I was depressed when I first loaded Oblivion in my X-box 360 so many years ago. It was my first TER experience, and I was lucky to have found it when I did. I spent so many Summer nights in Cyrodiil as an escape to my pain. Hearing the music and ambiance now brings back that comforting feeling. This is beautiful.
this game was magic. it did illicit some sort of deep, emotional, subconscious connection to those who played it through and through. a real masterpiece balance of music, environment, sounds, and details. ES has always been an amazing RPG series, but the oblivion team really took IV and shot it to the stars and beyond with incredible replay value. I try to understand like this: some things in life happen at a precise time, an interval in existence where if it happened just a moment later or earlier, it wouldn’t have had the same success.

This OST + world design is an all-time great in my opinion. As soon as this video started I felt the emotions and got goosebumps-- it's sad that many laymen would write this off as "just a video game", when the soundtrack is truly a masterpiece in its own category. I'd gladly go and listen to a live performance of these scores from start to finish. Whenever I come back to this game, I expect my rose-colored glasses to be cracked. But Oblivion really did have an atmosphere and level of depth that Skyrim (and, in some ways, even Morrowind) lacked.
By far my favorite of the Elder Scrolls series. So many memories playing Oblivion. I remember I was working night shifts when this came out. I would get off at 6am and play for hours when I got home. I think I averaged 2 to 3 hours of sleep the first several weeks of oblivions release lol.
Official *'My very first hour after leaving the sewers'* thread: It was sunrise outside. After messing with the settings for 15 minutes trying to claw back some framerate while standing on the jetty, the first thing I did was cross the river, poke around the ruins there, kill a mudcrab, run away from a bandit, and then I walked directly North up into the hills as night fell. My route went up a gully and past a cave with a door that some guy told me had a witch in it, and up towards the mountains. Halfway up the hill, where the ground started to turn into scrub and gravel, I turned around and, through a gap in the gently waving trees, saw the imperial city and was awestruck. Never forget sitting for 10 minutes and soaking up the crickets, music and whisper of breeze, while the moons tracked across the galaxy of stars above the imperial tower.
I tried to follow the road mostly, wandering here and there. I don't really remember the specifics other than that the first ruin I wandered into was freaking Umbras place south of the imperial city. Needless to say she wrecked me.
First thing I did was teabag a bandit and then spending more than 30 min to place her and her male buddy on each other to make them look like they were 69ing
My first hour after leaving the sewers, I looked for another way into the imperial city that wasn't the main gate. Because I had chosen a thief as my starting class, and didn't know how the guard ai worked, I thought they might attack me, so I snuck in by the docks, got chased off the pirate ship, acquiring a bounty in the process, and ran all the way to the coast, following the river.
I went into the game thinking "GTA Cyrodil" I immediately started stealing things from houses in the imperial city. Had no clue what to do with it all as I didn't know how to join the thieves guild
Anyone less than Jeremy Soule couldn't have written a score that comprehended the scale of this world or bestowed this kind of dignity, grandeur, immersion, or loneliness. What a beautiful experience this was - and still is, thanks to your video.
At first I thought it must be a programmed route that is recorded, but I was wrong. When I saw the clear decision making time when the bandit made off with your gold and the decision to kill him, I almost burst out laughing. Dedication to record this! dedication
The natural scenery, the shifting weather, the changing night sky, the beautiful soundtrack, the little attention to details as you explore, the nice transitions of the map... I could go on and on. It's all so good. It will always hold a special place in my little gamer heart. Thank you for the nostalgia tour.
Oblivion was my first elder scrolls game, and I played it on the PS3 first. It absolutely blew me away and I'd never played anything like it. I of course have played many more open world games since then but oblivion will always be my first love in the open world genre.
This game holds a special place in my heart and hearing this first track makes me tremble with emotion. My parents would constantly fight and being in a house of six, there was hardly a moment to even have a thought to yourself. I'd sneak on to my brothers Xbox and put this game in and load up one of his saves to just walk around, I didn't even know how to play the game but this gave me the chance to immerse myself into a peaceful realm for once. I credit this game to be my whole reason as why I even play games in the first place. I just redownloaded it and plan to mod it for a second playthrough as an adult. Ahhh how time has passed so swiftly, I miss my brother
I miss this, first time i got to know this game i was 7, my brother got the original cd copy, I thought it was some horror game cause of the first dungeon of the game, when you kill the rats. 3 years later i manage to play it and man, i fall in love with this franchise, especially this game, almost everyday i played, sometimes just walking, sometimes doing sidequests, i even drew the map with my favourite locations so i wouldn't forget. My favorite childhood game along with final fantasy 5
First game I ever got all achievements and it was on Xbox 360. Coming home from middle school and getting lost in this world. Going back to school the next day to tell my friends the weapons and armor I had gotten and asking about any secrets they discovered. Had a friend on the bus that told me about the helm in the water by Anvil. Getting knights of the nine and shivering isles later on to add to the game. 2006-2007 was amazing
remember the “end” when all that was left of your friend was the giant statue, and that glorious, bittersweet music played. i couldn’t stray far for a while after, didn’t want to lose the story, lose the magic. then i started a new game and became a vampire assassin and book collector. ah, true oblivion.
There’s a set of trails near my house that reminds me of walking the roads in this game. In the fall, it’s especially pretty. Sometimes I like to take an edible, put a video like this on and go for a walk. For a moment I am completely transported to the trails and roads of Cyrodill. This video is a gem and so is Loopy.
Also 1:13:05 I loved that you killed the bandit! Definitely made me drop what I was doing to look at the screen! Brilliant! I saw you pay him and was surprised you doubled back! Hilarious!
no but they're fine in their own way videogames are a form of design, it can be argued that design is a form of art but a vast portion (the majority) of art critiques will disagree. It is a really fine experience, i love videogames, but i believe calling it art is insulting. The americans like to call all this stuff "art": game art for example, is not Art, its an illustration functional to a consumer product. Its revised by multiple people before being packaged and shipped. Being the result of a three dimensional simulation, it has to be contained within its boundaries (different "modules" that compose a 3d engine). Just from a pictorial approach, it is far inferior to a painting. Think of how LOD is treated in distance: things are scaled down, mixed with ambient color (the "fog" you see in the distance) and thats it. Compare this to a painting: two different worlds. I could digress even more but in the end what the heck am i doing, no one even asked me anything so ill let you all be
@@rdl8443 What are you waffling on about? You’re arguing that games aren’t art because of details like LOD? There are plenty of art galleries that have ‘art’ that is just paint thrown onto a canvas. Claude Monet’s paintings are just as blurry as the LOD in video games. Of course video games are art and imo they have many benefits over other art forms, being so much more detailed and expansive than any painting could ever be. I don’t agree with the OPs comment because I don’t think there is a best form of art, but claiming video games aren’t art is just snobbery. “I believe calling it art is insulting” hah. I believe your opinion is insulting, just pretentiousness.
This will sound silly but growing up reading Chronicles of Narnia, I always wanted to be transported into a different world and it felt like the Zelda & Elder Scrolls (Oblivion & Skyrim) games always did that for me. Every time I hear this music, it transports me back there.

