Just finished the first video, now watching this one. Surprisingly you are only the 2nd reviewer I've seen for the MkVI (the 1st being pre-launch). Beautiful pictures, shots like these are what inspire me to get into photography.
Dylan I really do consider your videos therapy now. Always look forward to discovering a new release from you. The photos, the film, the colours and the music just combine into 20 minutes or so of quality downtime for me. People should watch your channel even if they’re not into photography or videography. Top work!👏
I honestly don't even know what to say! That type of feedback totally makes all of the effort worth it. Completely made my day, thank you so much for being here. 🫶
The video is very inspiring to give up everything and go to the mountains! The photos are beautiful! Please tell me, how good is the focus on the eyes of animals in this camera? You have a wonderful dog, btw))
Ah, thank you so much for that. It does a pretty good job in general but not always perfect for subjects that move around a lot, especially in low light. My sony cameras are FAR superior with animal eye tracking.
Dylan PLEASE make a davinci tutorial on how you colour grade the footage, it's absolutely amazing. I've had the camera for a couple months now but am having a hard time figuring out what colour spaces to use and what to convert it to. Additionally how to use the flog2 to eterna LUT correctly, or if I even need to use it.
Hey! I'm working on something bigger than a YT video as far as color grading and video production is concerned, but it will take a bit of time to get it ready. In the meantime, I can try to answer the questions you had: I just import the footage, leave it in FLog2 but work in a rec709 color space in the project timeline in Davinci. This is my approach with all camera systems unless I'm trying to match cameras from a multicam shoot, in which I'll use a CST on all of them to get them into the same(ish) starting point. No eternal LUT, just grading with primaries, curves, etc.
@@DylanSpitzThanks man, great to hear that you’re working on it! Although I tried setting the timeline colour space to rec.709-A in my project settings, but the video still has that washed out log look. How do you get it to a decent looking starting point? Thanks again!
the snowboarding story, sooo relatable, you probably just like me had heavy camera gear in your backpack, i was fighting for my life when other people were enjoying their day lol
Hey man…love this video. I would honestly pay just to see video of you hiking through the woods 😂. Color grading is absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to see the other videos.
Just simply amazing. I can’t wait to buy your presets as soon as I fix my problems with Adobe haha. I definitely would love a video on how you edit though!
Really appreciate that. Good ol' Carl is becoming the channel mascot and that makes me pretty happy actually, haha! You can do something special I'm sure of it, we all have something unique to offer.
I second you so hard on the skiing and snowboarding! I will stick to admiring the snowy slops and capturing photos of them, than riding them haha. Great video! You hype me up in wanting to use my x100vi more and more!
Honestly, it's encouraging to hear that! Definitely felt like a total failure out on the slopes...oh well 😅. Appreciate you watching buddy! We gotta link up soon. I think we might try to hit Cali again soon. I'll definitely keep you posted.
Dylan this video just stopped me dead in my tracks now im binging all of it. Quick Question are you just using the internal nd for video in these shots or do you have a secondary filter? Rock on!!
OMG that is the same reason why I want to invest in a shorter strap. Deff not about that belly bounce lol. Good to know that I'm not the only one. Great Video Dylan! A M A Z I N G as always
Hey Dylan, do you have a top accessory video for the Fuji x100vi? Do you use any filters when taking your photos ? Can’t remember if you answered this on another video Cheers
I do not have a video like that, however, there is a full gear list on my website if you are interested in taking a gander! On occasion I'll use a diffusion filter (linked in description)
@@DylanSpitz heyyyyy question with all this bad rep on adobe do you have any thoughts on creating custom styles for capture one pro? or any other software?
From what I've read, a lot of that drama has been clarified/refined since the online outrage and isn't really an issue at this point. I personally have no plans of using C1 anytime soon, so unless that changes I probably won't be doing that.
I purchased your presets last week, and adding them to some previous shots I have and love the style. I just moved over to the VI from my F, and so new to shooting RAW on this camera. Do you adjust anything in terms of the settings (sharpness, grain, DR, WB etc?) or do you keep everything neutral then edit in post? I mostly shoot ISO 400, and have recipes I use but I want to move into shooting RAW a bit more going forward. Thanks and love the vids!
Oh that’s great to hear! Thanks for the support 🤘. I don’t worry about any of that when shooting raw because it doesn’t save to the file anyways. I usually just leave the WB at 5600K in camera and keep it as simple as possible.
@@DylanSpitz amazing! Okay so very rookie question, when your shooting in the RAW + JPEG setting anything you do in terms of the simulations won’t be applied to the RAW file?
Love the video! Can I ask you what you did to stabilize your video footage? I filmed my holiday with the X100VI but got unmotivated to edit it when I found out it all my footage was pretty shaky. Did you do all the stabilizing in post? or did you have a stabilizer on you? (or do you just have really steady hands haha) . Thanks!
Hey there! Thanks for watching, really happy to hear you loved it. I don't use a stabilizer, but you do have to be really careful and steady because of how light the camera is. Try tucking your elbows against your ribs and such when you can and definitely walk slowly and like a ninja if you attempt to film while moving, haha! You can try to use some stabilization in post, but the side effects are often worse than a little natural shake in my opinion, so just watch for that and use sparingly. Hope that helps!
Hahaha I appreciate the loyalty, I know I'm not as consistent as other folks. If one day TH-cam can replace the commercial work income, maybe that'll change. I'm trying 😅
Coming here after your Instagram post! I was always sooo eager to get the X100V, but never did for various reasons. But with the X100VI, I feel like I really want to pull the trigger. Just out of curiosity, is all video footage also captured on the X100VI? It’s so nice!
Yeah I still bring it because I take video pretty seriously and have to film BTS style stuff with me in the frame. But if you’re just looking for an everyday camera that can get some great video clips here and there, the VI is a wonderful tool.
Not usually, I actually like the effect of the pro mist when it’s rainy, I think it adds to the atmosphere and it’s becoming the only time I really use it. My ideology at this point is that if I’m worried about the weather sealing I might as well add to the drama of the scene a bit.

Yeah it's pretty quick! The settings can be saved separately for photo and video so you don't have to dial it in every time. All you have to do is change the drive mode with the same button that you'd use to go into burst shooting mode, self timer, etc. - takes like 2 or 3 seconds total.
For me, it’s been only positives. Everything has slightly improved in each generation. I had the F, V and now the VI. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. But it’s the most fun I have shooting digital and the results are hard to argue with to my eyes.
I would guess that’s from starting the camera up with the lens cap still on - the lens tries to move for focus and can’t because of the cap holding it. Then you have to take the cap off and turn the camera off and back on again. Hopefully that helps!
Ah thanks so much for that. I don't think I'll ever be a master, but it's something I'm pretty passionate about studying and improving on for....well...probably forever.

That harness looks intense! Probably awesome for wildlife or sports photography. For me just hiking and walking around small towns with the little Fuji it would be overkill and I would look absolutely ridiculous 😂
