Excellent informative Review Jenny.
I've had the oportunity to ride in all three of the prototypes of these, there's only a couple of missing interior items, in the Mk3 Quarryman's Carriage it is just missing the Brkae cylinder which was used as a makeshift seat by quarrymen pre-preservation and should be in the centre of the carriage. The bench seats are only slightly bigger than the moulded bits sticking into the carriage interior so wouldn't be noticeable anyway. In the vans, the brake cylinder is in the same place but there is also a brake stand for the hand brake, used by the guard on unfitted trains in the down direction if the loco crew whistle for extra braking force (I've done that as I got to ride an unfitted works train 13 years ago and the GM asked me to act as guard in preference to the others in the van who were not quite old enough)
One small point, the Quarryman's carriage should always be at the "Top" end of the train with the vans (never called Brake vans on the FfR) at the "Bottom" end of passenger trains, most slate runs were run without vans in the Up direction as they always had at least 10 brakesmen over the length of the train to apply the brakes on the braked slate wagons if needed, and even in the steam era, most down slate trains were run by gravity where the brakesmen would be completely in control of the descent via hand signals and various horn blasts from the lead brakesman.
Incedentally, there were at least 34 Mk3 Quarryman's carriages, with a further 100+ of earlier types.
It seems to me the texture of the roof is in the plastic, not painted on. Is also more economical for the production.
Excellent video Jenny
Hi Jenny/Zoe A good little video on the new Peco 009 releases. But just a mention that there appears to be an issue with the merch store, its showing page not found (404 error). Also are the 'pin badges' available in that section now? Thanks
These look great! Will go nicely with my big boxes. Jenny or anyone, could you point me in the direction of the 009 build videos??
I wonder how many Welsh cakes in lunch' boxes were conveyed in these wagons over the years?
Jenny - Great review. What are the magnetic couplings you use on OO9 ? Thanks
20:12 looks like it's DIY couplers, with magnets
