    The issues with HAGS aren't from a negative impact on the game, but rather a negative impact on other GPU accelerated software while a game is running. Video capture for streamers, video playback on secondary monitors, etc. will all stutter and be starved for resources when HAGS is enabled, if the GPU usage is at 100%. This is why VR gamers have issues when using HAGS, since usually they are streaming the game to their headset and HAGS makes the reprojection and capture components of getting the video feed to the user very starved for resources. HAGS is excellent when you are not multitasking, but terrible when you are multitasking at 100% GPU load.

    Older games prefer to use fullscreen to have full control on monitor frequency, since they used to not support variable frame rate.

    in my experience, full screen allows u to change game resolution with boost fps when its low, but borderless in some games may and may not allow u to change resolution, even if it does allow u, the changes will affect the borderless window size, making it smaller and u will be able to see the behind of ur game, like desktop or other running apps, so fullscreen is better, allowing u to keep game size to fullscreen, may looks bury or pixelated on low resolution but it worth it for old PCs

    fullscreen vs borderless depends heavily on what graphics api the game is running. In dx12 games for example "fullscreen exclusive" doesnt exist anymore, instead hardware independent flip is being used which is on par or even better than exclusive (even in borderless HIF is being used). Regarding the windowed and full-screen modes, I suppose, either the graphics drivers or the OS have done something about its frame scheduling that almost eliminates the difference. I expected numbers being way worse for the input lag.
    In any windowed mode the game must wait for the OS to refresh the screen which shows the game frame as well, hence acting as an input lag of 1 screen refresh delay (at worst, ideally). But the higher the refresh rate of the monitor, the less of the impact that added lag has, since on 240 Hz monitor it's only 4 ms. Might be very noticeable on a 60 Hz monitor if the base lag was low.
    Full-screen takes exclusive control of the entire screen making it possible to flip buffers whenever (which makes possible for screen tearing to happen). If the app controls frame timing internally and pushes the next frame right before the screen update, there shouldn't be much difference between full-screen and windowed. It might be that more modern games do that, but I remember windowed mode in Overwatch 1 (on release) having very noticeable input lag on a 60 Hz monitor. It felt like I left the handbrake on on my mouse.

    • @pc_blend
      @pc_blend  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep you're right, most modern-ish games can take advantage of flip-model presentation which adds very little input latency. Older games did not have this optimization, hence why it used to be a common tip to use Fullscreen, but it's no longer necessarily true. I'm planning to add older games to my testing once I can figure out a way to get good consistency without relying on an in-game benchmark.

    This tips are partially true for FPS games that are often CPU bound tasks.
    If you take the benchmarks in triple A games where the GPU do the majority of the job you are going to see the results you've shown.
    Also it's the union of multiple things that give u the better FPS and less input latency.
    I play valorant, cs2 and Xdefiant with 1,8/2,1 ms of input lag starting from 10/12 when windows is just installed and the game started without optimization.
    I can assure you that if you do the proper optimization for the proper game you are going to see a massive difference. But if you do the optimization for Warzone 3 and then run cyberpunk 2077 you are not going to see the difference, because warzone and cyberpunk are just separate worlds in terms of performance allocations between CPU, RAM, cache and GPU.
    To see the difference try any FPS games in a CPU bound environment like 1080 or 720 all low with a overkill good GPU for that resolution.
    Valorant, CS2, Apex, cod, Xdefiant, Fortnite ecc ecc..

    On my old computer a lot of games felt worse in borderless mode. Maybe it was 1% lows? Because the FPS was always the same number in borderless and fullscreen but it never felt smooth in borderless. My current PC doesn't have this issue.

    One thing about HPET.
    Disabling HPET removes the stuttering and skipping of the mouse when you're using a wireless mouse on 4k Polling rate.

    Had me till you said you "limited" pc resources. Balls to the wall low end pc vs med-high range "limited" isn't great testing example imo. There's things like the layout of the chip, the size of the die, bus lanes, the list goes on that can influence the better rig in positive ways that can skew the results. The age can also influence it too, a lot of variables.
