I got the $1,199 one like a month before i got this one an with the 1660 max Q an the 120Hz also with only a 500GB drive i felt like i compromised to much but with this new one i feel like it was definitely worth it specialy since it was on sale.
There's also the *ASUS GA502DU,* which is the same basic laptop, but with a 1660 Ti and a Ryzen 7 3750H, 120Hz, no G-Sync, and no RGB. You are giving up some performance, but I snagged mine for *$949,* which is over $500 cheaper than what this GA502GV is going for right now. This usually goes for $1199, though, but sales seem rather frequent on it. *Acer* also has a very compelling option with their *Predator Helios 300,* You can get it with a 9750H and a 1660 Ti, and with a 144Hz display, for *$1099.99.* You lose just a tad of GPU performance, and lose G-sync, but you are getting it for $400 cheaper. The *ASUS Tuf* line-up also has some great value laptops. For example, you can get a Ryzen 5 3550H and a GTX 1650 for *$699.99,* and you get a 120Hz panel. Only 8 GB of RAM though, which is not terrible, but still something. And there's the *Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming,* which unfortunately only has a 60 Hz panel, but gives you an i5-9300H (better than even the Ryzen 7 3750H), and a GTX 1650. This is going for *$695.98.* This one is particularly compelling because it has NONE of that "gaming laptop" vibe, which means it fits in on the boardroom even better than this GA502GV. None of these are quite as good as the laptop featured in this video, but they-with some trade-offs-come very close, and, in my opinion, represent an even better value proposition.

4:17 if a laptop can’t be opened with one finger. It doesn’t necessarily mean the hinges are too tight, it means the laptop has more weight in the back. In this case the weight is evenly distributed

I feel like the review units have handpicked screens - I have owned 2 high end Zephyrus laptops and both had absolutely terrible backlight bleed, to the point where I wouldn’t buy another.
I was upse that I couldn't find this in the UK easily, and went with Zephyrus G instead. However, I gotta say, the Zephyrus line up is looking awesome, with the minimalistic design and the thin and light feeling.
The one you have got is a ryzen based laptop but the zephyrus m gu502 and the zephyrus s gx502 does throttle at 95degrees and the higher model with keyboard shifted down the zephyrus s gx531 and the gx701 also touches 91c
I actually bought that laptop 2 months ago, its pretty fkn good, the only bad thing is that it over heats a lot while charging it and when playin, and the battery is not that good.
Yup, you are right. I don't know how jay is getting that type of thermal performance. By the way the laptop heating while playing is absolutely normal as this is the behavior of this laptop.
The ceramic coating on the heatpipes stops the heat from "leaking" out of the pipes, keeps it on route to cooler, will give lower chassis temperatures. Source: ceramic coating on exhausts for performance engines
The ceramic coating on the copper pipe also hold heat on the pipe until it can get to the fans. Remove it and you'll notice the heat on the board get much warmer.
Yea you don't really want anything "gaming" in any serious office environment, luckily most manufacturers toned down the sci-fi looking, plastic case bullshit, but the lights are still too much. It's annoying how hard it is to find a good gaming laptop that doesn't look like a gaming laptop.
Its only one logo, you can improvise by putting a sticker on it and block the lights and.. viola its upgraded to office/industrial laptop- slick and nice.
I bought that laptop back in August for college for engineering classes while it was on back to school sale with student deals, and let me tell you that this laptop is awesome!
I have this exact gu502gv laptop. I love it. Blew my expectations out of the water. I have no complaints besides the heat, but I just put a laptop cooling fan under it when running games for a long period of time. It helps tremendously keep it from getting hot. It barely gets warm..
I actually bought this one, probably a little after this video. One big problem is is is only single channel memory. When I added another 16GB or RAM apps that use the GPU got much faster. Apps that only use a CPU actually got a little bit slower. Also, the SSD by Intel is much slower than the Samsung SSD that I added to it.
Corvette bodies are usually fiberglass. There have been optional magnesium wheels, and some years used magnesium in the frame, which was rumored to be a fire hazard. I'm not sure that was ever verified though, as the kind of impact it would take to worry about the magnesium in the frame would also shred the car into tiny pieces, and spill gas everywhere.
I have last year's version of this laptop with a lovely numpad and the hinged bottom cooling plate (dunno what to call it it's a flat piece that opens up to allow airflow to fans when placed on any surface) feels like they have downgraded the zephyrus m.

