I live on Long Island and last weekend my family and I took a day trip to this mall. It is a shoppers dream! Yes, it is large but it is absolutely beautiful! They thought of everything. Thank you to the developers for reimagining the concept of the mall! This mall was tasty done and so well thought out! Gorgeous!!
Sure if you are part of the top 1% or a kidult with a large trust fund living in Manhattan it is a great place to take a day trip to when spending a few thousands on depreciating items like clothing to alleviate boredom. Others have real life bills you know like rent or a mortgage with sky high taxes and utility bills and don't have mommy and daddy supporting us unlike the 20 and 30 something kidults living in Manhattan and Hudson County nj
I find it so off-putting that there is such a lack of natural daylight in the vast majority of the mall. It’s amazing how much warmer and more inviting the few areas with proper skylights are than the rest of the place. Seems crazy to me that such a recently opened mall would be designed like this.
On behalf of myself, if you want to try something, do a walk through, or anything else that intrigues you, go for it!
Enjoyed the video. I look forward to them each week and thanks again!
Watched the whole video, Tom. Great video. Fun fact, I was there at the grand opening of the mall! Won't forget it!
Thanks! Glad you liked the video! Too bad I wasn't doing mall videos back when it opened. Otherwise, I would have been there too.
Yes! Please come back to this mall and try out all the activities sometime this year. It would be great
Ok. I'll see what I can do!
i think this mall is great... yes its dead on the weekdays but on the weekends... it is BUSY. It has had a lot of problems and it is expensive but I loved the water park, theme park and tilt museum. This mall is about 40 minutes from me so I don't go too often and I wish malls in general would get busier and people stop giving their money to amazon.
I Love Amazon. F the malls!!
@@allentarver6286 Mall employees have a great fun job (mostly) while Amazon workers live in windowless warehouse all day, and pee in bottles. I try not to support Amazon.
Tom thanks for making this video, I enjoy watching watching your videos.
Russians have bigger malls. Go to videos called - Different Russia. Then look up her videos on malls.
Glad you like them! Thanks.
Great video as always. I was told that the occupancy is still very very low as of mid January.
Thanks! I'm not surprised that the occupancy is still low. There were a lot of those walls with "coming soon" on them.
It’s actually the 2nd largest mall in America. Mall of America is larger. Just an FYI. 👍🏻
And MOA is actually bustling still.
Gross sales of $153 million, compared with $151 million the prior quarter. Last year, American Dream’s sales rose 31% to $553 million.
$2 billion is a 2017 projection the mall would bring in during its first year of operations. It was 86% leased as of Dec. 31 2023
Honestly surprising in this age of online shopping. I admit I used to go to malls at least twice a week, and even I rarely go anymore when I can just order stuff online and receive it on my front porch.
@jayogee913 so what do you do for fun, stay in the house?
Hiking. Biking. Gardening. Visiting friends. Go to museums and parks. Try new foods. All kinds of stuff besides going to the mall.
It's losing a lot of money because of the large amount of vacancy terrible foot traffic. It's amazing to me they still build these monstrosities in the age of Amazon and think they'll be successful...
I love this place. And just to let you know, you can sled at Big Snow. It’s kind of a kiddie area but adults can use it. I went with my friend and her two kids, and we stayed there the whole time cos they were too little for the other stuff.
I live less than 10 minutes away from this mall and I watched it being built. I can tell you that this mall was built without input from the local population who should be the prime demographics that would make up the shoppers at American Dream mall
I just hope they figure something out to keep this mall in business, or else the mall is going to face insolvency.
This mall is owned by the Ghermezians, the people behind the creation of Canada's West Edmonton Mall and the other megamall in the United States, the Mall of America.
This mall holds so much promise, but still has a long way to go, right now its future is in limbo...
Love all your videos
I love this mall, i hope they don't close. It will be a real shame after a 20 year wait. It really is amazing.
It's nice, but online shopping has pretty much taken over not only for the convenience but if something isn't in store, it's usually online... It's sad because malls use to be really cool hang out spots...
U are exactly right. On line is the shit!!
Nice video 👋
Thanks!
I would definitely get lost!!! LoL
Definitely.
We have a Jollibee in SouthCenter Mall in Tukwila, Washington (Seattle area). That location even has a full-size standee of their mascot that I took a picture of and my retail friends were shocked there was a real life Jollibee and I had no idea that it was rare.
I'm amazed they even built this mall. Malls were dying in 2010's and then just to open in 2019, with pandemic in 2020, that is a death knell. But maybe in areas of wealth, this is sustainable. Thanks for sharing, will be interesting to see what happens to malls. They must incorporate some housing, medical, groceries to make these large spaces viable. People got too use to online shopping and delivery. I enjoyed this, told my grandkids about the activities.
