I hope nurturing your senior employee's creative brilliance doesn't come at the cost of their teams' and subordinates' mental health, which is usually the case with these "brilliant but disorganized" characters that companies let roam and do as they please.
I trust they are not simply hyper-ambitious egomaniacs with just enough competence to bulldoze their way into a higher status and pay bracket at the cost of other people's well being.

Alhamdulilah, as Muslims we meditate 5x a day for 5-10 minutes. Completely detaching from everything worldly. I couldn't imagine my life without this peace. To the people who don't know what meditation is or how to start. Sit in a quiet place, have words that you repeat to yourself or affirmations. Ask the Creator (Allah, Nature, the Universe) whatever terminology befitting for you of your needs and have a conversation. You're engaging with your core self when you do this. Your inner self, and honestly it's unmatched.

I want to be young again, not bc I want to be physically beautiful but bc I would love to be young and have access to the wonderful wisdom that podcasts and people like these two impart. I agree wholehearted with you.. I only really use the internet as a learning tool, so many experts to learn and heel yourself.
Addiction has took so many years from me. Also ive damaged my heart.
The mind is powerful. I said to myself im better than this so i detoxed myself off heroine by myself with no medical help and funny enough my family were all away on holiday.
My family thought it was impossible.. But my attitude and mindset was unbreakable. Three weeks of what i can only describe as hell on earth. Then i gave up smoking to. I smoked for 35yrs. I changed my diet and workout every day.
I look good and im starting to feel better and more confident.
Now im thinking i am powerful and what else can i do moving forward.
Id just like to say to anyone suffering from addiction..only you can do it and its so do able....also learn to love yourself and let the past traumas go, you can't change it and it will stop you moving forward to the great life we all deserve.

I wholeheartedly agree with this and yet am saddened by the belief that so much of our youth attention spans are being high jacked by at best senseless, at worst toxic, short hit unfocused streams of media i.e. tictoc. Anxiety levels are at all time highs. People don’t usually search for and discover these other modalities for healing and wisdom and peace until they reach a point of meaningless and hard moments chasing those dopamine hits.

    • @naiyalexic

For sure. I made it a mission years ago, after over 20 years working for software corporations, to start avoiding jobs which require constant speed and productivity, because it's an unrealistic pace long-term. It's not that I don't want to be productive, or that I'm lazy. I can see pushing to get a project out, but when it's expected daily-weekly-quarterly-yearly, it ruins people's sanity. As a sidenote, people also tend to judge us for having a degree of emotional mastery that allows us to pause and think before we respond, even when we're angry. It's like, "What? Why aren't you ANGRY? I'm angry! You should be having this reaction too! What's wrong with you?"

I’m secretly hoping that the increasing number of people meditating throughout the world will start to make a difference. The hive mind for being good and decent to our fellow humans, wherever they live and however they choose. Sure would be interesting to live in a world where compassion and kindness were as valued as financial gains.

The importance of moving more slowly - the CORPORATE world does not or seldom tolerates any such idea - but great to hear it said, so much I have put it into words:
"To be able to look at your life and say you know what, I can't answer any more emails right now, I do not feel good, I need to go for a long walk, or I need to meditate, I need to take some time for myself, it is absolutely a radical act, and it is necessary, because if you are trying to live a life of thriving, like a good life, then you need to be able to live that life at your own pace. If I am trying to match your pace, then it is not going to work for me, you and I are very different people. We can both be productive in different ways, but we have to do it in ways that honour our internal systems, and we are just not going to be the same."

