Looks almost identical design and spec wise to the 14" Huawei matebook D which was on clearance at walmart last christmas for $330 (Only PC I've ever bought at walmart and a year later I'm really happy with it). 8GB dual channel DDR4 (soldered), same CPU, same GPU, similar body, same port layout, and after tapping on one at my local walmart, the keyboard is about the same - Identical backlight color, and the key caps look identical just with a different color of plastic, with the same 256gb sata SSD. Heat management looks a lot better on the matebook though, with two fans and two heat pipes going to each with a lot of big chunks of copper. Kinda makes me wonder if these are largely being made in the same factory, with some cosmetic changes and a different brand name slapped on.
Literally just got this shipped in today! I'm pretty impressed for what I paid for it, you'd usually pay at least double this for the weight, a screen like this, and the form factor, the Ryzen 3 model being as low as 199USD is kind of bonkers and you can upgrade with the two m.2 slots (both NVMe supporting, main drive supports SATA too) and DDR4 slot yourself (though I took a hit on import duties to Canada, still a great deal though). Downsides are the speakers, there's nothing gratingly annoying about them but it's more that they're very recessed, and the keyboard and trackpad clicks are a bit soft for me, though the tracking on the trackpad and its size are excellent. Would recommend, though I kind of yolo'ed it since they don't sell it in Canada and I'm not sure how it'll go if I ever need support or warranty, but my credit card should cover that.
Watching this on my Motile Laptop. I love everything about mine! I upgraded my RAM on mine but had no issues with a second memory. Now I have the Ryzen 3 model.
The stripped screws may be installed with thread locker. You can use a pencil type soldering iron on high setting and soften the material then easily remove the screw. Be careful not to hold it on too long or you may melt plastic parts.
As a salesmen, I find this type of video very helpful! I'd love to see more of this content on $200-$700 USD laptops and desktops. I'd love to see metrics which affect/reflect regular use case scenarios. Such as taking notes in class, college lvl homework. Ma' n Pa' doing "Netbook Stuff" like online bill pay and Netflix. I'd also love to see information/speculation on how well the PC will age with things like 8k and 8 cores being on the mobile horizon. I'd also like a separate segment on the same units which addresses use case scenarios such as IT specialist who use them for programming or server/router maintenance.
Hey Austin quick question, could I put a HyperX Impact 32bg 3200mhz Ram card in it? Or will the computer not recognize the ram due to the speed of mhz?

I bought this laptop for my 16 year old for Christmas and I'll probably grab another one for my middle kid's 13th birthday. I picked it up as part of Walmart's thanksgiving deals for a whole $249. I knew I wasn't getting a top of the line gaming laptop at that price, but I also wasn't expecting that, either. She has played some games on it, though.. It's held up fine to The Sims 4, Minecraft, and Hollow Knight so far. I do plan to drop more ram in it for her, and we just went the external route for extra storage. Honestly, for its price point its a pretty solid starter laptop kids and teens.
Hi! For the same price, you can buy a used MacBook pro 15" with 16gb ram and an i7 (2013 to 2015). Just search 'macbook 1398' on eBay. I bought two and they are both absolutely flawless with zero scratches or dents.
i had a powerbook g4. bought it for all the wrong reasons. i wsondered why i couldn't install chrome or photoshop... then i found out x86 and power pc were incompatible. had fun playing nexuiz and halo on it tho
Did I just read that right? You bought a PowerBook G4 with the expectation of running modern Chrome and Photoshop on it? A machine that’s at least 14 years old? A machine that has only a single-core CPU, that supports only up to 2 GB of RAM, and hasn’t been usable since Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been relevant? Chrome wasn’t even a thing when Apple dropped support for the PowerBook G4! Heck, the PPCG4 architecture dates back to 1999. Yikes.
@@apollosbrownies It seems we both read that right. I have an Early 2005 15-inch Aluminium, and it is _not_ useful in the modern world unless you can get your hands on older applications and a modified web browser. It was the fastest model they made (1.67GHz, maxed out with 2GB RAM - not the DLSD one though) and it _chugs._ Good for reading email, though. I could probably write a whole novel on the thing if I wanted to.
I'm confused Austin by your double ram slot comment....where are the metal clamps to hold down the second ram chip? You are pointing at empty space where the SSD currently is...how will the ram chip stay in place??? I don't think there is a second ram slot.
Not sure if I'm just not seeing it, but I don't know how moving that m.2 drive will allow for dual channel ram. There's no where else you can physically install more ram, even if you take out the m.2 drive that's there.
Ordered the black model last night for $300 and don't think I will have any regrets. I have a chunky gaming laptop which I hate carrying around to business meetings and dealing with a battery that only lasts an hour. For what I'm going to use it for, I think even the RAM issue is not an issue for me.
This laptop is great, but it makes me so mad that they didn't include a second RAM slot. That and the cooling is what really holds that wonderful APU back.
i got the motile laptop in 4gb ram and 128 gb ssd . I'm just watching videos on it and surfing the web so I don't need anything higher . its in silver!! I love it!!! It works great!!

