    Broooo!!! It only takes 1 amp to stop your heart or to cause it to miss beat, and 1 amp is basically the same as having static electricity in you and you go to touch something that is metal or touching someone else. Those little shocks are enough to put someone in cardiac arrest. I'm just saying that because you said it wouldn't stop your heart, but in actuality it could.

    • @thekingofdiy
      @thekingofdiy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +100

      but.....No fish could stop my heart knowing it only pumps biologically cycled freshwater. No fish can hurt me knowing in a past life i was one of them. No fish can injure me knowing in my next life i will have gills. Did you think about any of that? SAY SORRY!!!

    • @untitled-youtube-channel
      @untitled-youtube-channel 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +62

      Uh, no… static electricity is 5 milli-amps, 1 amp is 1000 milli-amps… so no, static electricity isn’t stopping your heart.
      Not even close.

      @dopey_duck_944 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      the electrical path has to be through your heart to stop it. so you can survive quite a large shock if you don't grab on with both hands and aren't grounded

    • @alexandernichols7454
      @alexandernichols7454 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      You’d have to have a pretty serious preexisting heart condition for anything that Joey experienced to cause any problems, minor or major. Your average healthy person can handle very large amounts of electricity and be fine.

      10mA can kill a person based on the state of their heart; it doesn't take a full amp.

    I’ve seen and been stung by anemones in petting tanks at big aquariums. It takes a few seconds of rubbing them to get it agitated enough to sting, and then it’s only a tiny zap like a hand buzzer. It’s enough to make pull away from it, but nothing to be scared of.

    1) without seeing the video, I'm going to say that I had an electric catfish years ago and that was bad enough when I got shocked by it. I couldn't even imagine an electric eel.
    2) you should get like 600 eels and try and power the fish room off of them. Maybe not 600, but you know what I mean.

      They have a long row of cells that generate the electricity, and they're connected in series. The longer ones can produce the more powerful output. If you use a voltmeter, measuring the endpoints of the fish, you'll get the upper end of its potential output. Wear thick, insulating gloves or use special tools because if you use bare hands across the length of the fish, the shock may cross your heart and possibly kill you.

    Anemone stings all depend on your reactions to them. Some people will have a reaction to the sting, some don’t.
    However the only one that you have the likeliest chance of getting stung by (and feeling it) are carpet anemones. They stick to you and leave their modified cells on your skin. Don’t rub or eyes or lips after touching one and your fine 😂

    Thanks for giving more understanding Electric eel. The situation of killing the horse would be dependent on the water level and group of electric eels in one area. That is my thoughts. What do you think?

  • @diveron
    @diveron 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Injury depends on how much current travels through your body. You experienced a less powerful eddie current. A more serious injury would occur if you were barefoot on a ground to something the current can flow to. You are better off as a floating ground with dry shoes on. Don't be touching anything connected to earth ground being near that eel. Also, the eel may have a higher current released depending on how much stress he is under.
    Marine stings are best treated with the hottest water without burning the tissues. The water from the faucet is not hot enough to treat a marine sting. Pat the hot water with a cloth until it can be held down on the sting. The hot water cooks the proteins in the venom like poaching an egg white, neutralizing the poison. Hot water stops the pain and iching for minor marine stings. This should help.

    Hi! I’m a new subscriber and happened to find your channel interesting. I love seashells, sea life and fish too, and no, you are not a “nerd.” I was surprised to learn that you noticed the electrical shock was only felt up your arm, not going any further. It only went to where the water was. So if it only effects what is in the water, what would happen if your whole body is submerged underwater? A fascinating but scary thought. I wouldn’t try that though. Don’t let curiosity get the better of you, know what I mean. Stay safe. Oh, I’m also surprised that anemones are not as venomous as said. May it can not effect humans just fish? Makes me think of the centipede or daddy Long legs that is said to be highly venomous but not harmful to humans because our skin is too thick for their little fangs to penetrate. Maybe the same with the anemone?

If your hand touch's it it was like pulling duct tape off. Left a red mark and maybe a a bit itchy for the next 30 min. I believe it ate my ocellaris clowns. Was when i first got into the hobby 8 years ago. The clowns disappeared never thought it was the anemone until I moved it into my 90 gallon. A week later my copperband which was doing wonderful eating flake or pellets went missing. I started to look around the tank and I found the dorsal spines under anemone completely clean. Guy locally picked it up and put it in with some clarkii clowns. He luckily claims no fish loss since he has had it. It was a haddoni carpet. if i were try again id do a tank specifically for it.

    Eel shocks are meant to kill small fish. That said, a big hit will hurt. They can curl around you to give more charge. My guess is that your shock was on the light side but it’s still very unlikely to be lethal to you even with a full shock.
    From what I read human deaths seem to be more due to drowning after the shock than cardiac arrest (although that is a possibility).

    Maybe the fish can control the intensity of shock. It may be giving you a friendly tingle because it does not feel in real danger from your actions. Maybe if the fish is really scared and in danger, it may give a devastating shock repeatedly, enough to put a fully grown man in life threatening situation.
    Example. Poisonous snakes have control over how much venom they inject in one bite. Sometimes, a poisonous snake does a dry bite, without injecting any venom at all. So, just something to ponder over. This fish maybe quite a lot more dangerous than what it has shown so far.

    Those Bubble Tips might enjoy a bit more flow. I still would not willingly let myself take a hit from that Eel or not eel.

    Surely it'll be much worse if a horse stands on a electric eel as it'll be wearing metal horse shoes?

    When we see videos of big animals being taken down by Electric eels in the wild its because there are dozens or hundreds of them doing their thing all at once.

    Anemone aren't harmful to "me." I have picked up many Carpet and Bubble Anemone. They stick to me, but don't cause "me" allergic reaction. Carpet Anemone are a PITA to get off of your hand / arm because they are so big. They can get so big and handle the wrong , the other side latches on. I learned to use a power head to remove their foot, and pick them up from that. They don't like heavy waterflow on their foot.
