That's what I'm really optimistic about the most when it comes to Frontiers, the relatively positive reception kinda makes me perceive this as the next Sonic Unleashed in the sense that it will be the first of many Sonic games to kickstart a specific style of gameplay that will only improve and get better overtime.

yo i had a similar experience!! i’m glad that out of all the times i could have become a sonic fan, i chose this year. if you got frontiers for christmas, i hope you’re enjoying it! i got it and it’s a blast!
1-2 took me all night to complete and it was one of my favourite experiences as I always get a lot out of Sonic games which demand mastery over the terrain and mechanics and trying over and over again until you get it just right. It was super satisfying, but when the next couple of cyber space stages were so lenient it had me wishing for more of these ball-breaking difficulty spikes.
Definitely the sonic movie 2, sonic Idw, and sonic frontiers are DEFINITELY my favorite pieces of sonic media. Each thing has their own special thing but sonic frontiers is literally one of the best sonic games I’ve played honestly- I’ve never felt playing a sonic game in SOO long without NOT feeling it’s a sonic game. Seriously this game is one of the best in the franchise in my opinion.
Beat Sonic Game I've played in over a decade. I never thought I'd see a good Sonic Game again. 😭 10 hours in and I'm obsessed! P.S. your cat is adorable!
I got the game today and oh my GAWD. A little context before I start gushing, when I got into sonic 06 had already happened and I watched mostly amvs, nazo unleashed, and cobanermani456 to get my daily dose of hedgehog. I eventually got the classic mobile ports but I never really was satisfied with them. And for me till this day generations is my standard for sonic (at least in terms of gameplay since I care about that the most in a game). When I got frontiers I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time I played for hours and I was so immersed I didn’t even notice. Sonic’s control in the open zone is just perfect I’m always using the cyloop because of how satisfying it is to go in a circle, the only thing I would have changed could be some pin ball physics. And the super sonic fights. THE. SUPER. SONIC. FIGHTS. These are basically playable sakuga man. This game for me as someone who likes all parts of sonic (mostly the 2010s since that’s what I grew up with) this game is 10000/10.
Awesome review, dude!! Really glad you managed to make it in time and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have to say (especially the farther I get into the game). I'm really loving what I've played so far!
I am actually really loving this game! I’m hoping sega down the line tweak the physics engine in this game to make momentum more satisfying, as I don’t think it’s too late for that. I just really wanna be able to experience sonic with the momentum he had in adventure 2, and though it is close in frontiers, some adjustments need to be made somewhere down the line in the patch. I do eventually hope that happens, and if not in frontiers than maybe in frontiers 2!
The Japanese seem to really like this game and if this game continues to do well with them that will be a great achievement for Sonic as the games over there don’t always do great from what I heard. I for one love the freedom the game gives you, the game kept directing me to talk to Amy but I held off and wanting to take all my time appreciating everything the game has to offer such as exploring and completing fun obstacle courses, rescuing Kocos, and defeating enemies for key items and stuff. Like the game advertised, the gameplay really is flexible!
I've been playing the game all day and I can say for sure this game is amazing. It's free roaming is like Spiderman ps4 and combat is really fluid. I haven't left the first island I've been exploring and getting use to the system flow. I know for sure this game is gonna have a ton of mess around re playability for many years
@@DireNemesis yes I am you dult. I compared the free roaming the same as it. What do you do in Spiderman to unlock parts of the map. You do them Harry Osborne missions and in sonic you do missions to unlock different parts of the map. And I'm compering to to my own feelings of Spiderman. Not yours go feck off
Oh momentum is *absolutely* in the game - you just overrode that mechanic by maxing out the sliders 😅 If you want to feel the difference between running uphill vs downhill (like older games), you need the starting speed set low - that way Sonic actually has to compete with the gravity physics. I recommend settings of: Starting Speed: 10 | Initial Boost: 50 | Top Speed 100 // Sonic has *never* felt more natural, or been such a joy to control when you allow the momentum gameplay to shine, instead of overriding it with *maximum speed* all the time
I am so glad that this game is how it is. It’s just great to see them being truly ambitious again after so many years! It’s heart is clearly in the right place even if it has plenty of issues, and I can tell that for the first time in about a decade, there was a real effort to make something incredible, and based on Kishimoto’s recent tweets, that seems to be their new philosophy going forward, and I’m all here for it! It doesn’t have to be really dark or serious like 06 or Adventure 2, but to be something GREAT, not just solid, like S3K!
