I've seen a lot of complaints with the Hero 9 such as not being able to go live with an android, can't use it interchangeably as a webcam, and short battery life. Are these all still issues? Will the battery life now be worse because it's using the same battery as 9 to support all of the newest features of 10? Also, it appears there's still no upgrade for only getting 1080 for live.

Failed looping mode... set at 5 min but only creates 1 minute clips. 3. Terrible battery life... side-by-side test it had HALF of what my Hero 6 had in same modes I had the Hero 9 for just over a week before I was frustrated enough to call GoPro Support. After 45+ minutes on the phone with the GoPro rep, RE-installing latest firmware in an attempt just to fix the looping issue. The free replacements was a HUGE factor in me buying this morning, as a skiier/rock climber/scuba diver i have destroyed many gopros, super stoked to see how powder/snow does with the hydrophobic coating
Seeing a black screen on the app during record is a deal breaker. Won't get the 10 unless they fix this. Kinda hard to record soccer on an elevated pole if you can't see what you are looking at. That's the only reason I watched this video, thanks for answering that question for me!
I'd love to see how the hypersmooth holds up in low light. I'm guessing still not too well since you will still need a long exposure time, and will therefore still have the weird problems with motion blur. This is one area where small gimbal cameras like the Osmo pocket are better. I like to record marathons that often start in the predawn hours.
Yeah, the thing is, all action cameras that are doing this type of on-board stabilization are using frame by frame analysis to understand where things are in the frame to then keep them stable. In low light, they can't analyze the frame to understand what's happening and you end up losing that gimbal like stabilization. Like I mentioned in the video, small sensor cameras are not designed for low-light. Not really a GoPro issue as much as all small sensor cameras kind of thing👍
@@DavidManningvlog This is one reason I bought the DJI Pocket 2, not as a GoPro replacement but as a camera to use in low light and get cinematic footage. Amazingly the small sensor in the Pocket 2 holds up really well in low light. I would be interested to see how good or bad the Hero 10 footage is in low light if all stabilisation was turned off and it was on a gimbal instead. My guess is still not great, but more useable than the blotchy mess you get with EIS in low light!
Are there any overheating problems? Is it possible to leave it on for 45 minute or longer? If I have it plugged into a charger? How long is the battery life?
Good video. I don't use my 9 a whole lot so not sure it's worth the money for me to upgrade, but the better front screen framerate and the lag-free menus are great, not to mention better resolution and fps for video recording. I think it's awesome that all the old accessories work. Less money needed to be spent for those who do upgrade every year, or for the 9 owners who want the 10
Less glitchy with newer sensor, smoother touch screen, little added things. Hero 9 is probable dead in GP's eyes now. Doubt they'll do any more update either unlike the dji osmo.
I've been looking to upgrade my current action cam for years now. I have a 2016 Sony FDR X1000V. Still shoots well, but Img Stab is way obsolete. Been waiting for Go Pro to put a non glitchy camera out for 3 years now. I hope this is it
is bad as GP9, the cpu is more powerfull but its enter in thermalthrottle and overheating issues that turn off your GP. Now imagine if you keep it in a powerbank while rec, probably will see at news GP10 exploded.
Thank you for the review of the GoPro 10. Do you see any over heating problems with the device? If so, what are the conditions causing it. Another you tuber seemed to find some overheating conditions.
Hi. I have 1 easy question. Everytime I take the battery out of GoPro and then put it back the GoPro still needs to set up time and date. It is very annoying setting it up if I take the battery out. Is there a possibility to solve this somehow? Thank you in advance.
Good review. Even though I have the H9B, I think I'm grabbing a Hero10. Another reviewer mentioned that the preview turning off while recording has something to do with a patent/legal situation. I haven't looked into it much though, since I don't use the preview much aside from lining up shots.
I wonder how the polar pro ND filters will behave with hypersmooth and the GP2 chip. It is a good upgrade but not good enough for an upgrade from a Hero 9
Yeo David! The inability to see what you’re recording on your phone once you hit record is due to a lawsuit GoPro is currently facing. Perhaps someone patented that technology or something. Hope this helps.
I'm with you dude. It looks great but my 9 is more than enough for what I do. Getting a 10 would be more of the same just slightly better, where as a 360 will add such a new range of shots!
