I know we left out tons of exciting features like horizon leveling and subscription services… I just don’t think those are relevant to your next bike park trip, so we really tried to test the things that would matter to you, the mountain biker. I hope we did, but I’m open to suggestions for next time! I’ve always waited weeks to see an actual mountain biker review a new GoPro, and so having the opportunity to do this on launch day seemed like a no brainer.
GoPro matches the carbon hardtail you built from scratch quote "I haven't even risen it yet and it's already black and blue" see if you can get that reference also shout out to all that ozy mtbers out
The horizon ain't always level when I berm, so I don't want it weirdly level in my footage.... good call. Also, in 2021, the last thing I need is another subscription service, so meh to that, 👍 to this. I care about dynamic range, so I can go in and out of shadows and still see the trail... the image not getting noisy in shadows... and the stabilization not jittering in shadowy tree cover.

Nice video. Just one tip. On GoPro HERO5/6/7/8/9/10 If the camera locks up for any reason, DO NOT pull the battery. What you need to do is press and hold the side mode button for 12 to 15 seconds and then release. This will clear the error and soft reset the camera.
Yeah i got a hero 3 when it was new but the good thing about more new gopros coming out is the older ones will get cheaper even if its just a little cheaper cus theyre still all great cameras since hero 5 especially
but actually thats how you know the camera with poor video quality... video with higher bitrate would show up even in a lower resolution... while the video with poor bitrate highly depend on high video resolution to make up for its poor bitrate ... I always do this even when I have the capability to watch in 1080p... because i know not all people from around the world are gonna watch in 1080...there are still people who watch on a phone with 480p...
hopefully next up they actually fix their software, too. the hardware is incredible but holy hell, GoPro quick and all that really needs a lot of work. I need about 3 external apps to even make GPS telemetry work
After using GoPro's for years only to have to pull the battery out, I bought a DJI. Totally been happy with it, but it doesn't have the awesome features that the GoPro's have. Once GoPro can have 1. Great battery life and 2. No freezing/never have to pull the battery out, I'll buy one. GoPro 11?
DJI 2 is coming out, and it has a 1/1.7" (gopro has had the same 1/2.3" from the start) sensor with modest 4000x3000 (12MP) max resolution. Its going to kill any gopro.
Even worse, my gpro9 has bonked while recording and actually wiped the memory card. It's a know issue that 1000's of people have reported, but gopro hasn't addressed or even responded to
Everything that works on the Hero 9 works, but the mic is about the same. It's really impossible to totally cancel wind noise on any camera without putting a big filter on it or cutting out tons of frequencies. I wish they would just eliminate all that and use the same mic as the Hero 4!
In the end, apart from being more nerdy, it doesn’t bring anything to the table. 5k will definitely draw the battery faster and fill your SD card in no time. The only thing most riders would need is a bigger sensor for noticeably improved low light performance (in the woods for instance). Or HDR 😍 I’ll stick with my 7 black!
same here. 5K seems incredible but whats the point if its gonna be barely usable. I have 2 memory cards and 2 batteries on me at all times whenever I record with my GoPro Hero 8 and I feel like I'd need even more for the Hero 10. oh and the overheating is another thing..
Good job Seth . I like that you go straight to the point and make an honest review . Most of the youtubers will say how big upgrade it is , without even mention the important things that you said .
The Hero 10 Black looks good, and all your points on its improvements and useability are great. I personally find it hard to continue supporting GoPro with the experiences I have had with my Hero 7 Black, and stories from other users with later models. I have lost tons of footage while snowboarding, dirt biking, and riding MTBs because of the GoPro's buggy operating system (had it RMA'd already too). This has made good days of riding turn bad in a matter of minutes. I sincerely hope the 10 is fixed, but please don't cross your fingers on firmware updates if its not.
Yep had the 7 super buggy, friend has the 8 freezes all the time despite updates. Had long conversations with Go Pro basically they said it’s a problem that can’t be fixed with firmware…. Waiting for one that doesn’t over heat before I buy one.
I for one would love to see more camera reviews and behind the scenes info on your filming and editing process. Even info on how you plan out ideas for videos would be welcome. I always find that sort of thing super interesting.
Hey I love you videos and they inspired me to actually look for trails and today I did my first ever trail (blue) that is near me and after showing my mom pictures of the trail she also wants to join in now! Thank you for all the advice in the MTB 101 videos! They really helped me!
