Hi @tonyr7393 . As the filed is still being farmed I have not set one out properl yet. I plan to make one down the far bottom corner of the land - as far away as possible incase it attracts any unwanted guests.
This video defines the brilliance of TH-cam. Two mates confronted a project and made memories that everyone can witness and appreciate. Well done but I admit I thought you would take out the corner of the building.
Thanks @MikeMoraCalifornia . I did too...but that would not have been too bad as that building will come down next year. It would have been the clean up mess after that would have been the horrible part!😁
It’s so relaxing watching other people work! I hope that you’re saving that corrugated metal sheeting. It could come in handy. Stack firewood on it, to keep it off of the dirt. Lay some down under the deck to keep the weeds down? Cheers, Richard!
Was that thing built by the Romans? Because it appears it was built to last. But that sunset drone shot made it all worthwhile. Cheers to your friend Simon for his hard work and good company no doubt.
Unreal how much wire and nails were used to tie that thing together! A whole car load of scrap wire was pulled out of there! It was great to have the help and such a laugh along the way.
hahahaha I absolutely loved today's ep! I thought the old barn structure would never fall over, but you two didn't give up and it was so funny to watch 🤣 you certainly earned that beer !! Well done boys !!
Hi Richard, wow what a job getting that thing down. Love the new lawnmower, looks a good one. Good progress on the project keep up the great work. Tony Romiley
Hi @deniseoconnellmusic353 . That little deck is temporary - it has already been up there a year longer than originally planned. Once the landscaping starts then I will add lighting to the outrside areas. Although on the bright clear nights, which are quite common, outside lighting is not always needed.😎👍
Hugely satisfying watch. I imagine a lot of the viewers were thinking "I want to be there"! Lots of tasks making a huge difference. And the bromance topped it all!
A few are offering to visit and help so I hope to get organised for 2025 and open up a few weeks or weekends if anybody really does wish to be here. I think the demotition of that outhouse could be a fun week with a few people here.🤞😁
Ìm in a Highland 1800s stone cottage I renovated and soooo wsh Id kept more detailed records now I get photos popping up on fb saying this is 7yrs ago and omg how you forget wat a joy having this record
That was how this started - with photos - and then it took on its own journey! It maybe a while before I look back but a snapshot year in review edit could be fun to edit and watch back in time. 😊 A stone cottage in the Highlands sounds amazing!
Love watching your progress. We watch to enjoy, learn, live by proxy and even perhaps help. I haven't seen you use one, but a come-along would he very helpful for. Mostly when you are working alone.
A lot of smiles on this one. I still think the chain saw could have been used to dismantle the barn ( work smarter, not harder). It's always better to have someone with you when there's a lot of work to be done, especially when there's 2 man issues to be accomplished. Great video, enjoyed it greatly.
Hi @2quintly . It was considered but with all the hidden wire, cables and nails that we found in the most obscure places this was the safest option - saved trashing the chainsaw also!😁
The great thing about doing things slowly is that you get to appreciate and discover the possibilities of a place rather than getting contractors to go in gung ho at it. Regarding the roof terrace on the outhouse building, to get around planning permission, how about putting a wooden deck above the roof rather than a tiled one as part of the roof? That way it wouldn’t be a permanent structure, just a second ‘star gazing’ deck… but of course it would be a wonderfully private space for sun and stars. 😁
This one, I must say, had me laughing often, brilliantly authentic...Thank you! It's great to laugh, even if you weren't meant to be funny or at someone else's expense. I loved the "rocky style" music you played during the takedown of those massive tree limbs. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos. I love seeing your little piece of Italy. I wish you continued success and it's lovely to see what is clearly a great friendship! 🤩😎
Thanks @lisasbeautifuljourney . We have been friends for over 30 years so I guess that showed nicely. Adding music in the edit is so hard to do well so thank you for picking up on it.😁
where do you get your energy from !!! you are extremely knowledgeable.... i wish we were able to smell that tree all freshly cut, you have a gem of a friend there. Love your videos

Are you going to gradually cut down all of the trees in the outhouse area? That one branch coming down opened up the whole space. I personally don’t like trees near buildings because they do a lot of damage and keep dampness in.
