    I know we left out tons of exciting features like horizon leveling and subscription services… I just don’t think those are relevant to your next bike park trip, so we really tried to test the things that would matter to you, the mountain biker. I hope we did, but I’m open to suggestions for next time! I’ve always waited weeks to see an actual mountain biker review a new GoPro, and so having the opportunity to do this on launch day seemed like a no brainer.

      The horizon ain't always level when I berm, so I don't want it weirdly level in my footage.... good call. Also, in 2021, the last thing I need is another subscription service, so meh to that, 👍 to this.
      I care about dynamic range, so I can go in and out of shadows and still see the trail... the image not getting noisy in shadows... and the stabilization not jittering in shadowy tree cover.

    Nice video.
    Just one tip. On GoPro HERO5/6/7/8/9/10
    If the camera locks up for any reason, DO NOT pull the battery. What you need to do is press and hold the side mode button for 12 to 15 seconds and then release. This will clear the error and soft reset the camera.

    In the end, apart from being more nerdy, it doesn’t bring anything to the table. 5k will definitely draw the battery faster and fill your SD card in no time. The only thing most riders would need is a bigger sensor for noticeably improved low light performance (in the woods for instance).

    • @BermPeakExpress
      @BermPeakExpress  3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Everything that works on the Hero 9 works, but the mic is about the same. It's really impossible to totally cancel wind noise on any camera without putting a big filter on it or cutting out tons of frequencies. I wish they would just eliminate all that and use the same mic as the Hero 4!

    The Hero 10 Black looks good, and all your points on its improvements and useability are great. I personally find it hard to continue supporting GoPro with the experiences I have had with my Hero 7 Black, and stories from other users with later models. I have lost tons of footage while snowboarding, dirt biking, and riding MTBs because of the GoPro's buggy operating system (had it RMA'd already too). This has made good days of riding turn bad in a matter of minutes. I sincerely hope the 10 is fixed, but please don't cross your fingers on firmware updates if its not.

    I feel like "the new GoPro" is kinda like "the new [anything]" in mountain biking. The user's skill and experience will matter way more than the tool you're using. I have a Hero8, and I would improve my videos way more with $400 in lessons and experience with my Hero8 than just buying a new camera. Just like I would benefit more from $1000 in biking lessons and clinics than buying a new Fox Factory fork. I'm sure the Hero10 is a better tool, but most people (myself absolutely included) are not using even 50% of what my Hero8 can do.

    • @Vanadium

      the 8 suck ass because you cant replace the lense easy and use easy ND filters. the cams before 8 did it easy and the 9 and 10 does it easy so the 8 would actually be a downgrade to my 7
      I will buy the 10 because of how sluggish the 7 will respond to sudden extreme brightness changes. Also more low light capability's and that my 7 is bugged.

    • @mttec23
      @mttec23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vanadium Eh, I have the 8 and I could really use some training on making proper edits. I really don’t know what a replaceable lens would even do for me. There are so many filters in the GoPro Quik app, why would I need a lens with a filter? That’s the original posters point, the 8 is enough for most people to ride a bike park, film it, make a little 5 minute movie and show their friends.

    • @Vanadium
      @Vanadium 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mttec23 I dont edit that way, I only do on the PC therefore I have many more options but what I need and want is to let it look more natural and how do you do it?
      Get the motion blur that we humans face when riding faster. Its not apparently visible if you ever used a GoPro Hero but I have had other Action Cams and some like the Insta360 with the 360° Mod capture the motion blur just fine.
      That's how you get it on the Hero, slap a ND filter on its lens. There was a fair amount of complaint abut the hero 8 why it has no replacements for the lens because of a crash you could not fix it your self.
      It looks like GoPro did address this with later two Generations.

    4k 120 is the only reason why I think someone should upgrade from the 9 (if they absolutely wanted to have sick looking slo-mo). Otherwise, scheduled capture, etc are all available on the previous gen. I use it on vacas filming sunrises. Pretty neat feature. Touchscreen has gotten a lot better after a few updates too, thankfully. Also, most of the time when I film I'm wearing a chesty and say "GoPro, start recording." or "GoPro, stop recording." I rarely need to use the interface. If you have an older GPro, this is the way to go (or see if the 9s lower in price)

    Just ordered a GoPro Hero 10 as an upgrade from the Hero 7. My 7 is still working brilliantly, I use it all the time and I can’t actually fault it. The reason I upgraded was for the horizon levelling and I had vouchers won from a work incentive that covered half the cost. Without the vouchers I would have lived happily without the horizon levelling. That said… I might be blown away when I get the Camera in my hand!

    Before GoPro built the camera you're holding (from GP1- to 10), they started with a pow camera (looked like a flashlight) back in 2000 or so. No one knew GoPro back then. I bought that sh:t to film our alpine descents on the mountain bike (we used to ride steep ascents almost all day to reach the downhill trail heads, today they drive a truck up there). It then (once again) stopped recording (what a surprise!) and I threw it down the 1000m wall from the mountain top in a moment of dire frustration, just as you pretended to do on the video. I really started to think, that they don't shoot their video ads with their own cameras - even with the newest models you never get that crispy, artifact-free footage. 🙄

    You can also get those scheduled capture functions on older go pro cameras using GoPro labs firmware.

    I think you might have pointed out an already existing feature.
    Scheduled capture, the Hero 9 Black also had that feature and it comes in really handy for sunrises and stuff. All and all, great video as always man!

    Have we reached an era of GoPro that we're doing things too well? EIS is so buttery-smooth that rocky, downhill MTB looks actionless. Individual frames are so crisp that any motion blur is killed. We're now even recording at resolutions that most displays can't show without downscaling. Even with all of this, the Hero 7 Black competes nicely with this generation-even without horizon leveling and a front-facing display.

  • @nathanmoller7431
    @nathanmoller7431 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    4:50 I'd like to point out that even though you are recording at specific resolutions, it wont be pixel perfect. GoPro doesn't record at a high enough video bitrate (which kinda sucks) to capture some detailed scenes compared to what a DSLR etc could do. But you wont really notice this if you don't zoom in.

    What's the battery life on it like? My ideal camera is one I turn on at the start of a spin and forget about until I turn it off when I get home, but I'd need up to 8 hours of battery life for that. Remembering to turn it on and off for the 'interesting' bits, especially when interesting things can happen at any time, is an annoyance I have no interest in adding to my spins.
