they say. And some of the anti-SJW channels will even believe the crap that comes out of their own mouth too. I absolutely believe Sargon believes the things he says, at the very least.
Yeah, too bad everyone still thinks she deserves hateed for even shitting in a toilet, seriously the alt right would probably scream about a manicore or something if antia was involved
Having finally watched a video of hers by watching Rags analyzing it, I gotta say she doesn't know anything about game design or mechanics as metaphors. I've been watching Rags to get a different perspective than my usual one, and he falls into the trap of counterpointing almost everything the other person says even if it makes him sound insane and hypocritical. I don't think we should equate Anita with people who have better analysis solely because her politics are the same.
I didn't exactly extract the anti-corporate message the first time I saw the trailer, I just thought it was just a joke about how silly of a concept it would be to apply human empathy and compassion by giving polite terms like "mortally challenged" to literal demons from hell. I can see how people take these anti-immigration messages out of it (who are perfectly entitled to do so) but I just find it interesting as someone who knew almost nothing about this supposed "outrage" prior at how vastly different interprerations were of the trailer by right-wing outlets. Makes me think of American History X, not that extreme obviously but how the anti-nazi message was interpreted as pro-nazi by neo-nazis.
Rightwing nerds aren't known for getting any kind of deep message. Back in the Gamergate days they were constantly using Neo, Bane and Tyler Durden as their symbolic icons - all deeply ironic choices, considering one is a walking metaphor for the trans experience, another is a manipulative liar who uses revolutionary rhetoric to cover for his destructive agenda, and the last one is a delusion that traps his followers in a replica of the same hell he says he's freeing them from.
>Ayn Rand >deep message I laughed m8 But honestly, Ayn Rand literally wrote Fanfiction. She never engaged in any kind of discussion, and when her pretty bullshit arguments were *dEbUnKeD™* she also never answered. Paradoxically, she is the top figure of modern day "Anarcho" - Capitalism, not one of the other Ancaps, like Robert Nozik(which i even respect in some way, at least he didn't screech all the time about "muh commies")
An overt white supremacist I grew up (he used to drive around blaring KKK music) with who's now a full patch HA _loved_ that movie, second only to (oddly, IMO) "Blood In Blood Out".
What was said: "Yeah, the game looks really cool, I can't wait to play it! I was bummed out by the lazy comedy in the trailer, but overall I'm giddy with excitement to play another great shooter in 2019!" What /pol/ read: "LIBTARD SJW GOES BERSERK AFTER GETTING ULTRA TRIGGERED BY RACE REALIST 'DOOM' TRAILER."
Don't really understand why the comedy was lazy. It wasn't even the focal point for more than 5 seconds of a fucking 8 minute showcase of massacring demons.
This comment section in a nutshell: "Hah, we were only pretending to be retarded with our progressive identity politics the entire time, anti-sjws, we sure fooled you!' Yes, good job you really got us. And the guy above is right, the comedy isn't lazy it just doesn't pander to you.
Cool E I would like to sincerely applaud you for that really good parody of someone who doesn't understand what's being talked about or what anyone is saying, you really had me going there for a bit
So what parts of the comedy were lazy in the trailer specifically? Or is your x,y,z response just a Boogeyman too? Through what scope where they lazy? Politically, In terms of comedy, historically...? The funny thing is that comedy is subjective enough to the point that most normal people can look at a joke understand why people find it funny yet not laugh at it, but all you've done is say "The joke is bad", to you maybe in an opinion way? I don't think you understand that you not finding it funny doesn't make it a non viable piece of comedy, also are we discussing the physical comedy in the trailer or the verbal comedy, again you don't really specify which. You wouldn't happen to be a professional or amateur comedian, script writer, just like anything that might mean your opinion is more than just the opinion of someone who didn't find a joke funny? Are you sure the whole "we were only pretending to be retarded" thing doesn't relate to this exact comment you've made? I hope your expertly crafted taste in humour and comedy can carry you over the fact that other people laughed at the joke and it'll probably be in the game with more like it, it seems your not a fan of that, and you're here complaining about a secondary situation (whether there was or wasn't a controversy isn't really important to the discussion at this point) where people supposedly created a fake outrage and I gotta say you seem what's the word? Oh yeah a little outraged, you might not be outraged at the jokes made (I honestly don't think you understand comedy enough to make that kind of emotional decision even if most of what you do is driven by emotional thinking) but you're definitely still outraged about a situation that I have to say doesn't seem to have effected or bruised anything about your person atleast in the physical sense, mentally though it seems it's thrown you into a bit of a tizzy is this where I find out its more of a "I was only pretending to play into the exact stereotype I'm averting in a really weakly formed way" type of situation? I've suddenly realised I don't really care, there just isn't much on tv tonight and your total lack of ability to explain why you particularly didn't like the joke was just fun to go through :)
The Fake Outrage turning into an unexpected franchise is probably my favorite media moment of 2018. Apart from the 25,000 feet one-take skydive where Tom Cruise tries to kill himself, that is.
Fake outrage being used as marketing has been around for a very long time. Grand Theft Auto and Hatred spring to mind, but there's also Rock and Roll and probably movies that did it too.

