Lets see: consumerism, paganism, nationalism, optimistic... yeah the USA is a social experiment where the participants have forgotten they are participants and started living the lies told to them. Very sad but then all nations and cultures are fake. There is only the individual.
It's so frustrating to watch my favorite TV series on TV because it feels like there's a commercial break every 5 mins,i don't even remember what happened before the current commercial break. 😔 it's much better in England, no commercial break during an episode.
Why do people in Europe talk about the us like it’s one state, Alabama is pretty different from New England. While Europe has different countries, culture is relatively similar.
@@jordanconstantino10 That's the most nonsense comment I've ever read... Guns are for war, violence and unrest, peace doesn't have anything to do with them
Another strange thing in the US are the walls in the houses. They are like paper you just have to look at it and it breaks. Here in Europe a truck can drive in your house and there will be just a small damage
I work in construction and can confirm that most houses and apartments are built with 2x4 stick framing and sheet rock and you can EASILY put holes in the wall with little effort
I remember when I moved to the US everything looked so huge to me - the streets, the cars, the homes, the food portions, the drinks, the people. I felt so weird and tiny.
Many of us hate ours as well. Commercial broadcast stations are struggling to get by, running insane amounts of repeated ads that make you forget what you were trying to watch. Many others, however, find ads "morally important" as they are thought to serve our wealth. I find that "opinion" to be brainwashing, even the Bhagwan couldn't have dreamed to control that level of dehumanized obedience.
Well, on the bright side, commercials every fifteen minutes give nice five minute breaks to use to bathroom. Here in Europe, you either have to pause the show or wait until the hour is over (times vary depending on the show)
carzzz 1 They have specific examples or said “some European countries....”. We Americans are getting better at learning about all the fantastic non-American world out there 😉
Well calling us Europeans is kind of a stretch. You'll get different reactions from us as there are 44 countries and each one of them has it's own cultural bubble. When Europeans visit different European countries, they'll find everytime something weird about it. Even if you visit a bordering country there will always be something extremely weird about it.
@@railroadforest30 I know, I see USA as a cluster of states, but you have the same language and similar culture. While in Europe, all of the 44 countries speak different languages and have different traditions and culture, food, architecture, art, literature, philosophy etc. everything is different.
And some of those countries have smaller subdivisions with their own culture and languages. The UK for example has Scotland, England and Wales, as well as northern Ireland, added to this you have Welsh, Scottish and Irish Gaelic, and brentish, so you could be in one part of the country seeing signs in English cross a border and bam you got road signs in another language with people who have different habits and customs
@@crwydryny Yes, you are right. I Thought not to go that deep into regional disparities inside a country, as I was sure that if Europe is seen as a country, that would be over everyone's head. We have different ethnic groups in Central Europe which form a majority in different regions and some small cities have the signs in their language also. Man I love Europe, I'm always finding something interesting about it 😁
Lol, Europe stretches from Portugal to Russia, from Norway to Cyprus imagine how many cultural differences these nations have. Even two central european neighbours Germany and Poland are very culturaly far from each other. Europe is too complex to be generalized.
yeah of course they are very different but I doubt it still can be compared to europe, all the languages and different societies do create some barriers even though globalisation is bringing people closer together.:P
Your 2nd point about American Football is incorrect. They do touch the ball with their feet, only in specific situations like kicking a field goal or punting the ball to the other team. They don't touch the ball with their feet over 90% of the time like soccer, only about 10% of the time.
WibblyWobblyTimeyWimey Im American and I once believed that, with the protective gear and all. But you got to think, these are well groomed athletes worth millions. one injury can cause him, the team, and owner a lot of money. pussy or not injuries can happen. besides, I don't think anybody on a rugby team can play against 250 300 pound NFL players
You can't even actually drive at 16, you have to get a parent's permission to do so. If you do get permission, there are a ton of rules, like curfew and not having passengers. I am from the US I think it is weird how this works. You can't buy tobacco products until your 21 too.
@@dogguy8603 That's true! We have some kind of military contract with USA. It's something like: "If Denmark gets attack or being forced into war. The American Military will come to aid Denmark. American Things Europeans find weird: 1. $50,000 per year on university tuition - in Europe is FREE! 2. No FREE health care?! 3. 10 days vacation?! 30 Days in Europe! 4. No paid maternity leave?! 14 months paid in Europe! 5. GUNS!!!!!!!!!
@@raptor2792 people do have guns in Europe for hunting, living in Germany and Croatia, I have never seen someone with a gun! And 40% of the population of Serbia has gun access about 2.7 million people, this is the highest of all European countries! Where as US has 120% gun ownership within 100 people! Meaning 340 Million guns are in the hands of civilians in the United States! Obviously not everyone has a gun, but some people have 20 or more! Mass shootings in Europe are rare! In 2019 in US there were 435 mass shootings, one every single day!
Taxes, taxes, taxes. Here, we have people crying that they "have to pay for other people's children's schooling and healthcare and it's not fair," especially when they do not have children. The country is that individualistic. There are public schools here paid for with taxes, but many people do not send children to them because ""their students can get a better education at a private school which I am responsible for, not the government." People do not use their vacation days because they do not want to look "lazy" to their boss. The country rebelled over taxes. Some go as far as to say EVERYTHING should be private, even prisons. Everything here is me, me, me. Get it?