Well they built the bay plaza mall in 2014 and it's thriving today seeing how it's in a heavy populated area
Wonderful Video!!!! F+L, Corey
Thanks so much!
Whoa! The last time I saw this mall (on TH-cam) it had two failing amusement parks that were forced to close, and no stores. Very curious how they managed to turn it around. I'll watch the video in full soon.
Looks like a great place to mall walk if parking is cheap or free.
I think the mall needs to decide if it's a high end mall, a low end mall, or a destination mall. None of those type of malls are doing well in the US. I'm not surprised it's in bad financial straights.
I think parking was free, if I remember correctly. It's definitely a great mall, but I think they built it 30 years too late...
I looked it up, supposedly parking here is NOT free! It's free for the first half hour or so, then it's $5 per vehicle for the duration of the visit. Kind of absurd. No mall on LI NY
here ever had paid parking. The only one that does I think is Queens Center Mall in Rego Park, Queens NY.
Parking from what I heard is not free and can be expensive
You aren’t allowed to say covid on TH-cam? Lol
@@mark3464 I read that the web site states free for an hour, afterwards it's like $5 per vehicle for the day, or whatever. None of the LI malls charge for parking, that's for sure. Even R. Field. And the malls aren't doing that well so really they should be paying US to come and park and shop there! LOL
I'd like to see the candy store and others not shown. It looks awesome
Ok. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for watching!
Those multi eyed statues in The Avenue Luxury area drive my brain crazy. Each face has 6 to 8 eyes, and each eye shares with the other eye, so all eyes are being shared by each other; therefore, they see everything in a panoramic 360 degrees.😂😂😂😂😂 They must be inspired by teachers!!
Yes please come back in 2024.😊
The largest mall ever? Honestly, I was hoping to visit this place, but it's about 200 miles from where I live. Maybe someday, I'll visit the place...
Could you imagine a whole city in a space like this? Everything you could need in an incredible space! I keep looking for some form of a people mover in here. If they had apartments in the top of this, I would so rent one :) It's beautiful and modern. Upon watching further, I can tell you that this would make an incredible self contained city environments complete with everything a populations would need. I can also admire and appreciate the architecture, as my family have built lots of locations down in Florida and up in New York. I am always casting an eye on the nuts and bolts of most of these types of places. If they had a place somewhere you could rent a place to live complete with work from home amenities, most people now would totally enjoy living in such a setting. Yeah, it blows me away that much. There is so much potential in a place like this. It just screams at you.
Go back and go through everything and do a video on it all and stay all day doing it I like to see that kind of stuff it fun to watch since I live in another state I like seeing this stuff do please go back and show it all don’t miss anything show it all thanks alot
I also dont see any seating areas. They might consider putting in some residences
Toys R Us also has a Mall of America location now.
thats a small one in macys but i believe they are building one where marshals used to be
I think this mall is doing OK considering it was plagued with challenges in its construction resulting from the 2007 financial crisis, lenders pulling out, litigation over construction halting it several times, and an opening day that occured during the COVID-19 lockdowns which lead to some tenants pulling out or downscaling their operations which impacted the vacancy rate. It is like that this mall did not get the full treatment at opening.
It m ight be impressive, but how useful would it be in a Dawn of the Dead type of scenario?
There are a lot of places to hide, so it may not be bad for that.
Wow very few people
Theres a problem. Theres no one there. Where are the charging ports, the sleeping pods, the micro hotel? The sports stadium? Its not designed to bring people in they shiuld put in a walmart
We went to this mall a few weeks ago, and I did a small video on it myself. I don't think we covered a third of the mall, it's so massive. It was the Saturday before Easter, and it was mobbed. There are definitely some retail spaces that haven't been leased yet.
MOA doesn't have empty third level
Esculator to nowhere
H Mart? Always wanted to visit one. Just looked up their locations. Bristol CT has one. That's a way to kill half a day if bored as it's not too far from me.
H Mart doesn’t have any stores in Connecticut. Closest ones are in Hartsdale and Yonkers, NY
Definitely looks like a nice Mall except it reminds me of a fancy Airport and I definitely got to say not having natural light come in almost makes me feel like I'm trapped in a tunnel just watching the video makes me feel like you almost get funneled through the Mall parts of it give me a casino vibe but definitely very cool I hope they do well I hate seeing malls get demolished there used to be four malls in my area and they've already demolished three of them and they've been there since I was a kid in the 70s
I love this place, my daughter learned to ski & swim here. I hope it doesn't go under.
I cant believe its still open. But I can see very few shoppers walking around.
More than half of the stores are vacant. Shopping is much better in Paramus.
Paramus park and garden state plaza are filled. Riverside square mall is only very upscale mall so I do nit include that one.