It's not just a diet, it's a lifestyle. It changed my health and life.. don't you think you owe it to yourself to try it for even 3 months?
This is my favorite oblivion ambient music video. Just the casual walking while listening to this gorgeous soundtrack paired with the occasional sound of life from a door opening or a highway robber. It's just so lovely and nostalgic, thank you for making my schoolwork bearable
I have fond memories of this game. Serving as a soldier in Iraq, one of the other soldiers had an Xbox and let me play from time to time. It gave me so much peace and a way to escape the world I was in, far from home. To this day, I think of those precious moments in the deserts of Iraq. So far away, so long ago. Still, I carry it with me.
All those memories… Travelling through those vast lands, fighting with creatures and exploring. It was a huge adventure to play this game. I remember being a young boy, having no worries in the world at that time and it was awesome.
Ahhh....how the memories come flowing back like a tidal wave when I see this. It brings back so many great memories of days gone by. What an epic masterpiece this game was, and always will be.
The music for this game is just beautiful. I know some people complain about Oblivion being a "bland" world, but I think it is just beautiful to its core. I like that for once we have a world that isn't predominantly barren and dark, and the music is a perfect reflection of this.
It may be a bit samey but Oblivion has an incredible artstyle imo. Something about the graphics makes it feel like home in a way. The soundtracks obviously helps as well. It's such a beautiful game, like a painting.
I am so in love with this game.. I remember playing it at the age of 14 or so while being sick. Great memories. I felt really lonely at that time and I was called "nerd" and "weird" for playing a fantasy game, even by my closest family & friends. But I would never want to miss the feeling of being able to escape into this beautiful world. x
All these Billions being spent on Virtual Reality headsets is futile. Nothing will ever compare to the experience and joy of immersing yourself into this masterpiece. It will forever be a work of art.
This is so incredibly relaxing. I love that you turned the enemy AI off so you can simply walk around Cyrodiil and not worry about being attacked. This is really what made this one of my all-time favorite games: the music and the world and the beautiful scenery all in one game.
Beautiful game, amazing soundtrack. Scares me to think how many hours/days/months I have sunk into this masterpiece! For me it's the goat and nothing will ever get close. Even this video of you walking brings a smile to my face. Thank you 😊
the amount of hours I spent on this world just doing exactly this. Walking around, exploring new places, reading books by the fire in my humble house in the waterfront district. I decorated more that house than the apartment i live in today XD. It was a great experience with goofy bugs and all. Also I'm sure I'm not alone on this when say I can recognize the different regions of the map by just looking at the vegetation on the video. Thank you for this video and the relaxing walk

