I'm glad I got to see you get blown away by this movie. No one ever expects it to be THAT good. Halfway through my first watch, I realized this movie was made by people who loved comic books in general and spider-man in particular. You can feel the care they took when making this to get it right.
Fun fact: the way this movie is animated is in a way that, no matter what frame you pause on, it will always be a perfect image. All "motion blur" is actually hand crafted frames using old comic/manga techniques to portray motion. It's a VERY unique way of animating and I hope its copied in other films!
One thing you can appreciate with Spider-Man is that anyone can wear the mask, that was the intention that Stan Lee had so people who actually care about spider-man know that their are all kinds characters from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures who wear the mask in different universes.
I will always love that Miles defeated Kingpin by putting his own personal touch on a move that his family taught him. Just a great way of encapsulating his arc of learning how to be himself while still holding his family and their expectations close to his heart.
Alot of ppl went into this with low expectations, I didn't even wanna watch. Then I seen it, and it easily became a top 5 marvel movie for me. Their animation is wild. Defo need more animated movies and shows from Marvel. I say DCs animated universe needs competition.
Miles Morales is most definitely not a race-swap, he's his own character that works as Peter's student. This is by far the best Spiderman movie so far, I can't wait for the next one in-universe.
25:00 yeah, they're not really clear on whether Jeff knows what Aaron got up to, but it's implied that the two of them went in different directions, one became a cop, one became evil Batman, and they love each other but they can't see eye to eye and they just grew apart. And you can see in this scene that Jeff just hates that distance and that now his brother is gone forever. It's heartbreaking.
Fun fact: Peter B. Parker is meant to be "our" Spiderman. In all the other dimension spider people, their brands are all different (look at the different versions of Coca-Cola on their billboards) except for Peter B. Parker. His is actually Coca-Cola like us.
Peter Parker losing his Uncle Ben in any incarnation is tragic, but seeing Miles lose his uncle was especially devastating. Why is losing a family member so pivotal and necessary for a superhero's development?
The superhuman character needs something to happen to pierce their emotional armor or else they wouldn't be relatable enough, and family is something everyone can understand
But also as someone else or someones elses pointed out... losing someone like that is a key driving force behind the moulding of Spider-Man. That's the first loss any Spider-Man ever gets - their family. The inevitability of casualties is something not handled a lot in superhero media. No matter how good you are, you will always have casualties... eventually. Even in the real world, you can't save everybody... and that's heavy asfff. Saving as many people as you can is the goal. Only one who can pull yourself back up after those traumatic moments is you.
It's brutal and superhero themed but this movie is still about growing up. The contrast from beginning to end shows how everything he's going through makes him a better Spider-man. Then you see Fisk and he lost his family so he wants back what he lost. It's a nuts plan that won't work in the end but he almost gets them back. In that moment though he hasn't changed at all. Yeah it's different versions of his wife and kid but they're all seeing the same thing from him and none of them want anything to do with this version of him. That's why Peter and other heroes with tragic origin stories are heroes. Everyone loses people, everyone grieves and wishes their lives could be different but what matters is what you do with that pain and longing. Do you try and prevent other people from feeling that pain? Do you change yourself to reach towards your goals? Or do you lash out in anger making as many of other people suffer like you're suffering? It's not every hero's journey but it gets used a lot because of how powerful it is. You get a hero not trying to enrich themselves because they've already lost what matters and they can't replace it. It's about being a hero to spare others pain they live with everyday.
EASILY one of if not the BEST animated Marvel films to date! 💯 From the comic like visuals to where you can pause at any moment and it looks like it's ripped straight from a comic (Some moments even hyper saturated with color and comic aesthetic) to the beautifully crafted soundtrack to give us the feel that we are viewing through Miles's perspective as it fits his character along with his style and swagger. His character growth from feeling like he doesn't belong and he's not cut out for the responsibility and challenge to gaining the confidence to take the leap of faith into the mantle of Spider-Man is AMAZING! 10/10 movie, I can't wait for Across the Spiderverse 💥🕸
You should read the introduction of Miles Morales comics. The death of Peter Parker was insane, and Miles definitely was anything but derivative. This movie does his origin story justice in my opinion, though I'm glad for the changes they made in the retelling.