went to walmart with my friend and found a HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop for $400 *edit* all i know for specs is that it has a geforce nvidia 1660Ti and core i5 intel processor. runs games good and windows 10
If you know what you're doing and what you're looking for, you can snag a deal at Walmart, usually worth waiting until the expensive stuff gets marked down on clearance.
I bought the m141 version and quite satisfied with it. First thing I did was wipe Windows off of it and installed LUbuntu 19.10 Linux. Installed just fine, everything works that I've tried. Used hardwired ethernet port for updating, and then moved to Wifi for tether-less. No problem. For $200 that I bought it for, you can't beat it. Treat it as almost as a 'throw away' device at this price. Plus I can update the memory if necessary and put a larger M.2 SSD(s) in there. I like the form factor, the screen, and the weight. Great for on the road where one doesn't need 'lots' of horsepower. Firefox feels fairly snappy, no complaints there. Applications come right up. I had Firefox up and LibreOffice Calc up at same time. No problem. With Firefox up the system said I was using 1.6G of 3.35G. Only using 10G or so of the 117G so room to spare. Is it a 'beast' or 'insane'? Well No... My Linux desktops are for 'power' use. At this point I like it as it will do exactly what I bought it for.
I have one of these. There is only one RAM slot so don't expect to be able to run dual channel as the video states. I instead added a 16gb stick for capacity. That being said, there is nothing close to the price that weighs in so light. It is shockingly light. Good little machine to take on trips or have as a spare just because it is so inexpensive. I added an MVME SSD and it churns through most everything. I even do some light video and photo editing on the thing. Not too shabby :)
It is the very same as my HP. It looks like it rolled off the same Chinese assembly line. The Ethernet port with the little drop-down window, the silver finish, the thinness, the row of vents that are in the back. It definitely came from the same factory as my HP. Of course, I paid twice as much as you did. I also discovered the same as you did about upgrade-ability. It would appear that the unit I have is not really meant to be upgraded. Just getting the cover off to look at the innards requires one to destroy the feet the unit rests on because this is where eight out of the 11 screws are located.
4:30 that happened to me when I bought my msi g series laptop I was like f**k u gotto be kidding then I connected to my WiFi and it got activated I was so relief.
I really dig the all silver look and non-chiclet silver keyboard with backlighting. It reminds me of those old school Apple PowerBook G4s and MacBook Pros that looks amazingly sexy. That's probably the only reason why I bought this, hah!
Hmm. There was no second DIMM slot, you can't make it dual channel. If you remove the M.2 SATA SSD, you can't more memory on the back side of the only DIMM slot. Also, the "Tuned by THX" thing was for audio, not the screen. It would have been nice to give a quick idea of what the speakers sound like.
The Acer Aspire 5 is a much better upgrade path. The base Ryzen 3 model comes with an NVME drive, an empty RAM slot (2 total), and an empty 2.5" slot with the adapter. It's also the Ryzen 3 3200U processor which will play WoW at low settings or older games just fine. The screen is amazing too.
I bought mine about the time of this video and I upgraded ram to 16gb and ghosted the os to a 1tb and added another 1tb. So 2tb, 16gb ram, can stream in 1080p, i can play almost all my indie games(through steam), I can play a good amount of my more expensive games, I can write reports by using Microsoft online office suite (i dont have a personal purchased version of office of any kind) and its free. I also added thicker thermal pads where the secondary m.2 is to make sure it uses the bottom of the case as a heat sink. All in all, I could have waited for another laptop(turns out there is one right now that has dual channel available, and a larger sata ssd), but the price difference is 200-$300. I didnt have that at the time, but I also would have had better things to spend the extra money on, and upgrade when I find components on the cheap(which I did). Worth a buy if your looking for something on the cheap, is upgradable, can play a lot of games on low setting(with more ram, but lack of dual channel).

Would this be good for editing good quality video or a video podacst
Watching this on my Motile Laptop. I love everything about mine! I upgraded my RAM on mine but had no issues with a second memory. Now I have the Ryzen 3 model.
So much camera movement is getting me motion sickness.

