Angle grinder is the tool that scares me the most. I avoid using it as much as I can. Never use one without a guard. Always have the side handle connected and always use it with one hand on the grinder body, the other hand on the side handle. Both these things were missing from your grinder, and you were working in a confined space, cutting metal. Stay safe. Hope you recover soon.

My Father did something even more stupid. When He got out of the Army after WWII we didn't have much money. He was a mechanic and was building his own shop with hand tools and he decided to make it easier, so he put a circular saw blade on a body and fender samder. The saw blade hit a knot and jumped up and cut his fore arm almost from his wrist to his elbow on the inside of his arm. The saw also cut a deep gash across his sholder next to his jugular vein. He recovered but he had deep scars for the rest of his life and was much the wiser!

Tip 1: invest in more than just a first aid kit. Boy Scout motto is "Be Prepared". My first aid closet is 4' x 4' x 8' and has just about everything you can get. It probably has things that your little hospital doesn't even have. It also has a "Go Bag" in it for quick help outside my home to assist neighbors. I was trained in Jr. High & High School in first aid, advanced first aid, lifeguard, hunter safety and snowmobile safety. For 20 years as a superintendent, I held weekly safety meetings to all my employees.
Accidents will always happen, no matter how safety conscious you are, that's why they are called accidents. I am so glad you are OK.
Tip 2: to bend rod like you did, drill the hole in the stump at a 15 degree angle, then hammer in a 6" to 8" pipe. Now when you bend re-bar the pipe will keep the stump from absorbing some of the pressure, the pipe will make a sharper corner & the angle will allow you to even go past 90 degrees.

I am very happy you are okay and nothing important was damaged. When I was doing more physical work on my house I noticed that when I was overtired I would start dropping things, like hammers. That led me to making a rule: if I dropped something (because I was tired) I had to immediately stop work for the day. That rule really worked. I would not do one more thing either. Hurrying is a sign too. Please take care of yourself, you have all the power.

I had an accident with a skill saw. I was holding the blade shield open and trimming a board. I'm not sure what the blade hit but the saw jumped back and "Luckily" I was wearing a cloth nail belt which stopped the blade from turning. I got 27 stitches in my groin. The lesson I learned was don't stand directly behind the saw and the blade guard is there for a reason. Greg, I'm glad you are OK...

March 2011, my husband slid off our new metal roof (that he was not supposed to be on anyway)... So believe me, I understand! This is more than a good lesson. We usually learn from our mistakes!! Bless you both!!! I forgot "the best part" (sarcasm right here). When I came up from the basement and ran to my husband lying on the ground with his right leg dangling in an awkward position..... The first thing he said to me was "please don't be mad at me"!!! ...... 4 days after traction and surgery; 18 months of rehab and more surgery 9 months later... He is doing okay! He was 73 at the time and now he is 87!!! So he has more than 9 lives!!!😇😇😇

My dad sliced his abdomen wide open with a 7" grinder back in the late 60's. His guts were protruding but as a tough old bird, he grabbed his abdomen, sat in the kitchen chair, poured some whiskey over the open wound and then sewed himself back together. He never sought medical attention and it never got infected. Having survived many wounds during WWII I guess that's just what you did! Glad you're safe now!

So glad you are all right.. I have lived off grid... One thing my wife made me do is make me go with her and we took first aid and cpr classes.. She rhen made sure we had a emergency medical bag with all kinds of stuff including 4 tourniquet's, 10 rolls of gauze, tape, assortment of 9x9 8x8, 6x6, 4x4, bandages, assortment of regular band-aids, and liquid bandage, scissors, and ace wraps... I thought she had gone overboard with all that until I had a power saw kick back on me cutting a 4x4 post and cut my finger off.. That day really sucked.. It wasn't cheap, but I thanked the Good Lord for my wife's nagging and bought it... Stay safe my friend, I also didn't listen to that inner voice and I also knew better.. You and I now belong to a private club... Love you guys...

interesting, I buy 6" cutoff discs by the thousands. I use angle grinders every day for the past 12 years and I've never in my life had a disc explode or even got a single cut. Most of these cases are when people put the grinder down a little hard (doesn't take much) on the cutoff disc and it fractures about a 1/4 of the disc. Its kind of hard to tell, but you can feel something off when you feel the blade. Over the years, I've become one with the angle grinder. I can cut things square with my eye's closed and I can even tell what type of metal and thickness I'm cutting just by feel alone. I might as well tape the grinder to my hand haha. have a great day! and awesome videos!