This reminds me of a mall by me which is either the biggest or second biggest mall in north america which is the west edmonton mall. this is a beauitiful mall though.
I would love to see the full thing
You mean the It's Sugar video?
Nothing but Pig farms in the 50's. This is in what is called the Meadowlands which is a huge wetlands. It really isn't convenient to get to and they charge for parking. This project was a white elephant from the start 20 years ago. It is interesting to visit but it may go the way of Freedomland in the mid 60s. Malls are reverting to the original mall concept of it also being a residential as well as commercial space. Little mini city. It is just a few miles from the Lincoln Tunnel and Midtown Manhatten. A quick commute and cheaper to live than NYC. It's a thought
This looks more like an airport...
What brand is the escalators?
Need your good walking shoes for that mall😊
I could see older elderly people having a problem with the Mall they had nowhere to sit you usually see seating periodically through malls you know if one person wants to go into the store maybe your significant other may want to sit out in front of the store and wait for you I seen none of that in this mall I mean basically the only place I seen seating was at the restaurants or the food areas but I didn't see any seating throughout the mall the only seating was that the real high end stores I guess peasants don't need to sit
I watched the whole thing!!!!
Thanks!
Moa has better design, flow
Circular..not one end to the other end straight flow
Never knew the usa had Ardene till this video
When I went to the mall last year, a professional women’s hockey team played their games at that ice rink. I believe the hockey league they were in no longer exists.
Unfortunately it doesn't exist, your right. They were the metropolitan riveters
I think I read that some other teams may be playing there now, bit I'm not sure.
Thanks for the info
This mall seems Blah and forced. Obviously they are still ramping up so that may change. A mall with a pulse would be places like these. You ought to hit this place again in a year's time. If it's the same vibe as the video, no, they won't make it. An interesting thing would be to find out how many years the deal with Nick and Dreamworks is. And what would the possibilities be if they bailed out?
These 2 are smaller, urban and Asian. They are jumping with people.
A Korean Mall th-cam.com/video/gy4EqHWsHq4/w-d-xo.html
Taipei Taiwan Main Station Underground Mall th-cam.com/video/-qroHdaN-48/w-d-xo.html Though to be fair probably many are taking a shortcut or if it's a hot day, taking advantage of the AC.
Asians still eat this stuff up. Maybe they are doing it differently or they are just a bit behind us. But, these 2 are urban malls. To a large degree the malls have a captive audience.
The mall is AMAZING!!
How does it compare in size to Mall Of America?
Wow, the rich even get their own mall enclaves now? The whole mall is beautiful, but the haute couture section of the mall looks like it's transported from an ancient Roman temple or something.
Yeah, "The Collections" section is a little too fancy for me.
It's like an airport concourse
Fun fact garden state plaza is bergen county's most popular mall
A crazy idea popped into my head. Why don't they put a casino on the third floor? Why not they have everything else.
This is a great mall
Do they have restaurants in the mall
Once radioshack leaves, everything else is doomed.
First took over 20yrs. to build, impossible to get to and they charge like 5 per hour for parking. They are constanlly in the red I give it another 10 yr. and that is being gemrious. They will hopefully section it off into housing.
P.s there is stand alone Jollibee in Edison NJ that is the only one I know of
Mr Beast Burger? Not counting international locations? Counting US & Canada only, he has a little over 750 locations in about 40 states and 5 provinces. However, those are not all standalone restaurants. I’m guessing that many of them are incorporated into established restaurants that already have grills & deep fryers and can accept orders for his food by just following the directions for orders. They are probably take out only. He mentions on his site for the burgers that if you have a restaurant with a grill, he can set you up as “a virtual brand offering a separate concept to your existing kitchen, available for pick up & delivery only.”
(I had a similar issue when I was looking for a BBQ restaurant. They were takeout only for a chain. All they had to do was follow cooking directions for orders. Most of the time, if you didn’t live local, they just had to have it ready for pick up.)
Most of the locations are ghost kitchens at other franchises
Yes I would like too sea a walk in the Candy store.
OK! I'll see what I can do.
I was there in March of 2022 . I thought the mall was "off-putting" and "bizarre".
A family of 4 with a few attractions , purchases and food would be spending up to $600.00.
I won't be going back.
A Walgreens in a mall thats unique is that Walgreens still there
So weird, seems like it’s mostly just long hallways with “art”
Yes. I think the art is there to cover up the empty stores.
Show the it’s sugar Candy store it would be nice to see it video
Unfortunately this mall is doomed too expensive to keep open
Is this a “one upsmanhip” of the mall of America.
Not really, they're both owned by the same Canadian company along with the west Edmonton mall.
@@AirplaneDoctor_What’s crazy is at Mall of America you’ll occasionally see ads for American Dream, and while I do understand why it’s promoted, it just feels weird considering you’re already at the better version of AD.