The fact you were kinda digging in the spider peeps for leaving miles was kinda weird to me. Miles hasn’t shown to be competent in his abilities yet, which makes sense as he only got them two days ago. What Peter B. was saying was that the Main Spider-Man of this universe for 10 years was killed by this guy. Miles isn’t ready to do that. If he can’t control his powers, he’s a liability to himself and the others there. Peter B didn’t want this 15 year old kid to be murdered, and feels like him giving away his life instead will give him some closure to how bad his life got. Just wanted to share my thoughts.
Peter B. Parker, objectively, isn't the best person to make that decision, though. He's already made it clear (and continues even after Miles proves himself) that he's essentially using this scenario of "someone has to destroy it" as a way to commit suicide. Someone at that point has shown that they're not entirely capable of making rational decision.
Peter B was ready to throw his life away also ? When he had an entire Universe of his own unprotected…just because he didn’t want to return to his reality of shambles. Ready to throw his life away for Miles’s..Seems like a Hypocrite if u ask me
@@ShadowyFox_86 I would argue that making a decision to throw his own life away is one thing, but not wanting to throw Miles' life away shows that he was still very rational and in his depression still had the capacity to think about the well being of others. The reality was that Miles wasn't ready yet and until he was, he would be no match for Kingpin.
A thing few people notice. Olivia continued to work for Kingpin even after she knew that people would disintegrate if they entered a foreign dimension, meaning that her "you can get all the families you want" was her nudging him into doing it. He might have been the man behind everything and she was the instigator of this entire thing.
Miles is a great character. He is the perfect example of the right way to have representation. He is his own awesome character without replacing Peter Parker or taking away from him. He’s not a copy of Peter. He’s a well-fleshed out character with a completely different story and personality. I’m really looking forward to seeing Miles in the mcu
3:35 the visual design of this movie is unbelievable. You can freeze the movie at any point and every frame looks like a comic panel. It's gorgeous. Technology is advanced enough now that these studios should take care to put something unique and worthwhile into their films. I was impressed with how Peanuts was a 3d movie that still looked very much like the old cartoons. Lord and Miller have been involved in a ton of projects that did animation in a different way that serves the world of the story. Not just this movie, but also the Lego Movie, and also Mitchells Versus the Machines, blending regular 3d with the main characters YTP style inserts
to answer your question about how they are having trouble with these villians, miles universe naturally has stronger versions of the spiderman villians
A handful of voice actors would go on to portray live-action characters in Marvel Studios Phase 4. For instance, Bryan Tyree Henry who voiced Miles’ father Jefferson would portray Phastos in the Eternals. Hailee Steinfeld, the voice behind Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, would portray Kate Bishop/Hawkeye II. There are two sequels on the way. One coming this year is Across the Spider-Verse. Next year we’re getting Beyond the Spider-Verse. Oscar Isaac voiced Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 in the post credit scene, and he’s gonna have a prominent role in Across the Spider-Verse. That’s also where we’ll meet Jessica Drew voiced by Issa Rae. There’s a Spider-Woman spinoff in the works with Gwen and Jessica expected to appear. They also plan to bring in Cindy Moon/Silk.
my favourite trivia from this movie is the way Miles is animated. he has a lower framerate at the beginning of the movie than the end. his animation becomes smoother over the course of the movie as he grows into himself. "his room mate is supposed to be like Ned?" other way around. Tom Holland Spider-Man stole that dynamic from comic Miles.
I've got a lot to say about this movie, but I won't bog you down with a whole article. Instead, I'll just say that there are only four movies I've paid to see twice in the theatre. This is one of the only movies I've ever seen that I would have gladly paid to see it a third time.
