I like how lock picking works in Fallout and Skyrim too, if there's a simple realistic videogame interpretation of what you expect to do, use it, no tedious mini games just to make it arbitrarily harder when god forbid hacking gets involved, hacking's alright in Fallouth though. Fuck Bioshock and Oblivion.

I agree. Skyrim lockpicking was just trial and error, and I think it actually has less in common with real lock picking. I liked seeing that I was locking individual pins into place, especially because I have had a lock eat a pick because I messed up and the pins locked down on it. Lockpicking is a knowledge based skill, and Morrowind represented that accurately, too. Admittedly it was frustrating in the beginning, but that’s what it’s like for beginners in real life.

  • @georgeoldsterd8994

Actually Daggerfall (and Arena) does have a lockpicking mechanic. Switch to "steal" interaction and click on a locked door (or container). No lockpics needed. The downside is that if you fail once or a couple of times, the game will tell you you can't pick the lock anymore, meaning that your options are either bashing or magic. Nonetheless, it was far superior to the later games, where they removed bashing.