I love how the final game resulted being anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism, anti-hierarchies, anti-religious, pro-enviroment and in general a lawbreaker
Doom Eternal? I don't know, the story didn't make a whole lot of sense. And I wouldn't say it was anti-religious, considering how the Doom-Slayer ended up having people worship him as their literal lord and savior against the demon hordes, starting a faith-based cult even. I have no idea how you get the idea that it mentioned anything about imperialism or hierarchies. That is unless you're talking about 2016.
Yeah, I can’t really agree with this reading. It may have been a valid read of the first doom reboot, but the second one just kinda felt like a marvel movie to me. Great game, for sure, but not a terribly meaningful story.
@@sealogic4552 Yes, I can see that Eternal maybe didn't follow so much the anti-corporate ideals (although I still insist that there is possible to have that reading), but 2 things: 1- That doesn't erase the message of the first reboot and 2- I think Eternal followed with a clear anti-authority message, and doubled it with the DLCs, since you directly kill all authorities figures.

@@nerdychocobo mormon i think, the protagonist in Doom is meant to be Catholic too.

The "Tracer's Butt" controversy taught me a valuable lesson about "Outrage" news.
Unless it's something clearly and obviously offensive (racist, transphobic, homophobic, sexist, etc), the source of the "triggered SJWs" is someone politely pointing out "That's a bit problematic" or "I dunno if that lands" or "Not keen on that."
The media then switches on clickbait mode "Gamers are furious about the new trailer!" or "Angry fan response leads to developers changing the game!"
With regards to Tracer's Butt I saw the arguments back and forth as people said someone wrote in and complained to Blizzard and demanded changes and was on a sexist crusade against sexy characters and so on.

The thing that made me an sjw is seeing how the "skeptics" treated people like Milo

@@devinfaux6987 i didnt mean SJWs .Can i know what is a person on the left like as i am personally center right
@@aerojetrocketdyners-2538 - Depends on if you mean the Left or Liberals; those are two different things.

Just as our world will be destroyed by burning fuel we, in reality, don't need to be burning at all, but feel obligated to burn through a concerted propaganda campaign to plant the idea that they're necessary since green energy is not "realistic."
The game ends with you essentially "losing," having the weapon that can defeat the demons taken from you, with Hayden trapping you, ultimately being a tool that was manipulated in bad faith.

Try to put a positive spin on that..."

