If you don't have a road service which covers Motorcycle Towing, look into an AMA membership. It helps a good organization and gets you some towing coverage for the bikes and cars. Saves you from ever having to worry about a tow when something goes wrong.
I own a 2008 HD Dyna 96 ci , six speed. 34,500 miles on it. No failures on it. I do all my own maintenance. You shoukd install True Track Inc. Engine stabilizers on your front and rear motor mounts. Makes all the difference. No high speed death wobble. Swing arm goes through the trans case not the frame. Your rear wheel is rubber mounted to the engine. I also own a 2017 Triumph Street Cup 900 cc. Change my fluids myself because the dealership would over fill the engine oil sump.
I went riding this past weekend. Olympia, WA has a Toy Run every year (it was started by ABATE of WA back in the '70s but got too big for the organization to manage so a coalition of clubs/organizations now runs it). Anyway, due to Covid this year the run was "virtual" which means you turn in a toy at one of the designated spots and you can buy a Toy Run pin if you want (I did). Saturday (the day the run would have been) was sunny and low 50s so I jumped on the King rode to the usual run site and rode the route, a Toy Run of one, I was surprised no one else showed up. It was a great day for a run and today looks like the last clear day for awhile so guess I'll get the girl out and put some more miles on her before Winter really sets in. Hope you girl gets home soon, Jess. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Mine is going too. That "clunk" when it starts while warm. Hopefully I can get a decent paying job this coming year. Stupid Covid. Probably better to just go back in the military.
It doesn't start well in winter. It's good to hear your clear voice. The driving video is so cool. I'm glad to see your great channel again. From Woongkham, a South Korean TH-camr. 🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
I would like to say that I am personally glad that you switch back doing your blogging on weekdays. You need to have the weekends off to have that time for you, your husband, family, and friends. Thank you for doing what you do. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK❤️
30k service....they will replace the fork oil, check the neck bearings, replace brake fluid..etc. won't need to do extra unless they find a problem or leak. You'll be all good. Ride on and be safe.
Glad to hear you didn't get stuck somewhere waiting for a tow truck. My suggestion is to get the necessary tools and learn your way around the bike. If you yourself don't feel comfortable learning I know Jordan would be. It's well worth the investment in tools and the knowledge gained learning how to fix it yourself is worth it's weight in gold. I can't even add up how much I've saved in labor charges over the past fifteen years but I know it's many thousands.
You might want to ask at the desk when you check your PO box. You might have packages that won't fit. Hey at least you weren't stranded! Take care of her and she'll take care of you. Ride safe!
They usually leave a note if there is a package behind the desk. I got home and realized the “notification” I saw was for junk mail. (I didn’t even know that could happen with PO Boxes?!) and my post office tends to pitch those before it ever makes it to the box.
Harley has monkied around with compensators for years and they screw them up on a regular basis. My 2012 Dyna Switchback started making noise on my 4 corners ride and 2 dealerships told me "that's normal, all Harleys sound like that" B.S. they don't ! I finally found a dealership in So Cal who figured out the bolt holding the Screaming Eagle comp sprocket on was a couple of thousands longer then the hole it went into and the bolt bottomed out before full torque was applied. A shim or two and she sounded just like brand new again. If you can get the Extended Service Protection plan (extended warranty) including wheels and tires. I have had 6 tires replaced at a cost of 50 bucks each. Well worth the money for the warranty. No one take this as bashing Harley as I still have the FXE Superglide I bought Nov 11, 1977, and my 1998 FLHTPI former police bike. They do require a bit of looking at but anything mechanical does also.
You will be fine with SE compensator. Replaced my OEM at 46Kish. SE now has 190K on it and still works fine. Yes 46 then another 190. Not 190 combined. (2012 RK).
Just to let you know that while I truly enjoy your videos I promised my family that I wouldn’t buy another motorcycle till I retire and as of Christmas Day this year it is 18 months away. Your joy of this wonderful past time is sustaining me while I wait. Keep up the love you have for the ride and bikes like bodies wear out over time, you can replace parts to keep your ride on the road, I had a motorcycle accident 23 years ago and renting only keeps the riding fire burning. My body is back to rideable shape and I join you in spirit, while I wait to ride again.