Europeans acting like all the states of America are the same... There Re 50 sperate states, all with different personalities..... I know this, I've been to 38 states.
The guns have been available in mail order catalogues since the early 1900's- (it's harder to get now, but there are already so many out there) Trying to claw all of them back in would remove them from the people that would abide by a law that now bans the ownership of such things... and that would leave people that don't follow the law with the few guns left... (the police still have guns, but they are only reactionary... so they'll show up to photograph your murder scene) Now, I'm not saying we're sitting inside our houses with a gun in a shaking hand pointed at the door- but what better deterrent to someone kicking in a door than the thought of getting a shotgun blast to the center of one's chest? An armed society is a polite society. Chicago has a gun ban and at least 10 or so shooting every week. It's almost like criminals don't follow the law, eh? Health care is overpriced and nobody wants to deal with a drunk 17 year old.
INDIGO BLUEoO Americans cant buy alcohol as long as they are younger than 21. So they get bands of shame whenever they want to go into pubs or clubs - hahahaha.
Europe is literally filled with churches and not any type of churches we have really big ones and most of the time the cathedral is the biggest building in the city or town and can be seen from everywhere
kmsharley75 Yes, you've got this illogical and impractical "imperial" system. You know, almost whole world use metric system - don't you think it's just better (because it's simple)?
That's actually false. A lot of us want to/use the metric system. It's almost like Liberia, they use the metric system, but they don't "officially" use it. Also let's not forget that the Canadians use the Imperial system on their railways :)
Blame it on the fact that trying to change an entire countries standard measument system would cost to much to do so for a second time (americans tried once before when metric was still new but it just didn't stick with us so now we basically have to learn two measurement systems just to make everyone else happy).
Studies show that dental health and hygiene in the UK is no worse than in the US. It’s more of an aesthetic fashion. It’s common to have your teeth cosmetically whitened and straightened in America. Not so much in the UK.
only in the UK* Don't make the mistake of mixing up "european" and a certain country. In Germany it is normal to have good teeth, but we don't whiten them often
Marzelmusik I haven't really seen many people with bad teeth for my entire 27 years of life in the UK. I think it's more of a diehard stereotype from a 100 years or so ago.
@Techno Kebab Look, I don't pay attention to Insurance as much as other things, and I'm not fully American, I am still adjusting to my new way of life. Sorry I couldn't answer it, but you can ask a person who really knows about Insurance in America
Tom Maika What does that even mean? How could a waiter get better? I thought their solely purpose just to takes order and deliver the food, I mean this is not a fanservice cafe like maid cafe or whatever weeb shit.
What is your disposable income vs gross income tax rate? My Canadian relatives state they have 'free' healthcare because the United States provides CANADA with FREE Military Defense. I am curious to your answer.... in whatever European Nation you reside. Mine, in Texas is .91 ... so if I make $100,000, I keep $91,000. We do have local property taxes, tolls and sales taxes too which are up to the individual to control.
Kvass this doesn’t really happen lol healthcare is a sketchy issue but the reason why European countries don’t pay for them is because you pay with your taxes (which Americans do not like to do).
Things that I find weird about the USA: 1. HUGE gaps between toilets.. 2. The pricetag does not include tax so you have to kind of guess what you’ll have to pay 3. Not actually wanting to know how I am when saying ‘hi, how are you?’ 4. Having to give a 15-20% tip, like no?? 5. Your flag is everywhere 6, you can buy guns in walmart 7. But surprise eggs are illegal 8. You don’t use the metric system???1?1?1? 9. There are advertisements for prescription drugs 10. The bread is so sweet 11. You have to pay to apply for college??? 12. WHY do you write MM/DD/YYYY instead of DD/MM/YYYY w h y??? 13. WHAT THE FRIGGITY IS THAT MACHINE IN YOUR SINKS THAT CUTS GARBAGE UP??? HOW DO YOU NOT LOSE YOUR FINGERS???
nienke Have you not seen how fat we are? We need that huge gap so that the toilet seat is comfortably centered under each enormous ads cheek. 2. This annoys the hell out of us as well. 3. This is merely a polite way to open a conversation. Its not intended to be an invitation to actually discuss how you are doing. The social expectation is that the person asked will answer briefly, return the question, and then move on to another topic. Example: Person 1 "how are you?" Person 2 "terrible but I'm surviving. How are you?" Person 1 "Not bad, hey did you did you see the game last night?" 4. Servers make shit wages and depend on tips for income. Its not an ideal system but since a server may only make 4 or 5 dollars per hour we consider it extremely rude not to leave a tip (assuming the server did a good job). 5. We consider our flag a symbol of our people and our heritage rather than a symbol of our government. 6. Why wouldn't Wall-Mart sell guns? Seems like a bad business decision for a general merchandise store to not sell a product for which there is a huge demand. 7. Eggs aren't illegal. 8. We do use the metric system but not exclusively. 9. I can't explain this because our insurance company generally decides what medication we end up getting. 10. We love sugar. Hence one of the reasons were all obese. 11. No big shock there. They slap fees on dann near anything here. 12. Either way is acceptable. 13. Its a garbage disposal and people routinely end up in the ER with mangled fingers from them.
For Euro travelers: The person asking for your ID likely knows you’re old enough, however if they serve alcohol, tobacco, or other age-restricted products without requiring you to show an ID, they could be fired. Local laws impose harsh fines on businesses who sell these products to underage customers, and to enforce them, regulators pose as “secret shoppers”. If one shows up, tries to buy beer or cigarettes, and the clerk or server _doesn’t_ require an ID, the business can be issued a fine on the spot. If a business is in violation multiple times, the owner will lose their licenses to sell age-restricted products, possibly even their entire business license.

