      @rogeremberson6464 - me too - 71 and still learning. I would have resolved that one by putting up three cut sheets across the cabin rather than two along the length - if I was doing it by myself. Agree that Greg deserved a thumbs up for leaving that clip in!

    "T" boards help with ceiling drywall. 2x4 upright and a shorter 2x4 on top like a T. wedge in the prop.

    • @paulgage7495
      @paulgage7495 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Exactly what I would have recommended. A drywall lift is a bit pricey for small projects.

      I have figured it would have been an idea to do the ceilings first, before the walls.

    • @alvalonline
      @alvalonline หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I use em to gradually raise one side while the other side is held up by some screwed in 2x4 bracing blocks on the wall. And yes, ceiling always goes up first so you've got that full wall holding up the edges.

    Omg Gregg I laughed so hard when you pushed the piece of drywall and it broke a bit and you turned to the camera and smiled. I was just saying to my husband, "that piece of drywall is too big, wonder if he will force it like you do?!" Lol. I have seen my husband do this multiple times, he has no patience for drywall.
    Kudos to you for the perseverance on your own wirh the ceiling. My husband and I have struggled togther as much as you did alone, when we did a ceiling. We love your videos! Cant wait to see the next video

    I remember putting drywall on the ceiling when I finished our basement. After several attempts and a few pieces of broken sheet rock I went to Home Depot and rented a lift. Best decision I ever made!

    Really enjoyed Katie's hiking tour. Would like to see the town that you folks go to. Greg, obviously the ceiling was going to be the hardest. I would have waited for your friend or Katie before even attempting that. But I give you a lot of credit for even getting part of the ceiling done.

    Excuse me for laughing but we have all been there. Kudos to you for having the guts to leave it in the video. Two things you could have done. make a T brace to hold up one end while you attach the other end. The other trick is to attach a furring strip to the side wall about an inch down from the ceiling. that will hold one side while you attach the other side. Love you guys.

    Well Greg, you did get half of the ceiling drywalled. With temp's over 100 degrees F it takes so much energy to do any physical labor. You can get dehydrated quickly too. The cabin Katie stayed in looked like a nice cool place especially with the river full of rapids, I would have been in the water. The heat needs to go south, even where I live it's been a hot summer. Peace love happiness 💖

    Good job Greg. When you hang the last piece on the ceiling, knock together a couple of t'ee's from spare 2by and just lean or wedge it against the wall. It will act as a track to hold the drywall at the edge. If Katie is there with you, it would free both of you to screw in the sheet.

    Keep your spirits up. Been there done that. I learned from a drywaller decades ago when you are tacking a board on the ceiling especially by yourself, do not drive the first several screws all the way. Do not dimple the outer paper. Also use 1 5/8” screws for ceilings. You had the right idea with the blocks. You put them on the wrong edge. Let gravity help you. I admire your tenacity. Keep smiling. A fan from Virginia.

    So you are hiking through the mountains (Glacier National Park?) and you get up, high in the mountains, and you have a beautiful vista - almost unending, yes, but it is just of the gorgeous mountain scenery which are located in Canada. And when you tell others of your hike, they will tell you of hikes they have been on - one for your bucket list!But we have to accept that there are human limits to what all we can see of this marvelous creation - limits - time, energy, financial, the weather, etc. Just enjoy what you are able to see!! You see, we lived in Southern Alberta. Just a good hour away from Waterton National Park and across the border with USA is another beautiful Park, together they are known as the International Peace Park. If you would be in the neighbourhood, drop in and spend a couple of days there, or a couple of weeks. It would be well worth your time!

  • @MrWaldorfian

    I secret to installing drywall on the ceiling by yourself is to create a helper out of a 2x4 and make a T shape at the top. Angle the top of the T near the ceiling and wedge the end of the drywall panel on top of it. Then you can lift the other end of the panel up and start screwing it on. With those longer panels, maybe try a couple helper 2x4 T's so once you get it up on the ceiling, wedge the 2nd T helper to hold the drywall up while you commence the screwing.

    I have hung quite a lot of sheetrock by myself, and it is not easy. But necessity is the mother of invention. I found that is you set some 1x4 pieces about1/4'' lower on the wall than the sheet you are about to hang, you can land the wall edge on those pieces, and they become your extra hands. I also will use a 1x4 3-4ft long attached to a 1x4 just longer than your ceiling height to form a tee that you can pry into place to hold the sheet for nailing or screwing. Of course, that method is best if you have someone to set them as i lift. But Greg, you just showed me a new wrinkle with those ceiling grips. Not trying to be a know it all, just adding my experiences. Food for thought. I love everything y'all do. keep it going, brother!!!

    great job on the drywalling. Usually the ceiling is done first and then the wall pieces help hold up the ceiling pieces around the perimeter.

    23:13 Generally, we start with the ceiling. This has the advantage of obtaining a perfect junction with the walls. Otherwise, you leave room for a thickness of the plank to slide the one from the ceiling into it in order to have support and support when you lift the one from the ceiling without a plate lifter
    😅
    You can also use planks leaning against a wall to rest the one on your ceiling

    I gave you a like for the effort Greg. Look into a mini split heat pump. More efficient than AC when you're off grid and it provides heat in the shoulder seasons when you have enough sun.

    Thanks, Greg, we've all had those super exasperating work experiences and I'm very sure you will prevail. Love your videos you take us through the good and the bad.