HI @KittyMcGee1001 . No, I plan to keep as much of the existing trees as I can plus plant many, many more. I will trim and shape some so that they frame parts but will keep most of them that are not causing damage.
Hello in Italy😀 Wonderful video! What good friends you are❤ The little balcony you built is a stroke of luck - a cold beer in the evening with a friend at sunset 👍 We look forward to seeing how it turns out on your nice farm. Fight on! We are waiting for your next video. Kind regards from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks @c-j1508 . Every two weeks is still the plan until I can get here more. I would love to make a video every week or push to 3 a month...time will tell..

Hi @icepick1945 I do have a chain saw. Those poles are full of wire, nails and cables that so working at that height is too dangerous and would wreck the chainsaw.👍
I saw a few others had the same reaction I had to this video and prior one, too. Bang, bang, bang… yank, yank, yank, repeat for days!!! Why??? You could have easily cut every nail or bolt with a grinder or reciprocating saw to get the wood beams on the ground and then removed the corrugated roof panels. You didn’t seem to be preserving the wood anyway so why waste all those hours? The point of demolition is to use the most advantageous tools to accomplish the task as quickly as possible. No need for finesse at all. Please, please, PLEEEZE, don’t use a chainsaw anywhere above your shoulders!!! That is a recipe for disaster with any little slip. You did your major cuts fine, not dangerous at all. But recreating the scene from Texas Chainsaw Massacre by holding the chainsaw fully extended over your head made me close my eyes.
Hi @bobhaze5324 A reciprocating saw may have done the job but I don't have that tool and we started this work late afternoon. We did not think it would have so much wire, cables and nails in it. An angle grider did not work and the weight of the thing to get it down in one go was too dangerous. I had to keep the corner posts in place to show the location, size and height for when I plan to do something with them in the future. Smashing it all down could have caused issues up the road with the planners etc. I am buying tools as I go but I am sure you are aware that the many, many tools I need don't come cheap. We got there and in the grand scale of things it was just a few hours of work. Great fun along the way too. 👍
I’m up to number 20! I’ve been enjoying your experiences! Im just a bloke from Virginia USA here thinking about retiring in Italy so this is so helpful.
Quick suggestion/recommendation - I bought a 6" mini chainsaw a couple of months back after much deliberation and can say that they are really good and in particular for anything overhead / anything 1/2" plus - avoids the palpitations of using a proper chainsaw which you then only need tor downing real trees : )
Thanks @peterh7842 that is a good idea and seems a sensible tool for the safety side. With so many small branches to cut each year that would be a wise investment. Another tool on the shopping list.🙌
You've a great pal there, Richard. He's a keeper. We're just completing our garden kitchen here in Ostuni, in preparation for the royal unveiling next weekend to the great and good community we've met since arriving here. Both ex-pat and local.....each of which have a story to tell and a meal to share.
I really like your channel, Mate There's a remnant of your satirical dry humour still alive and well in the character of ever Australian Anglo Saxon Celt If you want something demolished in half the time With maximum effect and extreme prejudice Put an Aussie on it It would have been a bonfire with barbie and beers in 25 minutes flat Lol I just returned from Italy I wished I'd had time to look you up If you ever need a hand with anything Electrical Hydraulic or Mechanical Hit me up
Thank you @davidinman3584 that is very kind of you. I really did want to pull it all down and have a fire....no fires in summer and I need to keep the corner posts up to show the planners in the future. A silly rule when photos exist etc....but you know! Cheers!🙌
Great video as always but this one was extra special. Lovely to see the bond between two friends and how much you can achieve with an extra pair of hands. Making memories and stories you can tell in the future when you’re sitting down at your house there when it’s all done. Look forward to the video of your trips together in Marche.
Lots of good work and good times! Did I spot a 24 h of Le Mans t-shirt at the end? That's my hometown so I spot these a mile away ;) Great progress and it's nice to see the outhouse getting much needed air and light.