I said, I think it is He said, I don't like to brag But we're kinda proud of that ragged old flag You see, we got a little hole in that flag there when Washington took it across the Delaware And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key Sat watching it writing say can you see And it got a bad rip in New Orleans With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams And it almost fell at the Alamo Beside the texas flag, but she waved on though She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg And the south wind blew hard on that ragged old flag On Flanders field in World War one She got a big hole from a Bertha gun She turned blood red in World War Two She hung limp and low a time or two She was in Korea and Vietnam She went where she was sent by Uncle Sam She waved from our ships upon the Briny foam And now they've about quit waving her back here at home In her own good land here she's been abused She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused And the government for which she stands Is scandalized throughout the land And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin But she's in good shape for the shape she's in 'Cause she's been through the fire before And I believe she can take a whole lot more So we raise her up every morning We take her down every night We don't let her touch the ground and we fold her up right On second thought, I do like to brag 'Cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag

What's weird about your tipping culture is that it's mandatory, and not something extra for actually good service. It's just been used as an excuse to pay people less than the minimum wage because tips are also income
mathijs van der poel I kinda wish the tipping thing was less in the US (and some restaurants are getting rid of tipping) but it also kinda makes sense. You have it all wrong though. Tipping is not mandatory. No one holds one of our millions of American Guns (people have/will surely bring up) and forces you to tip! We do tip less for bad service - I do anyways. If you are my server and are rude or inattentive, the tip starts declining. If you are awesome, I will go as high as 25% (you better be awesome). It's not an excuse to pay less. It's paying for performance, it works best in service type jobs like waiting tables compared to service jobs like Tech Support. It's just like they say in Reservoir Dogs. People can make a livable wage by waiting tables. Especially if they bust their ass and the restaurant has good turnover.
Tipping is not mandatory here in America no matter what people think with very few exceptions. It is assumed, and something I have always done, but at no point when dining do I feel I have to do so. I give money to the server based upon how good the service was to me...good service gets better tips, bad service gets a penny. Simple.
i think it's weird that americans put their shoes everywhere. i often see in movies and tv shows how they put their feet on the bed or on the couch without removing their shoes.

i'm glad, that americans among you find that weird, too. it was bugging me a long time. it didn't make sense, since you seem (again, only what i saw on social media, tv, and films) to have a lot of hygiene oriented rules which sometimes go too far imo, like no double dipping when you eat with friends...
globalSchelmuffsky Yeah... thats just on TV. Pretty weird to do it cus it can get your furniture dirty. I double-dip anyways, it’s just people think you are backwashing it or something. It’s frowned upon sometimes but eh, even an American can’t even understand America.

While it will (hopefully) never have to come to it, we need guns as a sort of insurance policy against invasion and government oppression. Also, it makes for a good deterrent. 6. I don't see what's wrong with being patriotic, being thankful for all of the opportunities that the country has given you. Of course you can have too much patriotism which becomes an ugly thing called ultra-nationalism, but most Americans aren't ultra-nationalists.
Samzhere I don't think the imperial system is necessarily a bad thing by itself, but it can be confusing for us as we were never really taught the conversions (at least in the UK)
I find weird that Americans think that Europeans are so much diffrent. They also treat all Europeans like they were the same country. Every country is diffrent.
To be fair, Europeans and even Canadians occasionally treat Americans like we are all from the same place. I moved from NY to Nevada and I felt like I was in a different country where the only thing we really had in common was language.
BadgerCheese94 in american states at least religion and language stays the same. Take Chechnya as an example they are muslim and speak chechen or in Europe it would be hard to compare Serbia to Spain, two countries with different cultures, holidays, languages etc.
BadgerCheese94 Nah fam the difference between countries like Sweden and Denmark is bigger in both customs, language, society, holidays, laws you name it. The states maybe have some slang differences and some laws that aren’t the same but over all it is the same country and it would be better to do a list with maybe China and America bc then it is at least two COUNTRIES you are comparing
Regular people carrying guns wouldn't look "fairly weird" to Europeans. It would look completely out of place and that person would appear like a potential killer.
Like 99% of criminals have guns here. We banned the carry of weapons for like 30 years and there was still a lot of violent crime by criminals illegally carrying weapons. As a result we legalized carrying guns with a permit(In most areas) and as a result gun crime dropped since there were less defenseless victims. There are too many guns here for us to simply get rid of(Estimated at over 400 million guns) so that's why we let people carry guns for defense. Also it is in our constitution as well and changing that would probably result in thousands of deaths in civil unrest/civil war.
People carrying around guns actually isn’t as common as you think in the US. I’ve only seen a few instances where people were carrying guns in public, and they got a few weird stares. I personally found it odd when I went to England and Italy and saw the streets filled with militiamen holding guns. That made me uneasy, personally.
Amanda Bisby Uh have you heard of concealed carry? There are probably a lot of people carrying guns that you don't know about. I carry a lot but almost always concealed so I don't cause alarm.
Garrett - When the commenter was referring to people”carrying guns” and it looking “completely out of place” I assumed they meant guns that were visible as, if you couldn’t tell if someone had a gun, why would it cause alarm?
@Anna Moore Do you have a choice of whether or not you give them your money? What happens if you don't? They're mugging you. You just think it's somehow different because it's the government doing it.
America isn't the only country you have to pay 4 healthcare tho, why is everyone making such a big deal of this, however i do think it should be free especially for the poor.
What i really find weird as a European is the phrase "How are you doing?" being used casually and not actually being interested in the answer. I know its a supposed polite phrase. But as a European i find it rude that the person/stranger asking the question isn't interested in hearing the answer. So to me the effect seems quite the opposite of the original intention.

There's actually a reason to that, a house built that would be immensely cheaper to repair/rebuild if destroyed by a tornado than a concrete or other material building. Since tornadoes are frequent dangers.

Guilty. I always assumed it would be foggy and drizzly with the nation closing down for “teatime” with bobbies and palace guards walking about all over. Americans tend to get their cultural knowledge from tv and movies like National lampoons “euro vacation”, unfortunately.