These are the same people who had a meltdown when someone put a woman in a battlefield game, right?
@Game james lol, go outside kid
I want my old completely realistic Battlefield back, with respawning after a few seconds, and soldiers knowing perfectly how to handle every one of the dozens of vehicles and hundreds of guns. Now that was very realistic... Women in WW however... unheard of!
@@c-r nice rebutal. I can see you're a fountain of wisedom.
its more complicated than that, its not as little as you make it out to be. Its the fact that this keeps happening and and people from the company go on social media and call their fans stupid for wanting historical correctness.
Noooo, people were made because EA called its consumers a bunch of idiots.
It's easier to attack an imaginary enemy created by you than to attack a real "enemy".
what i've learned is this: there is nothing the alt-right hates more than someone asking questions or raising new points about things. it's so bizarre.
If you start asking questions or making jokes about race and gender the other side does the exact same thing, it's so bizarre.
Looking back at this after playing Doom Eternal and hearing Shaun's concerns about it being bad I'm glad to say Doom Eternal is not only better than Doom 2016 it's probably the best single player shooter game ever made. About the whole "mortally challenged" part, Shaun was right, it was just a mega corporation co-opting progressive language, though this corporation is completely overtaken by demons this time...
lmao the targeted ads for the anti-SJW's browsers
The fucking bodypillows lmaoooo
MetalDinger All of the hentai apparently.
Anti-SJW: "I don't like unnecessary drama!"
Also Anti-SJW: creates unnecessary drama.
They'll believe anything that fits their narrative or make them feel good about not being an SJW. So much for "facts" over feelings...
The anti-SJWs can't even see how SJW they are themselves
making a joke about something is making unnecessary drama?
Wisp Man No because they don’t overreact to small things, they sit down with some chips and watch the fire burn, and time to time prod the flame
hbomb, philosophytube, and shaun in two days?!? anita must be smiling on us...
Now we'll have to wait another month.
Dark mother, cold mother, etc, etc.
Yeah, too bad everyone still thinks she deserves hateed for even shitting in a toilet, seriously the alt right would probably scream about a manicore or something if antia was involved
Dan Olson and Lindsay Ellis also uploaded!
Here after Doom Eternal came out, and yeah, it seems much more like satire of corporate talking points rather then anything else.
I've noticed they hate it when "leftists" criticize greedy corporations, yet they make 30+ videos criticizing EA for that exact reason
Makes me think of American History X, not that extreme obviously but how the anti-nazi message was interpreted as pro-nazi by neo-nazis.
>alt righters thinking that the real antagonists are the demons and not the guys that brought them here the first place
>cApItAlISm
Rightwing nerds aren't known for getting any kind of deep message. Back in the Gamergate days they were constantly using Neo, Bane and Tyler Durden as their symbolic icons - all deeply ironic choices, considering one is a walking metaphor for the trans experience, another is a manipulative liar who uses revolutionary rhetoric to cover for his destructive agenda, and the last one is a delusion that traps his followers in a replica of the same hell he says he's freeing them from.
>Ayn Rand
>deep message
I laughed m8
But honestly, Ayn Rand literally wrote Fanfiction.
American history x may not be a good example of people not getting it
What was said:
"Yeah, the game looks really cool, I can't wait to play it! I was bummed out by the lazy comedy in the trailer, but overall I'm giddy with excitement to play another great shooter in 2019!"
What /pol/ read:
"LIBTARD SJW GOES BERSERK AFTER GETTING ULTRA TRIGGERED BY RACE REALIST 'DOOM' TRAILER."
Don't really understand why the comedy was lazy. It wasn't even the focal point for more than 5 seconds of a fucking 8 minute showcase of massacring demons.
This comment section in a nutshell: "Hah, we were only pretending to be retarded with our progressive identity politics the entire time, anti-sjws, we sure fooled you!'
Yes, good job you really got us.
Furionic696 why did you write two huge walls of text about subjective opinions on humour
The Fake Outrage turning into an unexpected franchise is probably my favorite media moment of 2018. Apart from the 25,000 feet one-take skydive where Tom Cruise tries to kill himself, that is.
That movie was all over the place
Someday, it'll work and I'll rejoice.
Did he succeed?
No. He ended up creating the best action movie I've seen since Fury Road.
Fake outrage being used as marketing has been around for a very long time. Grand Theft Auto and Hatred spring to mind, but there's also Rock and Roll and probably movies that did it too.
"You could sell these kids sand in the desert if you told them SJWs didn't like it." Too true.
SJW now = Straw Justice Warrior.
Very good.
I'm co-opting this
That sarcasm is as dry as hardtack
I wonder how many people even know what hardtack is these days.
what is as you say it "hard tack"?
By, "these days," do you mean post Civil War? When was hardtack phased out anyways?

Essentially flour and a bit of water, possibly also a touch of salt and that's it. Made into a biscuit type food stuff that would last quite a while, typically used on ships as rations for it's crew back in... Uh... Really old times idk. Taste like crap though.
Exavior31
They sound like terrible Garibaldi biscuits (the worst part of the biscuit tin).
Sep 1 2018 :I feel like this one's just gonna fizzle out
March 26 2019: I have heard literally NOTHING about this controversy since then
You done it again Shaun. Excellent thinking.
Evil corporations in games are nothing new. Remember Hyperion and the Umbrella Corporation?
What game did you play lol there’s certainly a story but it’s hidden away in codexs and just expands the lore
Yeah, I can’t really agree with this reading. It may have been a valid read of the first doom reboot, but the second one just kinda felt like a marvel movie to me. Great game, for sure, but not a terribly meaningful story.
@@sealogic4552 Yes, I can see that Eternal maybe didn't follow so much the anti-corporate ideals (although I still insist that there is possible to have that reading), but 2 things:
1- That doesn't erase the message of the first reboot and
2- I think Eternal followed with a clear anti-authority message, and doubled it with the DLCs, since you directly kill all authorities figures.
How I have never heard of your channel, I do not know - but this was a brilliant, entertaining and satisfactory video about a supposed controvery that I, thankfully, wasn't even aware of. Instantly subscribed.
Massive lol about all the people quoting that tweet having adverts for mega-boobed hentai figurines in the background. (Edit: About 16:40)
Not gonna lie, I read the joke as mocking the alt-right. "Remember, Nazi is an offensive term. Please refer to them as Alt-Right instead."
And of course "racist is the white 'n-word.'"
great comment clappy clappy
@@jackskellingtonsora That's because twats use it to silence....
@@GallowayJesse It's ok to write
Either way, the "joke" was extremely lame.
It's amazing how easily triggered and sensitive the anti sjw crowd is.
True, and they call SJWs snowflakes when they do the same thing.
