  • Reverse grid for the first 8 positions in Race 1 meant I started on the front row. I had a very slow first lap, dropped to about 12th, then improved and ran consistently in the 1:11s for most of the race. Unfortunately the battery died in the camera before the end of the race.....

    TBH you lucky you didn't seize that motor, stop feathering the throttle lol, very poor start but slowly improving all through the race...

    Very courteous driver. Let's everyone pass him so as not to impede the flow of traffic. .

    SO fast! My adrenalin was pumping just watching this video. I just bought an old tag kart. Can't wait to get out and ride for fun.

    You were running too much front wing and rear wing. That's why many people say you are slow !!!
    ...
    :P
    Anyway, nice improvement through the race. I saw you going faster and be a little bit more risky on certain corners. ;)

    hi, the person who 'thinks' you are slow needs a lesson in how far you need to travel to even place a racing machine on a start grid .
    I am no cart expert . looking at your clocks and gear position at the end of the straight tells me that you may be a tad over geared ??
    I would have thought that the cart would be in top, 2 thirds down the straight and peaking just before the braking point?
    or your gearing is fine but you can't settle and get in the groove for some reason .

    • @NigelRCharman
      @NigelRCharman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it probably was a little overgeared, and running rich. I was thinkig that there was more to be gained from improving the driver than the kart, at that stage, so was aiming for reliability.

    • @NigelRCharman
      @NigelRCharman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually quickest point (on that day) was at the bottom of the Craner Curves. However, still over geared, as you say.

    Senna: Donnington, European GP.
    4th to 5th and to 1st before the end of the first lap.
    You went from 2nd to 12th in the 1st lap.

      You would have to conclude that Senna was better than me.

    I have raced karts with briggs and clone engines and average speed at most tracks would run 75-80 mph no shifting, I would like to try this just once in a open track no compition

      These karts are doing 100 mph to zero in a little over 2 seconds. I was probably taking 2.5 seconds. It is quite hard in a new kart to instantly have the confidence to brake from 130mh at the 50m board, but I did improve a little.

    Do Superkarts have a Clutch Pedal?

    • @NigelRCharman
      @NigelRCharman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they often have a clutch pedal. The brake pedal often extends Both sides of the steering column so driver can left foot brake. some drivers right foot brake only. Some karts have a hand clutch. Once underway most gear changes are (sympathetic) clutchless i.e. with a throttle lift.

    Same start from Carl Hulme's kart>>>> th-cam.com/video/kRPCWJIDwek/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/OrT2wkgelXo/w-d-xo.html Front and rear cameras! Carl is awesome, gets taken out first corner and is back with the leaders by the end of the lap!

      Stephen paul Trethewey come to one of the meetings and you will see how untrue that comment is. Most drivers are normal people bringing the kart in the back of a van. We have lorry drivers and plumbers, as well as engineers and doctors. I did the whole championship on £6500. Which is too little, really.

    Your braking WAY too early and NOT cornering anywhere near hard enough.

    • @NigelRCharman
      @NigelRCharman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +mozzmann Yes Mozzmann, you are right. This was my first weekend in a twin, and I built up through the weekend. At the end of the year I found i had won the club championship - so I obviously didn't do too badly.

      Do you have to change the rings after every race ?

    • @NigelRCharman
      @NigelRCharman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike, no I can do a couple of meetings (6 practice / race sessions) before changing pistons and rings.