Sure if every gun caused a school shooting i would be deported to the center of a dying star with a 24 armed guard and probably a fine of upwards of 1 billion dollars
If anything, the whole world should allow citizens to possess firearm, it even stops shootings as guards simply take out the shooter. Shootings in America actually occur in liberal cities where gun control is strict.
Hans Dampf i completely agree--but europeans need to understand that we americans aren't just all one group and culture. In no way am i disrespecting your opinion, i am just voicing mine.
Shelly Gomez I‘m sure you are right. There is a difference in every country depending which area / state you come from. Nobody can claim things like „Americans are...“ as well. Nevertheless Europe is a continent, so the difference is even more significant because of the huge amount of countries next to each other.
Shelly Gomez True, but the differences between countries in Europe is far greater than the differences between US states. Referring to an entire continent as some homogeneous entity is utterly bizarre.
It's just like here in the U.S. What may be normal in NYC and LA is vastly different from what goes on in Indianapolis. Heck NYC is vastly different from NY state.
I think the strangest thing for me was seeing adverts on tv for medicine for sick people with price tags. In Scotland you don't pay for prescriptions so seeing that seemed bizarre and felt quite sad.
AlbaRecoil whats sadder than that is not to long ago there was a guy being blown up in the news because he raised the price of a life saving prescription by 100% making it near impossible for the people who really needed that medication to be able to afford it. And when called out it his response was basically "i can do what i want, and if they need it, they'll pay for it"
Breenud39 TV I know right! On top of that they don't do to go boxes. So, you get halfway through and then the internal debate starts about rather not looking like a wasteful American is worth the sick feeling you get when you've eaten way to much.
When I heard that everything is bigger, my mental process was: everything bigger = bigger houses bigger houses = more area more area = more cleaning More cleaning = I'm not moving to America
Lol. Most people here don’t have huge houses. Mine is considered “on the large end of average” for an actual house (as opposed to an apartment or some other kind of rental) and it’s around 2,000 square feet. It has a basement under it but is “unfinished”. Basically just a concrete hole in the ground that the house sits on that’s used for work or storage.
Us british like americans even though they stereotypes us all the time, an American lady once came to my house and immediately thought it looked like Harry Potter
A European here: what shocked me the first time I visited California, was the large amount of obese people around me. It also surprised me to see that many clothes shops had fat mannequins. I felt small.
I’ve never been to America but for some reason Florida is kind of a joke in The Good Place and I’ve no idea why. I know that Jason is from there and less intelligent than average but I assume that’s not general to the state, well I hope it’s not.
The amount of people the US puts in prison is madness. The land of the free has most prisoners per capita by far. Lobbyism, in general, is also very bizarre to me as a European living in America. It's essentially legal government bribery that nobody ever talks about
The even crazier part of the prison system is that the same people who are in favor of locking up criminals and throwing away the key are the same ones against welfare and socialized medicine. They don't seem to realize that prisoners get food shelter, and medical care paid for by taxes. The penal system should be there to rehabilitate criminals so they become productive members of society but instead we institutionalize them and create a greater need for taxes so for profit prisons can make money.
Well thanks to Reagan, there are private prisons that don't receive gov funding(I might be wrong on the funding). They've essentially made it a business, creating a bigger demand for prisoners. This, at least to any other European I've met, is highly unethical
The for profit prisons are publicly funded but privately owned and operated. The claim when states started switching to them was that it would be cheaper to have a private company own and manage a prison than for the government to do it but this has turned out to be false. We are paying more per prisoner with the for profit model and the contracts put fines on the states if they don't keep the facility above a certain % of it's capacity. This leads to people who could be paroled for good behavior staying their full time if the prison is at that minimum fill limit. Add to this cutting programs that were meant to help rehabilitate prisoners to lower costs and look tough on crime and the system becomes a revolving door where the ex-cons can't make an honest living so they go back to crime and get thrown back in prison.
Oh no, when the government was only paying private prisons for inmates currently incarcerated, no prisons released prisoners early and added onto their sentences. Now most private prisons have a deal with the government if someone is sentenced to 9 months, the prison is paid to house them for 9 months even if they release them in two months, then they fill that empty bed with another prisoner. So they are generally getting paid for way more inmates than they actually have at any given time. Like everything in America that has been privatized, it costs the government way more money than to just do it themselves. But, someone's buddy had a kid that needed free income. Most of the private prisons are also built with tax payer money and then GIVEN to the private company to run.

That last one is wrong; British dental health is on average, better than the United States. We just don't consider white and straight teeth to be all important. If our gnashers are strong and healthy, that's good enough. This is because in England, everyone gets dental care; it's not seen as a luxury or symbol of status, the same way it is in the US.
The thing I find weird is that alot of American's group the whole Europe as one country, despite the fact it's composed of 50 countries, has 11 different currencies and 24 different languages.
Jacob- I've seen so many comments like yours. Why would you assume that Americans think Europe is one country?? Europe is the name of the place. Calling it by its name does not imply we think it's one country. There's no correlation. I've never met an American in my life who thought Europe was one country- that's absolutely absurd! How can so many Europeans think such a ridiculous thought? It boggles my mind.
Amaryllis- Europe is far away from the US, and it's expensive and time-consuming for Americans to go there. Many Americans use the chance to go to more than one country while they're there, because it's the logical thing to do. So it makes more sense to say "I'm going to Europe", than to bother naming each country. Usually if an American is going to one country only, then they'll say "I'm going to France". Europeans do the same when they visit the US. They say "I'm going to the United States". They don't bother specifying which state. And yes, I'm comparing countries to US states, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's simply examples of the difference between saying something general, and saying something more specific. You could break it down to country, then region, then city, then part of the city, etc. You could break it down as much as you want. But saying "I'm going to Europe" makes perfect sense, because that's the name of the place, and it's the truth. Nothing to complain about.
I'm pretty sure most Americans don't think of Europe as one country. It's more of one region, like Asia. I've seen many people generalize the west as one thing as well. I've also heard many people just say "north america", even though Canada and Mexico are also part of north America. It's the same thing; i don't think they're actually thinking of it as a country, its just sort of the region in general.
In the US I went into a bar and the barman asked me to leave because I didn't have an ID with me. I was 38. I told him: look at me, do I look a minor to you? Seriously. I mean, seriously. I said "Ok, I will just order a coke" and I still was not allowed IN, I had to go out and that was the only open place in the freaking small town. I was shocked. Another time at the supermarket, I was with my boyfriend. We did a big shopping and he had some beers in it too, he had an ID. We were together at checkout. They didn't want to sell him the beers because I didn't have the ID with me. I was still 38. I couldn't believe it! I said "ok then! I don't know him, this is his shopping! He is going to pay for it anyway!" and they still wouldn't sell him the beers, shop's rules. I had to talk to the manager. It's insulting: we are 2 grown adults, I'm visibly almost 40, the last time I was told I can not buy something was 30 years ago by my mom, what is that? Plus, I don't have an American ID and I don't intend walking around with my Passport, risking being robbed and losing it, then it's a big problem!? And this is the land of the free?
I just tell them to stop coming to my table if they expect tip because I won't tip, their boss should pay them a decent salary. They never come back. I pick up my own food if needed and I damn well can pour myself a glass of beverage, don't need someone to do that for me, it's almost borderline rude.
The suburbs. There are no supermarkets or playgrounds or bars or clubs or anything, just row after row of houses. They have gigantic lawns, every single one of them and all look the same. They also appear to have never been used, there are no picnic tables, no parasols, no children's artworks out of chalk, no flowers. Just a huge patch of grass sitting there, sad and alone. Nobody is sitting in a chair reading a book, there are no children running around playing catch, no movement, no life. What purpose do they even serve? Nobody's using them!
Julia Prohaska even worse when you think no one in usa has freaking fences around their houses, yet they keep getting angry when someone steps on "their property".

