As a lifelong nascar fan, I always wondered what happened to Shawna and I can’t think of anyone better qualified than Jr to share her story after nascar ended for her. Thank you for this episode. Best of luck Shawna and yes, there are people who still remember nascars FIRST LADY!
@@slick-px4pq Sara Christian’s races are considered Cup as that series, the Strictly Stock, was the start of what we know as Cup. Christian was in the first ever Strictly Stock race. The second ever race had THREE women compete, Christian, Ethel Flock Mobley, and Louise Smith.
The real first lady of NASCAR I started watching in 93 @ 9 years old and I remember having the biggest crush on Shawna so glad she is doing well and still involved somewhat in NASCAR terrific lady too it seems love this show!!!
So good to see Jr doing so,well with these interviews. His personality brings out the best in the guests and makes for a great program to watch. Good job!
Mike, I feel you 100%. My youngest brother battled Leukemia before losing his battle 5 years ago this month. Like Ms. Robinson, had breast cancer. After the first round of Chemotherapy, she developed a high fever that the doctors couldn't control. At some point she had a bloody nose which would not stop, and she was gone a short time later. My dad like your dad passed away because of liver cancer 4 weeks after my mom. It has been 3 years, but it feels like yesterday. I am so happy to see that Ms. Robinson has been able to keep on enjoying life. Thanks for posting this great interview.
This was one of the best interviews I have seen so far, and I watch a lot of Jr's videos. I think Dale is a really great guy besides being one of the great drivers in NASCAR, and listening to both him, and Shawna really makes me have a lot of respect for both of them. I bet she was indeed a tough competitor out on the track. Really nice to watch this.
Great episode with Shawna !! So glad she came on and mention how the real first women of nascar was slighted. Junior and Mike needs to get other ladies on as well. Thanks for a get episode.
Wow. Thanks so much, Junior, for having and posting this conversation, particularly where Shawna is so willing to talk about her Cancer treatment. I'm in the midst of my own Cancer journey (Stage IV Prostate Cancer) and know well the challenges of chemo and radiation therapy. It is not for the feint of heart. Shawna's courage is inspiring.
Great Guest! I remembered Shawna running, but I see it totally different now in this day and age. So great to see her and hear her story with us race fans having 2021 point of view. Very glad to hear she is healthy now and going strong.
I think that Jr is the best person in NASCAR ever and his Dad would be so proud. From a psychological point of view you can see where Sr taught Jr to be nicer.
No Junior has implied he is nicer because he saw his dad getting booed and hated that Back in the Bodine vs Earnhardt days. Junior didn’t like dad wrecking people and being hated…Junior chose to treat people nice.
@@waynewilliams8554 Dale Sr taught Dale Jr things that he didn't fully comprehend until several years later. Dale Sr always insisted that his children would value their success more if they achieved it on their own. They all understand that now. The three older children became successful despite the crap that Teresa put them through. Now, Teresa is a nobody other than her last name.
@@randyrutherford1186 NOT fully true. Quite often an absent father but never a jerk as a father. Dale Jr's and Kelley's biggest problems were Teresa, and not Dale Sr.
Jr. grew up in the generation of showing females respect, regardless of how angry they may get. There’s 2 ways to argue with a woman. Neither one work.
I just love how Dale is such a funnel for the history of the sport. It’s perfect. The most popular driver in the history of the sport, NASCAR superstar and icon, son of a legend is still carrying the history of this sport. As a fan of Jr all my life, I’m in awe of the man he has become, he’s someone that everyone can look up to. Even kids today!
Shawna Robinson was one of my favorite drivers. I know she had a ton of experience but I always felt she just needed a bit more seasoning and she would do better. I think she got more girls and women into racing then Danica Patrick. Girls getting in cars at my local dirt track who aren't even old enough to have watched Shawna race reference her more then any other female driver.
And that’s actually how to handle conflicts….get it over and done with, don’t let people run over you and be open to correction. Angry in the moment…..but respect gained on both accounts.
It's crazy I used to do epson salt baths to try to help pain from stage2 of 3 testicular cancer that moved to my back and stomach 13 weeks of chemo no radiation
Got to meet Shawna at Orange Co Speedway, she and Ward Burton had an incident during practice. She was very kind, while noticeably upset about the situation! Still proudly have her autograph!! Thank you Shawna!!! 😃

I was always a fan of your driving but had no idea the real quality of your personality. I'm impressed and I'm not even related, I think your family especially your father would be proud of you
I met Shawna at Nazareth in 1993. Got the autograph and the whole bit. Shot the hooey for a bit shortly after a practice session. Fantastic lady she is.
I've got one of her die-cast cars in my stash. Her & Patti's {Racing Champions}. I thought she just never got a good enough car under her, plenty of talent, just never a good enough car to show them off. Congrats to her, glad to hear she's doing so well & healthy.
Love you shawna. Not only is nascar's first lady shes a wonderful human and a great person with a heart of gold. I'm glad weve met since I've moved to Denver NC
I think I remember Dale Jr saying in an interview “They need to get her better equipment because it’s hard to dodge her every 3-4 laps” or something close to that.
I was thinking he had said something like that. I remember him saying after a wreck that it was not her fault that she was doing the best she can with the equipment she has to race with.
I would love to hear about some of the smaller time raceway drivers. I remember a guy named Elden Dotson that raced for him self and my uncle at one point I would like to hear more about.
Yes they had a VHS back in the day with Cale Yarborough and Richard Petty and Benny Parsons and a few more greats I’m see if I can find the name or pull the VHS out it was so so good
Most people do not know that Dale Jr and Kelley did funds raising efforts for Shawna while she was battling cancer. Also, when Dale Jr was young, he had a big crush on Shawna.
I think the race they are talking about was the 600 in Charlotte. I can't remember the year, but I was in attendance when she ran Jr into the wall. It looked accidental to me at the time but Jr fans sitting in front of me was pissed!!
YES!!! about damn time she's on!! Met her at "The Oaks' country club. Made her day when I said "I seen you run in NH out qualified dale sr. She had the longest line for autograghs. The first time I remember seeing her was in a ARCA race at Daytona. She was mad for coming in 2nd because she followed the driver who was then in 2nd got laps at the end waiting on him to try and pass the leader. She said she was mad because she thought she had a shot at winning if he would have tried to pass the leader sooner.
Hey you didn't miss all the autograph sessions,I remember about 30 years ago you were at a Chevorlet dealer in Freeland Michigan,I drove by but the line was about 1/4 mile long,so I went to dinner

Lmao. So true
God Blessed America, Dale Jr's mom, Brenda, and his sister Kelley taught him to be respectful with everybody, not just women.

Shawna I talked to tou on facebook when you had tour scare. Your response made my day. God bless you lady and best wishes