May I suggest a construction technique whenever you use your backhoe? If you could hook a small cart or trailer to your four wheeler and put your spoil from each dig in it rather than near your work where it will inevitably be in the way at least three times, it might save you some work. Yes, you may have to bring some soil back as filler, but some of it will remain on your cart so it will be easy to transport. Oh, if you have to bring a lot of it, a quick scoop with your front end loader can easily fill the cart. Just a thought.

So thankful you’re ok! I’m sure a lesson learned. I’m not going to “rag” on you - just a short story. My daddy was a farmer, had livestock, welder, etc for over 70 years. When he recounting the time he worked, and my 3 brothers, he was so thankful that there was never a serious accident. People don’t understand or realize what a hard life that is. You are constantly doing physical work it’s your hands and body. NOW: please don’t rush getting back to your norm ❤️

Yes, working with big machinery, big animals, PTO's etc is... risky! I'm thankful that my carpentry training made it second-nature to always assess the safety of whatever risky stuff I'm about to do. Repetition brings a false sense of security, I need that knee-jerk 'have I got the guard on' etc training to counteract it.

Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for sharing your story as a person who is just starting my home build. mostly by myself gives me a heads up and things that I need to look for. I have some Safety already implemented, but it’s just a good reminder for me That I need to have a good plan in place. again thank you for sharing your story

Stuff like that wakes us up to how fragile we are and heightens our awareness of how quickly things can change our lives. I celebrate with you that you are alive with some scars as a reminder. I have experienced close-to-death experiences, as you have, especially riding, which you do as well. I'm not sure we ever live in a bubble, but the choices we make do have consequences. I really enjoy your channel. You both are good people!

Seriously, I'm glad you're ok. Ya'll do what 80% of ppl do, bar none. Don't worry about the water in the pads, the concrete will push it up and out as it's poured. And the rebar uprights should be tied under the pad steel, for better uplift protection, not on the top. Glad you're doing ok Greg. Love ya'll ❤️

We all take leave of our senses occasionally and hope it does not kill us. My lazy/complacent/stupid moment was last year when I used an old chainsaw (without safetys) on a ladder to cut down a dead widomaker (not one but three no-nos). In an instant I was on the ground with the saw 30 feet away, and a gash from the saw from the base of my index finger to the side of my wrist. Cut a few strands of tendon for my thumb... It only takes a moment of time to lose your life. I'm still here and relive that moment regularly.

Saw that grinder and thought that wasn’t good. You were able to describe the event without photos. Very thankful of the outcome. Had wondered how you could get out of those holes without caving them in . Thank goodness you had sound mind to unplug that grinder. Big hugs to both of you handling that emergency. FYI. Keep in mind when using grinding wheels, the RPMS on the grinding wheel cannot be less the the RPMS of the Grinder. If it is the wheel will definitely explode. I am not say this was the case in your accident but just something to keep in mind. The same rule applies to any combination of wheels and grinders. Not all wheels have the same RPMS and not all Grinders have the same RPMS. Glad you are still around and look forward to your next videos.

Greg, lesson learnt. Nuff said. Glad you’re still all working.
A friend some years ago using a handheld electric circular saw , cut a piece of timber and put the saw down before it had stopped. The guard jammed, the saw bounced and severed his femoral artery . He didn’t go home that night. It only takes a moment.
Foot note. In our house for many decades it has always been,(not a good job unless you bleed a bit). And I have bled from time to time. Possible not as bad as yourself. But one shattered ankle, 2 fractured arms a number of ribs etc.