@@hellNo116 I got used to numpads working in call centers where I would be entering long strings of numbers as I was talking, got to a place where I could enter numbers as I heard them with one hand without looking , so for me it's a muscle memory thing. Some people can probably do this with the top row but personally I never touch it.

I’ve owned this laptop for over a year now. Always always always play with your laptop on a flat surface like a desk and take the fans up to performance/turbo. The sound doesn’t bother me much since I’m using nice headphones when I play stuff. Don’t use it on your lap. You will in fact die and the fans will be covered and unable to cool it down. Play on turbo fans, keep it in that desk, pop in some headphones and it’s a great experience. No regrets.
Hey Jay, I love watching your videos, and I have done for years. But one thing you seem to be lacking are videos repurposing old hardware. Using old PC's as plex servers, security camera, streaming audio (subsonic), NAS, webserver etc. I use my old 6600k as a plex server and security server using DietPi and 2 raspberry Pi's and camera. I'd just love to see your take on this.

I'm running Heaven on my Mag-15 this moment, and though I've got a 2070 in there, the highest GPU temp I've hit is 65c (with the laptop flat on my desk). Hope that helps!

@@allanmax247 its hot really hot u don't really want it on your lap when gaming, u can boost cpu with turbo mode but the fans are loud at 100 so I dont use it for most games. I just use performance mode. Ive had no issues with performance only tge physical discomfort of heat so I use one of those little laptop tables for beds that fold out. The cpu is hot but it's designed to handle it.

It was Volkswagen. The engine had large parts of the engine that were a magnesium alloy. And a rubber gas hose running over the inner wheel well. It would split and spray gas everywhere, then the Mg would catch fire. Then as long as the Mg would keep self igniting.

Got this a couple months ago. Great versatility. Gaming(all current titles) and editting(indesign/premiere/photoshop). If liquid metal is applied, the cpu boosts to 4ghz constant. Pretty damn good.

First thing I noticed when I was shopping for laptops 2 years ago was the non-removable battery and the lack of disk drive. Love my ASUS laptop, especially the FHD 17.3" screen, semi mechanical keyboard and of course the disk drive.

@@Satsujiin yea I recommend this its light, and sturdy. The usb 65 wat capable charging is great for when you don't want to lug around a power brick. Battery is decent and I've never had a hard time seeing the screen, though I've seen screens that get brighter. The two aux port is great for if you have a head set with a separate microphone and headphone jack. My own personal complaint is there isn't an sd card reader
Just so yall know. These temps are almost impossible to get on a laptop. And also this is a review unit. Other units will definitely throttle on stock settings in CPU side.
Just got this laptop and it’s running everything I’m throwing at it. I did add an extra 16gb of ram and bringing it up to 32gb dual-channel. In my opinion this is critical. Don’t know why they thought one single channel 16gb of ram was a good idea at that price point.

Alright I game with laptop in my lap I want become sterile so I get some one randomly pregnant oh wait girls run away from me so I don't even have to worry about that.
I have found that the fan profiles also have cpu and gpu clock limits to save power and keep temperatures low. Also I think the turbo enables "ROG Boost" which gives an extra clock bump on the gpu. With my mobile ryzen it limits the cpu to 1.3 ghz on silent mode but it makes the battery last for like 8 hours so I guess each profile has its use case

I have last year's version of this laptop with a lovely numpad and the hinged bottom cooling plate (dunno what to call it it's a flat piece that opens up to allow airflow to fans when placed on any surface) feels like they have downgraded the zephyrus m.
@@cianhackett I program a lot I don't usually use it... If I do is when I have numbers from.an experiment to plot and even then I don't see why not use the number row...
@@hellNo116 I got used to numpads working in call centers where I would be entering long strings of numbers as I was talking, got to a place where I could enter numbers as I heard them with one hand without looking , so for me it's a muscle memory thing. Some people can probably do this with the top row but personally I never touch it.
@@cianhackett makes senses. When you write code you have to type numbers between your words so you get used to the row. Also gamers don't need the num pad

I’ve owned this laptop for over a year now. Always always always play with your laptop on a flat surface like a desk and take the fans up to performance/turbo. The sound doesn’t bother me much since I’m using nice headphones when I play stuff. Don’t use it on your lap. You will in fact die and the fans will be covered and unable to cool it down.
Play on turbo fans, keep it in that desk, pop in some headphones and it’s a great experience. No regrets.

