  • Hey Everyone! thanks for tuning back in. Today we rebuild an M20 cylinder head. It is definitely worth a try if it's your first time as the steps are fairly simple they just require patience and understanding of how the valve train works. The M20 was equipped with dual valve springs for the 325i however in ETA models you will find low revving variations that used a single spring and a slightly different cam among other differences the process is basically the same for disassembly and reassembly.

Thanks for the video. Nice job.
Another tip you could talk about is that the M30 4 rocker shaft style head does not have the rocker shaft lock and you temporarily will need locking pins. There is little to no info (just rumors) about this mysterious BMW rocker shaft locking pin. In the M30 4 rocker shaft head, the rocker shafts (and rockers) can easily shift if your head is not warped. There is a crescent moon shape carved into the rocker shaft that lines up into each of head bolt holes. These mysterious BMW rocker shaft locking pins are meant to hold the rocker shaft in place until you torque down the head bolts. I learned the hard way, and had rocker shafts and rockers shifting as I rotated the cam. Ended up making my own pins to hold it all in place.

Roy that's some awesome insight! I had a very similar experience with the m30 head on the E12 but managed to save it, we will have to try this on the next m30 build for the e28! Always great seeing your comments Roy 🤘🙏

I could've sworn the rocker shafts had retaining springs when you took it apart. Great job. Love your channel

Hey Nzwakele! Thanks for the comment. I don't believe there are springs in the m20s valve train (other than the valve spring) the m30 cylinder head is the one that has the springs. We appreciate your support 🙏
