@Cynnx7 i am a Joy Division fanboy and think they were the greatest band of all time. This cover is absolutely beautiful and i just can't relate to all these haters here. It's scary to see how intolerant some people are.
I just love when somebody makes a wonderful cover and makes it look like a total different song. That express a lot of creativity and talent as musicians
that should be the point of a cover song... make it your own. what would be the point of doing it exactly the same? none... it would be like painting someone elses painting...
I love Melanie Pain's voice and eyes. As Goethe said: all is permitted that pleases A song is never written to be carved in stone. I cant understand why so many hate this song because its not sung by Joy Division.
A cover version of the song is rarely 'better' than the original - but no song should be put on a pedestal. This version shows a different way of thinking about and hearing the song, and I think that that's excellent.
wooow...i really really like the way the song was performed - even though it is watched just over a monitor they still give their spirit of the song through...magnificent
This videos comments are all about people wanting to hear a tribute to their favorite artist in the exact same way their favorite artist did it. All else is crap.
I think that this is a brave attempt to perform a 'holy grail' type song. I have heard other versions performed by David Gahan and The Cure. Those versions almost verge on boring as they are trying to capture the 'Joy Division' sound and don't really shed any new light on this song. So thumbs up for Nouvelle Vague!
@@zee339 He probably hates Serge Gainsbourg and Leonard Cohen, too. I'm definitely saying he, because I've never met a woman who didn't get turned on when I played NV.
OMG! How dare u say that!MUSIC is a form of expression! diffrent bands express songs differently, and when they cover a song, its because they are really impressed by that song and its creator and want to express it in their own light! Ian Curtis would be happy to see ppl like this covering he's work! leonard cohen for example has had Hallelujah covered by more bands and solo artists than u can count, each one brilliant!
Once Ian Curtis said "The meaning of our song is not important. It depends on the person listening our song. Sometimes meaningless, but it has become to have mean. That is just like monkey typing letter. Later it will has mean." I think so many dislikes are not enemy. Probably, difference or matter of opinion. I vote for likes.
you don't even know what you're talking about ... This is only crap ! She sing just as she didn't understand what the words mean... Nouvelle Vague don't cover songs , they empty them of their content, to make them look like small and insignificant sweet ballads sung by pretty girls.. saddening !!!!
From an American mate: Got to agree with you on this one bro. You're right -- so many musicians (especially when doing re-makes) miss the point that the music has to be felt, not just sung well. Otherwise we'd all just love great voices. It's about the art. It's not about feigning to be rock stars and looking pensive while singing.
Even though it looks like they're in someone's back yard I think an outdoor setting is perfect for Nouvelle Vague no matter whose backyard they are in! While the original song could make one wanna drown themselves guzzling coldbeer in self destructive depression, this one makes you wannna sip martinis and not mind the paint thinner taste. Nouvelle Vague Forever!!!!
I’ve heard a N’Orleans brass band, Dead Elvis, amateur choirs, the Heritage Orchestra and so many more cover this - more power to anyone drawn to this modern classic
Nouvelle Vague is so great because they have a very mellow European sound but they mix in the American and British pop songs; thus producing a delightful hybrid between whimsical listening and Pop. That's why they hooked me.
What some people tend to forget is that people of all walks of life ( including Nouvelle Vague....why else would they cover it?) genuinely love this song with all their hearts and that they interpret in their own ways. This is in every way as authentic as the original, no jokes.
I was in a bar in pennsylvania on a friday night explaining to my friends that around tuesday of that week I borrowed Yeah Right!, a skate video which featured Love Will Tear Us Apart and it was my new favorite song that captivated me. And then on wednesday I saw Donnie Darko for the first time and that song was in it, and then on Thursday I was listening to a radio show and a comedian used Joy Division as a butt of a joke about sad british music. It was so odd to be because I'd never heard of joy division before. This was around 2005? Then as I'm telling them this story, this version by Nouvelle Vague started playing in the bar. It was absolutely creepy. Then 16 or 17 years later I'm in Mexico City telling a british guy about this coincidence while we are getting drunk and telling longform stories in one of those random instances in which someone will hear out your whole deal like that, and it turned out he knew Celeste from Nouvelle Vague from his travels in Cuba.
LOVE this cover. Simply beautiful! Nothing like the original but I really don't think they were trying to make a better version...Its Music guys, chill, relax and appreciate someone's beautiful talent.
i dislike when people write bad comments about this cover. it's a COVER! it's not suppose to be like the original. hello???? people just don't get it. I LOVE this version better than the original. most covers are 1000 times better than their originals. go nouvelle vague!!!! you rock!!!! ;)
Anyone hung up over bands who do covers when its a band like this who are all about really good fun live perfomances needs to unwind and drop the EMO rage. Dont worry no one can touch the first Joy devision version but Im pritty sure they rock live + have given loads of people a really good night out. + damn sexy voice, great version glad its not just regurgitated either.
music is life. period. every moment in your life has a song that will emote this is one moment in your life I dont care who you are....everyones been...right....here.
Nouvelle Vague are known about unusual interpretations of songs. The source of their songs are all covers of punk rock, post-punk, and New Wave songs, and are rearranged to '60s bossa nova-style. They have many different singers and they leave them to decide how the song will sound. And in my opinion Melanie Pain is one of most sensual voices that sang with them. All Joy division fans: its normal that you like original more. You have to listen to more sons of NV to appreciate their work.
when i first heard it i thought it decent but not great but now it has grown on me and i've been listening to it constantly more reflective and detatched than the original
Seriously?! Why can't these people understand the raw emotion that Ian Curtis was PERSONALLY conveying through this song? It is totally lost here...it's a slap in the face and a kick in the eye!