Great you had a ride on the Dyna. It looks cool and has a great sounding pipe. That starting issue to me sounds like a eg starter motor issue or power to the starter motor. I'm sure the Harley Dealer will sort that issue out easily. I wouldn't normally do anything with the forks on a service unless the fork seals are leaking or forks are spongy etc. Forks cost alot to pull apart & may not be needed to be touched at all.
Gotta love those old Dynas. They are a good bike for the first 5 to 7 years then they go to crap. However you do have a great support network to help you fix the problems and get your bike back on the road. I hope this will be a quick and easy and cheap fix.
Winter is best time to get everything done on your bike. Weather not good for riding and mechanics aren't as busy so they want the work. The other reason is to get everything fixed in winter is so it doesn't break when weather is nice in summer
Like you, I have the multiple motorcycles so I can decide which one I'm going to ride. For me, it all depends on the ride. If it's a distance I go with my Street Glide, if I'm with the guys on back roads, I fire up the Softail Slim. I'm going bar hopping locally, I get on my custom bobber. Older bikes require a little love... My custom bobber is a 2001 Dyna WG and I have my share of fix repairs, right now is one of those times as I need a new starter relay. I recommend as they get older, find a good bike mechanic and works on the side outside the dealership...saves you money AND you have 1 mechanic who really gets to know your bike.
That's the right attitude, smile and take a ride on the alternative bike. Hope your Dyna has no other issues and the service goes as planned, fingers crossed. Cheers from Germany o7
HEY!!!! Jess, why is an empty P.O. Box embarrassing?!?! You got out on your baby (Dyna) and rode! That is what's important! Keep your energy and positivity going! We love you and look forward to you turning your ideas and concepts into great channel content! 👊🤘
this is actually the first time ever riding in the winter. My brother and I went around looking at biked and test riding them. Felt nice and I almost know what I want. You keep at it and hope Nox's ok
It's a Harley ... But they are worth it. Are you a HOG member (Harley Owners Group)??? They have a real good membership package that includes towing. I have used the towing twice and can vouch for it. No mail ? No bills ! Thanks for the video (s) !
I had an Harley Fat Bob and I had to be towed back home to many times, I was told originally not to buy a Harley after the year 2000 and I got a 2013 and it always broke down after 80miles so I handed it back and got my second Triumph Thunderbird 1600 and after 2 years never broke down. I also have an 2001 Yamaha XJR1300SP Yellow, I have had 4 of these and they are brilliant to. I can understand about Harley's in your country because they have been around for any years and people won't change. Good on YAH!
I have 2 motorcycles at this time but the 1984 Honda Shadow is being worked on and in my garage. I will be looking at the new 1100 Honda Rebel next year but haven’t decided if I’m going to get it or not lol
Hi Jess, love your channel. Go with a hard sprocket (if you ride mellow), no springed compensator: it will last forever. Or, Baker makes a really good one (more expensive, but likely will never fail).
Get a bunch of LED lights they’re super efficient I’ll get you a kerosene heater bullet heater it will be bright and warm and you enjoy working in the garage
I just went with a Baker compensator and manual tensioner this summer. The spring loaded tensioner was another one of HDs dumb ideas. 'Improving' something that has worked fine for decades. The bike only had 21,000km (13,000 miles) and the starter drive and ring gear were already showing wear from the primary chain being too tight. Expensive getting the parts sent up here to Canada but good quality product and at least I saved labour costs by being able to do the work myself. Ride safe. ✌🇨🇦
I've owned 3 Harlys.. Will never own another one.. could never trust any of them to get me out of town..or more important, back home!! So sorry yours broke.. great video, thank you.
@Mod Zozer first of all, your an idiot.. I had trouble with mine.. if you havent..that's great!.. I am 67 years old and have ridden many miles sense retiring.. argue with someone else.. ride what you want.. that's what I'm doing.. I personally do not like Harleys, I've made nothing but bad luck with them.. please stop trying to convince me otherwise.. it won't work.. ha e a nice day.. go work on your Harley.

We got about a foot of snow yesterday in central Massachusetts. I went out on a 20-mile trip the day before and unless we get some warm weather that melts this snow, that will be it for awhile. Now I will be watching for (what's that word) not empathy but...
