Great stuff as usual Seán. A lot of us felt ripped off by FTD when we found out after buying the FTD that 'Aloha' was going to be released by the mainstream label. Having said that I'd love to see FTD release an 'Aloha' book.
although he never really sung a new song that concert, but I've always loved his gentler more ballad voice and the reverb sound of the concert. RIP king
Great video mate , it was a great start to a year for Elvis that many would have to say ended badly with Divorce. I still feel that he had a great year and did some fantastic shows . I wish they would do a box set like Aloha on his other live shows thou
Nice gear and presentation, as ever, Sean. I would say the blue obi Japanese Aloha is less common than the first pressing. I was lucky enough to see the show on a cinema screen at a Japanese fan event in January. Cheers, Sean.
Very good video. I also have the 2-disc dvd of Aloha From Hawaii. This was Elvis’ crowning achievement IMO and was at the pinnacle of his superstardom at this time. I also have the That’s The Way It Is special edition dvd, but not the ‘68 Comeback Special, though I have seen the show many times and enjoy it as I am a massive Elvis fan myself. For anyone else interested, Netflix has added a new documentary called The Fall and Rise of Elvis Presley which I highly recommend you watch if you’re a fan
If you can pick up the 68 Special DVD set, I'd highly recommend it. I've personally passed on the Netflix documentary, I'm sure it's fine, but to me, even the trailer felt like Groundhog Day. I'm so bored with hearing his ex-wife churn out her carefully constructed version of events time and time again. Just my opinion 😊
The resaon why the picture is only average [at best] is that they worked from a copy transferred back in the 90's. Anyone else, and the mastertapes would have been sourced for optimum picture quality. Same old, same old with Elvis releases. Thanks for the consistently good uploads.
Hello, You didn't mention that the earlier releases had that horrid muddy sound from the 70s. We had to wait decades for the modern remixes that make it even more amazing. Great video. Kepp up the good work.
Cool video of Hawaii. I have them all including the Sony Legacy Edition digipack 2 CD. These are great too but personally I love the 50th anniversary boxset from Legacy better in sound.
@sincerelyelvispresley no problem. Actually I personally like the Sony Legacy Edition boxset's just as good as the more expensive FTD ones. Sony almost always has a bigger booklet in them and just the same mixes. Seems that Sony has begun an competition with FTD.
@@sincerelyelvispresley From what I've read and seen online as I understand it Neilsen was an organisation based in America that checked the viewing figures independently and had nothing to do with Colonel Parker they estimated the viewing figures and came up with one and a half billion watching the Aloha broadcast.
@@sincerelyelvispresley Hi Sean, From what I have read and heard about the ratings for the Elvis Aloha concert the ratings were independently done by an American company called Neilsen they confirmed that the concert was seen by one and a half billion people worldwide. The Colonel had nothing to do with it.
@dinshawpocha4882 Hi there, that's very interesting to know, thank you. I assume that has to be the cumulative audience after it had been seen by other countries that didn't get it live on the night, such as the US. It can't have been those that saw the broadcast live, as that number is higher than the combined total population of all those countries
I admit I was totally confused by the FTD and Legacy releases. I wasn’t going to buy either, but John Heath stated the new Legacy was the best he’d ever heard the show. John also said it was superior to the FTD, so I was surprised to hear you say it appears to be the same mix. Perhaps the mastering is superior to the FTD. Must say, for anyone building a collection, that the 2CD Legacy from 12-15 years ago is great - you can probably pick it up secondhand for less than £7. Same with TTWII for me. I’ve got the Deluxe, but that 3CD set from 20 years ago is my favourite. You can get that now for around £10 - less than half the price it was when released. Regards, Gary
Cheers Gary, I've actually been corrected on what I said about the 2 sets. The Legacy version has a new mix of the rehearsal show. I should do more research before I sit in front of the camera! I foolishly like to think it adds an air of spontaneity, though 🤣 I know exactly what you mean about the 3CD Special Edition of TTWII. I managed to pick up the vinyl version recently, which is really nice
@sincerelyelvispresley Sean you are the first to know that I will start work on a volume 3 next year. Del at Laceys Vinyl has pledged to help with some of the photography so I have agreed to do it. Don't hold your breath though as it'll take me through to 2027 to get it done, at least I'll then include anything released for the 50th Anniversary. I just hope we're all still around to see it!
@ttwii wow, that's great Paul, thanks so much for confirming. I don't care how long it takes, I know it will be well worth the wait. I've done a fair amount of proof reading in my time, so if you ever need a hand with that, I'd be more than happy to help
Great video Sean. Thank you.
@SamanthaJohnson-e7z thanks for watching Samantha, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Get us some elvis 77 stuff 👍
I recorded 77 this weekend. That will go live on Wednesday, December 11th
I have the special edition two DVD boxset of Aloha from Hawaii very good boxset I agree
It's still pretty much all you need really, isn't it?
Elvis wore different suits in the rehearsal on the 12th Jan and the actual broadcast show on the 14th.
Yes spot on. It turns out the one at the exhibition in London was actually the rehearsal one
great video Sean my friend keep up cool work
Thank you Nigel!
you welcome brother

Thanks Brn, an FTD Aloha book set would be awesome, surprised they haven't done one yet

Cheers David, must have been great to see it on a big screen 👍🏻

The Return Of The King!!! Very Great Documentary!!! 😊

Aloha Sean, great review on this historic concert with the most iconic jumpsuit he ever wore
Thank you, yes definitely instantly recognisable 👍🏻

i have the red vinyl. but my favourite is the legacy 4 album set.
The 4 album set does look really nice, tends to fetch pretty high prices these days
It is a myth that a “Billion” people watched the Aloha broadcast. Total hype from the good ole Colonel!!! 😊
You'd expect no less from The Snowman though 😊

The Legacy version of Aloha IS better than the FTD, hands down!!! 😊
Just to clarify, I don’t mean the 2 cd 2013 Legacy set, I mean the 3 cd box that came out last year. 😊

The legacy edition features a new mix by Matt Ross Spang of the Rehersal show not on the FTD release
Ah, yes thanks Paul, that'll teach me not to look it up beforehand 😊 BTW, your books are fantastic!
@sincerelyelvispresley Thank you
@ttwii Any chance of a volume 3?