Hey Jay, I love watching your videos, and I have done for years. But one thing you seem to be lacking are videos repurposing old hardware.
Using old PC's as plex servers, security camera, streaming audio (subsonic), NAS, webserver etc.
I use my old 6600k as a plex server and security server using DietPi and 2 raspberry Pi's and camera.
I'd just love to see your take on this.

Volkswagen bugs motors used to be made out of magnesium too. We would burn them in huge fires at Glamis Ca. during Thanksgiving. The light from magnesium burning is so bright!!!

I'm running Heaven on my Mag-15 this moment, and though I've got a 2070 in there, the highest GPU temp I've hit is 65c (with the laptop flat on my desk). Hope that helps!

Got a gx502gw Definitely recommend.
The panel looks great even with sunny window behind me. And the 115w GPU has no issues.

@@allanmax247 its hot really hot u don't really want it on your lap when gaming, u can boost cpu with turbo mode but the fans are loud at 100 so I dont use it for most games. I just use performance mode. Ive had no issues with performance only tge physical discomfort of heat so I use one of those little laptop tables for beds that fold out. The cpu is hot but it's designed to handle it.

@@aeztral I've been very happy with its performance overall. Though I have a beefy rig at home that I use for gaming and have basically only used my laptop for school work and some light card games and such.
10:26 thats not true. I myself use a shitty laptop with an average temperature of 70C° and have always used it on my lap. My lap got super hot sometimes. Nevertheless, I have a child now.
Got this a couple months ago. Great versatility. Gaming(all current titles) and editting(indesign/premiere/photoshop). If liquid metal is applied, the cpu boosts to 4ghz constant. Pretty damn good.

First thing I noticed when I was shopping for laptops 2 years ago was the non-removable battery and the lack of disk drive. Love my ASUS laptop, especially the FHD 17.3" screen, semi mechanical keyboard and of course the disk drive.
I own this laptop and I’d say, it’s amazing! I feel it’s better than a Razer Blade 15

@@mishaltaifi4095 it lasts me about 4 or 5 hours depending on what I'm doing, though I have screen and keyboard brightness maxed and music loud. Speakers are great but as they are down firing they loose a bit of the detail, not by much though
@@Satsujiin yea I recommend this its light, and sturdy. The usb 65 wat capable charging is great for when you don't want to lug around a power brick. Battery is decent and I've never had a hard time seeing the screen, though I've seen screens that get brighter. The two aux port is great for if you have a head set with a separate microphone and headphone jack. My own personal complaint is there isn't an sd card reader

Just so yall know. These temps are almost impossible to get on a laptop. And also this is a review unit. Other units will definitely throttle on stock settings in CPU side.

Just got this laptop and it’s running everything I’m throwing at it. I did add an extra 16gb of ram and bringing it up to 32gb dual-channel. In my opinion this is critical. Don’t know why they thought one single channel 16gb of ram was a good idea at that price point.
Hey I’m curious, did you get a 32gb kit (2x16gb dimms) or did you just get 1 16gb stick? Curious because I am thinking of doing the same. I was thinking of saving money and finding another stick with just the same speed rating.

Very nice review, hope you can do more laptop reviews in the future. Just a side note, did I missed the ghosting test or it's not covered? Also, it would be nice if you also do a much detailed screen tests like the color gamut of the screen and a noise test on the fans. Is it too loud btw?
Alright I game with laptop in my lap I want become sterile so I get some one randomly pregnant oh wait girls run away from me so I don't even have to worry about that.
I have found that the fan profiles also have cpu and gpu clock limits to save power and keep temperatures low. Also I think the turbo enables "ROG Boost" which gives an extra clock bump on the gpu. With my mobile ryzen it limits the cpu to 1.3 ghz on silent mode but it makes the battery last for like 8 hours so I guess each profile has its use case