I’d really like to hear your opinion 😰
true this can be a good system, but by the time you are done swapping out everything you might as well buy the more expensive computer for the same price.
Finally. A thumbnail that doesn’t look as clickbait-ish.
I love my acer aspire 5, it’s so easy to upgrade it comes with all the stuff you need to install a ssd in the box and it’s amazing and I’m still waiting to upgrade the ram.
I still have a 10 inch acer netbook aspire one that is 10 years old and it's still purring along as my 2nd computer it's better than a chromebook that only gets android os now it's upgraded to win 10 I use it as my on the go laptop that I put into a backpack or little messenger bag.
American You Tuber how does it game? what is the standard frame rate?
DayGames I don’t game on it, I use my 1300$ PC lol
Im using this laptop right now and its cool to see him review it!
I bought an acer aspire 5 with a ryzen 3 and upgraded the ram to dual channel 8gb. Should I regret? I got the aspire and the ram for around $325
@Jordi Vde I am in alaska, so I do not know what prices of items are on the clear opposite side of the world are. Sorry
I'm happy to see that you guys are using normal non image distorted or stupid looking thumbnails again. They really put me off some of your recent vids.
9:00 I've got dual channel and AMD, for some reason Fortnite just lags, and also when you're fighting.
You should make a video of upgrading the laptop
I'd like to see it upgraded (more RAM, Mvme). Could you do it?
There's one DIMM slot, the SSD isn't in the way. That's just the bottom pinout from the top DIMM slot. See how there's no clips on the bottom "slot", this is how every RAM slot is.
I’m still waiting for the Target laptop
I just realized but Austin kinda looks like a Q Tip
I read this as I'm cleaning my ear
WTF?! 😂😂😂😂
i kept thinking of damian lewis in Billions

Hi! For the same price, you can buy a used MacBook pro 15" with 16gb ram and an i7 (2013 to 2015). Just search 'macbook 1398' on eBay. I bought two and they are both absolutely flawless with zero scratches or dents.

This laptop is giving me Aluminium PowerBook G4 vibes and I love it
i had a powerbook g4. bought it for all the wrong reasons. i wsondered why i couldn't install chrome or photoshop... then i found out x86 and power pc were incompatible. had fun playing nexuiz and halo on it tho
It was the fastest model they made (1.67GHz, maxed out with 2GB RAM - not the DLSD one though) and it _chugs._
Good for reading email, though.
How does Austin say that he's never seen something jump out so many times but he still has that intro
Not sure if I'm just not seeing it, but I don't know how moving that m.2 drive will allow for dual channel ram. There's no where else you can physically install more ram, even if you take out the m.2 drive that's there.
The keyboard reminds me of the traditional keyboards from 10+ year old laptops
Ordered the black model last night for $300 and don't think I will have any regrets. I have a chunky gaming laptop which I hate carrying around to business meetings and dealing with a battery that only lasts an hour. For what I'm going to use it for, I think even the RAM issue is not an issue for me.
Austin: I think we were just going to tear it apart.
Few seconds later: i thought it was going to be tear-able..
NO WAY!! Right as I read the comment he said it in the video!
This laptop is great, but it makes me so mad that they didn't include a second RAM slot. That and the cooling is what really holds that wonderful APU back.
Motile’s prices: Up, down, I’m going up i’m going down
I'm getting the lower spec Motile laptop in silver. It's getting here on Friday

Wonder if he's figured out there's only one RAM slot and the m.2 drive doesn't block a "second" slot yet ;)
For 💲300, I might buy that Walmart laptop. It looks like a Surface Book. Thanks for the great review, Austin!😃 this laptop also comes in pink and black too of you don't like the silver.
went to walmart with my friend and found a HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop for $400

If you know what you're doing and what you're looking for, you can snag a deal at Walmart, usually worth waiting until the expensive stuff gets marked down on clearance.
for a second I believed that this laptop didn't come with windows 10 full version, for that I second I lost my shit
Wrong! 4gb ddr is soldered onto the board which is standard on all boards now a days + 4gb stick dimm slot which you can repl & upgrade
Now I can get something that I can actually afford
You should do updated video with the modifications and show the performance increase.
Strong agree
It has AMD Ryzen 3 ... big deal! Can it run the Tekno Parot emulator though?
the worst part of being here so early is that there are no funny comment
I have one of these. There is only one RAM slot so don't expect to be able to run dual channel as the video states. I instead added a 16gb stick for capacity. That being said, there is nothing close to the price that weighs in so light. It is shockingly light. Good little machine to take on trips or have as a spare just because it is so inexpensive. I added an MVME SSD and it churns through most everything. I even do some light video and photo editing on the thing. Not too shabby :)

lol i just got a core i7 4th generation
16 GB RAM

lenovo thinkpad workstation ( W540 ) For 271 USD . its refurbished though !
I'd say this is a much better buy then a Chromebook. I need something for photo editing on the go, looks perfect.
The motile laptops are just rebrands of some chinese brand called Dong wang or something I heard
American slang being what it is...that manufacturer's name amounts to an "oh dear" episode
Am I blind? I seriously don't see that extra RAM slot he is talking about.
it's not there
@@nenidetic Right. I think he wants to put a RAM stick in the back of the slot or something
I’m getting the ryzen 5 8 gb ram and 226 gb ssd motile laptop on Saturday!!! I can’t wait!!!
Last time I was this early, Ken was still hired.
Wait you mean Ken is fired???
@@Javykang I'm pretty sure you can hear him in the background

This thing only has one ram slot......what are you talking about moving the ssd to get more ram?
Yeah, I think this is the earliest I've ever been on an Austin Evans' video.
The only real reason to click on the bell notification.
I literally cannot find what specific CPU is in this laptop LOL
Looked at a review and it seems to be a Ryzen 5 3500U 4c/4t.
