  • Decided to rip out the cooling system in hopes of finding a problem but have come to a halt in finding anything drastic wrong, From first inspection the water pump seems ok, It felt a tad tight moving it but it does feel easier to move now - probably my imagination but who know,s. The thermostat was tested and found to start opening at 85c and did fully open around 97c.I left that to cool off and it did close so is it actually faulty at all? The cap i will get pressure tested at some point. I then came to ask myself what could be causing so much heat in the first place so i took a look at the exhaust valve and started to question the operation of the unit.Could this be the case of my problem after all-. Any advice on this would be great.

Hi Dave, i have a 954 as a daily to commute and riding i get between 87-92c. At stops i get 110c frequently and when the fan starts it sits around 95-96 and this is fine. I don't know why do think this is a problem. Cheers !

Just adjust the valve with the cables so it is in line with the line on the valve housing. And yes you can move it by hand just like you do in the vid. I dont think the HTEV valve is the problem of the hot engine. How hot does it get? Fan should go on at 102 degrees.

Thank you for getting back to me with the answer i was needing regarding that subject, I did notice the 2 markings were not inline together so made me wonder. I will remedy the function properly when i receive my replacement radiator. As far as how hot the bike gets - I notice the bike gets up to temp rather quickly. It will get to 85c and then the thermo will start to open and bring the temp down to 81c then it will keep climbing until fan comes on like you mentioned at 102c and bring it down to 98c. The thing that concerns me is how much heat the bike makes. Before the rebuild i noticed while out riding the bike would balance out at 78c and pretty much stay there until i came to a stop light or filtering which seemed normal. Now i find myself hitting 83c on a ride out and if i go faster the temp will rise to 85c until i let off the throttle and it comes back down to 82c. As paranoid as i am and having had to spend a good amount of time rebuilding the bike you can see why i was worried. At first i figured it was trapped air so attempted to bleed and burp the system with the cap off and did lose a few bubbles but the bike still felt hot so i decided to pull the cooling system and inspect everything.

I saw that your thermostat is working fine and cooling pump works also. So just inspect the radiator and clean it. If its clean and open just install it and enjoy the 954. :-D

That's your servo motor ur messing with that doesn't really have to do with anything cooling system related. Just buy a servo buddy and remove the whole servo motor (cuts weight) and while ur at it u can also remove your pair valve system and put block off plates in it
