  • Home Affairs Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi has published the latest list of critical skills that are in short supply in South Africa. In total, 101 occupation codes as regulated by the South African Qualifications Authority, have been included. Among the scarce skills required are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths teachers. Suitably qualified foreign nationals can work on a special visa as civil engineers, quantity surveyors, and naval architects among others.
Xpat Web Immigration Manager, Moeketsi Seboko, elaborates on the issue.

As South African qualified physics and natural science,I wish I can be employed by department of education to prove that we do have competence teachers in science not students teachers

Then why don't you do a post graduate certificate in education and apply for the posts. In my township we struggled to get a physics teacher. The problem is some people don't want to go to the townships or rural areas

It's a shame that people like you sit idle when the average physics teacher in the country scrapped through their matric. Yet we expect them to teach the kids something 😑

You are right. It's Political Science. Why have the ruling party not built a competent education sector in the last 25 years? There is a reason.

As I always say: this Anc government have been sleeping from 94, n they are being advised by useless professionals to foresee the future n as a third world country, which 1st world country are we following as an example?. These oldies in government are only thinking about their retirement not the future of our country. Vote them out 2024.

Government inefficiency is the cause for the education sector to not produce the skills that SA needs.

Mokgethi forgive me if i spelled your name wrongly. South Africa was not born yesterday. Why didn't you make provisions for those scarce skills to be a matter of priority for South Africans first. Why must South Africa rely on immigrants to bring in scarce skills into our country? Government majors on minor matters and that which is major especially that which empowers and capacitates the economy, government makes light of it. What was the wait for. Right now it is quite clear that Home Affairs had decided to keep Zimbabweans permanently right in SA by reason of this outcome. It's all about immigrants. WHY? WHY? I hope you're not bringing Zimbabweans here. If black South Africans don't have skills we have white South Africans to do that.

Civil Engineering cannot be a scarce skill when our cousins are sitting at home with their degrees. This list is utter bull crap, we must reject this list as South Africans.

Zimbabweans are not the only learned african people, , we have plenty east and central african doctors in our hospitals, why specifically zimbabweans dont be biased, first thing is to get the education system right, where can one go with 30% pass mark.

🤣🤣. Now you speak like all the Zimbabweans are eligible for the Critical skills mentioned by the minister!!! Just know that your own fellow citizens who are qualified to do those jobs are going overseas, so don't be surprised when your Mayor will be a guy from Somalia or India.

in those critical skills areas SAs don't meet the requirements we only except black people , we have our reasons and don't ask us why.
most are very judgmental when we the people push our government to act the right way for us. This Mzantsi we know how to make democracy work for us.
they must stop judging and take a few notes .