That was two huge jobs, well done. The old shed looked really sketchy to get down, even with both of you. The tree is always unnerving, you can never be sure it's going to fall how you want, but it went really well.👍
The platform that I have is not solid or high enough so trying to grind off the bolts from a ladder with nothing that solid to lean against seemed too risky with all the uneaven ground below. It was a good workout so there is always a positive!😁👍
here in the states, we have mowers called brush hogs just for mowing heavy grass and brush. something you might want to look into before you bend the drive shaft on that light mower. Because you're going to run into some shit mowing that yard.
I think there are many tools that could help me out here @wayneevans5050 . There is still lots to clear and flatten so I think a large digger to level and clear might have to be the way forward now that I can see 90% of what is there. Once all the clutter and metal is out of the way it should be ok for an average size machine. I have to be careful of the budget - I'd love more tools but they are not cheap and I don't have many places to lock them up yet.
I know it’s more work but it’ll be worth it, cut your old barn posts and use some of the old roof sheeting and make a timber storage rack, waste not want not ❤ Shell🇦🇺
Hi @One_Crazy_Dog_Mum . I will reuse as much as I can. Most of the posts are rotten - they are being held together by all the wire and cables. The roof sheets should come in handy for a few things.👍
Hi @Nomad126 They have some metal rods or cable or are wrapped in wire plus have way too many really long nails. All in all....very difficult to get down safely.😕
Hi Richard, No wonder you were exhausted 😮💨 Without your wonderful friend, it would have been impossible and dangerous, to tackle jobs like that ,by yourself ! He seemed to be enjoying himself ! I was worried when you decided to start cutting the tree down 😱but in the end ,it went well ! Looking forward to seeing what you get up to next !
Iv binge watched this whole series over the last couple of days, and I'm addicted. I like your style of videos so thanks for entertaining me. Also is that a Welsh accent I hear?
I'm glad you finally got a mower...I've been waiting haha. Also, wondering why you didn't somehow hook to your vehicle to pull some of that down quicker. My dad and I did that pulling some stumps out of the ground when I was a teen...fond memories...not! lol.
The big purchase had to wait a lot longer than I had planned. Pulling that down with my car....that sounds expensive if it goes wrong! And I would be stuck with no transport to get back to England.😂
In time. The shopping list is massive. There should be enough daylight hours for me to get stuff done with the night time saved for stagazing and enjoying wine...in the dark.😂
@@threeacresofmarche For a second I thought that you guys were really brave to get so close to a wild bird. Then I realized it must be fake, but only looked real because of the lighting.
Great job! I'm loving watching the videos. My wife is from Italy (near Lecco) and we spent 5 months there this year up until May. Now I find myself wanting to go back and buy a farmhouse to toil on for the next few years, haha.
Looks like Great Progress. Love the Mower Wave Shot... 📸 Game Changer! That Sheet Metal would be Great for Snow Boarding this Winter! 😜🤟✌️ Enjoyed the Show! Thanks again for Sharing.
Hey!!! Rich. What a ep! This would be your best yet . Awesome gr8 to have help. Your tree lopin' skills, not bad (beginner), good to see you thinkin' planning your cuts (and falls), SAFTY FIRST, well done. You did good. I really enjoyed this vid. You have opened up the area to light and flow, be good to see what you plan to do next with that spot. The possibilities are endless, can't wait for next ep. Having a beer for you(maybe two) that was hard yakka(work!) Cheers Aussie fan
Thanks @eziotaddeo1726 . It was a big lump of a branch that could have fallen a few ways so glad it went well. Lots to learn on that safety side but better to have two people on these things. The options for that are are wide open so it should be good to see what comes to mind over the next year or so as I finish the main house and plan ahead. Cheers to you - I need some of those Aussie style beer cooler things to keep them cool. The big bottles are the size of wine bottles so the stubbie coolers don't fit!😂
Thank goodness you and your amazing friend came out safe on both of those projects ❤ Your making your paradise even more amazing each video. I love how you got yourself a lawn mower. As always Thanks for sharing and can’t wait until next time. Cindy
I've watched all 20 videos in about 3 weeks and I'm delighted I've finally caught up. It's great to see the progress. I'm looking myself in Italy at the moment and as an engineer and general handyman I'm glad to see how well you're doing the jobs. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Good binge watching @craigstewart4289 . Thanks! The finished product will be a few years away and the plans will probably change 5 times, again...but it will get there.😁
Meant in a very positive way, but I got a flashback on Waldorf & Statler while you were rambling on the terrace deck😁. Perfect ease of a long lasting friendship. Very nice to see you both working with pleasure together on the house.
