It's always great when you find a new favorite channel. Yeah, I know the feeling of carrying 3 cameras.....but have stopped that silliness. Now I just carry too many lenses......
Just discovered your channel today and have been binging it! You're the perfect combination of some my favourite passions: nature, video and photography. I really fell out of love with digital photography and looking to dip my toe into medium format film soon and it's so helpful to see a skilled photographer use the cameras I'm thinking about buying.
🥹 wow, thank you so much. That is some of the best feedback I can ask for. Hopefully you'll find that rhythm again soon and fall back in love with photography, it adds so much joy to life.
Do you know what I love the most about your channel? The fact that I know that the video it's going to be so damn good and relatable before I even manage to open it. You're doing an awesome job and you such an inspiration for me and for many others watching your videos! I completely felt that quote about 'getting older' hahah. The older I get the more I feel like simplifying my life and the things around me, including cameras. I realized that the less I think about gear, the more I enjoy the process of taking photos and the more I enjoy it, the happier I am, YAY! For me the x100v was just that perfect camera for that and it really helped me getting better. It's great to jut not think about lenses, filters and gear in general 😁
Thank you very much, Dan! Really means a lot to hear those kind words. Very encouraging! Glad you found it relatable and I totally agree with you about the less is more mentality. Very freeing - once you experience it, it’s hard to go back.
Yours stills and video further cementing your channel as one of my firm favourites, and really looking forward to part three of this series. Beautiful landscapes out there - take advantage of it while you can (hiking up mountains is a young persons game 😂) I can say, I've been ridding myself of all the unnecessary "stuff" in my possession over the last year - it's hard to begin with, but eventually you get really good at knowing what you need, and what you don't. It's an amazing feeling to be free of clutter and nonsense that's just taking up space, physically and mentally.
It almost seems like a learned skill, one that takes practice to get comfortable with - parting with things. I’m determined to keep getting out as many years as I can, haha! Really appreciate your ongoing support and kind words, they definitely do not go unfelt. Have a great weekend, Phil.
I found out about your channel Monday and you have become my favorite photo/video channel. Your aesthetic is unmatched and the content is always just extremely high quality and astonishing. Shame that you don’t have 100 videos up… I would have watched them all by now.
Wow that is so amazing to hear! Thank you for the kind words, I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos. More on the way - dedicating a lot more time and energy these days into TH-cam, hopefully one day it will pay off. 🫶
A relatable dilemma for sure, as I typically have a 6x7, 6x9, 35mm SLR or P&S, & digital mirrorless on any given trip. (And maybe an insta360 and drone ‘just in case’) Also, funny you talk about getting skunked by the weather right after I thought to myself, “wow, they got so lucky to get that moody atmospheric fog” lol. Previsualization expectation can be such a subjective thing! Beautiful vid & results!
Wow, yeah that is a ton! Your poor back...lol. Yeahhhh, driving for 9 hours to see a mountain and then not seeing it was a bit sad, but we still had a lot of fun in those crazy foggy conditions. Just gives us a reason to go back sometime, I guess!
@@DylanSpitz I probably wouldn’t have all these for a big hike, but still. My grandkids will someday see me wincing when the barometric pressure changes and say “his old indecision injury must be acting up again.”
Brooooooo! The fog added so much to these photos! Love how they soften areas to allow the sharper sections to shine. Also I’m on team one camera per shoot (notice I didn’t say one lens 😜). Another great video!!
Even if it felt like you got skunked by the weather, the day looked magical from a grey Ohio at the moment lol. Also know exactly what you mean about simplifying. It is something that is a big focus for me in the next year!
Love your videos! So calming! And I agree, always trying to decide on one camera + lens to avoid switching back and forth all the time and pissing myself off that I might have used the wrong camera/format for the scene ;-)
Amazing video, loved everything you'd captured on this outing! Being someone who has brought too much gear on too many trips in my life, I feel the same way as you with wanting to limit myself a bit more. Spend less time switching lenses and cameras and more time taking photos and being present.