I get so emotional watching this
It is sad that your best days are behind you but sadder that your best days are this video game. Morrowind was the one I liked most so far. It had the best magic customization. They took levitation and super jumps from oblivion? That was the coolest way to get around. Fun magic weapons too, but it was never the same in Oblivion or Skyrim. Morrowind has the best books to pick up and read too

We need a remake of both.

I honestly think Bethesda would be dead without jeremy soules music. Elder scrolls being their main game. The atmosphere is made by the music (as well as sounds). Awwww you sweetheart ❤️🙏🏻 both of you
Sadly I'm the same, I recently started to use the uploads from Loopy to fall asleep. Normally I just listen to Karl Pilkington, when I wake up it's important for me to quickly ground myself in reality, uploads such as this help me after I struggle to wake up.
@@LoopyLongplays thanks for this video, I just relax and go sleep in while this great oblivion night
Annie, I hope things have gotten better for you by now
I remember when I got Oblivion for Christmas in 2006... I got lost in it immediately.
...Good memories.
yeah tell me about it... crisped the disk 3 hours later because I put the xbox in a closed cabinet. My mom took me to the shop to trade it for a new one... still hope they didn't place the xbox back in the shelve
Agreed ... I remember emerging from the Imperial Sewers in the very beginning and the game basically just says, "Good luck...have fun," and that was it. I'd never played an open-world game before. I was stunned by the freedom.
@@falcon989 Same, Oblivion was my first open world ever and it was mindblowing. Ironic how I try to avoid open world games with a passion these days haha.
Man, I’ve had such a shit day today. I came home and saw this video on my homepage. Watched the whole thing, what a great time. 2006-2007. Those were the days. Thanks for uploading.
You're very welcome man, sorry to hear about your day I'm sure many can relate myself included, but it warms my heart to hear this could help you remember some good times. Cheers!
Best Elder Scrolls entry by far. Oblivion is a masterpiece.
My ex and I used to play this game so much together, this music always put me to sleep.. Such lovely memories. God rest his soul 🙏🏻 😇
Thank you for keeping his memory alive. I wish you the best ❤

The combination of the expansive landscape, soundtrack, ambient weather sounds and characters + HUD.... just- *chef's kiss*. Top 10 artworks of all time.
This is a first class ticket to sleepytown. 😴🌜✨
I think Oblivion was so special cos it let you just do this. You might be the great hero or whatever, but game is happy for you to be no one and just swing your legs and take in the colors and the flawless sounds. Timeless
*In 2012, I lived in a terrible part of town. I was the only one on the street that didn't buy/sell/take drugs. I am not saying this game saved my life...but I am so thankful I could come home and escape to here. To Jeremy Soule and all the developers who sacrificed so much to create this game: thank you. Thank you all so much.*

