I had zero problem with connections today - Got green first without even considering clock because meter, rhythm, beat, and time are all things I've seen used to describe the same _sort_ of thing for music, then spotted yellow. Blue was trickier to spot but I got there from 12 jurors in a jury and 12 months in a year, from there putting inch in was easy and donut was a bit more abstract (I wasn't _entirely_ convinced I hadn't fallen into a red herring when putting it in). With purple I'm not sure I'd have figured out the category even if I was used to 'dog paddle' as a phrase rather than 'doggy paddle' but I'm not sure if that's a UK vs US thing or something even more dialectic.
Mini Crossword, I ran into a few ruts and finished it in 2 minutes and 12 seconds. I didn't know the dances and tried SALSA for each. I thought it was birth instead of labor. Took a bit of time to unravel all that.

I was wondering about CARS for a while, Maybe Ford (the company) focuses on cars? Ford Focus is not a bad car though; we test drove one for a weekend (Future Ford of Roseville was very generous) and we drove it to South Lake Tahoe. The car was ok, very affordable and reportedly one of the more reliable Ford models. But we prefer Asian style controls. We have owned a Corolla, a Civic and a Mazda. We now have our second Leaf and our second Forester. They are the best. But Huyndai Ioniq or Kia EV6 would not be out of consideration the next time we go car shopping. Have I mentioned: my neighbor bought a new Lucid just to show off. Very good Strands! I got it too. Yummy.
I saw the 12 connection with JUROR MONTH and INCH but since I never buy doughnuts in twelves, that didn't initially occur to me and DAYS was written in plural, thought maybe they were talking about 12 days of christmas, after which I saw the doughnuts as a dozen and in doing so I made my own group of 5 so I could have been chasing a 'one away' not knowing which was the one not in the group.
It's funny, the two categories you had trouble with, I got right away. Light and purple in that order. then I got green and yellow in that order for a perfect solve. So, I found the puzzle easy and my thought were in line with the Companion.
Yellow tricked me with a ton of red herrings to the point where I had one guys left to tell blue and purple apart.... this was very difficult. I thought it mightve been "___ duty" but it was juror instead of jury. Ugh. It took forever. Like.... 12 minutes to think of it xD
I was confident in 3 of the categories and by process of elimination got purple first without thinking of dog____. Got the order of green and yellow wrong and didn't get the reverse rainbow.
I saw Juror and Donut and immediately thought of 12. I almost put Clock in with it because of 12 hours, but removed it because it wasn't 12 Clocks. So I got blue, green, purple and then yellow last.

When I saw Juror I immediately thought of "12 angry men" so I got the 12 category easily. I didn;t think this one was too bad.

Very tough connections today. Was mad at myself for not getting the 1/12 but my brain wasn't going there.