Beautiful video as always! Would you consider doing a video about your editing set up? Like what computer/software/monitor you use and so on. When it comes to simplicity, i'd love to see what equipment you have that brings you the most value. I find it is easy to end up with too much tech equipment with the intention of producing better content only to eventually feel overwhelmed with it all.
Been thinking the same thing lately, having one camera and one lens feels so free. Also those eos film cameras are so cheap and underrated, can’t believe more people don’t use them!
You’re so right. It’s the best feeling. Also - they are sleepers, for sure! We’ve each had one for like 6 years. So small and handy. The fact that you can mount any ef lenses is NUTS. Keep them a secret so the prices stay low 😂
Hey! Your photography and movies are amazing! I like it. Now I have a choice between the XT5+23mm 1.4 lr wr and the X100VI. What do you think the choice should be? I would like to buy a universal camera for photos and videos. Maybe I'll buy a separate camera for video. Which would you choose?
@@DylanSpitz I don't plan to use additional lenses, but I want to make a short video. I don’t really understand yet what the difference will be in the video quality of xt5 and x100vi. In any case, thanks for answering such a banal question. ))
Hey Dylan, can you get the AF on the Canon 40mm to work on the Canon Rebel 2000? I have the same combination, and the lens works fine on other cameras, and other lenses work fine on the camera...they just don't play well together.
Oh that’s weird! Yeah, ours works perfectly. I actually even pair that little 40 with my canon rebel g a lot and it works on that body with no issues as well.
Love the consistency of both all of your photos and videos. Also, I wish I had access to an area like this rather than freaking East Germany like in my last video. BTW had anyone ever told you you look a bit like young Tobey Maguire?
haha, I don't think anyone has said told me that before! Glad you're a fan of the video and photos, I appreciate you taking the time to watch. I know, I wish I lived closer to areas like this as well - about 9 hours away from home! Makes for a great road trip, though.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one that carries too much gear 🤣. Lately, I've been bringing 2 bodies / 2 lenses MAX - one for video, one for stills. Most of the time it's an A7RV and FX30 with, gasp, APS-C lenses (smaller, lighter)
I did enjoy it during my breaky time 🥪🍵! I reckon if you are to travel more lightly you'd have more space for more variety of food so to not overdose on beef jerky, huh? ;) Kidding, not assuming. Thanks again for such a beauty food for my eyes.
Technically speaking, probably not. Experience wise? Different answer: I’ll always prefer the process of shooting, developing and scanning film…it brings me a lot of joy and is very rewarding - so in that sense, yes.
@@DylanSpitz really getting behind you on the less is best moto too. I find myself sticking to 1-2 lenses and other than video, using just the one camera. Makes decisions so much easier and finding comps less chaotic. Stoked for the next one dude!
Man, it’s really been becoming more obvious for me as time goes on. Even my tastes have been swayed to not even really be drawn to anything I’ve shot wider than 24 or tighter than like 50ish. Kinda weird - but a good thing I suppose. Less to worry about covering, haha! Appreciate your support as always man, next one should be a good one!
You can send your camera to me to simplify it 😉 Send me a hard drive if you have too much of it because I really need one right now, if you need me to design a logo for you, will helpful too because I want to raise some money to get a hard drive
i dont know if you will read this, but im not writing this to offend you or anything, you probably wonder why your youtube channel is not growing. maybe teach us more about how you edit photos and about photography, it looks like you know what you doing, but holding back to teach us more because you only have 9k subs and you dont want people to copy your look. just my guess, i just trying to help
Maybe he doesn’t want to be that kind of TH-camr 🤷🏽♂️ We’ve forgotten that TH-cam was just a platform to express ourselves, now most people’s idea is just making money and get loads of subscriber. Which is by no means bad at all but just for everyone
Hey there, thanks for the comment. To be honest, I'm just making videos that are something I would enjoy watching. Nothing is off limits I suppose for what I would cover/talk about in the future, but it's not a focus of mine right now to teach people how to edit their photos. If TH-cam success comes from doing what I love, then great - but my career isn't reliant on these numbers at all, it's just a fun way to document my life and share some insight with others. Hope that makes sense!
