I have pictures of old brewery when they had a Bridge there witch ha gone now.

Romford is nice place to be lots shops then but I think council got very greedy now should be free parking Saturday and Sunday. This would help the retailer's.

i read somewhere that Sainsburys paid way-over the odds to buy the land, an offer the brewery couldnt refuse...but that would need verifying.

They built a car park and shopping centre there. . Some of the brewery still remains.

chalk farm car squad so16 - I know, I live there... well I live in Hornchurch, but funnily enough, Lidl have done the exact same thing in Hornchurch. We had a beautiful Art Deco cinema building on the high street (being used as a bingo hall). Lidl came in and gave the bingo company an offer they couldn’t refuse. I don’t even think they were thinking of selling before Lidl came along. We protested, but nothing worked and now we have an ugly metal hangar and four supermarkets on a short high street. It still really pisses me off (I’ll never shop in there)

A Person - actually, there’s rumours that Sainsbury’s did something similar in Hornchurch. There was a really old fire station building where Sainsbury’s wanted to build their Hornchurch High Street store.... unfortunately for them, it was Listed. One night there was a mysterious fire that destroyed the firehouse, leaving the land free for development by Sainsbury’s.