@@gedreeves9692 @D W there are rumors that Insta is working on a small format 360 camera. I guess some sort of version of a Go2 360. That'll be very nice. What I want is a small format 360, like a 360 Gopro session or that Go2 360. I don't think a 360 needs a screen to see what's recording, because it's recording everything.
@@rubenvor yeah that would be awesome. I was close to pulling the trigger on the 360 x2 after David's video on his electric skateboard, but had just dropped a lot of money on other camera gear 😂 if something can upstage that camera, I'm in!
I hate to disillusion you but big leaps don't come every year. That's just a marketing ploy to keep consumers buying. Cell phones are the biggest example of that, although the car is probably the oldest. Most chassis are unchanged for at least a decade.

Great review!! The hero9 has the problem, dropping the Mbit after heating up... would be nice to see if this happens to the hero10. How is the battery life and is there any overheating / shut down with the hero10? thank you again!
I have ALWAYS been a GoPro guy, but I have had SO many issues with my GoPro freezing the video in random conditions! I just bought an OSMO Action yesterday to see how well it works compared to my current GoPro! I hope GoPro has fixed all the issues with the 10, but I'm feeling sketchy and a little afraid to invest in a new one at this point! May stick with it, may not, but HAVE to have something reliable. Thanks for the great video David, well done and beautiful family brother. God bless.
I’d like to see you compare the Hero 10 vs The Go 2. I’m still on the fence whether to give GoPro one last chance or to go to the Go 2 and Insta 360 to replace my Max. Still not a fan of the GoPro app though. Since it moved to Quik, I find my videos need to be downloaded twice to finally successfully download. This is the biggest reason I have not videoed much this year.
I take it GoPro advised creators on the press list not to mention that the max lens mod does not currently work on the 10 black. Update required, either this means they’re currently working to improve on 2.7k or …….well I don’t want to think about that option!
how's the other problems that plagued the 9?? thermal shutdown from overheating, popping, crazy chaptering, lost recordings, crashing, constant battery pulls and also hear battery life isn't as good by a good 20-30%
After two weeks of testing, I've seen none of that, which is why I'm actually stoked on this camera so far! I'll keep you updated as I continue to test it, but for me that was my major problem with the Hero 9. The GP2 seems to have fixed those issues. As for battery life, I only saw a loss when comparing it against the Hero 9 at a lower frame rate or resolution. So if I was filming at 5.3K 60 on the Hero 10 and 4K 60 on the Hero 9, I would see about a 5-10% reduction in battery life on the 10. But when they were at the same resolution and frame rate, then the batter life was the exact same. Again, just sort of the nature of cameras, the higher resolution or frame rate that you're shooting at, the lower battery life you'll have 👍
@@livingonthetyne Yep, thats true, but everybody got different "point of view for gopro review". @@livingonthetyne That's the point. Couple of guys out there, talking about the overheating issue at 4k 60fps and higher and a shutdown around after 20 mins. Very very bad and disappointing.
They should have added select aspect ratio in post like on Insta360 go2. You published a video recently with why you choose go2 over gp9. Those reasons still seams applicable or?😅
I have the GoPro 7 and purchased many of the items you reviewed in your video "ULTIMATE GoPro Accessories Guide" from 2019. Will many of these accessories continue to work with the GoPro 10? Great stuff as usual. I love your channel.
I was kinda hoping for better low light performance BUT I understand that may have to change to physical size (again) from the Hero9 and I definitely don't want to re-buy 6 new batteries!!!
Thanks for the informative info, I do have a question, I know you used the gopro 10 & sony zv-1. I'm a cruiser on carnival trying to decide between these two any suggestions?
Great review. A prob I have with your comparison chart is that the increased pixels are not scalable but jammed on the same size sensor. IMHO 5k+ pixels brings 'over-sharpening', more artefacts and the infamous blue sky banding. More natural results are likely achievable on this size sensor at 1080 or 2.7k
What about the sync between the iphone? Does it allow for iphone screen and gopro screen running at the same time? Found it...at the last of the video.
Same here. I still really like the 7, who needs 4k at 120... I usually upload in 2.7k on TH-cam anyways and 90% of people watch videos on theyr Phone (most of the phones have a 1080 resolution) so resolution isn't a valid motive to upgrade for me. What I usually do is buy the model before, in this case i recommend the 9.