I wanted to get on my bike so bad yesterday, but all my errands took the WHOLE freaking day, so of course it just kept getting colder as the day went on (southern OH)

Not that I have any hate for Harley... But I just got a 1986 Honda Shadow that runs perfectly, not a thing has ever broken on it. Resurrected it from my dad's garage, cleaned the carbs, dust her off and a classic is reborn. It just seems like they're poorly made for the amount of money that they ask for them. I'll never ever hate on someone for owning what they like. If you like Harleys, great, you definitely don't have to defend how you spend your money to anyone, ever.
Damned compensator, and just as you were enjoying yourself too, the Screaming Eagle one should sort you out until your hundred thousand mile service, and beyond. Keep well Jess.
If you ride fairly mellow, put a hard sprocket in (no springed compensator), you will never have to replace it again. Or, go with Baker (more expensive, likely will not break down).
All motorcycles from all brands have their own peculiarities. I love my 2004 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic and 2019 Yamaha Bolt R Spec. Both great Bikes. And Jess has great motorcycles too.
Do yourself a favor and spend the money on either the Pro Twin Man-O-War or the Baker Comp. I put the Screamin Eagle Comp in my 2008 Night Train when it went bad a few years back and all was great for awhile but now occasionally mine will bang on a hot start now.
Get a small heater for the garage it will pay for itself in no time. HD fixed that pretty fast, was the problem what you thought or something else? Sorry if you already said what the issue was I didn't catch it.
I’m in your boat. I still have the GoPro Hero 7 and I worry that it might be close to it’s end. I use it every day. I just went from a video every day to every other day. 😎😎

Last one I bought lasted three months before I had to get rid of it. HD was a christmas gift, I was able to get 2004 fatboy and love to ride her every chance I get.
You got the 7? I’m still rocking the 6. Maybe upgrade over the winter. And what’s this full time work you speak of. Its 60-70 hour weeks for me. Someone’s gotta restock that TP.
It makes that Triumph look better everyday. Like HD Triumph has traditionally been unreliable. In recent years Triumph has come so far since post 2015 as far as reliability, fit ajd finish.
It would be nice to have 2 bikes because my return throttle cable broke and I am waiting on parts so I am bikeless. Oh well I'll get it fixed in a couple of weeks or so. Cold out anyway.
crap, that sucks but at least ya made it back home. back when i used to have a harley mine made same noise and wound up being bad battery. voltage not high enough to keep starter fully engaged and slip out of ring gear while cranking and nasty noises followed. i am sure dealer will get ya fixed up. go ride the scrambler and hit up some back roads. much more fun anyway.
Hello, Neighbor ... NEW sub here ~ I am just 20 m south of you . Been trying to get a day or 2 in before it gets real crappy. It would be a hard decision what bike to ride The Scrambler looks really nice But the Dyna , Well you know what i mean . Great content, Keep the shinny side up
waiting for HD to come get my heritage right now as she's got a bad battery we think...less than a year old so will be under warranty. Also getting a new rear tire. I've only had her 11 months and put almost 15k miles on it so literally riding the tires off of her!
I've been to all manner of dealerships for motorcycles, and even though I don't own one, Harley dealerships and shops have been the best experiences bar none. My metric shop experiences have all been irritating at best.
It won't be a cheap job, but you still ended up lucky. My compensator took out my charging system too about 700 miles from home. Left me stranded out of state for a week waiting on parts.

🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
I’m riding my fourth Harley and never had a mechanical problem with any of them.
That's like an old Jeep owner saying they never had to do an oil change, they just kept topping it off :P
Yeah... know the feeling. Metrics go and go... thats why the dealers can't build Harley mall style dealerships... no revenue from service department.
Ditto for me. I am on number 6. No problems. Just regular maintenance and stuff.
Mine came loose on my 2003 Fatboy. I was able to torque it back down and so far so good. It sounded like my engine was coming apart though lol.
Oh god! 😅
When you redo your fork seals, upgrade the fork springs. Progressive Springs are about $100. And it's a world of different for the price.
(2012 RK).