Honestly while I can’t get the game yet(bc I know it’ll distract me from my exams😅) it’s really heartwarming to see ppl enjoy the game for both the story and Gameplay. Sonic is back man😎🔥
This game gave me something that Mario has always had: a confidence in the series, as well as comfort in knowing that even if every game isn’t going to be “10/10 perfect everything I want from the series” that I’ll always be in for a good time, and I’ll have hours of fun. I can’t wait for whatever sonic does next, I’m all here for it.
Honestly, its nice to see someone not trash on the without even a week passing! Ive seen so many negative reviews and im glad to see my favorite Sonic content youtuber like it. Keep up the great work chaomix!
Actually no, you can momentum jump off of inclines. The terrain just needs to be smoother as for Sonic to not randomly become airborne. Simply boost up the incline, then jump when you see fit. I've used it to skip springs in the open zone and quickly climb up mountains, as well as to sequence break the randomly found platforming challanges found all around the open zone. :)
Vandalize being in the game was making me consider getting this game, I'm here made me consider it more, some boss themes made me almost decide it until I remembered the story. Now what chaomix said about the story has made me decide yes.
Sad to hear you say that 1-2 was the most difficult to S rank. I got it in 4 tries lol. That level was really fun and I was looking forward to more difficult levels
After Forces I had pretty much given up on Sonic at this point. Now I can’t wait to get started playing Frontiers! I’m so happy the blue blur is finally back.
Already started on it, beat the first 2 islands (100% on Kronos island, haven't gone back to Ares island to finish it yet though). Will agree entirely on the boss fights being a big deal though. I hope they add a function for us to replay them at some point honestly because they are awesome.
This is frickin amazing, I got the digital deluxe pre order, and am still only on Ares island, and it’s already my favorite sonic game since Generations!
The cyberspace levels are technically optional too, since you can get vault keys through the fishing spots. On the second island, I didn’t do a single cyberspace level because I got all my vault keys from a fishing spot for that island.
I loved sage's and eggman's relationship it's the second time we've seen this softer side of eggman the first being him talking about his grandfather with tails on the ark
This is more then just a good game it also sets up a foundation for more better games like this I love the direction there taking the sonic franchise with this game!
After the nightmare that was Sonic 2 (which reduced Sonic to a punching bag and gave Knuckles no comeuppance for what he did) a game where Sonic gets a chance to SHINE.....this is the breath of fresh air that I NEEDED.
My only issues with the game is the lack of varied and good cyberspace levels and especially only having 1 on 1 conversations with the sonic heroes, we could've had some great moments with sonic knucles and tails that just didn't happen. Other than that I thought the game was super fun.
Here's my strategy for the S rank on 1-2 btw: take the bottom path in the start. The dash panels are faster than the top route because of how sonic handles in the air. I personally pulse the boost, ESPECIALLY on rails where it seems to build more speed for some reason. Ignore the enemies, sonic's homing attack is slow and kills momentum. When you hit the spring, air dash to the left and SLIGHTLY forward, this will skip the jumps. Do not use any of the rest of the springs. Pulse the boost as much as you can and take the top path. Once you get to the last rail, jump to the roof of the structure and run across to the finish
I like how at the weird graphical glitches moment you show the reflection during the fishing minigame, which is based on screen space reflections. That's kinda the limit of the used technique. If something obstructs the object making the reflection, or if said object is not visible on screen, it's reflection ceases to exist as well. I looked past the weird glitchy noise happening there because it's technically a place in cyberspace, the whole shtick of it is that it's looking like this.
Both Sonic Frontiers and God of War Ragnarok are the Best Things that Ever Happen in that Even Happen this Week,I will Say More in the Spoiler Video I promise but 2022 is a Good Year for the Sonic Franchise and Frontiers is the Hame that Has a Better Future going Forward.
When I finished the knight titan, my mind went from, this is pretty good to holy shit 😦 Note- as chaomix said, play the game for yourself without spoilers because holy shit, your gonna enjoy this
I just beat the game today, and this was the game that Sonic's needed for a very, *very* long time imho. I played the entire game blind on Hard Mode, collecting all the fish, Egg Memos, Memory Tokens, and fully completing every mission in every stage. I did everything I possibly could, and ended the game with a fully upgraded Sonic, well over 300 extra skill points after getting every skill, and just over 30 hours on my file. I've never stopped being a Sonic fan, but this game gave me a reason to feel *proud* to be a fan again. It has its flaws, sure, but this game was absolutely incredible from start to finish!
It's amazing that we live in a timeline where Sonic Team made a Sonic game I like more than Generations. I finished the game 100% like 12 hours ago and it was such a fun ride beginning to end. It kinda sucks that the game doesn't tell people that hard mode has the actual final boss (which I can understand people's dissatisfaction with, but I love the game it's a reference to even if I'm bad at it). I already decided to play on hard at the start, but it was strange finding out that was a thing. I'm excited to see where the games can go from here, since this was a great testing ground for what's possible. Another Frontiers styled game, but with settings with more life (and maybe more characters) would be sick.