So... I assume they're talking about the US so... The US has a culture; sure, there are many cultures but it's mostly pretty similar. Europe has a lot of countries with individual cultures. For example, I'm from Finland and eg paying with plastic, taxes, and asking for an ID is totally normal. I think they're only talking about England and France, honestly... Not all of Europe.
Tear Kun I would not say American cultures are pretty similar at all. In fact if you compared a northeast American to a southern American you would most like find more differences then some different European cultures. Some US cultures have more in common with other countries then each other
Matthew Mallon well yeah, I have to agree (I was talking about the US though, not the Americas) But well I think (even when talking about the Americas) they have more "quirks" in common than European countries.
Tear Kun no, by Americans I meant United States citizens(we call ourselves just Americans). I can tell you as a north eastern United States citizens having been to Canada, and Europe there are more similarities with some other countries then to other parts of United States, especially Canada but still to an extent some European countries. You have to understand despite US being one country we are the size of many European countries which has lead to extreme differences in different areas of United States.
Matthew Mallon yes I do know that but the thing is: -it is one country -the laws are similar (not the same, but similar) -the things I, as a European consider strange stretches throughout the US You see, the things they said here apply to most of the US, but the things that they said about Europe doesn't apply to even a half. It's mostly just singular countries.
On the topic of gym clothes, one traveler told me that he's never seen so many fat people yet so many runners and cyclists in his life. "What's with you Americans?! You're either fat or a world class athlete! Why can't you just be normal?!" Mayhap the truth is, American fitness is polarized? Despite their obesity rates they still win a strange amount of gold medals...

I'm from Africa 1.I can't get over how weird it is that many Americans find breastfeeding offensive. 😕 The fact that people perceive a mother feeding her child as sexual or indecent is so weird. 2.Also tipping is weird. Where I'm from almost nobody does that. You pay for your food, full stop. It's not the customer's responsibility to ensure the worker's wages. 3. Here a lot of people call their fathers Daddy well into adulthood, which I understand a lot of Americans find childish or sexual (again with the sexualisation of everything). I don't understand the sense in calling your father Daddy for years and abruptly changing it to Dad for no reason. It's like changing an established title out of the blue. Especially since to a child, their parent's title pretty much takes the place of a name. So suddenly switching the name from Daddy to Dad because for some reason one thinks it's childish, yeah that's weird.
Cynthia K. I agree with all of your points. It is quite strange, and I’m American. I literally get the weirdest looks when I breastfeed my daughter in public and I’m expected to “coverup”. I don’t think I’ve every really noticed the daddy point. I still call my father daddy, and my husband calls his father daddy as well. Nonetheless, it’s all very interesting
It takes very little effort to use a cloth or something else to cover your breast(s). 1. before anyone attacks me. I find it perfectly natural to breast feed and agree that it is a Woman's right to do so. Just don't make a spectacle out of it for argument's sake. Cary a cloth or something else, nurse when your child is hungry. Don't whip out the breasts because you are entitled or not equipped with a simple cloth, blanket, etc. Or find a discreet location to feed your infant. 2. Don't get pissed if you are not even making the slightest attempt at being discreet and you see some reactions. Sometimes things catch us off guard and there is a delay in processing visual data. If there is a close by changing station - do you change your baby at the station or on a park bench surrounded by 100 people? And before you give me flack about this. I am a father of a daughter who has had multiple changing experiences in public where there was no "family bathroom" or changing station in the men's room - I always seemed to make it work. 3. I find most Mothers want to be discreet. But there are a select few that are just not thinking. Or even more rare, you have a few out of millions that just want to press buttons.
Craig Chastain I do cover while in public, but that’s to make other people comfortable. My daughter on the other hand usually comes from under the cloth, which is very light I might add, sweating profusely as she is very warm natured. I personally don’t think it’s fair to have to resort to feeding my daughter in a restroom. I’m only feeding, not swinging my breast around for all to see. I highly doubt this would be a topic of discussion if breast weren’t overly specialized. I mean it is literally why women have breast in the first place.
Alisha Briggs I agree. That is what the glands are meant to do. Mother or child should not be be meant to be inconvenienced when doing something natural. There are always a scant few in the bunch that want to try to make some point and bring it in the eyes of the (social) media." I CAN do this so I WILL do this! I want to stir the pot" "And if you you have any reaction, I will cry bloody murder!" Again, I'm a daddy, I know how it all works and we as dads have our own challenges - especially when our daughters start to grow up but your kid still has to pee when we go shopping without Mom. Painful. I am so not trying to be a jerk about this topic. I have sat next to nursing mothers on plains, trains, all sorts of restaurants and other public spaces. 99% It goes perfectly fine - I don't stare at you, you don't whip out the tatas all willy nilly, it's copacetic.
Im danish, I really like mayo with my fries too :) A thing I find strange is that americans seem to eat ketchup with EVERYTHING! And if it something new they are bit unsure about, jsut pour some ketchup on it.
Another thing I find weird is how Americans refer to European countries by the wrong name. They still call the Netherlands "Holland" and Czechia "The Czech Republic".
What I find weird is people go to another country and find certain things weird. For fuck sake, you go to another country, you are bound to find people doing things differently.
In the UK we have ONE rate of VAT for each particular product, so were we to say, price a can of cola, it would be the same price in every single shop of that name in the UK. The States however are StateS, every one of which has different laws on local things, like how much sales tax they use. So that would mean FIFTY different prices, on ONE can of cola in ONE chain of shops. Probably why you have to add the tax yourself.
I agree thats it dumb. But the real reason its done like that is to trick people into buying more stuff. people often underestimate just how much they are actually spending (with tax added at the end) when they go shopping. Everything in the US is about making as much money as you can by any means possible. The older I get and the more I discover about the underhanded crap my country likes to pull, the more I am disappointed/angry about it all.
I agree. I went to England and Germany some years ago, and things are so much easier when you count the tax as part of the price. $5 tag = $5 paid. Makes more sense than $5 tag = $5.35ish paid. It's one of the things I wish we'd do more like you.
Here in Brazil we do it Euro style, the price tag is final price, however, in protests against our high taxes, some entrepreneurs make liquidations with the final prices being without any taxes, waaaaay cheaper, and it is a good thing to know how much you are "giving" to your government! Maybe that is why Europeans have such high taxes and protest against "austerity measures"… you actually think that the government have to do everything for you, don't you?
In Europe, tipping isn’t expected to pay half your salary. It’s just an addition to your salary, and restaurants split the total tip at the end of the month.
That’s kinda weird considering you can choose to tip one waiter/waitress more or less than another if you liked or disliked their service. Kinda encourages waiter to be better lol
We do know that especially we know Scotland , Northern Ireland we know is in the UK but we consider it Ireland and honestly nobody remembers wales exists
What I find weird about Americans is how fat the woman are but they still wear the gym clothes mentioned. It would not hurt these bulbous women to try to use the gym cloths for their intent and exercise. Are fat women considered attractive in the United States of America? They are enormously wide.
@@indridcold8433 fat people are something else, some are self aware and are trying to get fit, others have given up, and some like to act like feminists. Some fat women have accepted being fat and are triggered that everyone else is skinny (apparently the "before & after" pictures are fat shaming)