"Ooohh, my compensator is going bad..." 😳 I have to make a notification ringtone out of that one 🤣🤣
Hahaha
Ooo! Ow! That sounded bad. When you looked down , I literally could feel your emotion , so relatable. I hope she's a simple fix. All the best.
I had that week. I got the you’ve got mail only to find a empty box. On the other hand a week ago it said one letter and I opened it to find four😎😎
The Dyna is suffering from "separation anxiety". It's common with pets who love you but you leave them. Just sayin'......
I do hope it gets fixed quickly! I know the feeling of the baby being in the doctor but I am glad she is taken care of!
Glad you weren't stranded. Lucky for us we get to see some Triumph content.
So sorry about the bike problems . You’re right better now than on the road somewhere 😥
I'm looking forward to the upcoming video about the filming, editing and so on. I've been curious about all of that stuff.
Glad the Dyna will be okay. You have some great choices of what to ride when the weather permits. So happy for you, Jess!
Sorry to hear that! I just rebuilt my entire primary on the 2002 Softail...
this is actually the first time ever riding in the winter. My brother and I went around looking at biked and test riding them. Felt nice and I almost know what I want. You keep at it and hope Nox's ok
She’s doing just fine! Thank you!!
I always feel so sad when my bike is in the shop. Even if I did not plan on riding, I hate it when she is not home.
Could be the compensator nut backed off a little !mine was done at a he shop ,1700.00$. And had it a month. Not going to pay that again!!
I can’t wait to see the 1100 rebel!
@@HerTwoWheels I think I may just blog that ride. I’m excited about it
Best of luck with your bike. Here's hoping you have an ace wrench working on it and that she/he takes the time to do it right (the first time).
Love them Harley's but my experience is that they do require quite a bit of maintenance. Hope you get her back soon and it's not too expensive.
Just did mine a few weeks ago. The baker setup was my choice, eliminating the auto tensioner
@Mod Zozer call it whatever you want.. I'm saying I couldn't keep one running.. maybe yours is great.. I don't want one!!
@@bertbirge7864 I know all kinds of Harley owners. They all are constantly bitching about their bikes being broke down. My ol ladies dad keeps two so he can ride one while the others in the shop- his words.
That’s why I sold my old Norton and bought a new fxst, love it, 100% reliable.
We got about a foot of snow yesterday in central Massachusetts. I went out on a 20-mile trip the day before and unless we get some warm weather that melts this snow, that will be it for awhile. Now I will be watching for (what's that word) not empathy but...
Now I remember! The word(s) are "vicarious thrill". Like watching somebody get high when you quit.
@@chuckthesham5195 😂 that's funny! Big wave from the South Shore 👍
I wanted to get on my bike so bad yesterday, but all my errands took the WHOLE freaking day, so of course it just kept getting colder as the day went on (southern OH)
That seems to happen to me often, it's just maddening! Seemingly,, noone understands when you tell them you are in a hurry so you can get home and ride! I've finally learned to try and ride first if I can especially this time of year. I'm in NC, so I guess our riding season is longer than yours but being a southerner, I just can't take much cold weather. I'm a wimp when it comes to temperature. 😜
@@dixiedoo5876 I've riden in the cold once, and it wasn't fun. Lol
The weather is definitely the downside living up north. I'm looking into moving to Vegas where I can ride year around
@@jodybogdanovich4333 Part of my errands included Sam's Club. Lol... It would've been interesting to see that grocery haul on my bike 😂. You can see my bike on my channel. The last video I uploaded. (Not a huge channel whatsoever lol)
I hope the Harley dealer is compensating you for all the free advertising. I found a local guy to work on mine labor rate is almost 1/3rd what dealer is. If it's warranty work then dealer. Love your videos & looking forward to the scrambler ones. Ride safe
Fork seals replacement, grease neck bearings. Change the brake fluid.
Yep! That’s what we did! Haha
Glad you made it home ok, luv your videos. Thanks for sharing😇
Put a comp eliminator sprocket on it and never worry abput it again. I had one on my dyna and loved it.
Ag no that's horrible. Thank goodness you have a Triumph to keep you on _your two wheels_ 🙂😜
I am really looking forward to the TH-cam channel video creation. Planning on starting one first of the year.