I would like to say about cyberspace reusing layouts, I replayed sa2, sa1, colors, and generations before frontiers. The levels do re use layouts but it's few and inbetween original platforming segments, I didn't realize that the green forest level was green forest until they had the swinging zip lines.
To those who want to play faster in the cyberspace: While you still can (as long a potential patch isn't fixing this), when you do a homing attack, cancel it instantly with a boost. You'll store the speed from the homing attack into boost so you'll be blasting. It is so goddamn fun after getting used to the normal controls.
I’m glad that I’m brand new in the Sonic fandom. This is the first Sonic game that I can play while it’s still new. I’m still trying to complete Forces tho
I agree this is a huge step in the right direction, from the Sonic Fans to the Casuals I'm glad there are those who are liking this game, I had the same mentality with Sonic Unleashed back in 2008 and with the successes of Sonic Movie 1 and Sonic Movie 2, I was more hopeful with Sonic Frontiers then I was with Sonic Unleashed, now I would love to see improvements in the follow up like having Tails and Knuckles be playable with their own moves along with Sonic, but I'm going to experience this game Myself and I can't wait to play it.
Even if I still didn't play Frontiers (maybe it will get a bit of time, because I don't have much money to play him imo), this looks pretty incredible. With the flaws the game must have, I think I'm gonna have a blast experimenting for the first time, and I'm definitely excited what the future will bring up to this blue blur and Sonic Team as a whole. Thank you for this video, chaomix. I was really waiting for you make your review too ✌
Just beat it today and let me tell you. This game almost made me cry. It was such a good game. It has blown me away and pushed past my expectations along the playthrough. Sonic holds a special place in my heart. And this game made me get the chance to fall in love with the series again.
One of my first games ever was SA1. Than it didn't go further, but I remembered a fun game. I came back to Sonic after the movies came out. And I can say that this is a perfect time to come back.
Sonic games have always appealed to a very specific audience. Sega wanted the target to be a general audience, but that's how it was. If it speaks to you, it speaks to you.
I’ve been watching your videos and I’ve really liked every single one I’ve watched! I started with the project shadow lore videos and it gave me a lot of details that I never knew that really improved how much I like SA2’s story. I just finished watching your video on how modern sonic might be too fast, and that start with the corgi is a masterpiece! I too have a corgi and it’s always so adorable when they go sonic mode 😂

It was super satisfying, but when the next couple of cyber space stages were so lenient it had me wishing for more of these ball-breaking difficulty spikes.
Cyber Stage 1-2 haunts me. That S rank really made you work for it.
Just finished Kronos Island today. Now I’m on Ares Island and just freed Knuckles. I am loving the game. So good. Challenging too.
Beat Sonic Game I've played in over a decade. I never thought I'd see a good Sonic Game again. 😭 10 hours in and I'm obsessed!
P.S. your cat is adorable!
1:19 BRUH THE CAT VIBING TO THE MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND
LMAO
This game for me as someone who likes all parts of sonic (mostly the 2010s since that’s what I grew up with) this game is 10000/10.
personally i think the reason why the titan encounters are so hype is because of the music and the fact that you need to climb up to get the emerald
With Frontier came out the way it is, can you guys imagine how Forces will look like if Ian Flyyn write the story?
I'm pretty sure the IDW comics started off somewhere around the Forces storyline, so look no further my friend!
@@jettvalen7326 so bassically IDW sonic the movie, well espect the Metall Virus levell of deprresion then
The Japanese seem to really like this game and if this game continues to do well with them that will be a great achievement for Sonic as the games over there don’t always do great from what I heard.
I know for sure this game is gonna have a ton of mess around re playability for many years
your experience is the same as mine ^^
You are actually fucking losing your mind trying to compare this to spiderman. What are you doing...💀
Not yours go feck off
@@neon-sphinxfoster5340 glad you thought the same way bro

Oh momentum is *absolutely* in the game - you just overrode that mechanic by maxing out the sliders 😅
If you want to feel the difference between running uphill vs downhill (like older games), you need the starting speed set low - that way Sonic actually has to compete with the gravity physics.
I recommend settings of: Starting Speed: 10 | Initial Boost: 50 | Top Speed 100 // Sonic has *never* felt more natural, or been such a joy to control when you allow the momentum gameplay to shine, instead of overriding it with *maximum speed* all the time
...
I kind of wish I knew that, before I beat the game settings to the max.