I love the sound effect of water flowing. It adds such a great naturalism to it.
In 2006 Nouvelle vague actually brought me to the post punk/new wave era. I will always love them for that
I love Melanie Pain's voice and eyes.
As Goethe said: all is permitted that pleases

Such a long time since i heard it first and it still gives me shivers... incredible...
best cover i've heard of this song.kudos and thats from a big joy division fan.
I can't really understand why someone would dislike this...
Still loving this in 2024!
this puts an entirely new perspective on this song. I deeply enjoyed it.
I love Joy Division (I come from Ian Curtis's home town) but nice to hear such a different interpretation.
They hit with this song.
I heard once and I found myself humming. Now, now I'm listening... again.
this is way better than the album's version, especially because Melanie's finally singing in English and non in Frenglish :P
My hearing her/them doing this song is what lured me to buy the CD. I think it's very well done.
A cover version of the song is rarely 'better' than the original - but no song should be put on a pedestal. This version shows a different way of thinking about and hearing the song, and I think that that's excellent.

i find this music really beautiful and simple
one of the best live acts, thank you
Amazing cover, well done Melanie!
I like this song, Its like a feast for my soul. Her voice is so amazing.

Is it the words, or the emotion? Is it both, when your mood changes... I love this band...
Why so much dislikes ????
Because it is a horrible cover.

Oussama Mabrouki perfection is perfect
+Oussama Mabrouki because this shitty attempt to cover Joy Division really sucks.
I grew up loving joy division and then new order. This is beautiful.
I think it's great. Lovely voice and sound. nice take on the original. Beautiful.
The studio version is better than the original. This is way way better than the original!
Great version - but the original is still fucking amazing ....it' the song that matters not really who is delivering it imho

Fabulous cover version.
Another reason to hate hipsters
Hipsters can't even change their own oil or wipe themselves - let alone make music. Puh-leeeeeez.
her voice is so beautiful!
this is just wrong in so many ways...
This is my favorite cover of this song that I've heard.
These ladies are worth !!!! Love them and love this cover. And im an inconditional JD fan.
There is no bigger Joy Division fan than me !!
Thanks Nouvelle Vague for this wonderfull cover!!

Never-mind the semantics! I am glad that someone is helping the song alive.....ergo the J.D. legacy flowers on.

i really like this bossa nova feel in the beginning. thats a pretty cool take on the song.
Excelente cover!
this is just GREAT i prefer the original version but this is so sweet.... shes the sweetest.

she is great! Love the song! She is amazing!
A true cover this is, a cover is reinventing a song in my opinion, and this works.
Her voice makes my soul happy.
Yes they did - it was brilliant

Yeah, and you can do a reggae version too. This song is magic.
Such a smooth-soft voice

I know Ian wrote this as a semi-autobiographical piece but this is the best cover I've heard n a very long time.
SIMPLY GREAT - LOVE this song!!!

just amazing the ways the music can move j aime
I couldn't have said it better. There is no emotion in her voice and that is one of the things that Ian had in this song.