The Dyna is giving you attitude because you have been paying more attention to the Triumph. 😂
Been there... done that. Actually replaced it myself ... recorded a horrible video about it.. then sold the bike (totally unrelated to the repair).
Yeah man. Mine actually legit started glitching out and freezing up in the cold. Not fun to ride and record for over 30 mins and find out it was all ruined. 😅
@@HerTwoWheels So true, between the usb plug for the mike easing out or a parithra of other things, yea always fun to realize your whole vlog is not there and you were just talking to yourself. 😂😂😎😎
Just recently starting watching your videos, love the Dyna sounds really great, on Dec 28, 2020 I bought my first Harley Davidson motorcycle, its also the first street bike that I have owned in nearly 25 years. Last one I bought lasted three months before I had to get rid of it. HD was a christmas gift, I was able to get 2004 fatboy and love to ride her every chance I get.
If its not one thing its always something else. Glad they are getting you set, now for more scrambler vids!!
You got the 7? I’m still rocking the 6. Maybe upgrade over the winter.
And what’s this full time work you speak of. Its 60-70 hour weeks for me. Someone’s gotta restock that TP.
Good luck on the service not finding anything major to fix (that was not expected).
It makes that Triumph look better everyday. Like HD Triumph has traditionally been unreliable. In recent years Triumph has come so far since post 2015 as far as reliability, fit ajd finish.
I bet the Dyna is jealous of the Scrambler. Lol . Both are great looking bikes. And so is the rider. 🙂🙃
It would be nice to have 2 bikes because my return throttle cable broke and I am waiting on parts so I am bikeless. Oh well I'll get it fixed in a couple of weeks or so. Cold out anyway.
Would love to see a video of what it takes for you to compose a video start to finish. Been thinking of starting one myself...
Ah the perks of having another bike in the garage! 😎👊🏼
Darkhorse compensator is the best one on the market right now. Bike needs to be a 2007 or newer.
Hi Jess :-) So glad to see you on Doodle's calender! Great pic of you BTW!
crap, that sucks but at least ya made it back home. back when i used to have a harley mine made same noise and wound up being bad battery. voltage not high enough to keep starter fully engaged and slip out of ring gear while cranking and nasty noises followed. i am sure dealer will get ya fixed up. go ride the scrambler and hit up some back roads. much more fun anyway.
I have to do my 25k service coming up....I am dreading it
Hello, Neighbor ... NEW sub here ~ I am just 20 m south of you . Been trying to get a day or 2 in before it gets real crappy. It would be a hard decision what bike to ride The Scrambler looks really nice But the Dyna , Well you know what i mean . Great content, Keep the shinny side up
Definitely jealous of you folks with more than one motorcycle. Sucks when it's in the shop and being left bikeless.
waiting for HD to come get my heritage right now as she's got a bad battery we think...less than a year old so will be under warranty. Also getting a new rear tire. I've only had her 11 months and put almost 15k miles on it so literally riding the tires off of her!
At least you got it on video... Hope you can cost effectively fix her. The service will be worth it. Be blessed Jess.
Hooah
I finally got something of video! 🤣 she comes home today! Can’t wait to take her out for a bit!
Hope you get your bike back soon I love watching your videos be safe enjoy
Oh sh*t I hope mine doesn't make that noise ! Great video, I learned what happens when a compensator goes bad and the updated part
Hey--things happen. My BMW dealer is 45 mins away, so I feel your pain. But it sounds like your dealer is great!
I've been to all manner of dealerships for motorcycles, and even though I don't own one, Harley dealerships and shops have been the best experiences bar none. My metric shop experiences have all been irritating at best.
@@3colt3 And in my experience, nothing but good things for Guzzi and KTM and Triumph and BMW dealers I've used. Glad we both have good luck
It won't be a cheap job, but you still ended up lucky. My compensator took out my charging system too about 700 miles from home. Left me stranded out of state for a week waiting on parts.
more time on the triumph, love this channel ,ride safe jess
“Shhhhiiiiiiiit . . . .” That was a horrible sound! Glad you got her taken care of. Damn compensator!
I have to get new battery for mine.