I'm so happy to see people loving this game. As a Sonic fan, this brings me great joy.
I love this game so much I'm so glad Sonic Team got extra time to make the game this good
Honestly, its nice to see someone not trash on the without even a week passing! Ive seen so many negative reviews and im glad to see my favorite Sonic content youtuber like it. Keep up the great work chaomix!
pre ordered mine from GameStop, so I get that steel book I'm so fucking excited for it to come in
I NEED TO PLAY IT. With this game and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, November is not just NNN, it's gaming content.
Just so you know, when I ran into The Tower, I yelled FORESKIN SHREDDER. Forever its name to me
Vandalize being in the game was making me consider getting this game, I'm here made me consider it more, some boss themes made me almost decide it until I remembered the story.
My pre-ordered of Frontiers hasn’t arrived yet but I’m soo much excited to have this game in my hands 😭
This is frickin amazing, I got the digital deluxe pre order, and am still only on Ares island, and it’s already my favorite sonic game since Generations!
7:54 i wish they had a button you could press or toggle or something to diasble the 2D camera
Great Review
I agree with everything
The cyberspace levels are technically optional too, since you can get vault keys through the fishing spots. On the second island, I didn’t do a single cyberspace level because I got all my vault keys from a fishing spot for that island.
jesus i read the title as leave sonic again and i was like, "bro what?"
I loved sage's and eggman's relationship it's the second time we've seen this softer side of eggman the first being him talking about his grandfather with tails on the ark
2022 has been one of the best years for sonic with both the movie sequel and frontiers.
I likw to think some of these cyberspace levels that re-use level layouts were made by Sage using previous data she has on Sonic.
Cool theory but that doesn’t really justify reusing the level layouts.
I don’t wanna get too ahead of myself, but with the movies and Frontiers, this just might be the start of the Sonic Renaissance era.
Are you talking about the movie?
1:20 wat da cat doin (yeah it did a lot before chaomix noticed)
When I finished the knight titan, my mind went from, this is pretty good to holy shit 😦
Note- as chaomix said, play the game for yourself without spoilers because holy shit, your gonna enjoy this
Can't wait to play this when my computer gets fix up.
2022 has been a good year for Sonic.

That portal looks EXACTLY like the second phase of chaos elfilis in Kirby and the forgotten land
Have been seeing good things about Frontiers that it straight up convinced me into getting one for Christmas.
The funniest thing is while I was watching the video an ad of Frontiers popped up in the middle of the video
Ravioli, ravioli. Don't lewd the AI L0l1 (felt the need to censor because Google)
I loved the moment with your cat, that was the best part 😂
My only disappointment is that Sonic is not able to run on water.
It is so goddamn fun after getting used to the normal controls.
knowing this game is directed by Morio Kishimoto who also directed Colors, Lost World and Forces. Pretty impressive of how much is improved.
3:50 That's just water reflecting off the cyberspace's sky.
0:33 cat
1:54 lack of cat
I’m glad that I’m brand new in the Sonic fandom. This is the first Sonic game that I can play while it’s still new. I’m still trying to complete Forces tho
Thanks for no spoilers. I don’t tolerate that. I’m saving it for Christmas, and I don’t want to know what to expect until then.
Looks like all fans are living up to this. I hope Ian keeps writing the future games for as much as he can
im sorry i cannot stop looking at your cat ,, so cute 😭
Even if I still didn't play Frontiers (maybe it will get a bit of time, because I don't have much money to play him imo), this looks pretty incredible. With the flaws the game must have, I think I'm gonna have a blast experimenting for the first time, and I'm definitely excited what the future will bring up to this blue blur and Sonic Team as a whole.
Thank you for this video, chaomix. I was really waiting for you make your review too ✌
the soundtrack fit sonic so much man, ik for a fact this lil dude would blast SWS, or PTV and any other scene group while one-upping eggman fr
This is the first 3D sonic game I've owned since unleashed, and I loved it so much.
Just beat it today and let me tell you. This game almost made me cry. It was such a good game. It has blown me away and pushed past my expectations along the playthrough. Sonic holds a special place in my heart. And this game made me get the chance to fall in love with the series again.
This is the NFS Heat of the Sonic series.
I’m glad this game finally brings back honor to Sonics name. Havnt really been impressed with sonic since the adventure era. The day has finally come
Sonic Frontiers is Good, Great, Awesome, Outstanding, but not Amazing! 👍🏿
One of my first games ever was SA1. Than it didn't go further, but I remembered a fun game. I came back to Sonic after the movies came out. And I can say that this is a perfect time to come back.
I've been waiting for this! I am so excited for this game, it sounds like everything I've been wanting!