Great review, I'm still using the 7, and it's starting to have issues, might need to upgrade. On the 10 can hypersmooth be used in 5k 60? that would be awesome. If not, could you tell me what the highest resolution at 60fps is possible? thanks.
Great content as per usual. With regard to the video preview being disabled when you start recording, according to other reviewers such as DCRainmaker, reading between the lines, this feature may be currently disabled due to some ongoing litigation in the courts - perhaps some sort of IP/patent issue, so not necessarily a bug or hardware limitation, but a feature which has been deliberately disabled until the court case is resolved - hopefully it returns at some point in the future. That said, responses from GoPro support on their community forums suggest its due to processing limitations - although if that were the case you'd think that would be much less of an issue on the Hero 10 than the Hero 9.
I ordered it. 19 or 20 megapixel screen grabs is great. Also write speed of burst photos is improved according to Mic Bergsma review. I have the 7 and the 8 for spearfishiing and snorkeling. The 9 was not appealing. Natural color option sounds good too. I kind of wished for a 1 inch sensor, but still it looks as a better buy than buggy insta 360 one r that has over saturated garish colors.
Here's a couple questions, maybe you can help. I just got the HERO10, that's an upgrade from the 8 for me, but I'm wondering if you can explain the difference in battery saving mode and maximum modes. I see a little diffence in resolution, but what is the difference? Also, how can I connect my wireless go 2 to it, I don't have a media mod for it yet. Thanks.
The new processor is fast and lag free but wait what is with the overheating and shut off from go pro..... Next iteration with better camera sensors and more low light capabilities along with a more improved sensor are we asking for more.... Hope they Address these issues... Nice work.... 👍
This was a very imformative video as I'e been wanting to know if GoPro corrected the issues that the GoPro 9 had. did you have any issues with it over heating that I've heard about in other review videos on the 10?
So far Ithese issues with GoPro Hero 10 Black: 1. Power Off while charging and I can't turn it on. Only taking the battery out helps. 2. It can turn on by itself while charging or without it 3. Overheats after 34 minutes and turns off by itself and the battery is still 30%. The video is 4K 60. 4. Overheats after 1 hour 6 mins and turns off by itself and the battery is still 15%. The video is 1080p 60. 5. When I charge it and click the power button it says Power off and does not turn off. If I click on it to turn it off again, then the display is black & nothing happens. Only taking the battery out helps. 6. When I charge the GoPro and turn it on, the battery percentage is not updated. For example it shows 36%, when I switch to photo & back it shows 94%. 7. It I record without the battery I can't see what I record and how long. The display is black. When I stop recording, it says "COLD BATTERY ALERT, the battery is below of 0º C". But I don't use don’t battery, I use the cable only. If someone wishes to buy it, I don't recommend to. But it's up to you.
Compared to the Insta360 X2? I have a GoPro hero 8 and in the market for an upgrade. I saw your other video on the X2 “favorite action camera” video. How does this hero 10 compare? You still pick up X2 camera first?
I just bought a hero 10. Now I’m playing catch up to learn to use it. Finally, this is an excellent camera and the stabilization is going to be awesome. I have a GoPro 5 which is pretty useless without a stabilizing handle. I have NO experience with the 9 so it’s a little frustrating when you and other you tubers keep comparing them. Any overheating? Another youtuber said it over heated after about 20 to 30 minutes. He also said battery consumption was worse. Thanks for the review!
Seeing a black screen on the app during record is a deal breaker. Won't get the 10 unless they fix this. Kinda hard to record soccer on an elevated pole if you can't see what you are looking at. That's the only reason I watched this video, thanks for answering that question for me!
It has probably to do with the contour gopro lawsuit, I think its about 2 or 3 patents regarding control the camera from the phone
It doesn't do well, im just about to upload a video with the hero 10 on the bike at night time woth hypersmooth on.
Hey David . Any suggestions. Do i need to update my camera from osmo action to hero10😁
So you never got around to answering is it time for me to upgrade from my trusty hero 8 to hero 10?
Good video. I don't use my 9 a whole lot so not sure it's worth the money for me to upgrade, but the better front screen framerate and the lag-free menus are great, not to mention better resolution and fps for video recording. I think it's awesome that all the old accessories work. Less money needed to be spent for those who do upgrade every year, or for the 9 owners who want the 10
Thanks for the info. I have heard that the GoPro 10 gets hot. What has been your experience with the heat?