These sweeping generalisations of "Europeans" are absolutely hilarious! You do realise there are 50 countries in Europe, 50 different cultures and at least 24 different languages?
American here. Gonna put it bluntly, your wrong dude. We don’t generalize. We know that Europe is made up of several countries and that each country is unique. We’re not stupid. We say Europe because it’s a landmass. “My friend is from Europe!” Your friend comes from the continent called Europe. It’s a small landmass so we use the name of the continent. It’s a small place, so you don’t really have to be specific. This is usually followed by: “Where in Europe?” “Germany, somewhere north of Munich” “Oh, that’s cool. Does he speak much English?” “No, not really. We’ve had trouble communicating in the past. I’ve certainly learned a bit of German because of him” Now you may be thinking, those arrogant Americans. Why are they asking if he speaks English!? Are they going to force him to speak English!?!? REEEE! No, he’s asking if he speaks English so he knows wether or not they can communicate, not because the inability to speak English is bad Europe is a landmass. Europe is made of lots of unique countries. Switzerland is associated with watches, the alps, and chocolate Germany is associated with beer, old towns, their harsh sounding language (ist nicht gemeim... it just sounds weird to us)...and yes, their history during WW2 and WW1. We aren’t gonna forget that, and unfortunately that comes to a lot of people minds when they hear germany (not me though. It’s a beautiful country) Britain is associated with Kings and queens, london, and tea We say England when we talk about Britain. Grow some skin and a backbone, it’s not an insult. We know England has multiple countries All in all, we’re not arrogant. We’re not ignorant. We know Europe is multiple countries, we’re not stupid Reading some of these comments hurt, because I know that they are false. But still people believe this I’m not going to say that America is perfect and innocent because it’s not. But we’re not clueless. And calling every single one of stupid for living here, that makes me start to doubt wether or not people like you have actually been to America. Btw, your generalizing us. @@Kay_213_ America is one country. Europe is not. Sorry, but you're wrong. All the other stuff you ranted about with insults isn't relevant to my comment i'm afraid.
I'm sure if I had been born American I would be proud of being so... But I'm European and therefore I'm proud of being European. I think that's a lesson each one of us has to learn, we love our home, it doesn't matter how crappy it is, we are bound to love it, which doesn't mean we don't acknowledge its flaws. I've a lot of respect to the US as a nation, even though it has its flaws, but my heart is Spanish and European. I've learnt Spanish history, I've lived Spanish culture, I speak Spanish and that weights, it doesn't matter that we are a bit of a mess (I don't want to continue over there, I'm not a fan of some Spanish culture marks) I'm proud of being Spanish and I'm proud of being European, as proud as I would be of being American if I was born there. That's why arguing which place is better is a bit nonsensical, they're different and I know we each love some things and hate others, the fact that we find each other Strange doesn't mean we're worse or better but different in the way we do things, we need real opposition to choose not to prefer our country. At least thats what I think. When I went to America, I found strange the amount of grease used in food, I mourned fish and specially vegetables and fruits, but I went to Alaska, it must be very different in other places.

Yeah, The United States has 75% of the population of Europe and has about 3x the land mass(not accurate just guessing) places can be very remote and cut off from each other and struggle influencing others. So you end up having a large country that is very diverse in thought, manners, accents and customs. A lot of these things tend to be fairly general, but California is very different from Kansas or Florida in many ways.
Batman Bin Suparman yes. And at least cashiers have common sense here so we at least know when someone is old enough to get cigarettes and not show their ID because its dumb.
You are very naive if you think kids buy cigarets. They are not allowed to, they still can many places - it is getting better, a lot better, but its still pretty common that teenagers who are too young to buy it can get both cigarets and alcohol.
B1gLupu Could you elaborate? In my country (Venezuela) we're used to tipping as a gesture of gratitude. Like "hey, thanks for the service bro, get a beer or something". How do you see it? :P
Daniel Gonzalez In america, business can pay less than minumun wage due to tipping being such an established part of the service culture. American labor laws are a joke. It goes from a gift you can give from excelent service to a mandatory feed.
It’s an incentive for the waiters to work better than they normally would. You do realize that if the waiter or waitress doesn’t earn minimum wage in tips than the restaurant must supplement the rest.
Dylan Whitaker That doesnt make any sense. Its meant to be a sign of gratitude for excelent service, but greedy business owners use it as a deductable from pay. The system is horribly scewed in the favor of the employer.

