      I Love your videos a say a huge thank you for taking the time trouble n hopefully not many risks in bringing these to us. I am fascinated by ww2 history especially the buildings n structures created n built n the weapons built just astonishing it's just as well the leadership was crap for the most part but that's not for discussion here great vid sir thanks again 👏👏👏👏🕊🕊🕊🕊

    In my opinion if this cave was being attacked the lower part of the door could be opened and a soldier could lay on the floor to fire at the enemy without being in the line of fire from the soldier manning the main firing position.

    • @WW2HistoryHunter
      @WW2HistoryHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That could be it. Thanks Penny

    • @kingfishers79
      @kingfishers79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its a stable door......called so because of horse stables,the lower part keeps the horse in and the top allows the horse to poke its head out....my guess is that it gives the option for the door to be fully closed or partially open at the top so the door could be manned visually whilst not allowing a mass entry into the room if the guard was shot as enemy soldiers would have to go single file over it.

    • @historyguard-ww2
      @historyguard-ww2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not bad idea... BUT... WHY ONLY in this military complex... ?!? Could it be a...bad mounting ?
      I wonder WHY/HOW THAT 'blast door' is STILL there... ??!

    • @slwgekte
      @slwgekte 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking that since the door is not in the firing line of the gun shudder its so that if somebody manages to get past the machine gun he will be crouched down under the shudders so as to be out of line of fire from there, then the person at the door shoots the hunkered down man or men infront of the door. It would be hard to fire down from behind the door if the hatch was in the top part of the door

  • @jakobgrimminger
    @jakobgrimminger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great explore. The turret looks like an observation turret, rather than for an MG. It should have a hole on top, in the middle for a periscope. As for the door, I can only think that it may be the only door readily available at the time but the hinge attachments were on the wrong side of the door for the frame. I can only think that if the enemy were firing into the entrance and the door hinges were the other way around, any incoming fire would enter the tunnels if the door wasn't fully shut. Thats my theory and i'm sticking to it!

    Awesome finds! The only reason I can think of as to why the door seemed upside down, is maybe it was a pre-fabricated door (already on hinges in the door frame) and they needed it to open in the direction it did rather than the other. Like they went to install it, would open the wrong way, so they flipped it. ??? That’s a good riddle. LOL
    Love watching you make all these discoveries with your kids. They’re a GREAT help! 👏🏼

    Another fantastic video guys, really interesting, so thank you. I think the shutter in the lower blast door is for defenders to throw a hand grenade through in the event the enemy is trying to enter the fotification, the blast door prevents injury to the person pushing the grenade through the shutter and closing it afterwards...not so good for the guys attacking on the other side of the blast door...just a thought

    Split doors were installed in case there was a cave in. The debris would fall on the floor and maybe block the door. Having the door split would allow you to crawl out the upper 1/2 door over the debris blocking the lower half.

    17:10 I have seen doors like that in a German military site before. At the old US Army field station Gablingen in the basement of the old German military airbase kitchens there is a set of double doors just like that except they are mounted side by side. They are spot welded shut but if you shine a light through the crack you can see a vertical concrete shaft that goes down... way down. I used to explore those old buildings from the war when I was stationed there in the 1980s. Something is down there but I could never get in. If you get down there please send me a link to what you find! I suspect the shutter is down because someone could lie down and shoot through to repel intruders. One lying down and another standing up, both shooting.

    What an incredible find. That site was obviously a very important, and busy, Command Centre, to have been dug into the hillside like that. The size of the place is amazing. The white painted rooms, the amount of bricks. The sliding hatch in the bottom" Stable Door" probably have served a couple of purposes. Could have been used for tossing grenades out into the passage way, without getting in the way of the main MG and for letting in a fresh air flow if the main air system was damaged of blocked, while under attack. Love the steel cupola on top. Borrowed from Poland's bunker system, or the Maginot Line? So cool. That place will eventually become another forgotten piece of History. Thank you both for bringing it to us. Cheers to Everyone! Please Stay Safe, Stay Healthy! 2020 is almost over!

    Wow another awesome discovery and EE is worth his weight in gold always spotting features. Very interesting place no doubt, i think you could spend the rest the rest of your life and still not find it all. The mind boggles at how much was built underground and the resources it took.

    Great video again! As to the door at 17:40 : It probably is mounted upside down because it has to open to the left and the hinches were on the wrong side. If the door would have opened to the right it would have blocked the close combat defense posistion. The reason being that this position is very close to the door if you look carefully.

    Wow!!! You lucked out HH and EE bumping into the elderly lady. She directed you to a huge find - A Schumacher Hauptsitz. Great catch sighting the big jagged and crushed rocks EE. They led you right to the chiseled out tunnel system. It's a good thing that you had flashlights and weren't afraid to use them. 😂 That X7R is a powerful light for sure. Pretty amazing that the air quality was still pretty good. Huge cables for power supply. Some heavy duty technology was used. Yes they were massive stairs. Just think of the work involved. We thank you for trying the stairs up to the turret, but relieved you didn't take a chance when a couple rungs were unstable. EE needs his Dad and we need to see more WW2 history. Pancer Dome was something. Would like to see a little more of that structure. A piece of the rubber gasket will make for a interesting Diorama for some lucky Patreon. Yes, it is hard going out and researching WW2 history and we appreciate it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year HH, EE, BBG fellow Patreons and faithful followers. Stay safe everyone.

    Another excellent episode, if that power was for communication ? then it must have been a very powerful long range perhaps repeater station HF was not very reliable! At that time certainly looks like a well defended long term set up. Could you fly the drone up the shaft ? Are you going to investigate this site with the detector? Regards FNQ AU