Love your videos. I was just watching another one of your videos and I saw this one pop up and I was like hell yes. Love these videos they are so enjoyable and interesting. Keep it up👍
Had a hero 4 that I won a couple years back and then went to a hero 7 when the 8 came out. Still very happy with the purchase, honestly exactly what a hobbyist needs to record some memories. Good stabilization = less hassle, still decent image quality etc, and the price is well below $200 nowadays on ebay.
I love how easy this was to understand and also how you used real world scenarios like the time-lapse make it easy to see if this was the right camera to get❤
4:50 I'd like to point out that even though you are recording at specific resolutions, it wont be pixel perfect. GoPro doesn't record at a high enough video bitrate (which kinda sucks) to capture some detailed scenes compared to what a DSLR etc could do. But you wont really notice this if you don't zoom in.
What's the battery life on it like? My ideal camera is one I turn on at the start of a spin and forget about until I turn it off when I get home, but I'd need up to 8 hours of battery life for that. Remembering to turn it on and off for the 'interesting' bits, especially when interesting things can happen at any time, is an annoyance I have no interest in adding to my spins.
1:41 if a camera can give me a smooth vide like a flat stable while Oscar running like that I won't even doubt and buy it right away but yeah Oscar can run like hell lol 😂
I love that they made 120/4k, improved touch screen, and color. All incremental improvements. I have yet to get one because they always lacked a few features I wanted. This is the first one that has pretty much everything I want. Schedule record is something I need I hadn't even thought about. So cool. Prices are reasonable now too. Need one to watch the suspension in my Yota to check out bump stop/end links under dynamic loads. Frankly if I hadn't watched this it wouldn't have occured to me I'll also need to put a light source down there with it, so thank you! Nice trucks, bikes, and tool heaven. Man of my tastes haha. GoPro is just another tool I have been needing to have in my bag.
I heard also the write speed for burst still photos has improved significantly, which matters for me for underwater photos (raw is better underwater to fix the white balance than a video grab). Natural color could be given through firmware update to older cameras.
Pretty straightforward and honest review! They should make a smaller camera also, like session. I love my GoPro Hero 8 but my Session 5 is so much lighter and smaller.
This was cool Seth, I'd love to hear more about your cam setup and recording process. I'm new to your channels, I don't MTB, I don't RC and I don't even have a camera, you just make stuff interesting to watch!
I think you might have pointed out an already existing feature. Scheduled capture, the Hero 9 Black also had that feature and it comes in really handy for sunrises and stuff. All and all, great video as always man!
My 7 films well and the stabilization works great but good Lord the freeze-ups are a pain in the ass!! I have to pop that stupid battery out 4 or 5 times a film day. With it being in the chesty harness and having a wind muffler/sleeve around it, it's really a hassle.
Nice video. Thanks. I just done agree the analogy you make that high resolution equals to quality at 4 :35. Unless I misunderstood what you wanted to say there.
4k 120 is the only reason why I think someone should upgrade from the 9 (if they absolutely wanted to have sick looking slo-mo). Otherwise, scheduled capture, etc are all available on the previous gen. I use it on vacas filming sunrises. Pretty neat feature. Touchscreen has gotten a lot better after a few updates too, thankfully. Also, most of the time when I film I'm wearing a chesty and say "GoPro, start recording." or "GoPro, stop recording." I rarely need to use the interface. If you have an older GPro, this is the way to go (or see if the 9s lower in price)
No overheating thus far, but we ran it only a few minutes at a time in shady 80 degree weather. It was damn reliable as far as shooting goes, but locked up in playback mode. That was on a pre release firmware and I haven’t tested the launch version.
Wow! In the beginning of this video , I was thinking "Well, this is stuff that is nice, but I can't justify upgrading the 9 just yet"... then you talked about the touch screen... Now I might have to pick one up! Great review!
Just ordered a GoPro Hero 10 as an upgrade from the Hero 7. My 7 is still working brilliantly, I use it all the time and I can’t actually fault it. The reason I upgraded was for the horizon levelling and I had vouchers won from a work incentive that covered half the cost. Without the vouchers I would have lived happily without the horizon levelling. That said… I might be blown away when I get the Camera in my hand!
Thanks for the useful breakdown! The more responsive touchscreen will definitely come in handy. Looking forward to getting our hands on one of these and testing it out for ourselves!

