    I'm old enough to remember as a kid, talking to "old geezers" who told stories of riding wagon trains across the Great Plains and the West! I can remember my grandmother telling me how scared she and her mother were in the wagon train heading East from California, worrying about being attacked by Native Americans. "Old geezers" are precious connections to a forgotten past, many with incredible information and data you can't get anywhere else!! Talk with them, treat them well and kindly, and make connections with them every chance you get. Learn everything you can from them, because when they are gone, they are gone!!
    Thank you, Ed Smith, for sharing your great knowledge and stories with us, many of us greatly appreciate it!
    And thank you Barry T. for bringing Ed and this information to the World!

    Berry, I am so grateful for finding your channel on Christmas Eve. Watching your shows has been a time warp of the last 55 years of learning from engine race car drivers, engine builders, and chassis builders here in Arizona. My 45 years of SEMA teaching on stage has me concerned about the automotive Aftermarket Performance and Restyling of young enthusiasts and entrepreneurs. I would like to have a conversation with you on the comments Ed and Robert said of the lack of information passed to the next generation. I am one of those old guys on the idea to inform.

    Why kind of damage does a Dyno actually do ? I get in my vehicle , let her warm up and I go to top speed once a day , full 5500 rpm hang ther till the trans says no…..is that as bad as Dyno runs? I thought you could put 100,000 miles on the Dyno ………love real videos , this has been an education. Thanks gents

    454 will always make more power with 38 or 39 degrees of timing. At 32 or 34 there will be power left on table for sure.

    spec motors are also able to be bought back by chevy if you win with it ! they used to be super cheap to buy and that was one of the reasons instead of an alternator they should take some of those new wheel generators toyota just started using as long as the wheels are turning each wheel will make power.

    • @stevenbean9706

      @@BarryTsGarage i havnt read anything as of yet saying they cant use them , one thing i was taught growing up its only illegal if they specifically tell you you cant do it and the rule book is only a book that tells you what you cant do not what you can do. its fairly new stuff i can see them gaining a bit of an advantage using them. they might want to look into it ive seen them generate some good power. havnt had any recalls on them as of yet so it seems to work. i say its worth a look we used to use toyota starters to make cheap gear reduction mini starters toyota engineers are great its the lean manufacturing i disagree with.

    Noooooooo... never say old geezer to anybody.. although it was said in jest that's just hurtful and it was a mistake... being called old is demeaning.. Ed has forgotten more than any of us will ever know.. and I'm going to apologize for that young whippersnapper.. he knows not what he speaks.. every young person needs to know that we have the same brain and enthusiasm we had when we were 14 until we leave this life... Ed's Talent is immeasurable.. that said this is a great informative video with two talented professionals!

    You need to go see how they dyno a race engine, or even a street strip engine! Watching a passenger car engine is kinda a waste! You need to see how the carb is tuned, how they adjust timing, how they check & adjust the valve train! Yes he got the rings & cam broken in, & made sure it’s running ok, but that’s about 1/4 the work that goes into a competition engine! Even the ones they are familiar with! There is tons of power to be had! Also a dyno reads torque, horsepower is just a calculation! Torque x rpm, divided by 5252 = horsepower!

    • @BarryTsGarage
      @BarryTsGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would love to do another video with a full on race engine, however, racers are kind of private and not normally that willing to show their stuff… Maybe I will get lucky with someone that is willing to show the world!!!