The neighbours are ok making a bit of noise when they are working on their barns and land sometimes.😂 Some did 'go for a walk' to have a look at what we were doing...😊
Is “mate” the English version of American “dude”? If the tree your cutting is what I think it is, the wood stinks when it burns unless you’ve dried it for a few years, at least?
Hi @davidbiddle3257 . I would say that mate is close but not quite the same. Some people use it when speaking to a stranger but in general it is a term used between friends. I have set up a log plle to dry these things out for a long time before they will be used in the log burner.👍
Hello, with a little help you guys got a lot done. The place is looking better every video. When you were cutting down that barn a sawzall could have made things a little easier but you still did the job. Thanks for another good video.
Hi @dono9879 a sawzall would have helped but we started this late and did not think it would be so difficult. The two videos were filmed in one go, one evening. I think that tool will be the next one on my wish list.👍
The enthusiasm of your friend and his determination not to let that barn defeat him, had me chuckling again. Laughed out loud when he proudly threw the tin sheet onto the side of the road and it went sliding away. Mowing the dirt …well. Thanks again for the time you put into your videos
Thank you @elaineayres1989 It is lovely to get comments like this one. Thanks for watching and your kind words.👍
What a good friend you have there.😊
Yes - a great friend of 30+ years.
Something very satisfying about seeing a renovation like this. Not sure if you've already set aside an area to compost all of the vegetation that you've been chopping down, but at some point you'll be in need of a load of good quality soil for your garden and having a readily available free source on site could be very handy.

It looks like the top barn roof could be, yes.
So happy you put the drone up dear neighbour - wonderful to see our house🎉
HI @claudiaschade7862 What a house you have!! Thanks for that lovely lunch - see you all soon.😎
The great thing about doing things slowly is that you get to appreciate and discover the possibilities of a place rather than getting contractors to go in gung ho at it. Great video I really enjoyed 2 good mates having a laugh while working so hard.keep up the good work

Congratulations @petercashell9086 good luck for the big open day. Sounds like a great community around you down there.😊
Bravi, bellissimo lavoro. Ciao Richard
Thank you
I really like your channel, Mate
There's a remnant of your satirical dry humour still alive and well in the character of ever Australian Anglo Saxon Celt
If you want something demolished in half the time
With maximum effect and extreme prejudice
Put an Aussie on it
It would have been a bonfire with barbie and beers in 25 minutes flat
Lol
I just returned from Italy
I wished I'd had time to look you up
If you ever need a hand with anything
Electrical
Hydraulic or
Mechanical
Hit me up
Thank you @davidinman3584 that is very kind of you. I really did want to pull it all down and have a fire....no fires in summer and I need to keep the corner posts up to show the planners in the future. A silly rule when photos exist etc....but you know!
Cheers!🙌
Great progress!! Always helps to have a friend along with those kinds of projects. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment @HoosierInUtah
I'm really enjoying your progress. Such a great project and I hope to be following your lead in a few years!
Thats great! Best wishes to you @trevorsmith8603
Great video as always but this one was extra special. Lovely to see the bond between two friends and how much you can achieve with an extra pair of hands.
Making memories and stories you can tell in the future when you’re sitting down at your house there when it’s all done.
Look forward to the video of your trips together in Marche.
Thanks @marktuckey5853 . Great memories. The time flew by!
Lots of good work and good times! Did I spot a 24 h of Le Mans t-shirt at the end? That's my hometown so I spot these a mile away ;) Great progress and it's nice to see the outhouse getting much needed air and light.
