At the heart of the Crown Negative Rake Shear Scraper is a sturdy 5/8" diameter round shank and adjustable cryogenically treated high-speed steel cutter mounted at a negative rake angle. The round tool shank makes rolling the tool side to side when making shearing cuts smooth and effortless. It can also be used to make standard scraping cuts by holding the tool in a traditional scraping position.
Regardless of the type of cut, the Crown Negative Rake Shear Scraper helps you remove small tool marks and achieve a silky smooth surface with little or no tear-out on dense materials, exotic woods, and end grain areas too.
In order to achieve the best possible results, it's essential that the cutter have a burr on the cutting edge because the burr does the cutting. When the burr is gone, the cutter is dull and should be sharpened to create a fresh burr edge. This can be done with the cutter still mounted on the tool by sharpening the cutter on a grinder or honing the edge of the cutter by hand using a CBN or diamond hone. When there is a burr on the edge of the cutter, you're ready to go.