MOA has more foot traffic and occupancy from what I can see here.
I think the mall will make more money once the stores that are opening soon actually open
Yes, that will definitely help. We'll see
Did you figure out where those stairs to nowhere were supposed to go to?
Nope
@@fleabittenadventuresIt was supposed to be for some entertainment attractions, but they backed out. They were just able to sign on a trampoline park for the 4th level and they’re supposed to be opening later this year, according to new signs around that area.
When Mills Corp was building the mall there was a plan to build a kids city attraction but when Mills went bankrupt and Simon aquired the company assets they sold this mall and dropped the kids city
@Defunctland covered it.
Ten years from now this mall will be abandoned
5 years
I like this mall. Now it has some problems, For one thing the top floor looks very dead and you can tell they are in debt. The reason Mr Beast Burger isn't good is because their food is made by ghost kitchens and not by the actual restaurant. I wouldn't mind snowboarding down the ski slope or going to the water park, but the food options could be better.
It was a good effort, but it looks like it's not going to work out. We'll see.
I don’t think online shopping is the only reason for the decline of malls. I think malls aren’t as safe as they used to be. One example is the case where a child was thrown over a railing at a mall and the railings here seem low. As long as people don’t feel safe, on line shopping is just going to grow.
It’s a lot more stuff opened up since this video including atop gold that will be opening soon a diner a lot I work here I’m a loading dock master
Those luxury stores at least some of them hadn’t been open yet. If you’re not open you’re not making money. That said the Luxury market is waay too expensive for me👀
And do rich people shop at malls?
where are the benches??don't know if that's an intentional choice to prevent "unwanted" folk from lingering, or if they just wanted the interior to look as depressing as possible, but you better hope you don't have a disability/ or can walk for extended periods of time. not a fan of those circular thingies around 17:48, they look so small you'd definitely be bumping booty with a stranger. nice video btw i'm new
I mean… according to recent reviews this place is packed usually. Some complaining TOO packed. Almost 30,000 reviews with 4.5 stars. So when exactly did you go.. like first thing in the morning?
Nope. About 4pm on a Thursday
amazon REDRUMMED the mall business
I prefer my living room over a ridiculous waste of money!
There's now 3 stand-alone Toys "R" Us stores in the United States. The most recent store opened at the Mall of America.
It's sad to see that this mall is sinking. Location is the issue...It's in Jersey 🤮.
Yes I'd like to see you ride the train.
Maybe next time....
This is not the largest mall in America
According to the internet it is.
nope first thing on google Mall of America - 520,000 m² Location: Bloomington, Minnesota. ...
American Dream - 280,000 m² ...@@fleabittenadventures
It's not
Mall of America has been open since 1992. All these malls are on hard times. I know one major mall you can buy for $6 million!?!?
Such a waste of resources. Ridiculous. A gigantic mega-building just to house all the same stores and businesses that already exist everywhere else. Nothing special about it. Only kind of cool thing is the aquarium and skating rink.
Not a place I'd ever go, but if they don't get the money situation reversed no one else will be able to go there either. Unless they've hoping to pull an Amazon and wait ten years for profitability.
Mall of America is the largest by square feet and it has a hundred more stores.
COD bro alert 17:08
20 puffs on the inhaler got me looking like Lawrence Taylor
Isn’t the mall of America bigger?
Depends on how you measure it. I show the Mall of America is 2.8m square feet and American Dream is 3.0m square feet. However, Mall of America has more stores.
Awesome mall, but it was not what anyone wanted or needed. You would think being in such a high income region of the country it would work but people are priced and taxed to death in the tri-state area and most people across the country that fly into Newark have no idea that it exists. When people think huge mall, they think Mall of America.
There’s just waaaaay too much to do in NY/NJ/CT so a mall is not high on the list. The days of people walking around with bags full of buys in a mall are long gone for a long time…
I agree. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this mall over the next few years.
You also need a car (or the bus from Port Authority) to get there, and people coming into Newark airport or usually not bothering with one, unless they have to rent a car etc. it's easier by far to get on the PATH train and go right to Newport Centre Mall in J.C.
There is bus from EWR airport straight to the Elizabeth mall@@thiscorrosion900
Yeah go back and do a full tour
The place is empty, just like all the other malls...
Hopefully the states malls can recover eventually, there a letdown to the Canadian and British ones.
It actually isn't when you go it's packed and I say PACKED like one time there was so much people that someone got pushed into the fire lever (I forgot what it was called)but its super fun
It was packed when we went there in the winter. To the point I had anxiety
Built over Nuclear ☢️ Waste 😂
Glad I left that nightmare of a state
Not America's largest mall
18:38 that is the escalator that Jesus will one day use to return to earth from heaven
Not largest in USA