I remember watching it in theaters in 2018 dressed up as Gwen. I'm so glad it became so popular that people love Miles & Gwen. I can't wait for the sequel and hopefully watch it with my best friend and our group.
One of the best movies I've ever seen, and I've seen a ton. I don't even put it in the "box" of animated movies because it is so far beyond even most live-action movies. The presentation of every point of view, every angle, style, music, and story was all incredible. I am SO looking forward to the next ones.
Ouuuu the foreshadowing for the next movie during Uncle Aaron death scene where you were saying how it has to happen, then losing someone and it doesn’t change when they try to stop it
Miles Morales is his own separate character and not just a race swapped Peter Parker and his introduction was done beautifully. And that’s part of why he actually works so well. THIS is how you do it right 🥲
27:00 About Miles Invisibility and electric powers, while he has those qualities Peter Parker doesn't, the latter's spider strength is still more than twice as strong as Miles. So that evens them out in terms of matchup.
This is by far my favorite Spider-Man movie, but I am also a major fan of animated films simply because there is so much you can do that live action cannot
16:50 not only do they make a big deal about the bagel, but when he throws it and hits that scientist in the face, the comic hit doesn't say Bonk or Wham, it says Bagel!
i feel the same about race-swapping and "passing the torch" characters to carry-on the legacy of a superhero, so long as they are interesting characters, and Miles Morales definitely is an interesting character, then it doesnt matter. in fact, if done right, like in this movie, "passing the torch" plotlines offer a lot in terms of character conflict and devlopment, "am i good enough?" kinda stuff.
I'm actually watching this now and only finally noticing some strong vibes with Aunt May when Miles goes back to see her. Reminds me a lot of another character named Madame Web (actually they just released a planned movie for her so I dont wanna spoil much) but an older lady patiently waiting in the center of her web (patterned-room) for a Spider-Man to come to her for help...holy crap how did I miss that!?
Really enjoyed seeing your initial skepticism (it does I suppose have a little slow start) to total enjoyment of this film. This is a masterpiece for Spider-Man, in my opinion. Just hearing some of the music gets me all emotional again - that's when you know the film hit hard.
I'm pretty sure that the reason his dad says I love you and wants it back is cause he's a cop. He could die any day wants to make sure the last words between them are positive.
When Peter B. Parker was talking to MJ at Kingpin's party, he wasn't talking about money when he said "bread". He was referring to kids. Remember Peter B. Parker said the MJ in his dimension wanted kids but he didn't
This isn't just an amazing Spider-Man movie...it's an amazing movie in general. The animation is so unique and fits the comic book tone so well. The music is perfect. The story is terrific. Great voice acting, great action, great pacing. It's just so well done. It takes a superhero character that is extremely popular and somehow puts a new, unique twist on it. This movie is just so damn refreshing and outstanding. The video game was also great. The story has parts that you can sort of pick up on before they happen, and it isn't the longest game, but it's still really fun. Miles Morales is just a damn good character. Easily one of the "realest" superheros ever.
I saw this in theatre’s and I don’t remember the Prowler jump scare getting me, but for some reason when I saw it two days later again it got me, to be fair it was extremely loud in the theatre 😂😂. 20:55
ive seen this movie over twenty times, 5 times in the theatres, and it never fails to bring me to sad tears, then immediately happy tears when he takes the leap of faith. i absolutely cant wait for the second one.
"His suit is aiight". That, ladies and gentlemen, is Miguel O'Hara. Spider-man 2099. His suit (which is "aiight") is based on a classic Dia del los Muertos costume. He made it himself.
One of my favorite and one of the best animated films ever made!!!! I regret not seeing this film in theaters but when I did see it eventually, I was blown away. It’s up there in terms of Animation along with films like Akira, The Prince of Egypt, Toy Story, Shrek, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, The Iron Giant, Spirit, How To Train Your Dragon, Fantastic Mr. Fox and countless others more that are among the list of great beautiful and iconic animated films. I can’t wait for the sequel and I was excited when this film got announced but when I found how Hailee Steinfeld is voicing Spider-Gwen, my excitement levels went up to 11 Trillion because I love Hailee Steinfeld and she is the GOAT imo! Also the cinematography is 🙌🏻👌🏻👏🏻💯
When Peter says, "Well I am tired." when talking with Aunt May I swear... I hear a little bit of Tobey Maguire in there and it makes me well up a little.
