These are made by Purolator for Toyota. They are pretty much equivalent to Motorcraft FL-910S, with some slight differences in design. Both great filters.
This was a very timely video. Just won $20 from a good friend who works for Toyota. He said Toyota parts are the best parts made. Showed him your video and to prove me wrong found a different model filter that had been dropped and he cut it open and found similar problems. I believe you opened the same Toyota filter last fall and found something similar. Thanks for your videos. For the $$ might as well spend on a Fram Ultra or a Napa Platinum.
A test that would be very interesting on Toyota's filter would be: - 15600-41010 (original, made in Japan big oil filter used mostly on Land Cruisers for decades, recently discontinued but still findable on Internet) VS - 90915-YZZD3 (official replacement in the US, made in Thailand, smaller diameter than the old one) VS - 90915-40002 (official replacement for non-US, made in Thailand, same diameter but shorter) There are a lot of debates on these, obviously most people want the original made in Japan, some say the new ones are too small but in the opposite the new ones have modern materials, modern features (anti return valve...).
Thanks for the comparison. Although there are rumors of counterfeits from China being sold on Amazon these seem to be identical. Some Toyota filters were made with cardboard end caps. Hopefully they are all made with medal end caps now.. BTW the dealership by me here on LI charges $11.00 for the same oil filter.
I think Toyota filters are made by Denso. So u might find some specs under the Denso name. Just a FYI on Honda branded filters some of them. Are made by Fram and are the tough guard middle tier filter
I'd like to see the inside of a KNOWN counterfeit. Seems to me the only protection you have against fakes is to get them from a reputable source, such as a dealer (wouldn't trust Amazon).
Crazy I have never seen a Toyota oil filter that did not come with a prelude lube and wrapped ring wouldn’t it be funny that the dealership got ripped off!!
I guess I will have to cut mine open after I change it out. Not sure the glue residue would cause a problem but these don't look any more special than other brands. They are all made by the same 3 companies anyway it seems.
Yikes for around $7 at Walmart vs the Fram ultra high synthetic that's a few bones more. Not the best looking oem filter. Still beats the Fram orange can of death
looks like the amazon is identical, except.... it looks like its been solvent washed case is faded media is faded and the writing on the media is washed out on the amazon filter. wonder if some one is cleaning them and re sale them
I drank the Kool-Aid with Toyota filters. Real or fake there are much better filters out there. A non-counterfeit toyota filter will have plastic shrink wrapped on the end and the ring will be greased. I run a Motorcraft or wix on my toyota now cause they are cheaper and better made.
Any filters for Toyota that have letters instead of all numbers are made for Toyota. The made in USA one is from Purolator and doesnt come wrapped in plastic or prelubed.
Oil Filter Friday,
Watch a New Automotive oil filter inspection video every Friday on this TH-cam channel.

I believe you are correct, I've read that somewhere before.
I think you are right. It sure looks like the Purolator filter, just looking at the base plate gives it away.
The ones in Europe say Denso on them.

LOL
Hey, that's a Great deal. Good story thanks for posting.👍
I've often wondered if Amazon stuff is fake, too. Very interesting comparison...Thanks again
You're Welcome Larry👍

👍
Our dealer in PA charges $7 (about the same as Walmart). If I bring in an ad from an online discount Toyota dealer, they will usually match the price.
You mean ‘stealership’ !
Nice job comparing these two oil filters!

Thanks for the information, Greatly appreciated.👍😊

Or the dealership knows full well and is ripping people off…
Missed one 👍
problem is amazon have many seller and yes you can get fake filters from amazon
So...are the filters from Amaxon OEM?
I can't speak for all of them but these look the same.
Definitely identical filters. Quality is definitely disappointing. Good video 👍
Yes, the quality stinks, it's very disappointing especially since it's made here.😢
I guess I will have to cut mine open after I change it out. Not sure the glue residue would cause a problem but these don't look any more special than other brands. They are all made by the same 3 companies anyway it seems.
I buy my Toyota oil filters on eBay from Toyota dealers. If you order 10 at a time "one case" you can save some money.
Yep, that's the way to do it.
Thanks for sharing!
Dealers often sell on Amazon and ebay as well.
Yep
Both filters are counterfeit. Genuine Toyota filters for my RAV4 are made in Thailand.
Could be, I dont know, but I bought one of them from a Toyota dealer.
No, they’re not counterfeit. Not all Toyota filters are made in Thailand. I got some YZZG2 from a dealer and they’re just like these in the video.
too bad you did not weigh both the paper media since you c\ulled them out. YEP DIFFERENT TREATMENT. MUST USE 2 PAPER SUPPLIERS
Yeah, I know. This is an older video.
I do weigh them now, started doing that a few months ago.

I would take the Fram Ultra over this OEM oil filter any day.
Thanks for your feedback.👍🙏😊

It would be better if you told us what filter you are talking about.
Not sure what you mean?
never seen these filters not come pre wrapped and lubed... maybe the dealer even knows they are shiesting people
both looked less than original to me as well
even motorcraft seems to be of better quality

Have you tried the TRD Oil filters?
First! 👍🇨🇦
