    Hello! I would say for excel, look into Microsoft certification. A lot of colleges do evening classes and usually can be done in a month or two. You sit an exam and get a certificate from Microsoft for excel.
    Also be prepared to be asked about the functions and how you would use them. As I’ve learned anyone can say buzzwords such as vlookup sumif etc. As an interviewer (in abscence of a qualification) I have to ask more questions.

    • @PoppyDontree
      @PoppyDontree  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the the role really. If you're after management accountant role, normally either ACCA or CIMA should have equal chance but if the role is extremely commercial then they may prefer someone with CIMA over ACCA. I personally find ACCA to be more rounded so if you want to have options to switch between more technical like Financial Accountant and commercial then ACCA will give you more chance.

      Please check how many exam exemptions you'll get with a degree in Business & HR management. If you won't get any exemptions then you might want to start now. Please do note though that ACCA & ACA are very difficult qualifications and will require a lot of dedication so it might impact your current study. I made a video here of how long each exam take me to study so you may want to check out for further info th-cam.com/video/1ybUjWjjtGk/w-d-xo.html.

    I was wondering what role titles i should apply for with a degree in accounting and finance if I wanted to start in industry? To be honest, I am not too keen on the type of work one might do in practice such as auditing. How viable is this approach, or is it that much better to start in practice? I will be graduating in a few months from a top uni in the UK but have little work experience. Thanks!

    • @PoppyDontree
      @PoppyDontree  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have no experience you could try Management Accountant/ Assistant Management Accountant / Finance Admin / Junior FP&A. That's the classic route to Finance Manager > Controller > FD > CFO. There are other work you can do in practice these days. Most practices now provide "outsourcing" service which basically does Management accounts/AP/VATs for very small companies that have not yet established an internal finance team. That was where I started and I highly recommend it if you want the Management Accountant > FD route.

    what are the requirements to become an account.. do you need gcses or a levels?

    • @PoppyDontree

      If you're taking ACCA route then you're going to need GCSEs. However, with AAT, there is no entry requirement.

    Hi Poppy I am an ACCA affiliate and now I am in UK as an international student. I have applied for a lot of jobs but still did not get one related to accounting even I have certificate of achievements and good grades in Professional exams. I have given interviews and when they ask for any experience or I am an international student it turned them off. After that I never hear from them.

    Why did you switch from IT to accounting. Just curious ☺️

    • @PoppyDontree
      @PoppyDontree  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kinda "fell" into IT sales/consulting in Thailand because they needed someone fluent in English who can have a business conversations with international clients. So basically got that job mainly because of my language skills. I didn't have any qualification or enough experience to secure relevant role here.

    Does qualified accountant mean have already passed all ACCA papers but haven't achieved member status?

    • @PoppyDontree
      @PoppyDontree  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Qualified means pass all exams + work experience requirement + ethical module so you need to be a member to be qualified. An affiliate still needs to work under supervision of a qualified accountant (in theory) 😀

      If he gets interviews then start asking the interviewers / recruiters some feedback as to why he didn't get to the next stage. It could be that he needs to work on the interview techniques. I always view interview as the time to sell yourself. This video may be of help th-cam.com/video/5OCySYV2SXk/w-d-xo.html. I also have free CV template here just in case www.poppydontree.com/freebies/p/cv-template.

    Is 32 too old to start an accounting career with no former accounting qualifications or degree? And is it possible to become chartered in the next 7 years or is the age of 32 too old?

    • @PoppyDontree
      @PoppyDontree  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      32 isn't too old at all. Although I have a degree in Finance, I started my ACCA when I was around 30. You can do this!

      Regardless of the job you do, in order to get PR status you'll need to be in the country for either 5 or 10 years depending on the visa you're currently holding.