For the record this isn't a race swap. This is an original character being introduced of a different race than the original IP while at the same time keeping the original character in the IP intact. Frankly it's a perfect example of doing it the right way. Its not just a lazy swap of races with no explanation and they didn't ignore the source material full of different races to pull from like LotR. This is exactly what people mean when they say make an original character and a great example of how to do it.

I had never heard of Miles but this movie was so badass i want to look in to his spider man more. They better do a sequel.
The trailer for the sequel is already out my dude.
@@shirosai615 rly, nice have to find it
So excited for the sequel. I already know it’s going to be just as good or better
I hope you’re right, those are some shaq size shoes to fill.
@@crf122 I heard the people who wrote atla will also be working on the sequel so it should be good especially since atla is a masterpiece.
@@aperson3723 i apologize but what’s atla?
@@crf122 avatar the last airbender
@@aperson3723 I don’t know anything about that except that the movie was ass, from what I heard. You aren’t talking about the movie are you?
Peter Parker losing his Uncle Ben in any incarnation is tragic, but seeing Miles lose his uncle was especially devastating. Why is losing a family member so pivotal and necessary for a superhero's development?
The superhuman character needs something to happen to pierce their emotional armor or else they wouldn't be relatable enough, and family is something everyone can understand
Illuminati
It's a canon event
This is a Sony movie, not a Marvel one.
Lowkey These Bots NEED To Do This Spelling If They Wanna Scam Everybody. /s
@@kaylons huh??? What do u mean bots?
A thing few people notice. Olivia continued to work for Kingpin even after she knew that people would disintegrate if they entered a foreign dimension, meaning that her "you can get all the families you want" was her nudging him into doing it. He might have been the man behind everything and she was the instigator of this entire thing.
I never get tired of you editing yourself into the movie 🤣🤣🤣
I love how popular Miles has become over the years
Miles is a great character.
I love that he said they should make a tmnt movie with this animation because they actually are
to answer your question about how they are having trouble with these villians, miles universe naturally has stronger versions of the spiderman villians
As a new yorker... I have indeed walked around someone laying in the middle of a crosswalk. We see so much we are desensitized lol
This is one of my favourite animated movies of all time. The attention to detail is so damn good. I'm excited for the sequel as well.
Man your laugh is contagious! And all the jokes are on point 😂
my favourite trivia from this movie is the way Miles is animated. he has a lower framerate at the beginning of the movie than the end. his animation becomes smoother over the course of the movie as he grows into himself.
"his room mate is supposed to be like Ned?"
other way around.
I love how his first leap has him falling, but when he takes the second leap they invert the frame so he's rising.
One of the best movies I've ever seen, and I've seen a ton. I don't even put it in the "box" of animated movies because it is so far beyond even most live-action movies. The presentation of every point of view, every angle, style, music, and story was all incredible. I am SO looking forward to the next ones.
I love the Chris pine cameo as Peter Parker, and the fact they had him singing Spidey Christmas songs
He predicted the tmnt movie omg
This is by far my favorite Spider-Man movie, but I am also a major fan of animated films simply because there is so much you can do that live action cannot
16:50 not only do they make a big deal about the bagel, but when he throws it and hits that scientist in the face, the comic hit doesn't say Bonk or Wham, it says Bagel!
The animation in this movie is amazing!
i feel the same about race-swapping and "passing the torch" characters to carry-on the legacy of a superhero, so long as they are interesting characters, and Miles Morales definitely is an interesting character, then it doesnt matter. in fact, if done right, like in this movie, "passing the torch" plotlines offer a lot in terms of character conflict and devlopment, "am i good enough?" kinda stuff.