I love the concept of not being constrained by reality in relationships and realising that we are just ‘bundles of atoms’ interacting at a high frequency. I have thought this for so long and it was good to hear it all verbalised. It takes away the labels we ascribe to the ‘other’ and ‘ourselves’ and we can appreciate the oneness of everything and everyone. It’s a level of peace through a sense of wonder in a quieter mind 🙏

I've had to push a friend away steadily in past decade after having known for prior 30 years, bcuz there is no way to totally keep even the darker mentalities out of our own entirely, when they're right next to us, acting seriously unconscientiously (& actually pathologically)

I'm at the point in my life where I completely regretted what I did in the past (when I say past, I meant the past 2 years when everything went horribly wrong) and it was so hard to move on so I decided to watch this. I'm still not that optimistic about the future, but I know that I have to do something with my present and yes, let go of the past that seemed to forever hang around like a shadow.

When you find yourself thinking about past mistakes, turn it into a positive learning experience by thinking of ways you could have avoided making that mistake or how you could correct it, if possible. Then immediately move on to doing something positive and beneficial for yourself.
Even if you’re not feeling very optimistic now, start the practice of living your best life. Plan and prepare to do something productive tomorrow. Leave a reminder note for yourself that you will see in the morning, set your alarm, get up early tomorrow and do it. You can apply for employment at various places you think you would like to work, check into learning a skill, organize your living space, join meet up groups that do activities that interest you, etc. Training yourself to be more positive takes practice and with consistency it soon becomes your new way of life. The benefit of living a better life and feeling good about ourselves is worth the effort.

stillness is always a good start 😌🙏🏼 - meditating is the door to awareness, peace and freedom.
you get to know yourself and you feel the effect of it through others.
you do it for being in balance, you do it for the people around you and for yourself.
sometimes when I miss some hours of sleep or feel overwhelmed or exhausted, I meditate for 20 minutes and feel good and calm.
    headspace is useful.
so ask Andy Puddicombe to be a guest at DOAC?
I meditate since 1989 and got lots of "eyes" for it, when someone found out. I learned it from a guru - and I was just curious about how my mind works.

wise u were and are. I'm an american and meditation was pretty popular-ish but yeah some 'eyes' or pseudo-mocking of it perhaps, bcuz i think american culture was partly deep-down nasty/brutish and that theme has come to fruition as we've seen in the past decade, in reactionary-ism, unfortunately.

the vipassana experience Diego refers to, that singular thing helped me though suicidal depression spells for 4yrs. had i taken pills for it, i can't even imagine the dosage increase over the time and how it wud've impacted my body negatively. but just this one practice with no side effects.
ps., i practiced meditation for 13months unbroken even a single day, 20mins morning and as he said, it is the best investment for myself.

I attended a 10-day Vipassana silent retreat in Tarija, Bolivia, in 2018, but only managed to stay for four days. I always have been the kind of person that looked for the easy fixes/ easy A's, so I thought I'll do the 10 days and voilà IM FIXED. Nope, I sweated through all my clothes in those 4 days- I was scared to face myself.
I got married on my farm in Bolivia in 2015, but my husband left me in 2017, saying he didn't love me anymore. That experience broke me and revealed my deepest fear: rejection, which has held me back in many areas of my life.Vipassana is no joke. Not only do you have to train in meditation, but you also have to face yourself before going. I wanted to fix myself in those 10 hard days, but I had so much self-hate that I became scared of my own mind. This retreat made me realize how much I need to train and work on myself. Despite the difficulties, it was a transformative experience, and I'm committed to loving me❤

interesting. I watched a friend with a gorgeous big massively successful family, adult children when divorce happened that devasted the husband my friend who was a great sensitive brilliant guy. He moved far away, back to original home city to live with a sibling. A lot of depression as well as some drinking and some later MJ intake, which of course most smart ppl know is bad news for most ppl really, but especially not young, and especially ppl with mood issues. 16 yrs passed, and then dead by covid within two weeks of getting it, even tho fairly healthy 70 y.o.

Through your amazing podcasts I’ve come to realize that the main drive behind wealth is truly that of FEAR. The fear of LACKING. Once that is overcome, the drive becomes that of wanting MORE and MORE. There’s no ENOUGH thus the only lack that remains is that of COMPASSION.
