- What is the BEST cage for an 'ultimate' Miata build? Should you even consider a cage for your car if you plan on driving it to and from the track? Starting from a complete bare shell, the team at Track-Speed had to work hard to create arrive to the beautiful body-in-white look you'll see towards the end of the episode. Only to find out a big, bad surprise!

In the USA, it's common to install a "floor drop" to accommodate taller drivers in a caged NA/B Miata. This also improves the room at the bottom for wider based seats. I am not sure if that is FIA legal though.
You can rollcage a mx5, na/nb, while you're over 185cm. FIA certified aswell. with a hardtop. You'll have to cut holes through the parcel shelf and connect the main hoop underneath, outside of the cabin. I only know 1 car that has this, it's from Rudy schilders. He also has a gutted hardtop, so the forward bars are further away from the driver. Stuff like that doesn't come cheap. I lost motivation for 3 months after the cage builder did mine.. can relate to your struggle! - Ilker

Hi Kostas, I really love this build, don't say you shouldn't do it. Seam welding, full cage, some glassfibre parts, new electric with PDM, ... I'm still trying to convince myself to do exactly this 😂

One more thing: Do you know I'm right now selling some Bride Zodia? Maybe these seats will fit for you, or for Serxios K-Swap? If you like, you can have a test fitment at the ring
not familiar with mx5 chassis but inverted pedals with pumps underneath your feet usually allows to go more incline in the seat and lower down. on the smarts i have sectioned chassis to less than 1 meter tall this way

So did you lower the floor? It very common in caged mx5s to cut the floor out and put in a lowered box section so the seat can be low enough.
I think its should be pretty common knowledge that caging a car means only driving it with a helmet from then on. Im not sure if you still want to street drive it? Was a bit hard to follow you there.
I change my mind about what colour I want to paint my mx5 each week! But there are some great classic porsche colours that I think would look really good, like cassis red, or casablanca beige metalic.

Being 1.88 I never considered the MX-5 for a track car, just a fun weekend backroad toy. But my J-35 swap has me thinking some kind as roll protection is a good idea. I'm more worried about being rear ended than flipping the car. It is definitely delicate balance. Custom dual hoop far enough back, but still ft under a hard top might be they way forward. I'll never pass a safety test, so don't even try, something is better than nothing.
I say paint it something wild. Maybe something like the paint that came on the 1996 m edition miata think it’s called starlight blue mica.
How can a video be so satisfying and painful at the same time? Because trouble is our thing, I guess! 🤗

I agree that you shouldn't put a cage in a MX-5 unless you only use it on the track. I am 6ft (~183cm) and my head is far too close to the cage to drive it on the road with no helmet. The cage was fitted when I bought it and I'm thinking about lowering the floor, and/or removing some of it.
how about blue and white color combo like your flag or yellow and purple combo like OLH

This is one of the main reasons I sold my NB - the chassis was too floppy and I didn't see any path forward that I liked:
Butterfly braces and chassis rails? You still have an open box.
Roll bar? Open box.
Full cage? Not enough space inside the cabin.
I had fantasies about doing an OEM style steel monocoque roof which closed off the box without ruining the headspace but in the end I just sold the car and bought something with a roof from the factory.