Gopro10 for cinematic fpv drones is a huge deal right now..that 120 4k is amazing. I'm working on an edit for footage I took at an old dam here in SC..the slow-mo is astonishing!
Thanks for the heads up Seth, I Also use a gopro almost exclusively for my videos and I had debated upgrading from the Hero 8. While I would like the better image quality i'm not sold thats its really worth it yet. Thanks again!
After experiencing their customer service ill never buy a gopro again. Fortunately I got my hero8 working by myself but even with a gopro plus membership I couldn't get help, warranty or replacement. DO NOT buy a gopro, especially a new one, unless you're able to get it warrantied/replaced in store, and expect to have to buy the next generation after warranty as you will not get help with issues after the warranty period.
Thanks. I am not going to buy any go pros. The random stops issue is very frustrating. I risked my life to get a killer shot to find out the camera stopped recording . Love your channel
I would like an optimised Gopro for run time, stabilisation and 2.7k 70mbps is all I need for good quality, a runtime linger than 40 minutes would be really nice though.
Hero 7 on the karma grip is still my favourite! Nice you can point the camera and it maintains that frame, but y’a the extra luggage can be much to bring up a mountain
Good day sir. Can you please create a video about gears again? And can you please experiment with a 3×1 set up? Like 3chainrings with a single speed cog at the rear wheel please. Thank you sir
For a cheap alternative to the construction timelapse mode, my current strategy is to use an old Android phone with some very not pretty software (Automate calling a shell script that turns the screen on, calls the take photo activity of the open camera app and closes everything). Image quality isn't brilliant, but the solar charging system, mounts and enclosure were all built with old or spare parts, so I haven't had to spend anything on it. It has been going for over a year now taking photos of trees growing in a plantation, getting the photos off once every month or so.
Thank you for a quick review of features that matter to most users. I still have and use a hero 3 silver, also a dji osmo action. If gopro is still doing the $100 trade in, it'd be worth it.
Bro, I'm so hooked on your content... I got like 4 minutes into this video and realized: A: I don't record my rides. B: I don't care about a gopro review C: I don't own an action cam of any kind. And furthermore, I still watched the rest on the video. 🤪

"Dolphin was... pooping" is a strange insight into Seth's subconsciousness.

To be fair, Seth has a baby. He's probably thinking about poop a lot.

The slow-mo hi res looks insane!
Woo for the improved touch screen! The 9 had genuinely the worst touch screen i've used in years, it was hot garbage!
Exactly the amount of info I need. Thanks
First video of yours I'm watching! 8:18 caught me off guard; I would've guessed that you were a tech review channel!
Hey Seth, Great Video, i just wanna know, Wheres Drama? I miss him.
my hero 7 black has that scheduled timelapse, BUT its not insettings, gotta get goprp labs lol
“locked up on me twice”.. “i’m sure it’s going to improve”. Cheers for the review!
Thank you for a quick review of features that matter to most users. I still have and use a hero 3 silver, also a dji osmo action. If gopro is still doing the $100 trade in, it'd be worth it.
Last I checked they had ended the trade up program
Hey could you do a quick video on how to 180 and 360 it’s something I really want to learn but I’m getting nowhere
As normal, the compression is still too heavy to see the quality of it. It’s a bummer, since it’s obviously a high quality camera
Thank you! defenetly it is exactly what I needed to know for my mtb channel. Thank you!! great!!!!!
Bro, I'm so hooked on your content... I got like 4 minutes into this video and realized:
A: I don't record my rides.
B: I don't care about a gopro review
C: I don't own an action cam of any kind.
And furthermore, I still watched the rest on the video. 🤪
NGL that was a really good review.👌