Get it?
And circumcision being a standard part of child birth like vaccination, most Europeans find that weird.

American thing Europeans find weird:
Acting like Europe is a country and comparing the USA to Europe like they're comparing 2 countries
EU is like United States of Europe without a constitution. Just a matter of time till USE happens
Europeans acting like all the states of America are the same... There Re 50 sperate states, all with different personalities..... I know this, I've been to 38 states.
the us is practicaly the same size of Europe thats why we talk about it like its a country
These comments are offended
Kev Masengale but in perspective the differences between 2 countries in Europe is significantly more than 2 US states.
The main things weird about the U.S are
1 Health care
2 The gun laws
3 Drinking laws, 21wtf

Europe is literally filled with churches and not any type of churches we have really big ones and most of the time the cathedral is the biggest building in the city or town and can be seen from everywhere
The castles are also large buildings.
A cathedral wouldn't be the biggest building in a town because if it had a cathedral it would make it a city
@@Georgegerrard_ In a city, the only building as large as the cathedral is the castle, or the palace.

The weirdest thing about US? They don't use metric system...
Wasil ikr that is weird
We don't have to.
kmsharley75 Yes, you've got this illogical and impractical "imperial" system.
Heh, yeah. If they think Europeans' teeth look unpleasant, don't let them anywhere near Japanese. >_
only in the UK*
Don't make the mistake of mixing up "european" and a certain country. In Germany it is normal to have good teeth, but we don't whiten them often
Marzelmusik I haven't really seen many people with bad teeth for my entire 27 years of life in the UK. I think it's more of a diehard stereotype from a 100 years or so ago.

That's why European waiters suck. No incentive to give their best at their work!
Tom Maika What does that even mean? How could a waiter get better? I thought their solely purpose just to takes order and deliver the food, I mean this is not a fanservice cafe like maid cafe or whatever weeb shit.

Things that I find weird about the USA:
1. HUGE gaps between toilets..
2. The pricetag does not include tax so you have to kind of guess what you’ll have to pay
3. Not actually wanting to know how I am when saying ‘hi, how are you?’
4. Having to give a 15-20% tip, like no??
5. Your flag is everywhere
6, you can buy guns in walmart
7. But surprise eggs are illegal
8. You don’t use the metric system???1?1?1?
9. There are advertisements for prescription drugs
10. The bread is so sweet
How are you?" Person 1 "Not bad, hey did you did you see the game last night?"

Joseph Allen it is a chocolate egg that has a toy inside it
For Euro travelers: The person asking for your ID likely knows you’re old enough, however if they serve alcohol, tobacco, or other age-restricted products without requiring you to show an ID, they could be fired.
I'm now on vacation in America and here is actual things that I have naturally thought were weird:

2. That guns are somehow patriotic

4. The waiter keeps refilling my water and its starting to make me anxious
A fair dose of nationalism can be healthy
I walked through a county courthouse square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there
I said, your old courthouse is kinda run down
He said, naw, it'll do for our little town
I said, your old flagpole has leaned a little bit
And that's a ragged old flag you got hanging on it
He said, have a seat, and I sat down
Is this the first time you've been to our little town?
I said, I think it is
He said, I don't like to brag
But we're kinda proud of that ragged old flag
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there when
Washington took it across the Delaware
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing say can you see
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams
And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the texas flag, but she waved on though
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg
And the south wind blew hard on that ragged old flag
On Flanders field in World War one
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun
She turned blood red in World War Two
She hung limp and low a time or two
She was in Korea and Vietnam
She went where she was sent by Uncle Sam
She waved from our ships upon the Briny foam
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home
In her own good land here she's been abused
She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused
And the government for which she stands
Is scandalized throughout the land
And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more
So we raise her up every morning
We take her down every night
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold her up right
On second thought, I do like to brag
'Cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag
Captain Obvious a better education system can be healthy to help you spell dose

What's weird about your tipping culture is that it's mandatory, and not something extra for actually good service. It's just been used as an excuse to pay people less than the minimum wage because tips are also income
mathijs van der poel
I kinda wish the tipping thing was less in the US (and some restaurants are getting rid of tipping) but it also kinda makes sense.
I just refuse to tip, over there, easy solution.
Give the people decent wages, I refuse to support their slavery.

Tipping is not mandatory here in America no matter what people think with very few exceptions. It is assumed, and something I have always done, but at no point when dining do I feel I have to do so. I give money to the server based upon how good the service was to me...good service gets better tips, bad service gets a penny. Simple.

3. Yes, they're kinda poopy, but at least we don't have ridiculous taxes.
4. This is a result of government intervention. The more the government gives money to students, the more colleges charge.

How much do you know about American states?
You cant compare the whole continent of Europe to America... every country has its own customs and culture and ways to look at the world
You can argue the same for the 50 states.
BadgerCheese94 but you are only one country. Russia has 85 states and it still one country’s

What I learned in my travels across Europe was if you want to tip you basically just leave the change.
Europe is not just one country with all people having the same culture, language,...
That is what Americans have to understand!
We are a great and colourful mix of cultures that together are magnificent. "The world is beautiful because it's various" italian proverb

Dude you just blew my mind and I live in America

Right?! So many times I’ve heard, “I’d love to visit Europe one day”
germany is still trying to change that
Jacob- I've seen so many comments like yours.
Ma davvero?

Some US cultures have more in common with other countries then each other
Matthew Mallon well yeah, I have to agree (I was talking about the US though, not the Americas)
But well I think (even when talking about the Americas) they have more "quirks" in common than European countries.
Matthew Mallon you just said north (turns out you said northeast but I didn't notice that) and south so that threw me off haha
Matthew Mallon yes I do know that but the thing is:
-it is one country
-the laws are similar (not the same, but similar)
-the things I, as a European consider strange stretches throughout the US
You see, the things they said here apply to most of the US, but the things that they said about Europe doesn't apply to even a half. It's mostly just singular countries.