Is it more or less glitchy than the 9? That's all I want to know :)
Less glitchy with newer sensor, smoother touch screen, little added things. Hero 9 is probable dead in GP's eyes now. Doubt they'll do any more update either unlike the dji osmo.
From what I’ve been seeing on reviews the New Processor is definitely helping:)
I've been looking to upgrade my current action cam for years now. I have a 2016 Sony FDR X1000V. Still shoots well, but Img Stab is way obsolete. Been waiting for Go Pro to put a non glitchy camera out for 3 years now. I hope this is it
It has a new processor
is bad as GP9, the cpu is more powerfull but its enter in thermalthrottle and overheating issues that turn off your GP. Now imagine if you keep it in a powerbank while rec, probably will see at news GP10 exploded.
Thank you for the review of the GoPro 10. Do you see any over heating problems with the device? If so, what are the conditions causing it. Another you tuber seemed to find some overheating conditions.
That hydrophobic coating sounds nice. Blew countless sequences because I didn't realize there were some droplets on the lense.
Definitely will be my next camera because I don't like the bugginess of the GoPro 9. Great information thanks.
Hi. Which one would recommend between GoPro 10 vs Inta360 go 2?
Great review. I was hoping for better low light. My GP10 is ordered and excited to try it when it arrives next week. Upgrading from the 7.
Hope this helps.
would like to see a battery test. record time 9 vs 10. does the gp2 burn battery more?
Sounds like not a big leap. Sticking to my hero 9 and wait for what's new from Insta 360.
I been thinking of buying the 360 Next I have the Hero 9
Glad you got it! 😉🙏🏽
I literally can't change modes on the Hero 9 when I'm at the pool filming stuff. I wonder how this touch screen does when wet? Thanks for the review!
Pressing the power button will cycle through the modes
@@crc0889 - I tend to want to change frame rates to one of my quick settings. Almost always video. I rarely use time lapse or photo modes. I wish I could hide those modes and tap the power button to switch frame rates / resolutions.
@@mlegrand There's a way Matt! Hold the Power/Mode button and TAP the shutter button. That will bring up your saved quick settings within the mode you're in. Then you can cycle through and choose one of your quick settings without ever having to use the touch screen👍
@@DavidManningvlog - Wow Thanks 🙏 🙌
Great review!!
The hero9 has the problem, dropping the Mbit after heating up... would be nice to see if this happens to the hero10. How is the battery life and is there any overheating / shut down with the hero10?
thank you again!
Bagged mine at 14:35 in the uk. £379 for just the camera or £379 for bundle. Im still a subscriber from last year
I just bought one on Cyber Monday. Waiting for delivery. Never had one. Hope it's user friendly.
God bless.
One issue the 9 had was corrupted files. It got better with updates. Any issues with the 10 losing files? And thanks for the content enjoy it a ton.
This is the biggest reason I have not videoed much this year.
was waiting to buy a GoPro 10. Was hoping it was better in low light. With a light on top would it improve significantly ??? Nice review thanks !!!!
I take it GoPro advised creators on the press list not to mention that the max lens mod does not currently work on the 10 black. Update required, either this means they’re currently working to improve on 2.7k or …….well I don’t want to think about that option!
Hi David!! Thanasis from Greece!!! You are great at all!!! Keep going…💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
how's the other problems that plagued the 9?? thermal shutdown from overheating, popping, crazy chaptering, lost recordings, crashing, constant battery pulls and also hear battery life isn't as good by a good 20-30%
yeah, that's actually the most important stuff
Again, just sort of the nature of cameras, the higher resolution or frame rate that you're shooting at, the lower battery life you'll have 👍
A couple other reviews that just came out have spoken about overheating issues worse than the 9
@@livingonthetyne Yep, thats true, but everybody got different "point of view for gopro review". Thats how tech companies manipulate the media, you want honest review? wait 6 months when normal ppl will buy it and face the doom. My cash wait in my bankaccount, i wanted GoPro10 but i think ill go with insta360..
@@livingonthetyne
That's the point. Couple of guys out there, talking about the overheating issue at 4k 60fps and higher and a shutdown around after 20 mins. Very very bad and disappointing.