Whenever I come back to this game, I expect my rose-colored glasses to be cracked. But Oblivion really did have an atmosphere and level of depth that Skyrim (and, in some ways, even Morrowind) lacked.
By the nine, You stayed on the roads, that's safe :)
By far my favorite of the Elder Scrolls series. So many memories playing Oblivion. I remember I was working night shifts when this came out. I would get off at 6am and play for hours when I got home. I think I averaged 2 to 3 hours of sleep the first several weeks of oblivions release lol.
I was very young when Oblivion came out. To this day all these years later It will always hold a special place in my heart.
@@dylankane9709 it's definitely my favorite in the Elder Scrolls series.
Hundreds of hours of my life well spent on this game
Official *'My very first hour after leaving the sewers'* thread:
It was sunrise outside.
@@Wojtek_Ch there are two kind of people
My first hour after leaving the sewers, I looked for another way into the imperial city that wasn't the main gate.
2:37:41 It's so relaxing that he even put him to sleep.
Dedication to record this! dedication
Oblivion looked so magical, historical and so beautiful i never understood the people complain about this game's graphics i really loved
The natural scenery, the shifting weather, the changing night sky, the beautiful soundtrack, the little attention to details as you explore, the nice transitions of the map... I could go on and on. It's all so good. It will always hold a special place in my little gamer heart. Thank you for the nostalgia tour.
you know what
Oblivion was my first elder scrolls game, and I played it on the PS3 first.
2006-2007 was amazing
song at 34:04 is everything to me. What a magnificent magical journey Oblivion was.
remember the “end” when all that was left of your friend was the giant statue, and that glorious, bittersweet music played. i couldn’t stray far for a while after, didn’t want to lose the story, lose the magic. then i started a new game and became a vampire assassin and book collector. ah, true oblivion.
Would you mind saying where you live?
Also 1:13:05 I loved that you killed the bandit! Definitely made me drop what I was doing to look at the screen! Brilliant! I saw you pay him and was surprised you doubled back! Hilarious!
The absolute savagery of walking away without reclaiming the money after turning around killed me harder than than they killed the bandit.
And the fact that they were all khajit too sensing a bit of a negative stereotype

Videogames are the best form of art no doubt.
no
but they're fine in their own way
videogames are a form of design, it can be argued that design is a form of art but a vast portion (the majority) of art critiques will disagree. I could digress even more but in the end what the heck am i doing, no one even asked me anything so ill let you all be
@:3 yes, please extend your interests

Can't wait for Tes VI! Oblivion and Skyrim were so impressive!

Hey, if you ever want the chronic stomach pain to to away, do what I do, I had insane issues myself for years, but now I'm apart of this lifestyle called carnivore. Animal products only. Meat, eggs, grass fed butter, REAL cheeses, just protien. Cheat days on rare occasions and up to you but otherwise no carbs or sugars, no sauces that have either of those in them. It's not just a diet, it's a lifestyle. It changed my health and life.. don't you think you owe it to yourself to try it for even 3 months?
Imagine actually doing this for over 3 hours. Ha. Some serious dedication. And we appreciate the hell out of it. Thank you!!

It would be hilarious if you casually walked through an oblivion portal and peacefully through the whole area

All these Billions being spent on Virtual Reality headsets is futile. Nothing will ever compare to the experience and joy of immersing yourself into this masterpiece. It will forever be a work of art.
The best game soundtrack in existence.
Minecraft competes, in my eyes. But this is pretty much unmatched.
At 38 I just started this game for the first time. I feels like an old friend that I'm meeting for the first time.
This is so incredibly relaxing. I love that you turned the enemy AI off so you can simply walk around Cyrodiil and not worry about being attacked. This is really what made this one of my all-time favorite games: the music and the world and the beautiful scenery all in one game.
This game was amazing, I loved to just walk around and look up at the stars at night, it was an escape from life for me, many happy hours.
The memories of escaping high school hell to be an actual hero that made a difference. My love for this game will never die.
Love this! Helped me get into a writing mood :) Oblivion is one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you so much.

Morrowind has the best books to pick up and read too
@@voidremovedoh trust me dude, i played a lot of morrowind and thats also in the center of nostalgia.. We need a remake of both.

I honestly think Bethesda would be dead without jeremy soules music. Elder scrolls being their main game. The atmosphere is made by the music (as well as sounds). This music allows you imagine yourself in the world. Incredible.