Hi @mysicilycorner I think it was, yes. I see your place is coming on really well!🙌
That was two huge jobs, well done. The old shed looked really sketchy to get down, even with both of you. The tree is always unnerving, you can never be sure it's going to fall how you want, but it went really well.👍
Thanks @neutonrenda2303 . The harder looking job was the easy one in the end. Typical!😂
Man, got tired looking. Back-seating here, but could you not get the metal plates of first. I feel the grinder in my hand man, lol 🤣
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Cheers @mariushegli
Another great video! shout if you want a hand :)
Thank you @familygoexplore . Will do!
Can your friend come to my house in the States? I have projects he could help with! 😉
He is all for a free holiday so yes, no problem!😂🙌
What teamwork! Congrats on all you two accomplished!
Alot of good work done mate, lovely to see, thanks for another great episode of your adventure
Thank you @ne0n1880
My OCD is praying that you would rent a dumpster and get rid of all that trash. lol
HI @craigwootton721 . I don't see dumpster or skip hire places here. A few trips to the tip and it is all gone. 👍
Вы великолепны! Супер!!!
Thank you @vorobyovanatoliy9481
Are those metal purloins? Not sawable?
Hi @Nomad126 They have some metal rods or cable or are wrapped in wire plus have way too many really long nails. All in all....very difficult to get down safely.😕
I was a bit sad at the end. Not going to lie. But, you had fun and you got loads done. All good, yeah? 😊
He will be back @SassyPieHole999 . He has enjoyed his YT debut!😂
Hahaha, I thought you did it one go! Well done, nice to see you have some help.
Thanks for making it to the end....most skip it!😂
Hi Richard, No wonder you were exhausted 😮💨 Without your wonderful friend, it would have been impossible and dangerous, to tackle jobs like that ,by yourself !
Hi @Sparkplugsteve Thank you for the binge watch! Yes, I grew up in Cardiff.
@threeacresofmarche That sounds smart. My dad had teenage me behind the wheel doing it while he manned the stump or tree. Little scary lol.
Good jobs done
You really need help
In my life decision or on the house?😂🙌
Some solar lights buddy lol
In time. The shopping list is massive. There should be enough daylight hours for me to get stuff done with the night time saved for stagazing and enjoying wine...in the dark.😂
Love the crane!
Is it a statue or a real bird? I’m guessing it’s not real because it didn’t move.
Hi @KittyMcGee1001 it is a metal animal sculpture ornament thing..👍
@@threeacresofmarche For a second I thought that you guys were really brave to get so close to a wild bird. Then I realized it must be fake, but only looked real because of the lighting.
Now I got it…you are another version of Gordon Ramsey
I hope not!😂👍
@@threeacresofmarche He is great chef!😅
My little guilty pleasure.....
Love the wire-brimmed hat!
Great job! I'm loving watching the videos. My wife is from Italy (near Lecco) and we spent 5 months there this year up until May. Now I find myself wanting to go back and buy a farmhouse to toil on for the next few years, haha.
Sounds like the start of a bee in the bonnet @jeffraycarson🙌
Fabulous progress!
Little by (very) little.😊
Looks like Great Progress.
Love the Mower Wave Shot... 📸
Game Changer!
That Sheet Metal would be Great for Snow Boarding this Winter! 😜🤟✌️
Enjoyed the Show!
Thanks again for Sharing.
Snow boarding!😂
Hey!!! Rich.
Siccome mi piacerebbe seguirti fino a fine ristrutturazione di suggerirei di armarti di casco e guanti quando fai questo tipo di lavori 🤣🤭🤗
I will take it easy! Thank you.😁🙌
@@threeacresofmarche 🙂
Thank goodness you and your amazing friend came out safe on both of those projects ❤ Your making your paradise even more amazing each video. I love how you got yourself a lawn mower. As always Thanks for sharing and can’t wait until next time. Cindy
Thanks Cindy.
Thanks @MarcoLangeveld . We have been great friends for over 30 years.😊
😊Yes, that's it! It's what we Italians call " l'arte di arrangiarsi" keep it up but be careful, very careful! Please! 😊
Slow and steady!😊
The neighbour's hear that you are around 🤣
You 2 British guys are speaking very fast
The neighbours are ok making a bit of noise when they are working on their barns and land sometimes.😂
Some did 'go for a walk' to have a look at what we were doing...😊