Does 1080 do a higher frame rate now ??
It's got wireless built it, right ? So, it needs a wireless external mic. Surely they could add that as a software update ?
They should have added select aspect ratio in post like on Insta360 go2. You published a video recently with why you choose go2 over gp9. Those reasons still seams applicable or?😅
For sure a video on that coming soon😉👍
@@DavidManningvlog appreciate it! 🙏🏻🙌🏼
Hey, great review. I’m in hunting of camera for filming my vacation and can get underwater.
Which is best: Insta360 one x2 or Gopro 10?
Great review. Did you experience an over heating problem? I heard that it shuts off at 23 minutes due to overheating.
I have the GoPro 7 and purchased many of the items you reviewed in your video "ULTIMATE GoPro Accessories Guide" from 2019. Will many of these accessories continue to work with the GoPro 10? Great stuff as usual. I love your channel.
I have the Hero 8. Does the 10 have that annoying battery door that falls off and costs $20 to replace when lost?
Manny, get the foam cover for it. Works great in my experience. That way u don't need anything extra.
How about the battery backup and over heating, did you find out any difference....??
My man with the first Hero10 video I can find!!!
Heck yeah Joel!🎉
I was kinda hoping for better low light performance BUT I understand that may have to change to physical size (again) from the Hero9 and I definitely don't want to re-buy 6 new batteries!!!
Thanks for the informative info, I do have a question, I know you used the gopro 10 & sony zv-1. I'm a cruiser on carnival trying to decide between these two any suggestions?
If you had to choose between the GoPro 9/10 and the intra 360?
As soon as they fix the recording issue when linked to iphone I will buy one it's the most important feature I need for my work !
Any updates on the freezing issues of GoPro? Have they improved with the hero 10 and are they more reliable?
4K 120!!! 🙌🏻 thank GOD!!! Literally just got done ordering!!
What about the sync between the iphone? Does it allow for iphone screen and gopro screen running at the same time? Found it...at the last of the video.
one word for this Vlog. PERFECT!
I still have the hero 7 and love it. Should I upgrade to 10?
I will still need to see more reviews 🤔 thank you 😊
Have they fixed not being able to preview what you're recording on your phone?
As I understand it the issue is to do with a patent claim by the failed camera manufacturer called contour
@@andrew_veale thanks for the info! so this will most likely stay unresolved for a while?
Great review, I'm still using the 7, and it's starting to have issues, might need to upgrade. On the 10 can hypersmooth be used in 5k 60? that would be awesome. If not, could you tell me what the highest resolution at 60fps is possible? thanks.
thank you david
Great review. Thanks. I’m curious about those thumbscrews. Where did you get them?
They decided to double the frame rate across the board so that new gp2 Processor is getting maxed out just like the gp1 on the 9, maybe more so.
Great Review. Did you have any issues with overheating or it shutting down after 20 minutes or so?
I'm sold! Natural colour seems like in-between GoPro colour and Flat.
One question how is it with the Max Lens Mod? Is it now shooting 2.7K+ with 120fps?
Nice video Dave. Thanks. The big question is does it still freeze? That’s gotta be the central question every GP user is asking?.
Don't know much about the camera, but those are 2 precious and beautiful kids!
Great recap! If the 10 turns on and off when it is supposed to, sold!!!!
Great review dude! Just might order one today!
Keep in mind, they didn’t fix the problem with can’t review while recording
So far Ithese issues with GoPro Hero 10 Black:
1. Power Off while charging and I can't turn it on. Only taking the battery out helps.
2. It can turn on by itself while charging or without it
Bro U Made A Mistake
Compared to the Insta360 X2? I have a GoPro hero 8 and in the market for an upgrade. I saw your other video on the X2 “favorite action camera” video. How does this hero 10 compare? You still pick up X2 camera first?
I just bought a hero 10. Now I’m playing catch up to learn to use it. Finally, this is an excellent camera and the stabilization is going to be awesome. I have a GoPro 5 which is pretty useless without a stabilizing handle. I have NO experience with the 9 so it’s a little frustrating when you and other you tubers keep comparing them. Your video is helpful and I subscribed. Thanks.
Question David. If I already have a GoPro Hero8 and a GoPro Hero9 and I want a third camera, which one would you choose between the Hero9 and the Insta360 ONE X2?