It is a film you look forward to watching again whilst you are still watching it. A genuine work of art.
Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd
This movie is groundbreaking in every sense of the word. It's the best Spider-Man movie ever.
best animated film of all time
I'm actually watching this now and only finally noticing some strong vibes with Aunt May when Miles goes back to see her. Reminds me a lot of another character named Madame Web (actually they just released a planned movie for her so I dont wanna spoil much) but an older lady patiently waiting in the center of her web (patterned-room) for a Spider-Man to come to her for help...holy crap how did I miss that!?
13:11 they are actually!! not in this exact style, but in a very inspired style! it looks awesome by the way, you should check it out!!
Saw this whole reaction on Patreon! It's great to watch content weeks earlier!!
13:13 bro really foreshadowed a tmnt movie
13:12 as they literally are making a TMNT movie with this animation style
Miles always worked because he was well handled to avoid being just a black Peter Parker. Well done in this movie.
Ironically, when Disney wanted their new take on Peter for the MCU they basically just made a white Miles Morales
@@CC-gy7el yeah, the first movie especially is easy to see it was meant to be Miles.
“They should make a TMNT movie with this kind of animation” 13:11 THE MAN CALLED IT
I just comment the same thing, Now I feel unoriginal😅
@@K.Simpson all good! I just thought of it when he said it. I’m so hyped for the movie
Really enjoyed seeing your initial skepticism (it does I suppose have a little slow start) to total enjoyment of this film. This is a masterpiece for Spider-Man, in my opinion. Just hearing some of the music gets me all emotional again - that's when you know the film hit hard.
Lmfaooo I paused the reaction at the wrong time. You all wide eyed 😂😂 I stopped and died laughing for about 10 minutes 😂😂😂😂
Bro called the new TMNT movie in a similar artstyle lol
13:13
Funny that you mention it, Seth Rogen is producing an animated Ninja Turtles movie with a bunch of Spiderverse artists working on it.
13:13 bro predicted mutant mayham💀
Nah deadass though
I saw this in theatre’s and I don’t remember the Prowler jump scare getting me, but for some reason when I saw it two days later again it got me, to be fair it was extremely loud in the theatre 😂😂. 20:55
16:51 we all know what happens here

ive seen this movie over twenty times, 5 times in the theatres, and it never fails to bring me to sad tears, then immediately happy tears when he takes the leap of faith. i absolutely cant wait for the second one.
“They should make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie with this type of animation” HAVE I GOT SOME NEWS FOR YOU-

If only they knew what this bagel will do 🌚
It really hit the spot
Brooo that’s a fire call😂 TMNT with this animation would be movie of the year easily
13:11 the fact that they are making one with this animation 😂
"His suit is aiight".
That, ladies and gentlemen, is Miguel O'Hara. Spider-man 2099. His suit (which is "aiight") is based on a classic Dia del los Muertos costume. He made it himself.
Alas, the Spidey sense doesn't warn about danger to others... unless it's also about to affect Spider-Man himself.
Also the cinematography is 🙌🏻👌🏻👏🏻💯
6:55 oh shit that actually killed me. wasn't expecting the edit LMAO
"They should make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie with this animation" did you say this before the trailer came out for that bc that's wild
Wait until you see Across the Spiderverse. You’ll lose your mind. Too bad you won’t see it on the big screen…it really deserves to be seen on one.
When Peter says, "Well I am tired." when talking with Aunt May I swear... I hear a little bit of Tobey Maguire in there and it makes me well up a little.
13:11 his wish is about to come true.
The edits in this videos earned you my sub, absolutely hilarious work. Plus you pass the vibe check.
That sting of music for Prowler is so incredible! Terrifying and awesome, like the sting for the Winter Soldier, it rocks!!!
I got told, that during the Mile’s scenes, the frames are actually 30fps.
When Mile’s is Spider-Man, it’s 60fps.
It’s a nice little touch that made me adore the movie more.