1.I can't get over how weird it is that many Americans find breastfeeding offensive.
It is quite strange, and I’m
American. I literally get the weirdest looks when I breastfeed my daughter in public and I’m expected to “coverup”. I don’t think I’ve every really noticed the daddy point. I still call my father daddy, and my husband calls his father daddy as well. Nonetheless, it’s all very interesting
Everything you said is very true. There is a lot of over specializing things over here :/.
Alisha Briggs
I agree. That is what the glands are meant to do. Mother or child should not be be meant to be inconvenienced when doing something natural. There are always a scant few in the bunch that want to try to make some point and bring it in the eyes of the (social) media." I CAN do this so I WILL do this! I want to stir the pot" "And if you you have any reaction, I will cry bloody murder!"
Again, I'm a daddy, I know how it all works and we as dads have our own challenges - especially when our daughters start to grow up but your kid still has to pee when we go shopping without Mom. Painful. I am so not trying to be a jerk about this topic. I have sat next to nursing mothers on plains, trains, all sorts of restaurants and other public spaces. 99% It goes perfectly fine - I don't stare at you, you don't whip out the tatas all willy nilly, it's copacetic.

Having tax be added after the original price on sign is just plain dumb, I don't want to have to bring a calculator every time I go shopping
Green Guy
Once you get used to it you can usually calculate how much. For something that's $1 there's usually >10 cents in tax
Elaine B
Wow that's pretty cool, I'll keep that in mind if I ever visit the UK (I want too but I'm broke)
I live in Pennsylvania and i pretty much just assume everything is going to be a dollar more then it is.
Seeing $5 on a tag, going to pay for it and having to pay more than that $5. What the hell, America?
So you're saying the British STILL don't understand no taxation without representation??? lol, just a little Revolutionary humor there for ya.
Trust us that we dont like it either but we the people dont have a decision on that.
It’s called tax oml. It’s the common way to pay for roads, teachers, ect.
In Europe, tipping isn’t expected to pay half your salary. It’s just an addition to your salary, and restaurants split the total tip at the end of the month.
In USA people are much more cordial without being annoying. That’s my stereotype after living in California.
That’s kinda weird considering you can choose to tip one waiter/waitress more or less than another if you liked or disliked their service. Kinda encourages waiter to be better lol

Your friend comes from the continent called Europe. It’s a small landmass so we use the name of the continent.
It’s a small place, so you don’t really have to be specific.
This is usually followed by:
“Where in Europe?”
“Germany, somewhere north of Munich”
“Oh, that’s cool. Does he speak much English?”
“No, not really. We’ve had trouble communicating in the past. I’ve certainly learned a bit of German because of him”
Now you may be thinking, those arrogant Americans. Why are they asking if he speaks English!? Are they going to force him to speak English!?!? REEEE!
No, he’s asking if he speaks English so he knows wether or not they can communicate, not because the inability to speak English is bad
Europe is a landmass. Europe is made of lots of unique countries.
Switzerland is associated with watches, the alps, and chocolate
Germany is associated with beer, old towns, their harsh sounding language (ist nicht gemeim... it just sounds weird to us)...and yes, their history during WW2 and WW1. We aren’t gonna forget that, and unfortunately that comes to a lot of people minds when they hear germany (not me though. It’s a beautiful country)
Britain is associated with Kings and queens, london, and tea
We say England when we talk about Britain. Grow some skin and a backbone, it’s not an insult. We know England has multiple countries
All in all, we’re not arrogant. We’re not ignorant. We know Europe is multiple countries, we’re not stupid
Reading some of these comments hurt, because I know that they are false. But still people believe this
I’m not going to say that America is perfect and innocent because it’s not. But we’re not clueless.
And calling every single one of stupid for living here, that makes me start to doubt wether or not people like you have actually been to America.
Btw, your generalizing us. Ya hypocrite
Now that that is said, I’d like to apologize on behalf of all Americans that have actually been rude to you, and have left a bad impression. I can garuntee that we are not all like that. You ran into a douchebag who thought he was a sole representation of America. He was not
I got one, know that not all Europeans are as rude as you. Your countries and people are wonderful, and I look forward to learning more about Europe
I have a feeling you don’t want to have anything to do with America. That’s fine...but don’t think that because you think America is bad. It isn’t
I hope you consider what I said and choose to re-evaluate what you know about America
Or remain in your echo chamber, fine.
Hallo aus America, Es ist wunderbar Hier ich versichern du
@@Kay_213_ America is one country. Europe is not. Sorry, but you're wrong. All the other stuff you ranted about with insults isn't relevant to my comment i'm afraid.
I'm American, and I HATE it when there's a ton of commercials!
That might just be the most mature and insightful comment here
alejandro ojeda this might be the most educated comment I’ve seen
I wish more people were like you and not all brain washed idiots. Thank you for being civil and intelligent. We really need more people like you around everywhere. Thank you!!!!
Oh look, a European I don't dislike. Thank you for being sane and non-condescending about our nations' differences. You seem to be a rarity.
Yeah, The United States has 75% of the population of Europe and has about 3x the land mass(not accurate just guessing) places can be very remote and cut off from each other and struggle influencing others. So you end up having a large country that is very diverse in thought, manners, accents and customs. A lot of these things tend to be fairly general, but California is very different from Kansas or Florida in many ways.
um no kids cant buy cigarettes in europe, we have ALOT of commercials, our cashiers are nice too
Batman Bin Suparman yes.
Krydolph i know they can get them in specific places but he was talking about regular supermarkets
Well y'all should come to Italy cuz nobody in here is nice...
In Denmark they don't give a damn, kids start's drinking/smoking when they are 14 these days
Pay your workers ffs, tipping is moronic.
B1gLupu Oh, I see. Tipping becomes the opposite of what it's meant to be. Kinda sad :/
Dylan Whitaker That doesnt make any sense. Its meant to be a sign of gratitude for excelent service, but greedy business owners use it as a deductable from pay. The system is horribly scewed in the favor of the employer.
